How little?
I was going to say the same thing and I'm one of "THEM"
Hating the English is everyones culture. Even the English
Thank you as always MM for my weekly dose of History, Horrible History's have done a great song about O,O, Owain Glyndwr (sung like Welsh Tom Jones', My Delila) and his rebellion as a great Welsh Hero, cool. 😊❤
Horrible Histories! 😍😍😍
He is my 20xGreat-grandfather! Glad to see his story here! 😊
I enjoyed this! Very similar in many ways to King Edward I invasion of Scotland, most of those commanders active in the Welsh wars.
Some great images in there also!
Thank you! Subscribed!
Go Owain! 🏴
Owain Glyn Dwr spent the first two-thirds of his life serving in the English military (army and navy) and studying law at the Inns of Court in London. He married an Englishwoman, Margaret Hanmer, and was a loyal retainer of both the Earl of Arundel and Richard II. He didn't 'hate the English', per se, but the regime of Bolingbroke or 'Henry of Lancaster', as Glyn Dwr called him.
Thanks for the video!

Hmm. The Tudors were Welsh. Wouldn't they have been the last Welsh family to hold the Prince of Wales title?
Maybe he means Welsh both born and bred, which the Tudor monarchs were not, even if their ancestors and part of their education was in Wales.
Diolch!
nice
Scotland approves
He was merely one among many.
Super Furry Animals refer to him on one of their B-sides...so rad to learn about the man behind the legend 🤩
Seems to have come full circle. There are a lot of new Welsh folk who seem to hate the English
I cannot understand this hatred against the English. Why, in this age? What’s the point for goodness sake, of all this hostility? My Northumbria was once a separate Kingdom, so what? No one is denying us our history and heritage. It has never been more import to standard together as a people. There are enough modern problems to deal with.
There are a lot more English folk who hate the Welsh.
@@jacquelinekirk5601 BUT identity and self-governance is still a modern issue. Past events are being kept alive in the current day memory: Cromwell in Ireland, partition, the famine; Highland clearances, William Wallace, wars of independence; the Conquests of Wales, banning the Welsh language, etc. This along with the slow devolution of The Union and push for full independence for Wales and Scotland, would show there are many who's national feeling is not to stand together with the Union, as, with having their own identity and languages, they are different peoples to the English.
Interesting you bring up troublesome Northumbria 🤣, well as England has only existed since 927, the last true Anglo-Saxon King (on his father's side) was Edward the Confessor with the end of the House of Wessex. Since then our monarchy and aristocracy have been decended from foreigners, yet it is the English people who get the blame for the past not those that ruled us...
As for no one denying our history and heritage, I would strongly disagree. We have had just that, it's been undermined for decades. You can't fly the national flag without being branded a racist, but not for the Scots or Welsh; we don't have a holiday for our patron saint; we're told there's no such people as the English because the Anglo-Saxons came from Europe so no different from more recent immigrants, even though the English people came into being with a united England, their heritage from that point was irrelevent. Post-conquest till today, the only English were the serfs. Old English customs are mocked, not celebrated. We have the lagacy of Empire where it's the English only that get the blame. Children aren't being taught their history because we have diversity due to a minority...need I go on. Animosity still exists in the Americas, even Biden brought it up... England and English history seems to have become something to be ashamed of and best not mentioned.
In the end, the only country that recognises England as a country with an Anglo-Saxon heritage will be the French, even if it's used in a derogatory manner...

I can give you a BIG list of other medieval Welsh dudes that hated them
Which one?
Not much has changed
Yup and it’s hilarious. The Welsh / Irish and Scottish are obsessed with hating the English while we couldn’t give a toss 😂 rent free
@@sherlockgnomes8971yes that must be why a lot of English call us Paddy’s / Taff’s / Jocks and wonder why we dislike that
@@ninogaggi Oh, who's the "a lot of English" that say that? Is that what you're told or is that what you heard being said? In all honesty, we really couldn't give a toss. The last 'English King' would have been Edward the Confessor (last king of the House of Wessex), so, you like us are ruled by foreigners!
@@LoremIpsum1970 Who are all these Welsh, Scots and Irish who are obsessed with hating the English? You can find just as big a percentage of English hating the Welsh, Scottish and Irish as the other way around. And it's not a majority of people on either side.
@@bujin1977 That's what I was asking, it's not really a thing. So, "just as big a percentage" on all sides, is in reality "a small percentage". I've never come across any open animosity with the Irish, but I have with a small number of Welsh and Scots, and that's their problem not mine, they can take that up with out foreigner aristocracy. Taking this further, a Welsh friend's father went and worked in Paris, this was in the 90s, no one would speak to him until they found out he was Welsh, not English 🤣 What also makes me laugh is the French obsession of refering to 'Anglo-Saxon' countries...
