Okay so wanted to mention a few things.
-I'm trying to upload a video every single month, I know this stretches it but a lot has been going on.
-I know this doesn't fit perfectly with the story Destiny is currently following, just a fun interpretation for how things are going. (We'll see next week)
-lmk if yall enjoy this style more, I went easy with it but I'll do more with it as I work on the next video
-When I say "Shadowkeep is horrible" or that curse of Osiris is better than shadowkeep, I'm speaking strictly about the campaign. I thought that only mentioning the campaign and nothing else would've made that clear
-As always thank you all for sticking around, it means a lot to me!

    • @perrycarters3113

In theory, it's a great start to D2 Y3: It begins with us finding ONE Pyramid, and it ends with Arrivals, when ALL the Pyramids roll up on various other planets.
The problem is it ended with a vague sense of "Oh boy, spookyyyyyy" instead of anything meaningful. We got a creepy conversation with a mimic of our Guardian wearing the absolutely TERRIBLE-looking Dreambane armor, and then nothing.
My suggestion would have been to have the plot of Shadowkeep be how the Hive are attempting to use a ritual to wake up the Pyramid early. Give us a singular, tangible villain to combat in the campaign like Hashladun, and just have Zolmak be the Strike boss instead and introduce an unnamed Hive Ogre boss for the Dungeon or something.
Have the campaign be about us trying to break Hashladun's control over the Nightmares because she is trying to wake up the Pyramid to use its power to project the Nightmares all the way down to Earth, as well as using the Nightmares to enforce a cycle of tithing within the Hidden Swarm, strengthening them. That gives us a tangible threat to need to overcome sooner rather than later. Plus, Hashladun makes an excellent foil to Eris, as she seeks vengeance for the deaths of the Hive royal family the same way Eris sought vengeance for her fireteam.
Have Hashladun constantly contact and taunt us by summoning Nightmares right on top of us while we're doing our missions to try to weaken Hashladun's control over the Nightmares. Make it a regular thing for us to kill a Nightmare, only for it to just get summoned right back. This makes the Nightmares feel relentless. Hashladun can even comment something like "Now you know how it feels to kill something that simply stands back up again, no matter how much stronger you are than them".
Final fight is us fighting Hashladun in the Pyramid after she followed us in and she starts summoning Ghaul, Crota and Fikrul to fight us in between phases of fighting her as well, and it ends with the Pyramid's own power killing her for trying to prevent us from communing. This further sets up Season of Arrivals and foreshadows Savathun's own attempts to stop us from communing with the Pyramids.

There are literally 3 actual story missions in this expansion. The rest are complete and utter filler. I will give you an explanation for the scarlet keep though. It was constructed well after D1 which is why its not there in D1. It was created by savathun to lure us to the moon to kill the remaining hive of Oryx's lineage. If you wanted that to be explained in the main story then you would be sorely mistaken.

I believe people mentioned it in other comments but basically Savathun manipulated the daughters of crota to make the scarlet keep to lure the guardians and the daughters and other hive wizards were trying to make their own champion but use hive sorcery to change bodies/ souls honestly would have been way better than what we actually did in the campaign instead of reading it through the lore .
      - Also agree with you about the hive could have made it to where the red parts of their body were some kind of armor to combat the guardians and the spikes do extra damage or apply a damage over time effect. Would have preferred that we can explore the scarlet keep more and discover hive secrets come on bungie you really made a hive castle with nothing to show for it besides a strike and underground dungeon

I still love how Everyone points at Lightfall as being the Worst Expansion ever. Sure, the Campaign didn't answer any questions Immedietly, but did it have:
    -A Re-Skinned Destination and Bosses?
    -Underpowered Weapons?
-A Raid Critically Panned as the Worst in D2 either due to still Buggy Mechanics or Monotinous Exotic Quest?
-A Dungeon with no Exclusive Loot?

