Exotic catalysts are the most important items in Destiny 2. Exotic catalysts can turn even the worst exotics into top tier options. In this video I go over what every exotic catalyst does and how to get all exotic catalysts. This is updated as of the Bungie 30th anniversary update in Season of the Lost. There is currently no way to get outbreak perfected catalyst, whisper of the worm catalyst, heir apparent catalyst, or eriana's vow catalyst. The most recent catalysts are the Gjallarhorn catalyst, Forerunner catalyst, and Arbalest catalyst. As someone that sucks at PVP, I absolutely hate how many catalysts are locked behind crucible wins.
With new Grasp of Avarice dungeon you can also farm opening encounter, since hive will spawn forever. BUT it has 1 major flaw - Burden Engrams explode and kill mobs, so if you dont pick them up, it will create a chain reaction between killing mobs-dropping engrams-death by engrams-repeat.
And you dont need to go all the way to the Thrall Encounter in Throne :)

much easier to just do shuro chi. just use the wish wall to spawn there, use raid banners and wipe whenever you clear all the enemies.
I always liked the Shattered Throne I just camp in the staircase in the first Thrall room after the labyrinth.
Sorrows harbor on the moon works fine for me.

correction for whisper, the activation time for whispered breathing got reduced to 1.2 seconds

The thing he doesn’t mention about witherhoard is the 400 kills are the quick bit you also need 100 guardian kills with grenade launchers and 300 luker (which you get very slowly, it’s 1 per strike etc)
It's hard, especially with the grenade launcher nerf. But if you ever grinded for the impossible mountaintop, the fastest way to get it was tether. All you need to do now is take your old mountaintop, tether people in mayhem or 6v6 and get multi kills because it counts any kills distributed by that weapon damage as a multi kill. Makes grenade launcher kills extremely easy

Best way to get luker is when lake of shadows is out, gm = 3 per completed

He’s wrong about eriana though. Once you get it you can grab the cat quest from banshee
For Lumina's catalyst, I found the quickest way was running Altars of Sorrow. Keep refreshing until you find an instance with a decent number of players, and just keep buffing everyone. They don't need to be in your fire team.
A easy farm spot is harbors sorrow on moon with the wave events. Fast to get to and easy to get rapid kills if you focus on the little ones.

Eriana's vow catalyst is given to you by banshee. There's only 3 catalysts that are unobtainable at the moment and those 3 are: the fourth horseman, outbreak perfected, and whisper of the worm.

Excellent Guide, however, there a few things that are either incorrect or need to be noted.
The Eriana's Vow Catalyst is currently available as a quest from Banshee-44 which requires 400 playlist wins to unlock, and 700 kills to complete. (yes, that is playlist WINS, meaning your team must win in gambit or crucible)
The catalyst for Polaris Lance is buggy, the Perfect Fifth kills will not register most of the time; based on my extensive testing it seems that one out of every ten or so kills will actually register as progress, effectively making it 500 kills and 500 perfect fifth kills.
As of the 30th Anniversary Update the catalyst for Leviathan's Breath also grants Archer's Tempo; it also maximizes the ammo reserves.
The catalyst for Dead Man's Tale can be completed by finding all of the log entries and opening their respective caches scattered throughout the Presage mission; you unlock the ability to open one cache per week that you have completed the mission.

The issue with Polaris Lance catalyst isn't bugged, it's just not telling you what it actually needs.
They need to die from the burn damage of the perfect fifth shot, not the explosion. If it's the explosion, it won't count.

You're wrong on the vow, it's 400 playlist completions not wins
I recently started a alternate account to do carries in non flawless pool and still be able to play normally on my main Friday to Sunday. I was very surprised at how often catalysts drop these days. Apart from nightfall strike catalysts they are very common.
The Polaris Lance catalyst is an absolute nightmare because the explosion doesn't count, it needs to be the burn damage that kills the enemy.
A really good spot I found is the beginning of prophecy as there's a decent amount of ads constantly spawning which are a tiny bit more resilient than the regular enemies you find in strikes, AoS, etc. which will allow them to resist the explosion more often if you shoot it at the floor and instead burn to death, there's also unlimited knights in the back which are easy to get your perfect fifth bullet as they don't move a lot and have a big crit spot.
*tldr:* go to the beginning of prophecy, get your explosive bullet with the knights on the back, shoot the floor where the ads are and let them burn to death, wait for everything to respawn and repeat.
For anyone who (specifically newer players) grinds the catalysts out in the thrallway, I’d recommend using a titan running bottom tree siege breaker as the solar ability kills can heal you. Warlocks have healing rift as their class ability. As for hunter I’m unsure if they have any healing capabilities but there are armor mods that can help heal you by picking up orbs and I believe picking up wells also. I main titan so I was easily able to complete around 8-12 catalysts in about 2 and a half to 3 and a half hours.

If you want to lvl up heavy weapon catalysts and you dont want to spend raidbanners (on shuro chi for example) play dares of eternity because of the starshorse favors buff (it gives you infinite heavy ammo)
I completed all my heavy catalysts this way. Way better this way.

Skywatch in the cosmodrome is a good spot. The the last wish raid can be a little difficult for new players.
if anyone doesn't have forsaken (and hence can't enter the shattered throne) i would recommend the thralls in prophecy, for a fairly consistent enemy flow, OR kingship doc in the tangled shore, for more GROUPS of enemies.

