Hi all, thanks for watching! What do you think? Are there some smart buttons that I missed? The written version can be found here: www.makeitwork-tech.com/best-smart-buttons-for-home-assistant-ultimate-review/
Have you tried the ikea tradfri 2 button zigbee on/off switch? I have those installed as my main lightswitches in my house, connected to the tradfri hub. When i try to connect them with zigbee2mqtt in home assistant they show up but dont send any status updates...
@@sanderderuiter9240 no I have never tried those because I couldn't find them on Amazon. I've only used ZHA, so I'm not familiar with Z2MQTT. Why are you using the hub? You could just go directly to HA with a ZigBee stick, correct?
You missed the now-discontinued Tradfri on/off switch, which I really like. I also think it would’ve been worth highlighting which buttons do or don’t have a double press feature, since buttons that support double press respond slower to single presses, because they have to wait to see if you are going to keep pressing it.

Dude, all these IKEA Zigbee devices have that 4-clicks thing to link. Mine were all the same, and I wasted 3 hours trying to figure it out! Glad you put that in your video!
Dude, this is the best video out there on this stuff, I can't believe it's not more popular! I think I'm going with the Ikea controller to pair with HA. Gonna order one to try. Thanks!
@@makeitworktech A bunch of people (myself included) are having issues with the batteries draining on Ikea buttons. It would be awesome if someone did a video on the issue if they have any insight. Have not found a solution yet :/
Great video. I have 2 zigbee buttons (one 4 buttons, one 2 buttons) and i didn’t have any problem with pairing them with zigbee2mqtt, but i have only single and double actions on each button. But still i like them.
Just the type of review I needed...."Everything works with Home Assistant" Picking up 4 of the Aqara buttons, nice and cheap, especially with Prime Day. Just switched from the Docker container to the HAOS VM and looking to make a few dumb devices a bit smarter. Two solutions: First is a dumb light I have mounted on my dad and I's headboards. Simple clip on lights that work well, but lose all settings when you disconnect power. Replacing them with Govee LED Strips (M1) and a couple of these Aqara buttons. My dad has dementia, and is sometimes confused even by the relatively simple remote for the light. It has power on/off, light color, and two brightness level buttons. For him, just planning to make it on and off with preset settings. Both of these strips will serve as the most used room light, since, when we moved into this house, the main room light switch got put behind the door when we swapped out sliding doors for hinged doors. Have other plans for smart things involving that lighting, but this is a start. Second is a set of dumb buttons that have a hub that plugs into the wall. The hub is in my office, the two buttons are in the Living Room and my Dad's Bedroom. He currently uses them to get my attention and have been the best and easiest for him. Putting one of the buttons in the same spots, as well as the bathroom. It's a simple "I need assistance in some way". It's not really an emergency button, though it can be used like that, but primarily to get my attention for every day things. I've tried many things for him to use in this way, and these dumb buttons are the only thing he has learned how to use consistently.
I finally switched from the now depreciated Z-Wave integration to Z-Wave JS integration after watching this video. Thankyou for your work on the Blueprint for the Fibaro The Button. When I originally set it up it was a nightmare. I have put off switching as a result of that nightmare, but it was much easier than I thought!
Thanks, glad the Fibaro Blueprint helped! Yeah, Z-Wave JS is a breeze, but there is no option to view the network map. I tried to switch to ZwaveJS2MQTT so that I could, but didn't like it as much.
@@makeitworktech I only have one ZWave device! It's still pretty expensive in Australia as it was released later here. Most of my devices are ZigBee or wifi.
I don't have too many Z-Wave devices either. Zigbee is great, but WiFi can overload your router pretty fast. Most of mine are wifi, but when I got 79 total wifi devices my Nest router was having issues. Zigbee is slowly catching up now followed by Z-Wave. Replacing wifi switches with those
Great Video, Thanks for your detailed review! It only left one question open for me, but I know that testing this is time consuming and not trivial: Which button has the longest battery life and is there an option, which can be powered by rechargeable batteries?
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
Great video. Have you run across any development boards where you could connect your own momentary button? I want something overly obnoxious, similar to "the button", but using my own case and button. Can't find any modules like this.
