- Grasp of Avarice is the brand new dungeon in Destiny 2. It has some of the best weapons in the game including Eyasluna, 1000 Yard Stare, Matador 64, and Gjallarhorn! This is the 30th anniversary dungeon. In this video I go over how to beat the Grasp of Avarice dungeon solo flawless in Season of the Lost. You don't even need any previous experience with the dungeon. This is how anyone can solo flawless Grasp of Avarice to unlock the Piratic Ambitions emblem, Ensilvered Snare shader, and Gjallarhorn as a solo player. I use only weapons that can be easily obtained by anyone or weapons that are easily replaced. I also go over some of the best ways to stay alive while you solo the dungeon. The Scorch Cannons are good for taking out the yellow bars in the boss room and clearing the ogre side rooms without using any of your own ammo. Makes double special much more viable here.
I used Jouten until the first boss. It was great
The health regen from the lament was how I did it on my first and second run through. It took five cyles but it worked well for me.
for the beginning and between the bosses and the shield encounter I used a sword (falling guillotine) and passive guard for easy damage reduction and to quickly burn through groups of ads
Also, don't be scared to use your supers because for every 10 of those engrams you get you get your super back.

A tip that I’ve found:
Getting ‘Burdened by Riches x10’ instantly refunds all of your abilities, including your super.
Probably could have used a little more info on the sparrow race section; it's EXTREMELY hard to do by yourself if you don't have the Always on Time sparrow that makes enemies shoot at you less. Normal exotic sparrows just fall apart like tissue paper in that section and I'd predict that most flawless runs will end here if people don't have Always on Time.

That part on master is so annoying somehow on my 1st run we got through it 1st try but then 2nd with different ppl took about 10+ tries
This needs a hundred more likes. It’s actually stupid how flimsy sparrows (that aren’t AOT) are.
Sparrow section almost had me missing that Ogre lol
Sparrow section is so good but sucks at the same time without Always on Time. Not only is the less aggro better but the bug that gives it 180 speed is so much more consistent with the man cannons at the end. I found the most consistent strat to resummmon at Mine C then using an extra boost right before entering the man cannons to be perfect for getting across. Also doing an extra boost midair getting to B over the ads is also very consistent for not getting blown up.
I’ve done the sparrow run perfectly up until the last bomb twenty times now, because I run out of time somehow even tho I hit the last bonus node. Who ever made this encounter, I wish unspeakable things upon you.
Heavily agree, and it seems like the extender nodes don’t even extend the time most of the time
I'd recommend if you aren't comfortable or don't want to risk going for 20 engrams in the boss encounter you can play it safe and do 4 rounds of 15 engrams. if you get nervous near the end like I did you can drop that to 6 groups of 10 if you dont want to risk having to go near the water. it'll take a bit longer but you won't have to risk dipping the toes, dying, and resetting. also another strat for dps is to go behind the boss where the giant box is that way in case you need to get out in a hurry.
The reason the water kills you, is a halo callback. It's about the joke that Chief can survive a fall from space but dies in a teaspoon of water
Great taste but bad execution
I recommend starting up Halo 3 and the mission Sierra 117, at the section where a pelican is being shot down by some banshees(coming in fast and low) you should jump in the water and tell me what happens.
That's just Death barrier map limitations. I dont remember a single time you just blatantly die in water that isnt an out of map kill barrier. Mjolnir is hermetically sealed, they can breathe in space and water. Even in Halo 1 20 years ago you can sit in the giant pool of Covenant Super carrier Coolant with 0 consequences. They're just too heavy to swim. Load up Halo 3 and play Sierra 117 like the other guy said, you just go straight to the bottom of the water but can walk around. I know you didn't ask and dont care, but if this really is a callback to that by bungie it's extremely obscure and bothers me that they'd do something so inaccurate 😂
Best tip for the boss sections seems to be taking ones time. There's no limit on the number of damage phases you can do, and as long as you're not timing out from picking up engrams, you're safe to chill. Hell, I even went to the bathroom between thrall waves lol.

