Notice, at the end, during Padme's funeral, she was made to look like she was still with child, and that the baby had died with her. And I said baby singular, because nobody except those in the delivery room knew it was twins. This made it infinitely easier to keep Leah from being discovered.

He has managed to 'create' a war so to be given emergency power, which he used to to re-organise the Republic into the Galactic Empire and putting himself emperor. Once that was done, he eliminated the separatists and then had total control of everything, with NO opposition. A wise devil...

Note the fact that while Anakin, after Darth Vader had been slaughtering the Jedi and youglings, he was still shedding tears. Really shows the conflict that was within him. He knew this was wrong, but he was willing to do anything to save Padme.
In the end, Padme still died and cries out "Nooooo" when he knows it was all for nothing. He threw it all away because his "friend" Palpatine had lied and manipulated him all this time.
He will realized it again once he learns his children survived.
Vader's ultimate goal, in the years that followed Padme's death, was to take his revenge and kill the Emperor and take over. When he found out a child of his, Luke, survived Padme's death. His goal seemed that much more reachable, thus his offer to Luke, in the Empire Strikes Back, was genuine.
Even while Vader fought his son a second time in Return of the Jedi, he was holding back. He didn't want to kill Luke. Only get him to turn to the Dark Side and become his apprentice.
I could ramble on endlessly but between Ed Dunn and I, we might be TMI.

@@jenmurrayxo Go further and think about it this way. The title Return of the Jedi was not referring to Luke, but to Anakin. in my mind, Anakin's real redemption began when Luke rejected his offer in Empire Strikes Back. Anakin wanted more then anything the love of his son, so Luke's rejection hit him in the core, and let the self doubt start creeping in. The look they show on Vader watching Luke fall becomes one of the most poignant moments in the whole saga and adds even more weight to that scene. The entire Star Wars sage hinges on that moment of rejection. At least, that's how I see it.

The struggle of Anakin is the struggle in all of us. Good vs Evil, Hatred vs love, we all decide what comes first, but the struggle becomes easier depending on what kind of company we keep, for good or ill. Anakin's struggle was more intense because he had both very good friends and a very very bad friend. What tipped the scale for him was Fear. It was certainly his path to the Dark Side.

Like a lot of people I didn't feel the prequels captured the fun and "magic" of the original trilogy.
But how can a downward spiral story be fun and magical? The story is of a dark and more serious tone.
So, now I have to admit they have grown on me over the years.

    • @mikestevens917
      @mikestevens917 2 года назад +9

The trilogies told opposite stories. One an up beat, good over evil story with a happy ending. The other is a sad and traumatic story that inevitably has a tragic ending. But I think the overwhelming factor for most people's dislike of the sequels is age. Experiencing the originals as a kid left indelible marks that we carry to this day. The sense of wonderment is just not the same as an adult. It was all brand new then. We had no idea what to expect. Then 1-3 comes along and we now know what Star Wars is. We now forn expectations when it was impossible before. Expectation replaces anticipatoin the bedfellow of expectation is disappointment.

I don't think ANY of them are garbage when I really step back and pay attention as I watch them over and over again they all have great messages and parts to them. Even Episodes 2 and 8 which are my least favorites. I still love certain parts of those as well. I understand people can hate or love what they want. But I never understand why people would give up on such a wonderful franchise over Ewoks or JarJar or Flying Leia. I don't sing every parts praises but I do think the whole thing even the sequels and the shows have a lot of value.

Blurring Anakin's burned body was not something I expected.
But George Lucas did basically tell the make-up team to make it as gruesome as PG-13 would allow and the end-product is damn impressive. I recommend watching some of the bts stuff of making Darth Vader in this movie. Pretty cool to watch.
But yeah, Anakin's fall and Darth Vader's rise is a tragedy and a half.
In the end even if his core goals were still pure, the dark side corrupted him not just physically but mentally, which is why he was so power obsessed on Mustafar.
Padmé dying in large part due to Anakin's actions is just the cherry on top the misery cake.
At that moment, when Vader rises from the operating table (which btw, the operation took some time and no narcotics were used at all), Palpatine and his own deep seeded pain and hatred (especially self hatred) is all he has left at that point, which is why he stays as Palpatine's apprentice and falls completely to the dark side, becoming the dark lord we see in the OT.