This video was EXACTLY what I needed! Been googling smart buttons and haven't really found any options... was going to give up. Just ordered the ikea and the aqara ones! Can't wait to try them out 😍
Thanks for the great video. I just got the Smartthings Button (now marketed at the Aeotec Samjin Button). I have to say I am disappointed at the build quality / design, because the button rattles at the slightest touch and it feels cheaply made. For almost $30, I expected better build quality. I wonder if other people have the same issue?
Nice video! I bought the aqara buttons and im glad that i have done that after watching this video. I have another question to you. Do you use zigbee and zwave simultaneously? Where do you use zigbee and what devices and what for zwave? I have many zigbee devices and gonna move in 1 year to my new home. There i will probably implement zwave because its more reliable i think. Can you agree with that? Keep up the good work!
I'm glad this video helped, thanks! As far as the difference between the two, I haven't noticed a huge difference. I do have one Zigbee device that drops out, but I don't have any Zigbee repeaters. Because Z-Wave is a lower frequency it should pass through walls more reliably. I also understand that Z-Wave has better security options. Either way, I've had fewer issues with my Z-Wave devices than Zigbee. Sorry I can't be of more help. I'd recommend this video if you are looking at which to choose: ruclips.net/video/v8-VNIQQiQE/видео.html
Thanks for the great video! I noticed that you didn't mention many unique mounting options on these. How many of these buttons can attach magnetically? I have a handful of Samsung SmartThings buttons and the strong magnet on the back is one of my favorite features. I've got one stuck to the fridge, and a few even stuck to the wall plate screws on light switches.
@@makeitworktech I wasn't aware of the SmartThings buttons being magnetic until I set one down on top of my washing machine and noticed the resistance when picking it up. Definitely was not an advertised feature, but is one of my favorite features. I'm curious how many of the other buttons have magnets. Would you want to test this quick and leave a note in the video description of which ones are (aside from the ones with magnetic mounts that you mentioned in the video)? Thanks!
Hi Aron. Thank you so much for the video. I am into HA for a long time and with my newest project (WLED) I ended up in your youtube channel. I like your way of presenting and getting to the point quickly. I am sorry to let you know that the affiliate links don‘t work for me in germany (or at least I have no clue how, for the Hank Z-Wave Plus Button), so I ordered a „TechniSat z-Wave Plus“ instead.
Thank you for the very useful video. I installed the Sonoff smart button on HASS Yellow using the integrated Zigbee bridge therein. But i cannot create any automations. It is only showing battery status and identify as triggers. Appreciate your advice..
This is a very solid review. Thanks a lot. Have you tested (or are you planning to test) some Bluetooth buttons/remotes as well now that home assistant has drastically improved its BLE integration? It is slightly confusing when you say blueprints are needed to use this buttons as everyone can make their own automations if they want (and I guess most do) either using the built in automation feature in home assistant or using e.g. Node Red.
Thanks! I may do a round 2, and I'll include BT buttons if I do! Yeah, when I did this video I was still learning a lot about HA. Thanks for the feedback!
@@makeitworktech I've been very deep I to home assistant for a couple of years now and am also still learning a lot :-) Looking forward to that video if you decide to make it 😜
You made me laugh at 13:03 , you little... :) Another great video, so much help for building our smart home from scratch. IKEA looks like a good choice.
Hey, I'm just getting into HA and this video was great, Thank you I have a question, do you know why all buttons can't have actions for double, tripple 4x 5x presses? Surely its just code to read sequential single presses right? Maybe that could be a good video topic? Feels like something the HA devs should make if its not already a thing
Thanks! I think it's a little more complicated than sequential presses. The device firmware sends different ZHA events based on the number of presses, button held, etc. I don't think you can change what events are sent unless you can modify the firmware, but I could be wrong.
@@makeitworktech Oh i didn't realse that, I thought it was just sending "button pressed" and the software was doing the counting, If it is sending pressed 1, pressed 2 then what each switch sends when you press it 3 times in a row? maybe back to pressed 1. so HA could in theory do its own event reading and say "button pressed 3 times in x secconds" = tripple press. That however would be something the HA devs would need to implement but if true could really enable lots more options for everyone!