The thing with Lightfall was that it was too broad and didn't give depth. Shadowkeep however is just "oh there's Nightmares cause the Pyramid is giving you them" and that's it. Cool. Some corrections on the story
    1. Rasputin never tried to stop The Traveler from leaving. The Traveler, during the collapse, chose to stay with humanity, and during Season of the Seraph, The Traveler rose up into space to get out of the way The Last City so it wouldn't be collateral
    2. The Hive were always meant to get The Light. Savathun played a gamble where she completely offered her life to The Traveler, risking it all by sending away The Veil during the collapse so the Witness couldn't use it then, thereby saving The Traveler and the existence. This act of Bravery, Devotion, and Self Sacrifice still ultimately led to her Death. And so she and the Hive were given the Light by the Traveler.
    3. Yes Stasis was used to lure us to the Dark. However, there's a difference here with us. Elise Bray, or the Exo Stranger from D1, is stuck in a time loop, and in her time loop the Traveler leaves during Season of the Seraph (whereas in game it stayed), this was the inflection point for the "second collapse". In all of her time loops someone else got Stasis first, and everyone became corrupted and turned against each other. No Human/Cabal/ Eliskni alliance. Every time it usually ends the same with the a final battle over the Traveler ending with a burst of Light and her restarting from when Cayde-6 first becomes Hunter Vanguard and only bits and pieces of memory from the last loop. But in our timeline she ends up finding that fish that follows her around (called a Pouka), and through some Darkness stuff related to the Veil, it is able to pull memories out from her mind, allowing her to get an advantage and acquire Stasis first, and teaching us how to master it without being corrupted (as she had did before but not first like this time)
    4. The Traveler was not working with Savathun here, even at this point the Traveler is doing it's thing which is absolutely nothing. It wasn't disappointed in the Last City for fighting it. By this point there had been the creation of the Last City Alliance (Human/Cabal/Eliksni/Awoken), Savathun was going to ruin that all-by herself. The Traveler is not so selfish as to go with Savathun's plan just to save itself and abandon Humanity.
    5. The Witness won in Lightfall simply because we got outplayed. The Witness was far too powerful for us to even have thought about trying to oppose it at this point. Between Calus and our Ghost, so long as the Witness could make that link to the Veil it would win. The Witness tricked Calus as well, telling him to go and destroy the Veil. This was a trick to get the Guardian, and our Ghost, as close as possible to the Veil, and in doing so once we defeated Calus and had our guard down, The Witness would take control of our Ghost and make the link. Winning. We got outplayed in Lightfall.

I believe that there was a lore page which includes a brother knight and sister wizard. Now I may be misremembering this a bit, but the hive on the moon were experimenting with singing and forced the sister to sing until her voice was lost, and then sing even further until her soul was untethered from her body. The sisters soul was then placed into the brothers body but she quickly died. On the other side of the coin however, the brother survived the process of his soul being placed into his sisters body. He was furious for the wizards killing his sister, but knew not how to cast spells. And so he instead picked up two blades and began a slaughter against the wizards who did this to him in a blood frenzy for vengeance.
This would have been the perfect chance to just make one or two new enemies. It explains that the hive have been experimenting and trying to create new forces to fight back and recover. AND right in this text it shows a product of such. They could have made a new wizard type named a Bladesinger who wields two blades and uses the knights style of ai but with the speed of a wizard so it closes the distance much quicker. Plus, it uses two blades so it hits twice as hard but at the cost of defense and hp.

What you say at around 2:00 minutes about “where did this red castle come from” is explained in the dialogue.
The earlier line about seismic disturbances being detected isn’t just a fancy way of saying stuff it happening. It is specifically telling you that the surface of the moon is experiencing seismic activity and that things are shifting.
Then in the subsequent shot we see a massive protruding structure sticking out of the cracked surface.
This just means that they detected the seismic activity and that activity was caused by the red fortress emerging out of the ground.
Yes it could have been set at a different location, but I think reusing old content was done so that they could get the most bang out of their buck

I already knew about the witness so it worked a bit better for me but I can’t imagine some random player wanting to continue after this.