Obi Wan and Anakin were very evenly matched Jedi, but Obi Wan had more experience and was better able to control his emotions and maintain a level head. If you noticed, Anakin's eyes turned yellow when he was slaughtering everyone, but weren't yellow when fighting Obi Wan. Anakin wasn't drawing on the Dark Side. He wanted to prove he was the more powerful Jedi without it. Had he used the Dark Side, he most likely would have won. Their are additional cartoons (good ones) that have several seasons to them... There is an anime-style Clone Wars cartoon, and then the one that Dave Filoni was a major part of as well as George Lucas himself. The latter one has an animated movie that introduces it.... They basically take place between Episode II and Episode III. There is also another good cartoon series that is called Rebels that takes place a little before Rogue One and Episode IV. These are several hours of Star Wars, and you will definitely know many of the characters now that you have seen the Prequels and the Original Trilogy. 🙂

Even with real swords hand injuries are common because when two people are fighting it's the furthest out part of the body.

Lightsabers dont have crossguards so the hand is extremely exposed, an easy target

That is one of the reasons I like the Inquisitors lightsabers. That half moon guard is pretty effective. More so if it where made of Beskar. Ezra has a similar design, but went for a more traditional look later on. Then we have Kylo Ren's saber but, it was not the first time something like that existed. That honor belongs to a 2003 comic. Its interesting though, alot of people say that she died of a broken heart and you know its a whole meme and everything in the prequel community, but it might actually be something else. The sith way of keeping someone alive is to leech life from someone and give it to someone else, Palpatine knew it, as he was Plaguis's apprentice (also he broke the rule of 2 because he didn't kill his master in a fight and he keeps replacing his apprentice before they can defeat him, so the sith won't get any stronger anymore), Padme was alive, Anakin was dying though, Palpatine knew that if Anakin lost her, he would have nothing left and only have his loyalty to Sheeve. Why would he tell Anakin that Anakin had killed Padme? He wouldn't tell an empty lie unless he knew.
Also, the clones are the real victims of the clone wars. Seen as disposable soldiers, but are just as emotional and human as everyone else. I can talk about them for hours. But yeah, inhibitor chips.

    Some cool Funfacts:
**When Obi-Wan spoke with Padme in a Deleted [Unfinished] scene, Kenobi said:** “I am not blind, Padmé. Though I have tried to be, for Anakin’s sake. And for yours. Anakin has loved you since the day you met, in that horrible junk shop on Tatooine. He’s never even tried to hide it, though we do not speak of it. We… pretend that I don’t know. And I was happy to, because it made him happy. You made him happy, when nothing else ever truly could.”
General Grievous also was in the Battle of Geonosis [The Battle in Episode 2] he was hidden in Caves so the republic does not find out about him.
In legends Grievous killed 3 Jedi and Almost killed 3 other jedi in his first battle. The Jedi were Sha'a Gi, Ki-Adi Mundu, Shaak Ti, Aayla Secura, Tarr Seirr, K'Kruhk.
Palpatine has Two Lightsabers. He prefers to fight with one except he fights against multiple strong enemies. He lost one of his sabers during his fight with Mace Windu.
In Legends [Probably Canon too] Dooku was supposed to hold back during his fight with Anakin and Kenobi in episode 3 since Palpatine wanted to see if anakin is strong enough and he didn't wanted anakin to lose a second limb.
During Order 66 some jedi were spared and brought to the Emperor. Palpatine gave them a chance to Join him and become Imperial Inquisitors.
The tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise was a part of Palpatines life. Darth Plagueis was Palpatines Master. After he learned everything from him he killed him. That's why he was grinning when he said 'Ironic'
During Episode 1 Darth Plagueis was probably still alive.
If Anakin wouldn't have lost his limbs to Obi-Wan, he would probably kill Palpatine and become the Emperor. Also he would be able to reach his full potential and become the most powerful being in the galaxy.
When Obi-Wan said 'that time on cato neimoidia doesn't count" he meant a mission where Obi-Wan lost his Breathing device that would help him when the seperatists would use Dioxis [Toxine]
Anakin found his breathing device and gave it to Obi-Wan just in time
There are Theories that say that Palpatine transferred Padmes Life Essence into anakin to make him survive. This is how 'Saving others from death' works when he told anakin the tragdey of Darth Plagueis
Ewan McGregor [Obi-Wans Actor] was not able to say the line "killing younglings" without laughing. That's why he covered his mouth while saying it.
Count Dooku was one of the Jedi Orders Best Duelists
Anakin was 22 years old in Episode 3 and 45 years old in Episode 6 that means he was almost Half of his live a jedi and the other half of his live a sith.
Vaders Suit is Vulnerable to Lightnings. Palpatine made it like this so he could defeat vader when he would question his authorities. Also his suit is itchy and hurts him so Vader can use his very Hate in Combat.
Qui Gon Jinn was the one who told Obi-Wan that Anakin is Darth Vader
Anakin also had a Padawan called Ahsoka Tano. You can see her in the Animated Series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", "Star Wars: Rebels" or the Live action Series "Star Wars: The Mandalorian" and 'Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett" she also gets her own series soon.
Anakin said "His fate will be the same as ours" and all of them died on a Death Star.
Mace Windu uses Combat Form called "Vapaad" it is his self made Combat form that consits of Form 7 Juyo. It brings you close to the Dark Side and finds your opponents weakness.
Mace Windu got his Purple lightsaber crystal from natives of a planet after saving their folk.
Yoda and Palpatine are equally Matched.