Most of these issues no longer exist with ZHA. Z2M is a bit more complicated l, especially for newer folks. I run both, and only use Z2M if ZHA has issues, which is rare
Interesting! That isn't advertised, at least, not on Amazon! I'll have to try listening for zha_event and shake it to see if HA picks it up! Thanks for the tip
Not every Aqara Switch mini can do that. Aqara has two versions of mini switch, one with Gyroscope and one without it. So, if your product is not advertised as "gyro" it will not have the shake feature.
Can you see if there is any that has a microphone and speaker on the button that works locally? It would be nice as a emergency button and even like a walky-talky type of thing.
I too love the look and feel and features of the Ikea button and I have many of them. But it always takes at least 3 (sometimes up to 7) clicks to wake them up when it has been idle for a while. Has anyone else experienced this and know a fix?
Hi! Loved this 😎 But can you make a "how to" on using aqara mini switch without a hub? I'm new to HA and i would really love to get a tiny button to controll lights.. best regards from the cold north : Norway 😃
I love the IKEA but the 🔋drainage is extreme, longest periode was 8 weeks from 100 to Zero and shotes in 10 days...a no go ... using the sonoff bridge ZigBee with tasmota...
I hadn't really noticed the battery life drainage, but just checked mine now and the battery status is unavailable... gotta check to see if it died. Which is your favorite?
@@makeitworktech yes that's the issue...a great think when it's >=1% batt but the drainage is a no go. I have a conbee 2 what I will test and see if it's getting better. The forum I can't get a single answer if it's the zha or the sonoff bridge with Tasmota (using latest stable version ). Are you using the sonoff as hub for ZigBee?
@@perkleinschmidt6798 I'm using a Nortek ZigBee/Z-Wave stick for my hub. I'll put a new battery in and see how long it goes. I also have a conbee 2 so I could try that on my test HA setup
@@makeitworktech I think I know the reason, the solution not. On my main server I use the sonoff as the brain of the ZigBee with zha. I did setup a 2nd HA with RasPi 4b, dietpi and used here the conbee 2 also over zha and paired a IKEA remote there. Had 100% over a week and whatever reason my RasPi had a bad moment (ext4_fs error) so I had to fix this error. As everything was up and running, started my HA, my IKEA was then in NaN so I pushed one of the button and it was back in system, but then the battery did drop to 47%. I guess my RasPi had this failure in the night between 2 and 10 am and during this time I guess the IKEA did try to connect. I guess his constant trying to come back into the system drain the battery. I don't know this is the real reason but since I had this error with the RasPi and I can also recall same story with my main HA with the sonoff when something in the net or server was not flawless the IKEA remote did drop extremely in those situations... What can be done I'm not sure.
Interesting! I just changed my battery a week ago, and I checked mine now and it was NaN, so I pressed a button and it showed up at 87%. I'm thinking of trying mine with deConz on my test setup. I saw some posts where people said it worked fine for them with deConz
Yeah, you just need a ZigBee coordinator which is a USB stick/dongle. You can get them for super cheap, but I got a little more expensive one that works as a Z-Wave and ZigBee coordinator. Home Assistant is in itself a hub I guess
So which would you use as an emergency button? The fibaro button looked like one the most but idk if it's the most reliable and I obviously want to make sure before I put an actual emergency button in my house.
Fibaro would be easiest to press, but not sure as far as most reliable. The NanoMote Quad is the best to me in terms of reliability, but they don't sell it anymore
I got some Ikea zigbee devices, they do not connect. Must be Zigbee 1.2, not 3.0. wish it would work. I have several items from Ikea and I like how they feel and they use AAA batteries.
Awesome review, as usual! It seems like the Ikea Tradfri remote is no longer available, at least in Canada. It seems like the Styrbar is its replacement in the Ikea ecosystem. Does anyone know if the Styrbar works with Home Assistant (and how well)?