shadowkeep is the one expansion that consistently gets worse every year. when it came out it was mid, but as time goes by and more things get added, the experience of shadowkeep and its content goes from mid to straight ass

This dlc was literally just a massive reskin they sold back to us. The story was non existent. Nightmares don’t make any fucking sense, it’s just an excuse to reuse old assets. I also love how they knew the campaign was dogshit so they just threw a pyramid in there to keep our attention even tho it just sat there and didn’t do shit for 4 years. Also this is before they had retconned the darkness into the witness so they just tiptoed around it and gave us an empty ship because why not. You’d think a ship of an ancient evil would contain an ancient evil but nah. Also as much as it’s cool that we’re finally getting a new enemy race, they aren’t really the darkness, just enemies created by the witness by being in the traveler. So yeah the witness just has a fleet of empty ships. That’s lame asf to me. Still think they fucked up by not making the darkness a creepy shadow race. Everything about the old darkness was more threatening than whatever the witness is supposed to be. There’s concept art of the darkness world and it looks so sick, it’s all dark and green. I always wanted to go to a darkness world but instead we’re going into the traveler which is just a bunch of reskinned D1 areas with creepy hands for some reason. I’ve always wanted to go in the traveler but tell me why the inside is just our imagination of the D1 tower? Whatever bullshit lore reason there is, the real reason is that Bungie loves reusing assets.

    • @WistfulSum
      @WistfulSum 3 месяца назад +2

The reason the tower is found inside the traveler is the same reason the dread are there. The Traveler pulls memories by those who traverse it and manifest them into being by the light. It's why the dread should only exist in the pale heart. Also the nightmares are just shadows cast over us with negative memories the lunar pyramid torments us with.