I was thinking back to your Episode I reaction and that you mentioned how much you became invested in Qui-Gon. Recently one of the big creative minds behind Star Wars pointed out that Qui-Gon was the Jedi Master that Anakin actually needed instead of Obi-Wan. You rightly say that Obi-Wan always does the right thing, but Anakin was dealing with feelings that couldn't be handled by a by-the-book Jedi like Obi-Wan, even if he was one of the best. Qui-Gon on the other hand was a bit of a rogue, didn't always listen to the Council, and went with his instincts more than the rules. Anakin got a loving brother in Obi-Wan, but what he needed was a kind and understanding father like Qui-Gon.
Though since Luke redeems Anakin in the end and officially fulfills the prophecy of bringing balance to the Force, it seems like this outcome was the will of the Force all along anyway :P

Jen, that was a great reaction, as usual. I have watched all the movies in the theaters in the order they were released (starting with the original trilogy). But until recently I never watched any of the TV series. I know you have mentioned watching The Mandalorian, and I have to recommend watching The Clone Wars as well. There are seven full seasons that tell the story of what happened with the army of the clones that was introduced near the end of Episode II and the war that finally was ended in this film.
I always felt like Anakin's turn to Darth Vader happened a bit too quickly and a bit too conveniently, but all that content from The Clone Wars helps to build a more complete picture of all the competing impulses he was facing, and how Palpatine very gradually and slowly and methodically manipulated him to mistrust everyone around him except for Palpatine himself. I'm now off to watch The Bad Batch, which is the first of the intervening titles that fill in the gap between the end of Episode III and the beginning of Rogue One.

Technically Anakin was telling the truth. He did see “the Jedi” (in this case the 4 masters that confronted the chancellor) attempting to assassinate and overthrow the chancellor. When he arrived at the office he saw him unarmed while Mace Windu had his lightsaber and wanted to kill him.
Also, when he says “From my point of view the Jedi are evil”. He has lost all trust and faith in the Jedi all from them never trusting him and treating him like trash. Not helping him with his feelings even though they knew about them and just brushed it aside. Many other things that are shown in the clown wars show.
The important thing is from the point of view. So to anakin the Jedi were evil. Part of it because of the first part above and the other because his mind was in major conflict during the transition from Anakin to Vader and was getting corrupt.
    Quite sad.

When he tells Mace it’s not the Jedi way, he is talking to a Master who is in the council and basically in the top 2 of the Jedi hierarchy. He is hoping that Mace not kill him yes for benefit but also to restore some faith to him in the Jedi teachings and beliefs. I mean, seriously, it sucks to be a Sith, because every emotion you feel somehow ends up translating into some shade of anger or hate. They come to dominate everything you do.
But it also sucks to be a Jedi, because you have to accept all these _restrictions._ You're not allowed to have things like _attachments._ You're not allowed to have things that inspire strong feelings of _any_ kind, because every strong feeling somehow ends up being a path to the _Dark_ Side.
Initially, the Force seems pretty cool. But once you put a little thought into it, it becomes evident that it actually kinda sucks.

Another great reaction & commentary. Your observations and comments are often insightful and/or funny.
Also, I love the casual cosplay outfits.

@6:02 "I feel like you cannot have these movies without R2."
Exactly. The narrator of these stories is R2-D2, and without R2 there would be no stories to tell. Unlike many other droids R2-D2 never had its memory erased which is routine maintenance for droids including C-3PO. It's done because over time drones start developing personality and start to become unpredictable. For various random reasons, including the ability to keep secrets without babbling about them, R2-D2 has avoided that fate and has kept everything in memory.
Each movie is started by the narrator. And when the narrator says "Long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." that's R2-D2 telling you the story of which R2-D2 and C-3PO are the main characters.
It's like in Akira Kurosawa's film The Hidden Fortress where the main characters are two peasants taken up by events to an adventure. The story is told from their POV. Also that movie has a feisty brave princess and two skilled samurai swordsmen as opposites. Watch that movie some day, and you'll see a prototype of Star Wars original trilogy. And that's just beautiful.

Very late to the party with your reactions but loving them. If you read/listen to the novelisation (Matthew Stover is the author), there is more detail such as why Anakin threw a 'tantrum' about not being made a master, and his reason for his childish outburst was not childish, even if it came across like that. And why Obi Wan survived the order 66/cannon fire, even though the clones were on target. It goes a bit more indepth with some events and character behavior.