I have a small cab company and we'd like to know if it's possible to put a smart button at hotel reception so that it can place orders when the receptionist presses it? We're going to have a web booker on our website and we'd like to find a solution to make ordering even simpler (for our big customers). For example, the customer presses once, an order is placed. The customer presses 2 times, the last order is cancelled. The customer presses longtems, the webbooker opens on the PC and the customer is connected to his account. Can you tell us if this is possible (with Make or Zapier)? If so, do you know of a smart button with a USB port ?
Back when I made this video the hub was required. Not sure if they worked via Bluetooth at that point, but I didn't have it set up. The review was specifically for ZigBee, Z-Wave, or wifi buttons
What about smart buttons that can replace light switches? I used to use the Lutron Zigbee Connected Bulb Remote with my old Wink hub, and they still work with Home Assistant. However I've found they're a little unreliable in that they seem to drop off the zigbee network or stop responding sometimes. I also have one Hue remote that mounts like a light switch, but MAN that thing chews through batteries! I think I change the batteries in that Hue remote four times a year. And frankly it might not be much more reliable than the Lutron Zigbee. Are there any other options?
I'm fairly new to smart home stuff so I may be way off, but using Zigbee requires something "hublike" doesn't it? If an USB dongle or other box is needed for my home WiFi, isn't that in essence fail the "nohub requirement"?
What I mean is that it is required to buy another box to get started with a Zigbee button. If it's not called "hub" is something my wallet cares nothing about 😁
Haha I see what you're saying, and yes, technically a dongle is a hub, but in my opinion, Home Assistant is the hub, the dongle is really just a radio. The devices in this video don't require any other hub than the obvious, Home Assistant. A basic requirement for HA is the hardware, which includes the computer and any radios (wifi, Z-Wave, ZigBee). My "no-hub" requirement just means you don't need any other hardware than the basics.
@@makeitworktech thanks for a reply, super quick too 😁 I still think that WiFi can be marked as already in tha house, while Zigbee/Z wave hardware isn't in as many houses as WiFi so it'll create an extra cost initially. I'm a nerd so I'll probably implement some Zxxx devices and maybe some BLE stuff on the farm eventually. One dream is to tag our dogs to keep track of they are in their boxes in the house or outside. I'll subscribe and check more of your videos. 👍
Any thoughts on the Philips hue buttons. I just got these and I am having some issues (should have watched this video first like the title says) Maybe a blueprint will save the day for me.
I usually shy away from Hue, but if they work without the bridge that would be cool! I just did a quick look, and it seems like there's only a deConz blueprint on the exchange (no ZHA). If you're using deConz then you should be good. If not, and if you know how, you could write one. I don't have one of those or I'd give it a shot.
@@makeitworktech as another idea. I love the Flic buttons. But can’t stand the Hub. Not sure if you know of a good way to integrate natively into Home Assistant (on a Linux VM)
@@makeitworktech apparently the Hue button now works directly with ZHA without a bridge. According to the Blakadder site. But I'm new to this and still learning, so apologies if I have misunderstood! It would be good if you could review the Hue button sometime to see how it compares with the ones you already tried.
I've been trying to find a button/switch to just power on/off some alexa-enabled outlets (in this case used for lamps that have no light switch). Preferably no hub, adhesive mounting, and using wifi. Would any of these work?
I've never used one, but needing a hub makes them a hard sell for me. And $30 for a button is high IMO. They have the same number of actions as the Aqara, 1x, 2x, and hold.
I would like to know if there is any button that I could program a routine so that when I press this button a personalized message is sent to my Echo Show
Have you tried the ikea tradfri 2 button zigbee on/off switch? I have those installed as my main lightswitches in my house, connected to the tradfri hub. When i try to connect them with zigbee2mqtt in home assistant they show up but dont send any status updates...
I have not tried them! I couldn't find them on Amazon when making the video. I have seen other people use them, so it should be possible, but maybe not with zigbee2mqtt? I have no experience with any zigbee integration other than ZHA, wish I could help!
Bro, I've liked and subscribed before 30s. You're doing (talking about) what I was looking for, I can see you can do that well enough out of the bat and you're following a nice standard script (that I can identify over other videos) that you're getting to the point quick enough and yet provide long enough content of you to monetise. HOWEVER. FIX YOU'RE audio. Make it premium sounding. It's as important as anything else. There's something weird with your audio I think. Although I'm almost getting used to it by now as I write it. Still it's worth taking a look at it, I think it has something to do with a little bit of echo.