This is Destiny (2) in a nutshell.
Reskins that they sell back to you, and paying for an opportunity to engage with guns and content you've played 70% of before.
The story is predictable to anyone familiar with RPGs (or Science fiction / Fantasy in general) and is not well told after the fact and is only passably told at the time. It also suffers with time-gating at the time, so it would 'force' players to log on every week - presumably so they can keep pedaling the wares in the in-game store.
Vast amounts of content sits there with irrelevancy, and although this sounds like it'd be an argument for 'removing it' - though why any Gamer would willingly say "Please take away this game I paid full price for" - but it's rather an argument for the fact they'll (re)use something once and then do absolutely *nothing* with it. Any time they do use it again, it is 90-100% the same as previous (See a 'Season of the Wish' Quest step making you replay a Forsaken Mission verbatim - this, hilariously, was also AFTER they removed Forsaken.
This is their outlook with 70% of the guns, and with probably 70% of the world.
It's one thing to reuse assets as a good development time-save.
It's another thing entirely to remove the old assets, and then reissue them more or less as they were (or in some cases, worse).
Better go out and grind that gun you previously owned because reasons.
And now I'll address "Oh but they've undone sunsetting, they don't remove content any more, and they just let you reuse the sunset guns just this year of The Final Shape, in 2024, some 4 years after Sunsetting originally occurred..."
Oh yes. How wonderful, i'm certain that they deserve praise for taking 4 years to rectify a horrendous anti-consumer practice 4 years prior - and still reintroduce barely any of it (as if that would somehow undo the problem).
Tell me, start the story now.
Then tell me all about the Red War.
Then tell me all about Forsaken.
Then tell me about all of the Seasonal build up each year.
      Oh wait. You can't.
They still have around 60% of the content they have ever made, sitting unused, and unplayable regardless of whether you paid for it, or not.
It won't even give you the option for you to play it - regardless of how shit individual campaigns may or may not have been.
I still own Superman 64, and as shit as that was, I can still go back and play it.
"Oh but that's not a live service game"
Perhaps you'd be better off looking at you being ok with the idea of a company straight up removing things you paid for if you're going to excuse it the second they deliver something remotely 'passable' using the same tired dreck anyone could see coming from a mile off.
Is the game tanking? Better reintroduce [Redacted], only to [Redacted] at the end of the Campaign again anyway - rendering his reintroduction 'fan-service' and nothing more.
Is the story good? This uber-powerful villain we introduced, yeah you fight him and kill him within the Raid, and then in Campaign, all in the space of an IRL week.
What did the uber-powerful villain achieve? Essentially nothing. Nothing of any significance or any merit. After having 'supposedly' been built up for 4 years - starting with Shadowkeep.
Not that you'd notice of course, because, as pointed out, Shadowkeep was a godawful time waste.
They keep fucking up because they, very clearly, had a lack of foresight and planning.
This is very apparent when you consider the release cycle being a continuous cycle of Big Highs (Taken King, Forsaken, Witchqueen, The Final Shape) and Bigger lows (Curse of Osiris, Red War, Shadowkeep, Beyond light, Lightfall).
They weren't even intending Lightfall and The Final Shape to be split until they considered "It wasn't possible to give the story justice" (or words to this effect) and so needed to split them up, you only need to look at Destiny 2 Vidocs prior to Beyond light to see:
Beyond Light -> Witchqueen -> Lightfall
There is no mention of 'The Final Shape' because that was to be included as part of the over-arching story of lightfall.
This lack of foresight and planning affects everything they put out, from the Story (which doesn't make a lick of sense to anyone that hasn't been following it for the better part of 4+ years), to their ability to constantly use the 'Destiny2ContentVault TM' to just straight up put their own work into limbo, so they can repurpose and repackage it later, all for the low low premium of $50 for the base expansion and $50 for the annual pass (or more expensive if you want to purchase the seasons/episodes with the premium currency).
It is an exceptionally predatory company - more so than many others, and that's saying something, because competition for cunt of year in video game studios is really contested by AAA studios.
It'll give you the most bare bones content imaginable, but because it is a large amount of 'fan service' it is completely excused despite the fact they expect you to pay that aforementioned premium each year, to realistically get maybe 30 hours of new content before staring down the same strike you played 5 years ago - if it's even still in the game that is.
      www.destinypedia.com/Destiny_Content_Vault
^ Go on, have a look.
Paying for a Digital Game reliant on Servers is one level of idiocy, but a payment most players make due to it being 'accepted industry practice'.
Paying for a 'Season Pass' inside the above game is a second level of idiocy, but some players accept it because 'it's not really F2P'.
Paying for additional content (Dungeons) inside the above game, seperate to the season pass (unless you buy the deluxe premium edition prior to game release) is a third layer of idiocy, but the players accept it because they've already gone past the first two layers of idiot, so there is no distinguishment further required, but you really should expect this content to be included within the main game price because, it fucking exists in the damn code and gets gated behind an additional payment.
Paying for optional cosmetic content, for 1/6th to 1/3rd of the price of the entire expansion, is unquestionably however the biggest level of idiot you could possibly be, and there are a hell of a lot of them.
There is no benefit of the doubt to give them, they already fucked you once. Promising 'not to fuck you again' is not a praise worthy move, you abject morons.
The only remotely passable thing in Destiny, is that the gunplay, due to Hybrid P2P and ludicrously high aim assist levels by contrast, make it a very fluid gun-play experience.
Everything else is not remotely worth paying the asking price for, not by a long shot.

Shame we only got one mission using tanks out of the 3 missions given next to running around patrol (those quests for the armour seem to have been made easier, requiring around 2 lost sector completions rather than an hour of completions mixed with patrols and events) and the Nightmare Hunts. Only benefit that comes is my Hunter friend being able to make an assassin look with Assassin's Cowl. Black shader included as expected.

People panning lightfall definitely forgot about shadowkeep. Shadowkeep was dogshit as we all know but the season weren’t better. Undying and worthy were some of the worst season to come out of this game. Dawn was mid and arrivals was the only good part of the entire year. At least lightfall had half decent seasonal content. As a result I quit destiny and missed the entire year of beyond light (which I regret as I’ve heard many of those seasons were great).

