Great video. You saved me 40 dollars. My fuse tested good as well but after seeing this I did the same as you and now it works. Knowledge comes with age. Thank you. 👍
Hello I would like to thank you so much as my ps4 pro died for no reason. I thought it was the power unit. I found this and checked mine and it was the fuse so you saved me so much money THANK YOU SO MUCH . Keep up the good work .
Thank you so much for sharing. 😉👌🏼 I just repaired my daughters PS4. She had a cockroach infestation and heard a *pop* and the unit stopped working. After opening it up there were still about 20 tiny cockroaches still crawling around in there. GROSS. After checking all the mains switching circuitry for shorts, none were found. Bridge rectifier was good, all the transistors weren't short, nor was the main filter cap. All that was dead was the main fuse. So I took the gamble and bridged the fuse with a single strand of wire like you did, and whalla. It worked. BTW There was a black spot on the board and slight damage where I presume the cockroach shorted the mains.
@@SaiBruce A single strand of copper from a multi core piece of mains wire. An extremely thin strand, effectively giving it a rating of around 2 - 5 Amps or thereabouts. It's only a very rough guess on the low side. Low enough so that if there still is a short the wire will melt rather than the bridge rectifier explode but will still allow the unit to run if there is no other fault. Obviously, ideally you replace the fuse with a similar rated one. Although the unit has been running on average 8 hours a day every day since it was repaired and still works.
I've had the fuse be the only issue before. Seems to be caused by faulty home electrical, power surge, or something else external. Thanks for the videos! Keep it up!
Thanks for your video - bought a PS4 for my kids -- only to get that click sound. Followed your video to open the powersupply only to find one of those cables broken off - think stemed from the fact that it is old. I will be taking it to the shop tomorrow to have it fixed and hopefully it works - will update you but thanks for your guidance.
Thanks for the video and for the great teaching. If something else were in short the varistor would be in short as well, so it could blow up the fuse. Maybe it was because of the bad quality of the fuse, nothing special about it. -- You can use a 70 up to 100W lamp in series with mains voltage to test switching power supplies without worrying about if something more is on short or not. A lamp in series will create a current drop across it, and nothing will blow up. If the lamps light up at maximum brightness, something is bad. That's a must have in repair business. I believe you know this technique.
I like the way you do your videos. Funny as well as informative. I just subscribed cause I think I will learn a lot from watching your repairs. Component testing and fault finding would be good to see. I will check what else you have uploaded when I get some more time. Thanks very much for your good work
Guys, if you cleaned your PS4 and have a problem getting the PS4 to turn on or it turns on then off, you may have put the power supply back in wrong. Make sure the two long metal pieces are straight and not bent to where it reaches the power brick. Not placing it back in correctly also may make it hard to put the other plastic back on and difficult to put the screws back in the PS4. Went through this myself. Hopes that's the case and you too can save your money.
good job .. also there is variester after the fuse .. it is volt sensitive resister it shorts the power causing blown fuse .. the variester blows from the main power input surges
What did you do to that fuse? I appeared to be a fuse link added to the outside body? Is that a permanent fix? if so could you provide details on how to do that?
Great video! Sometimes it's just that simple. I suppose a voltage spike might of blown the fuse. I'm away to buy a PS4 so this video may well come in handy - thanks!
Love your work. I'd as you shown me and my knife touched the bottom of the board and sparked. I'm not good with testers so do I think it's dead or that's normal. Great work btw. Subscribed.
I have a quick question, I got ps4 pro (CHU - 7116B) and does it match with (CUH-7115) (CUH-7015)(CUH-7215) is it possible to use one of these power supply for my ps4 pro for the (CHU - 7116B)
What a disappointment..... Only the fuse???? 😁😁😁 Sir thank you very much for your time and help to try help and support people like as to understand the basics of electronic. I'm less than a beginner but watching every single video you upload from start up to the end even sometimes I no clue what you are doing but is still very entertaining and fun. Thank you
What fuse did you use. Mines blow and its a T5AH250V but wanted to know if I can used a 4Amp fast blow fuse or should I get the original slow blow fuse.
