@@makethemove101 Yes, our move is based on several factors, the primary one is our daughters schooling. So whenever we have moved in the past, i first find a school and then the rest will fall into place.
In my reseaching of Bali, i ran across a school called Spark Bali, it is Ubud...it is a very unique school for teenagers..
Ubud was the home of Traditional Balinese Medicine, which is of importance to us because both myself and my wife are Classical Chinese Medicine Doctors..
There is a small town North of Ubud called Payangan, where some of the first Chinese merchants settled in Bali...so we hope to establish a health Sanctuary there...

@@doctorbambu Totally agree, when you have children then the school will often decide the further plans of the move.
Your plans to set up a health sanctuary sounds wonderful.
The villages and area north of Ubud are still very 'untouched' I can imagine you will find a beautiful place to live. Thanks again for watching our videos and sharing your story. Matt and Monico

Hi Matt and Monico, thanks for a very informative video!
One more tip, which I think is one of the easiest way to find monthly house rental anywhere in the world, is the Airbnb.
Just type the location of Lombok you wanted, for example Lombok Tengah area, on the search result, select filter of "Long Term Stay", there you go! A list full of houses, villas and bungalows which are available to be rented monthly. And usually, Airbnb hosts will put special discounted rental price for long term stay compared to nightly stay. (I am also an Airbnb Host by the way 😃).
I look forward for your next update of finally settled-in to live in Lombok!

Hi! Thank you so much for commenting and adding your valuable tip. We did include AirBnb when searching for a place in Jakarta. AirBnB is a great option for Lombok too. Yearly rent would be too long, or not? What kind of options do you have for 1 to 2 years? Kind regards, Matt and Monico

@@makethemove101 - Well… I’m a bit closer now. I went back to the US in Mid-January and wrapped up all my entanglements there, selling things and giving away a lot of it… Then in mid-July took a one-way flight back to Indonesia… I’m staying in Jakarta at the moment, just two hours by plane from Lombok. In about ten days we are heading back to Bali for a short visit. I’ve still got my eyes on Senggigi… I love that place. I do however want to take a trip to the south western coast of Sumatra for a look-see. And I recently became aware of great surfing spot on the south coast of Java - a south facing exposure facing the Indian Ocean - Pantai Watukarung - small town about 2.5 hours drive from Jogja - soon… I’m closer now.

@@noahjuanjuneau9598 Wow that is exciting news. It's great to hear that you are still open to other options as well, despite having fallen in love with Singigi. If you are in a wonderful position to choose where you want to live, then it is wise to check other options too. Indonesia is a country that you can explore for a lifetime. When living in let's say Lombok or wherever you have enough opportunity to explore more.

Me and my GF thought about this aswell since she still lives in Indonesia and im from Germany. I visited Lombok and Bali and i much prefer Lombok over Bali. Shes living in Jakarta but thats nothing for me, since the traffic is so bad and i cant go for walks and riding my bicycle, also the Pollution is so bad there. She on the other hand doesent like Lombok so much because she loves the city. Most likely she will come to Germany but if we would go to live in Indonesia Bali or Bandung would be a good compromise. Bandung is actually pretty nice since its not as hot there.

Hi, thank you so much for sharing your story. Yes, if you come from Jakarta then Lombok is very slow ☺. I know many who are from Jakarta and love living in Bali because in some areas it has kind of the same buzz. And coming from Germany, I can imagine that Jakarta isn't the place you picture yourself living. Bandung is a nice alternative, I mostly know it as a student city and the muziek. Once you get to know the city, you will definitely appreciate it. Good luck with finding your home together. Monico

Hi thanks for your comment! Yes you can live comfortably in Lombok for a much lower monthly budget. However we have included schooling, visa agent fees, travel expenses etc. If we would move to Lombok it would be for years, not a couple of months or a year. That's why our monthly budget is way more higher then those you see on other youtube channels. Are you living in Lombok or any other place in Indonesia? What is your expected budget? @@zoujou5000 That is true. In our monthly cost of living, we included food: groceries and eating out. Yes, you are right...you can eat for very cheap in Lombok. And from our own experience, we buy more 'expensive' products at the supermarket such as bread, oatmeal, nuts etc. What is your experience with groceries? w

This is outrages, too much spending there.
Even for Dutch standards its high.

    • @makethemove101
      @makethemove101  Год назад +1

Hi thanks for your comment. Yes it is high, totally agree. But as we mentioned we also added tuition fees (which you don't have in the Netherlands), health insurance (higher than in the Netherlands), rental of a house can be high depending on what you choose and location and additional visa and immigration costs plus we aim to travel more and also fly back to the Netherlands whenever necessary. When living with children abroad you just want to be financially secure. We believe it is wise to aim higher in monthly costs in order to have savings and be able to live there long term (no pension etc). So not just for 6 months like many do who of course need far less a month. Our move to Indonesia should be an upgrade of living for us, not a move where we will be living on the lowest budget possible. Does that make sense or do you think we need far less? Any tips and ideas are welcome! Cheers, Matt and Monico