Shadowkeep was Bungies first content as the only developer after the split with Activision. Vicarious Visions (that is absorbed into Blizzars today) did most of Forsaken etc. so you notice it’s A LOT of reused content and forced planetary bounty patrol between every mission to fill it out, just like seasonal content today.

Remove it from the game, make the split beginning/end cutscene the start of Final Shape and you lose literally nothing story-wise except the absence of the silver surfer during the final mission. At least Shadowkeep had buildup to what was to come. I'm amazed Lightfall had even less. At least it introduced strand (why wasn't this in witchqueen?) and tormentors.

Nothing will ever beat Lightfall in terms of absolute suckage in my eyes.
Shadowkeep wasn't great, but it didn't disappoint me. It was what it was and it was still an excuse to get on and play with friends. Lightfall, on the other hand, was the second to last chapter of Light/Dark saga, and had been hyped up immensely with Rasputin's sacrifice, the Traveler leaving the Last City, and the reveal of a new paracausal power linked directly to the Traveler: The Veil. What was this new power? What could it help explain about the Traveler? Huge reveals seemed to be looming on the horizon!
    ...and then...nothing.
We went to Neptune, found Strand, listened to Calus and the Witness argue, and looked at the Veil for about...five minutes? Then, despite beating Calus, we just lose because our Ghost flies away (and no one even attempts to stop it, despite EVERYONE present having the capability to resolve the issue with ease), and the Witness cuts a portal in the Traveler and disappears.
What was the Veil? Why did the Witness want it? What does it do? What is Strand? Why does it exist? Why was the Witness seemingly helping us by showing us things through our Ghost? Where did the Witness disappear to? Is the Traveler dead? If so, why can we still use the Light? If not...why can we still use the Light? You're telling me Ghaul could suppress the Light with a fancy tech cage, but the Witness can't? Why can't we go through the portal? We jump through weird portals all the time, why is this one different?
Shadowkeep was boring. It didn't have a lot and what little it did have was mediocre. But Lightfall was hyped up. The Witness, our greatest enemy, was here. Trailers showed the Traveler firing a big beam. It seemed a HUGE fight was going to happen. But it didn't. I've seen comments on this video that Shadowkeep was just a weekly mission, and that's fair. Lightfall was...Strand (and boring seasons with such slow story telling that it was infuriating). That's it. Strand and a story so unbelievably bad it tanked the playerbase, got developers laid off later in the year, and had Sony threatening to take over completely because of failing numbers. Even big names in the Destiny community, like BYF, voiced their considerable loss of faith in Bungie.
Shadowkeep was a flop; Lightfall was a disaster.

      What?
I was in cope mode. I thought I missed something, maybe a cutscene explaining this ending bugged out and I missed it, maybe I just didn't get it and missed something. But nah, it was just terrible.
I've since recorded all the footage for when I make my lightfall video, and that was hard to get through. I stopped playing on legendary because I just wasn't enjoying it anymore and it was hindering the recording. I don't know how long a Lightfall video will be, but I know for sure it's going to be on the longer side of my critiques