Wull, who didn't back then?
To be fair doesn't everyone hate the English?
I don't 🙂
Idk what it is with Wales, but everything sounds 100x better when it takes place in there! Those folks are so fun! Look at this fucking dragon -> 🏴 i love it!!
Surely finding a welshy without a chip on their shoulder about the English is more tricky?
Medieval Madness 🤪😜😝🥴
I love England and I love being English but please don't think we are all Anglo-Saxon for many of us still have celt and viking in us its the south that's Anglo-Saxon the northern and Eastern parts are not and never truly have been. I also find it very amusing how much we are hated, i don't see the point we aren't the only country in the world that has been dictators and cruel it's just we were the best at it all done with pomp and ceremony 🤗😁🤣❤🏴
Askeladd was just that guy
I'm sure they hated him too!
Not very specific. Welshmen hating the English isn’t very unique. LOTS of people hate the English. The Welsh, Scottish, Irish, French, Americans...it’s a very long list.
🫢👍
Apparently, now we are hated by the whole world LOL
People love to hate, and England is an easy target as most people speak English.
Now that we have the Euros, "everyone" is particularly keen to see England fail. It's often said that this is because of the arrogance of the English but they are no more arrogant than anyone else. Sure the English often expect the national team to do well, but why wouldn't they? The Spanish, German, Italian, French, even Dutch go into tournaments with equally high hopes, but nobody calls them arrogant. The same is true for many non-European countries... These attitudes go under the radar so to say because of the language barrier I think.
It's ridicculous for people to get so butthurt by English fans singing "It's coming home". They're just cheering on their team just like everyone else is. They are no more arrogant than anyone else in general.
Speaking as a Finn so don't really have a horse in this race, but singling out England and the English for having attitudes that ALL fan bases have is really a bit rich.
Digressing quite heavily from the historical topic here, sorry about that.
I completely agree with you, Boogie Smell. As an Englishman, I am immensely proud of our heritage and the fact that we gave the world our language. Despite this, some people will always find reasons to direct their animosity towards us due to historical contexts. However, we modern Englishmen are not accountable for the actions of the past. Instead, we take great pride in our monumental contributions to humanity, such as pioneering the Industrial Revolution and establishing modern democracy.
It’s crucial to remember that while we excelled in colonizing a significant portion of the world, we too were once colonized by the Danish and the French. Yet, we harbor no ill will towards them. I speak as a representative of the modern generation, free from the shadows of ancient conflicts like the Hundred Years’ War.
There are many individuals, like yourself, who hold our culture in high esteem. However, I’ve grown accustomed to being disliked because of historical contexts, which is why I now choose to make light of it. It’s absurd for people to take offense at English fans’ enthusiasm, such as singing “It’s coming home.” We are merely cheering for our team, just as everyone else does. Singling out the English for attitudes that all fan bases share is, indeed, unfair.
Thank you for your insightful comment.
@@anenglishmanplusamerican7107 I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've written there. So likewise I thank you for your similarly insightful comment.
But as a part of a balanced approach, I must highlight that the English fanbase can at times be really terrible. The negativity and hostility towards the opposition, very common still in the stadiums in the PL is quite deeply rooted among the fans. That everyone else also does it doesn't make it more ok in my opinion.
However when English fans choose to support their own team, they are amazing. Singing the national anthem during games, and spontaneously singing "Hey Jude" after Bellingham scored... beautiful. No one else does this. Many other countries have very singable anthems, but it's only the English who sing "God Save the King (or Queen earlier)! Simply brilliant.
Well I hope it does come home this summer, it would be well deserved. Although in a cup format such as the Euros or the World Cup (or the FA Cup, as opposed to the League where the best team over a long season always wins), the best team doesn't have to win and quite often doesn't. It's a bit of a lottery among the top teams where a simple moment can be so decisive. Luck plays a bigger part in these tournament than people often realize.
Come on England!!
Now I've completely taken this off the rails from the original topic of the clip 😄
@@boogiesmell5181
Very well said, I completely agree with you. I also do not like the hostility from our team; I feel terrible for the opponents/players who are competing against us. Sportsmanship requires a balanced approach, as you wrote. When I hear “God Save the King,” I always cry and hold my head high!
And that’s the thing about comments, they can go right off the subject of the video very fast, just like we did!