Hi! The pfc (power factor correction circuit) capacitor might cause this fuse to blow. I opened one psu yesterday, very similar to yours, also found a blown fuse and all the rest apparently ok, so I also tried the "fairytale" trick:) So, I replaced the fuse and as soon as the 12v section kicked in it started whirring and only then I noticed the 180uF/450v capacitor was slightly bulged, meaning a new one was definitely needed a long time ago. Beware this is a PFC circuit capacitor, not a regular mains rectifier circuit filter capacitor, the voltage does rise above 400v instead of the usual 1.414xVac. I made a mistake and squeezed in a pair of 120uF/400v in parallel to try it out, it worked fine with no abnormal noises but I am replacing them asap with the original 180uF/450v one because the voltage might be in excess of 400v and I guess it should be safer to keep the original capacity value at this point also. There is one video on the net illustrating the voltages at this point in particular in the pfc circuit, in standby and full power on there are massive voltage differences. Not the usual rectifier bridge filter anymore or something like that, there is a coil in the circuit... Cheers, Hugo ( I am too old to see a obvious pfc circuit and understand what it does, unless it starts screaming in my face ;D )
Hi i have a ps4 white light problem and need advice. So i traded a faulty xbox one original for a supposed faulty ps4 original from a person that fixes consoles that wanted the Xbox for spares. So on the day i got home with the ps4 i used my ps3 cables to power it on and it miraculously powered on which surprised me as the controller was connected properly using the usb cable. But i saw the screen flash black then back to the home screen which i didn't know what is was then it did it once more and was displaying perfectly. After about 5 mins of waiting for it too show some errors or switching off because i did not expect it to work i plugged in my usb speakers to the other usb port on the front while the controller was plugged in. That was when the screen went black instantly. I didn't know what happened and pressed the eject button and a copy of GTA 5 came out which means the console was still powered on. When i plug the controller and speakers in on my ps3 super slim at the same time is says too many devices drawing power something like that. So i think it drew too much power on the ps4 and caused a wlod on the ps4. Im trying to do a home repair with minimal tools and if you could give me some idea of what the usb ports could have shorted eg a transistor or fuses or something. It still powers on and everything but that was the defining factor i think that contributed to the white light of death. Any recommendations would help as ive watched a lot of RUclips videos and most are the ic chip or some transistor . Its a original ps4 with wlod 1116A
My PS4 when trying to power on goes blue and then cuts out without switching on I've took it apart and put new harddrive in etc and still nothing?! Any suggestions
Sorin, I love your videos, i learn a lot from them. Two questions: 1. What fuse did u use and were to buy it? 2. How did u check with the multimeter if it was bad? Thanks! //Chris
Christoffer Denkert fuses are labeled with the mA rating and you check resistance or ohms. You can look in the glass of the fuse at the wire. If the wire is broken, it’s bad.
4:03 exactly. Bcos they want to exploit people by replacing every faulty console with a new one and charging for it. If people could repair it themselves then they would not be able to exploit them like that. That's why we need to choose a product that's open source, that's not restricted by the manufacturer, which is not hidden by the manufacturer. That's why PC is more valuable bcos it is open source. You can literally fix your own components in a pc, if you know what to do. But console peasants don't understand this bcos they think restricted access and hidden info is somekind of brand loyalty.
You're not to Old, that Fuse is blowing out in Play Station 3 too without anything shorted inside, I'm guessing that the fuse might blow up while connecting to AC outlet .
I'm working on this exact same model of ps4. The tiny fuse is blown I replaced it but still get no power on the secondary side. Btw the ps4 your working on is a fist gen model released in Saudi Arabia.
Hey bro I need your help I have the same supply N14-200P1A I have the same power supply number if you can give me the part number of the single fet mounted on a heat sink since the guy who tried to repair the power supply before me removed this fet in particular and I can't find the part number so if you can give it to me that would be alot of help thanks any way the fet is placed on heat sink hs5 he incraved the number on the heat sink lt6113 but I think he incarved a wrong part number since I can't find any electronic component by this number so please check it for me thanks any way
Hey Sorin, you were kind of blocking the way when you were replacing the fuse. Could you tell me what you did there? did you put a new fuse or did you do something to the previous one? if you could explain it me please, thanks :)
he used a bit of fuse wire to make temporary fuse on top the glass one not a permanent solution but saves buying new glass fuses as they can become expensive.

You are not old. Becuase you check components. In your experience the fuses Open because of a short. And you tested the components that normaly are the culprit (transistors, diodes, capacitors). And replaced the fuse wire.
I cannot understand why you don't have more subscribers and views.

how many watts has yours?

I have a digital soldering station (60w) from maplin and 450 degrees Celsius is the max temperature setting
60w its ok, probably you are not using flux or you try to solder large ground pads. But i will do a video about soldering soon

SOMETIMES.........YES..IT S JUST A POWER SURGE
You are not old. Becuase you check components. In your experience the fuses Open because of a short. And you tested the components that normaly are the culprit (transistors, diodes, capacitors). And replaced the fuse wire.
Well presented...