Honestly ran double special for most of this. Only ran riskrunner on sparrow for arc resist and servitors (eager edge sword is huge on sparrow to go zoom) for add clear. Ran an smg in final boss too.
Keep in mind you get full super and abilities every time you pick up 10 engrams. Allows you to swap and run multiple subclasses per encounter.
Ogre I ran shadebinder to clear one room, burn your super before picking up the full 10+ to get my super back and deposit. Did the same on the other side and then picked up 8, threw a turret to start stabbing the ogre, swapped to well and lunas, picked up the rest to get my well and deposited. Turret lasts for 25 seconds so you should have focusing lense for a good portion of the dps phase. Can do roughly half the ogres health if you’re quick. Can do the same on the final encounter with the turret as well.
I used 1k in the final boss. Would drop well on crystal and kill the mini bosses as they come out the door. You get ten from the vandal so you have your well back instantly basically.
trinity ghoul would probably be best for ad clear in the last part, people have said its more chaotic than prophecy. then use threaded needle with frenzy against the boss. possibly blinding grenade igniton code for most of the trash
For those wondering if you don’t have always on time sparrow try the mini sparrow. It comes with a perk that gives you instant summoning on it so if it almost gets destroyed jump off and summon it back in lest than half a second. It also has a smaller hit box.

You can grab the Scorch Cannon from below the catwalk during the first boss. Nothing crazy, but could be helpful in a pinch.

There’s a big skip you can do where you jump to the last room and flip the switches to avoid the other ones on the way

Also, flawless friends. Be careful during the sparrow section if you hit a button there is a 50/50 chance of it not resetting the bomb countdown timer. It’s totally random and will kill your runs.

Edit: Also, you will have a harder time if you don’t have the “Always On Time” sparrow.

I never had an issue with the buttons not working on any of my runs.
Be careful tho, some sparrow have a rough time making the jump into the left side of the skull face. Specifically the mini sparrow
I don’t comment often but this is probably the best structured guide I’ve seen in a while, I ran the dungeon once with a friend, but I do think u could’ve put more emphasis on the sparrow run cause even exotics blow up like nothing so maybe show some routes that get you shot less
Thanks for the comment! Most of the enemies are on the zones so I’m not too sure if any particular route would make much of a difference. If my sparrow gets shot a few times / catches fire I usually hop off at a safe spot and quickly spawn another one. Idk if that’s much help but that’s what I do. It also helps to have the “always on time” sparrow or one of the other few sparrows that cause enemies to shoot you less.

Getting back to the game after a year, my first endeavor was to get back to my stubborn soloing ways in GoA...it did not go well. I will try again thanks to this vid, though...seeing as void is the flavor of the season, I wonder what would be most optimal now that particle deconstruction is gone

Man I bought the witch queen digital deluxe + the anniversary pack bundle for $108 because I thought I would be getting back into it with my boys, but I’ve found myself playing it by myself or randoms because they moved on ahead and I’m behind because I work and don’t have time to be playing like that, but when I do have time and want to play, they don’t wanna help me out or even bother which honestly sucks because I feel like I wasted my money if I knew I’d be on my own.
I dont have any friends. Recently got back into D2 (today) and bought the stupid pack but didnt realize the Ghorn was tied to this dungeon.
This dungeon is easy. The hardest part is the sparrow for flawless because those ads are random. Sometimes they go ballistic sometimes they just chill.
What I have found for the sparrow encounter is that if you drive right through the bombs down or close to the middle you don't have to stop and can speed your way through the encounter. Although I have had times where the enemies destroy me but yeah.
Awesome guide. Can you please update it for the current season? The particule deconstruction is no longer available and I am wondering how could this be done without the strong damage buff of that Mod

DUDE I just spent 4 hours on the dungeon (before I just did the last boss but not the entire dungeon) and I collected ALL messages and got the Gjallarhorn CATALYST solo. THANK YOU, if it wasn't for this video in my recommendations i don't think I would have even tried. I also never tried other dungeons solo, might do it idk : )

I began soloing this at 7pm. I got to the scorch cannon part by myself. My buddy joined me until the very end. We died with the final boss at 15% left. It was 12:30am by this time. After an hour we asked a third guy to help with final room starting it all over. With my two good buddies we knocked out the final room in less than 30 minutes. It was 2am when I finally got the first part of Gally. By 3am, I had the first rocket shoot from my new Gally since D1! Crazy...I'm just an average gamer and can't believe I accomplished this!