The Polaris Lance catalyst is unlocked through getting perfect fifth burn kills so you need to stick an enemy with the perfect fifth shot have it explode near another enemy and have the enemy burned to death The burn won’t activate if it’s just shot at the ground
They have since removed the perfect fifth kills

Whisper and Outbreak perfected catalyst can be obtained by playlists activities. They do have a really low chance on dropping but can be still 100% obtained that way.
? I got erianas quest from the gunsmith straight after i picked it up from the exotic vault a month ago
you can get eriana's vow catalyst from a gunsmith quest, I think it requires 300 playlist activities completed
To look at what catalyst go to collections and to the mid right of the page push on patterns and catalyst and scroll over to the right

Can the strike catalyst be earned from the director strikes (for example, farming lake of shadows) or does it have to be playlist strikes?
I do my heavy ammo catalysts here takes about 10-11 runs to fully level up my catalysts
Are there best practices for finding catalysts from playlist activities? For example, I’ve had Hard Light for 6+ months, and do pretty regular strikes, but still don’t have the catalyst. Do I need to have this equipped? Finish all other catalysts for weapons I don’t care about?
Levithan’s Breath catalyst also adds Archer’s Tempo as of 30th Anniversary patch.
I've noticed it's a little buggy though, it's almost impossible to get another precision hit onto the boss as it takes too long to draw it back still, you almost have to not fully draw it to actually hit it in time, kinda rough if you ask me. After hearing that leviathan's was getting archers tempo I was keen as but it kinda doesn't give this super slept on exotic any justice
@@williamansell2422 leviathans breath isn’t slept on it’s just dogshit. You’d have more use from just running no heavy weapon

@@williamansell2422 I agree with you in that the Archer’s Tempo is a bit hit or miss. Imho, it needs an overall draw time buff. I love, however, hitting a yellow bar with a precision hit and watching all of his minions go flying. Even better when there is a cliff for them to fall over.

if you get eriana's vow from the kiosk, then you'll unlock the quest for the catalyst which requires 400 activites completed. it will take a while
Im assuming you only have to have the weapon equipped to register for the catalyst. Do you have to collect a specific item to trigger ut!?

It’s soooooo worth it. As someone who tried to grind out spire of stars before it was vaulted, I was ecstatic when I got it from the world lootpool drop :)

Everyone, if you dee this, for riskrunner, you are given the 500 enemy kills at the end of the quest, just make sure to use it for the arc conductor kills, that wont auto complete

The Ace of Spades catalyst dropped for me after winning a Control match in The Crucible as well. Not sure what triggered the drop though.

Does Acrius catalyst not increase the magazine to 6, rather than 4? you stated it increases the magazine by 2. It originally has 2.
uhhhh they updated vex catalyst with its giant buff at the end of splicer. It now Grants stability and dmg after a kill.
How to obtain Midas catalyst was change 2 seasons ago.To get catalyst you will need to reach Survival Mythic 1 (3500 rank and above). Once reaching Mythic 1 it will be matter of time and rng to get it.

Legend Rank for Glory is not necessary for the Mida, it just drastically increases your chances of the catalyst dropping.
Why didn't you cover the Exotic bow Le Monarque? That one is super important
Outbreak catalyst doesn't just make your nanites do more damage. It also makes any enemy who had nanites on them spawn five nanites when they die.
Very useful for clearing lots of low tier enemies, you can get a single head shot on a thrall or dreg, let the nanite cloud kill one or two, who will then spawn more. The seekers will kill another one or two, and they'll continue to spread like that.

@@ImportLenz The process to get it was very difficult and involved. It makes sense that it'd be hard to get, but they should bring that back. They apparently plan to.
Should just bring those hidden quests back and drop them in the Legends tab I say. Put them on a rotation for pinnacle gear.
@@ImportLenz update for ya. Yesterdays TWAB mentioned that catalysts that belong to weapons whose missions are no longer in game will be brought back with Witch queen. This includes Dead Mans Tale, Hawkmoon, Outbreak Perfected, Whisper of the Worm, and fourth horsemen. If I remember correctly they’ll be placed in the playlists

Yo, the eriana's vow catalyst is available via a quest from banshee just like symmetry's is, it a slog just like it too. 400 runs of any activity, crucible gambit or strikes
I feel like these both **HEAVILY** relied on seasonal catalyst boosts, and they weren't designed without them in mind. "We don't want you to unlock it TOO quickly, now do we?"
You can get erianas vow caty from banshee and fourth horsemens caty isnt in game current as its lost sectors are season of the worthy sectors which arent in game now

Correction: the Polaris Lance catalyst only counts kills with Perfect Fifth's *burn* damage, not the impact or explosion.
Best way I found to grind this is the first area in Dares of Eternity; stack your perk on the Thrall and then headshot a full-HP Acolyte for the burn kill, then repeat.
You can also do that on the Cosmodrome at The Divide, by using the Spider Tank legs to get the Perfect Fifth continuously.

You don't need Legend in Comp for MIDA. I've gotten mine on Mythic. Before dropping down to Fabled again. Also Momentum Control is the best place to lvl it up.
Yes, the catalyst drop for MIDA changed. It can drop now by winning comp matches.