Hey thanks! You're right about the audio, I just haven't had time to figure it out. I try to remove the echo in post, but then it sounds really weird (maybe weird is better haha). The other obvious option is to add some foam paneling to my walls in my office studio, so maybe I'll give that a shot. I really appreciate the feedback though - it's kind of hard just trying to change things and hoping it sounds better!
Un fairly new to smart home and for now I’m just using Alexa, could I use the zigbees switches for anything Alexa related? I’m using an Echo 4 so I guess it could be pires as it is a zigbee hub, am I correct?
While the Echo can work as a ZigBee hub, this doesn't guarantee compatibility.with these buttons. You'd need to look into whether or not they work with it..alternatively, you could get the corresponding hub for some devices
hey there I purchased the aqara mini switch and the conbee II. I have the conbee up and running with ZHA but can't seem to pair the switch. I go into ZHA and add device and put the switch in pairing mode (hold little microbutton till rapid flashing) and it never finds it. I suspect I missing a step. Any ideas? Thanks.
Make sure you have a USB extender to keep that conbee away from your HA device! If your HA device uses USB 3.0 ports that can interfere with ZigBee comms. With Aqara devices, I find a lot of times you gotta just rapidly press the little button until HA finds it
Is there a button where I can use the LED as a status indicator. If wife pushes Button a inside the office, button 2 outside on the door should turn red(or white on next press) Is there one like this?

Thanks! Yeah they keep going in and out of stock. Have Amazon alert you when they do and you can order one. The Aeotec SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor just came back in stock
I love aqara devices but for some reason these buttons only show their battery level for me. I am connecting it to the hub M2 though, so maybe thats my problem. Id just hate to have to get another hub.
@@makeitworktech it still needs some extra box. When you stated your requirements it wasn't clear that you only meant "no specific by manufacturer". For me, as new to this it was a bit confusing. You also didn't mention that Shelly stuff can work locally without cloud for no extra cost/hardware which should satisfy the "locals"? It seems you don't like Shelly and/or WiFi connected devices. If so, why? I mean, a WiFi network is already in your home if you're interested in creating a smart home, right? I don't want to sound to negative, I'm just curious and want to learn.
Noted, I'll try to make that more clear in the future! I don't have much experience with Shelly, but my experience has been that it's more difficult to add to HA than many of these other devices. I stay away from wifi because they typically require big batteries to handle the constant connection, and also my network is overloaded. I had 80+ devices at one point and my network could feel it. Z-Wave being on a lower frequency is nice. Also, many wifi devices are Tuya based which I try to avoid if I can.
Don't understand why all these manufacturers are switching to rechargeable. It's bad enough to need to change batteries but when you do it's done instantly. Taking the button away from it's "home" to charge it is an unwanted extra burden and makes it unavailable to use when it's charging. So dumb.
OMG, Watching this spurred me back into action to figure out WTF was going on. For some forgotten reason I had my node red state event setup to ignore successive events within 1 millisecond. Turning that off eliminated the problem. Completely 🤯
Do you know what model number it is? They started selling it with a different firmware that doesn't have the 12 functions. Some people get the old firmware, some the new 🤦
Hi. It's Aaron, right? I was enjoying the video until it got to this part: ruclips.net/video/B-AKnFAVzsY/видео.html. I'm completely baffled as to why you would make that sign? What were you trying to communicate?
That's the "ok" hand symbol, part of the "circle game". Growing up in the 90s that was something we were always doing - trying to get people to look at the circle. If they did, they'd get a punch on the shoulder 😂. If anyone (I mean anyone) tries to insinuate that I'm using that symbol to communicate a racist message subliminally I will delete the comment in a heartbeat. That kind of discussion in the comments is disgusting and spreads hate and the idea that the use of that hand gesture means more than "ok", which it shouldn't. It's also insulting for someone to say that this video I worked so hard on is just a means of communicating a racist message, which is an absurd idea. Please carry on and enjoy the rest of the video! 😁
@@makeitworktech Most sings and symbols of hate have been hijacked from completely different meanings, including this one.