really wish you gave more info on the sparrow part. since i don't have the raid sparrow that makes you less of a target that whole section feels like rng and not skill. so frustrating
What about riskrunner for final boss? Maybe run blinding nades ignition code, riskrunner, frenzy threaded needle with particle deconstruction. Definitely more than 3 phases, but you would be unkillable on a devour warlock.
That’s good for staying alive but it would definitely take a while
i can't beat it with hunter.. it takes forever to drain the boss hp away when going solo.. :(
Picking up 10 engrams instantly fills your super so don't be afraid to use it everytime you go to deposit
@3:30 you can use the activate the switch in that room again if you cant jump across from that ledge
Just so you all know, 10x Burdened by Greed AUTOMATICALLY Refills your super, so don't be stingy with it during the Ogre and boss phase!
Got the day one clear with clan mates then immediately started working on solo strats. Got the flawed, and flawless solo on day two less than 24 hours from my first clear. So did a lot of people, but it was my first time doing it that soon after launch so I'm happy.
I would also suggest putting on a linear fusion re-loader on your gauntlets. It can help you get a few more shots with sleeper.
The armor pice that u got at 4:10 wasn’t in the chest that I’ve opened any ideas?

If its your first run, then the loot chest(s) along the way dont give anything. Not even glimmer. I've reset my checkpoint just to get that chest (i was curious) but nope: nothing came out of it. (I didn't reach the final boss yet) At least the one in the big circle was empty, two times. So i guess you have to succeed the dungeon first, to get loot in a later attempt?
Also i've noticed that if you die in that circle and respawn: the chest is there again, unopened. (But empty in my case.)

Great video except you missed one part. During the 1st boss fight you can't collect any Ingrams if you have your super active. So wait till it expires.

The fact that anybody could even do this solo blows my mind I don't feel that these should be this difficult or should require so much shield preparation that you have to do everything in 4 to 5 phases. What happened to just shooting the boss from the start?

I can flawless solo all parts of this dungeon but what I can’t do is play through one entire run without getting disconnected from bungie servers. What’s worse is I’ve been trying to get the gjallahorn catalyst for over a month now but if you’re disconnected during the dungeon, the chests get bugged and neither the chest or the vandal show up.

Nice vid, but there’s a bucket load of traps that don’t get mentioned in the vid that will kill you instantly and ruin your flawless attempts, so don’t run anywhere near as fast as he does in the vid. Watch your step.

I want to pay the version of the game everybody else seems to play. When my team trios it we were doing (at 1350, 135, 1335 light and particle and well of radiance and tether) the same dmg combined vs the first boss as you were solo while using same weapons, our sparrows were being literally 1-shot by everything on the mine route, and my fusion grenades (same used in video) were requiring sunbracer's 2x duration buff to kill the dregs if they stood in it the entire duration while this video has them melting long before non-sunbracers run out. Oddly the bosses had the same hp, just everything was taking massively reduced damage.
Only thing I can think is my friend accidentally put us on a higher light level version without telling me. Always on Time is also a required sparrow for the sparrow section due to the reduction in being shot at and the hidden, heavily increased sparrow speed over all other sparrows.
That said, this guide was extremely helpful.
Would you say the best class for this is the Warlock? Have you tried with other classes?
Warlock is probably the easiest but invis hunter was a close second

How difficult is this mission for a person with a light level of 1270?
We did this very similarly! I used trinity ghoul for ad clear before the ogre and during the fallen shield part. Very effective, and used your loadouts for the boss fights, with the exception of night watch. Not having always on time was a pain until I got the encounter down though.
I was gonna say did u just not know at the time about the fact that 10 engrams fills ur super up at the tenth that you pick up?
The yellow bar vandal in the boss room steals your exotic debuff engrams if he’s still alive when you spawn the engrams

You, my friend, are so good at making user-friendly guides.
In the dam part if you go straight to the far back left jump into the room in the ceiling, you can open the first big door. You don't even need to activate any other switches. The far left room is already open so activating other switches just consumes time.