Still think Lightfall is objectively the worst DLC, even worse than Shadowkeep. Shadowkeep reworked the whole mod armor system (that we still use today). It introduced the Artifact system (that we still use today). Added finishers and the Finisher mods (that we still use today). It introduced champions which the game desperately needed back then (and we still have them today). Shadowkeep was the last DLC to launch with a Dungeon included. Shadowkeep was the last DLC to launch with new PvP maps included (yes really). It introduced the Seasonal model that was used for the following 5 years (and you could get everything on the pass for free back then). It had a raid that didn't take 2 hours to beat (unlike Lightfall). And it had objectively the best Raid exotic for Endgame content ever (Divinity was a REQUIREMENT for all raid races for the next 2 years before it was nerfed. No other exotic retained that level of high status for that long). The biggest downside of Shadowkeep is the story but unlike Lightfall, Shadowkeeps story wasn't at a crucial narrative part in the franchise. It wasn't a good story at all, but Lightfall was supposed to be the "infinity war" equivalent for the overall narrative, and took place in the Third Act of the Franchises narrative...and it was a complete disaster. More people complained about Lightfalls story then any other release besides maybe D1 Vanilla's narrative. The biggest critique being that it was nonsensical and most players had no idea what was going on at any given time (or what the Veil was). No one cared about Rohan or Nimbus, many found them to be annoying. All of this is well documented on Steams reviews for Lightfall, which is the lowest of any Destiny DLC release. Most of Shadowkeeps negative reviews are from years after it's release (due to Bungie's awful pricing of old content).
Shadowkeep had a TON of long lasting benefits. The only real long lasting benefit Lightfall has is Strand and Conditional Finality. Shadowkeep was also made with a fraction of the budget LF was, and Bungie publicly stated before Shadowkeeps release that the Activision split forced them to make Shadowkeep smaller than they would have liked. LF didn't have this limitation (WQ made more money than any Destiny DLC ever, even under Activision as per the GDC presentation). We still benefit from Shadowkeep even now, not so much form Lightfall. Too bad no one will read all this.

Well hey, I took the time to read all of this, and I appreciate you taking the time to write this under my video. These kind of comments are genuinely my favorite. From that perspective I agree shadowkeep is better, but as a standalone package today with the content provided with the purchase, I would rather get lightfall since I find the raid more enjoyable (not by much), it comes with strand, and the campaign is bad, but at least it doesn't make me bored to death like shadowkeep does. Keep in mind I don't like lightfall, my review of lightfall is going to be mean and unforgiving, but I would still rather replay lightfall over shadowkeep. Once again, I appreciate the comment!

I’d say “At least let us fight Uldren” if they weren’t such fucking cowards about enemy variety they treat the slightest bit of variety in over a decade as a technical triumph.

I have a quicl question about the pyramind at 3:19 , it's supposed to be associated with the final shape witness dude right? If so, it seems pretty cool that they had the pyramid thing back then but what does that actually mean that the pyramids keep appearing everywhere in this DLC, in beyond light and witch queen
edit: I watched the full video and u talk about it

It’s Nezarec’s personal pyramid ship. I’m pretty sure the other ones are under the Witness’ command and act as extensions of its will, except for the one in Witch Queen which is Rhulk’s pyramid ship.

@@provaricus627 i see. it's pretty cool they started this so long ago but maybe they took too long to handle this. that shadowkeep ending is way too vague for something that will pay off in 4 years time. Bungie thinks this is kingdom hearts

while I think now this expansion has aged horribly and wasn't good as it was, it brought a lot of features with it that made the game a lot more interesting. (those features have been iterated on a lot since, mostly armor 2.0). I think largely the reason I don't despise this expansion as much as I might hate lightfall is because the way it was marketed they made it clear that this would be a pretty large retread of old ground with some poor and unengaging mechanics. I find it kind of easier to excuse this expansions large shortcomings because of the way it was marketed and with the recent split from Activision meaning a lot of development resources they had back then were now gone.
With that said, they absolutely should not be charging anything for this dumpster fire of an expansion and I'd argue the raid and dungeon really arent worth the money either.

Yeah shadowkeep was definitely bad, but I do understand why it was bad. This was during the transition from Activision partnership to bungie solo publishing. In forsaken bungie had the help of several other studios which enabled them to pump out content like three raids, menagerie, forges, etc. Shadowkeep was first expansion where it was literally just bungie and they were migrating the game to steam and f2p. The raid was pretty cool though and definitely one of the more unique raids in the game.

if i am being honest shadowkeep is like a bridge to introduce darkness power like stasis
its like ligthfall ,curse of osiris and warmind but better
below other expansion like beyond light, red war , witch queen and forsaken
its not bad but not good either
it serve as middle barrier between good and bad

I started this game just before beyond light and ran through the campaigns and legitimately couldn't tell that shadow keep was a campaign I just thought it was a story mission peppered in as I unlocked the moon. I've run it twice since and I still couldn't tell you wtf happens.