Great video. I would recommend you try aqara round button. Whole upper surface is button so you just smash it. Love those for individual room lights.
That means a lot, thanks!
I'll have to check that one out 🤓
I already saw another one I want to test too. Maybe a part 2 someday
@BeardedTinker Do you have a reference for that "aqara round button" ?
@@oudoulj it's this part number Xiaomi WXKG01LM - hope it helps.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
It was so bad back then hahaha
Great video. Have you run across any development boards where you could connect your own momentary button? I want something overly obnoxious, similar to "the button", but using my own case and button. Can't find any modules like this.
This video was EXACTLY what I needed! Been googling smart buttons and haven't really found any options... was going to give up. Just ordered the ikea and the aqara ones! Can't wait to try them out 😍
Awesome! It's old, but I'm glad it helps!
@makeitworktech is there newer ones you would recommend above those two?
Does the ikea button only work with ikea light bulbs? I have wyze bulbs and I use Alexa
I have tried anything else, no
Thanks for the great video. I just got the Smartthings Button (now marketed at the Aeotec Samjin Button). I have to say I am disappointed at the build quality / design, because the button rattles at the slightest touch and it feels cheaply made. For almost $30, I expected better build quality. I wonder if other people have the same issue?
Maybe things changed from Samsung to Aeotec?
I'd recommend this video if you are looking at which to choose:
ruclips.net/video/v8-VNIQQiQE/видео.html
Thanks for the great video!
I noticed that you didn't mention many unique mounting options on these. How many of these buttons can attach magnetically? I have a handful of Samsung SmartThings buttons and the strong magnet on the back is one of my favorite features. I've got one stuck to the fridge, and a few even stuck to the wall plate screws on light switches.
They were all very standard mounting! I actually didn't test them all for magnetic mount, but none of them were advertised that way
@@makeitworktech I wasn't aware of the SmartThings buttons being magnetic until I set one down on top of my washing machine and noticed the resistance when picking it up. Definitely was not an advertised feature, but is one of my favorite features. I'm curious how many of the other buttons have magnets. Would you want to test this quick and leave a note in the video description of which ones are (aside from the ones with magnetic mounts that you mentioned in the video)?
Thanks!
Tested and none of them have that capability beside the SmartThings sensor
Thank you! Sorry about that! I'll try to figure out how to fix the links
@@makeitworktech I've been very deep I to home assistant for a couple of years now and am also still learning a lot :-)
Looking forward to that video if you decide to make it 😜
You made me laugh at 13:03 , you little... :)
Another great video, so much help for building our smart home from scratch. IKEA looks like a good choice.
Glad it helped!
Hey, I'm just getting into HA and this video was great, Thank you
I have a question, do you know why all buttons can't have actions for double, tripple 4x 5x presses?
Nearly all of the issues you mentioned can be solved by switching to zigbee2mqtt and no blueprint needed.
Most of these issues no longer exist with ZHA. Z2M is a bit more complicated l, especially for newer folks. I run both, and only use Z2M if ZHA has issues, which is rare
With the Aqara button you can also "shake it" as an action. Single-click, double-click, long click and shake ...
I'm using a nodemcu with esphome and 3 push buttons attracted to it for my lights and other things. Always works instantly.
Sweet! I still have yet to try out ESPHome!
Excellent video. Is there a button you can pair directly to Android without an app, hub, etc?
Thanks! Not that I know of, sorry
Can you see if there is any that has a microphone and speaker on the button that works locally?
It would be nice as a emergency button and even like a walky-talky type of thing.
None sorry
I wish I'd seen this before I bought the Tuya switch. I've been fighting it for weeks.
Sorry to hear that! Yeah Tuya is a pain because they don't follow Zigbee protocol too closely. Apparently the ZHA devs get annoyed with them
Thanks for the great video!!!
Does the Ikea button works directly with amazon echo 4 as a hub?
Thanks!! Not sure, sorry about that, I don't have an echo 4 to test.
Useful ranking!
Have you tested Ikea Tradfri Shortcut Button? Is it Home Assistant compatible via ZHA?
Saludos!
Thanks! I believe it is compatible, but I couldn't get my hands on one so I couldn't test it
You have an update for this one? Matter & thread?
Sorry, I haven't done any research to see what's out there. I'll have to add that to the list since it's been a while!
I too love the look and feel and features of the Ikea button and I have many of them.
But it always takes at least 3 (sometimes up to 7) clicks to wake them up when it has been idle for a while.
Has anyone else experienced this and know a fix?
Hi! Loved this 😎
But can you make a "how to" on using aqara mini switch without a hub? I'm new to HA and i would really love to get a tiny button to controll lights.. best regards from the cold north : Norway 😃
Hmmm, what do you mean, without a hub? Without an Aqara hub, or without a Zigbee coordinator?
Brrrrrrrrrr, stay warm! :-D
@@makeitworktech You said it just works in HA. You're not being clear about anything else needed. You just tell us you need HA and the Aqara Switch...
Don't you need some hardware to communicate to Zigbee from HA? Like a Zigbee hub?
Yeah, you just need a ZigBee coordinator which is a USB stick/dongle. You can get them for super cheap, but I got a little more expensive one that works as a Z-Wave and ZigBee coordinator.
Home Assistant is in itself a hub I guess
Thnx, this was helpful. I am new to smart stuff and this review gave me some useful info on these buttons.
I'm glad it helped! There are lots of options out there!
The 4 button switch works fine with ZigBee2Mqtt, al 12 functions.
The 2nd button (aqara) also has a shake action. I know, because I have like 5 of them.
Hmmm, I'll have to check mine out! Thanks!
Great job Erin you rockstar!
Oh you too Aaron!
Gee, thanks! :-D
I really like that big four button. To bad it sounds so difficult to install.
Yeah it's too bad! It may work better with Zigbee2MQTT... I'm not sure

@@makeitworktech please keep us posted!
I love my Ikea button. It goes through batteries quickly though. Do you find this??
Yeah I notice that too. I may add it to Z2M and see if it's better. It also depends on what brand batteries you get...
I haven't used Make or Zapier, so I'm not sure, sorry
What a fantastic video, you are a star!
Thank you! 😃
@@makeitworktech I’m trying to plan a home automation system for my new home this has been very helpful.
You forgot the Flic buttons. They're awesome and don't require a hub. The hub is optional.
Try the Zooz Z-Wave ZEN34! amzn.to/48jnu9i
Z-Wave switches have been extremely reliable for me
The Ikea Dimmer is a good button also.
I'll check it out! Thanks!
@@makeitworktech thanks for a reply, super quick too 😁
I still think that WiFi can be marked as already in tha house, while Zigbee/Z wave hardware isn't in as many houses as WiFi so it'll create an extra cost initially.

I just got these and I am having some issues (should have watched this video first like the title says)
Maybe a blueprint will save the day for me.

No, all of these require a hub of some kind, and most aren't WiFi
What is your opinion on the flic 2 button? Many influencers say this button is the best. How would you compare it to the aqara? Thanks
I've never used one, but needing a hub makes them a hard sell for me. And $30 for a button is high IMO. They have the same number of actions as the Aqara, 1x, 2x, and hold.
@@makeitworktech Yes they are expensive. I have one more question. Does the aqara button have a find my phone feature available too?

This was amazing thanks!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

Hmmm, I've never connected it via SmartThings, just directly via ZHA. I think that's all that will show up, and you need a blueprint for it to work.
Thanks for the quick reply I will see if a can find one thank you
No problem. If that doesn't work, I'd go directly via ZHA unless you really want to keep it connected with ST hub

They won't show any entities other than that. If they don't show any device triggers when you go to create an automation, you need a blueprint

Zigbee and zwave is a hub with usb or stand-alone
Zigbee and Z-Wave require some sort of coordinator/hub. But none of these buttons require the manufacturers hub, you can just use Home Assistant.

You might want it to still represent the same thing it did in the 90s but it doesn't. From now on, it will always be a poor choice to use it as an OK sign especially in a production that is meant for everybody.
That's extremely callow logic, I'm sorry to say. Each individual has the responsibility to interpret my expressions, and the CONTEXT is extremely important.
