Das Werk produziert seit 1956 den VW Transporter und von 1975 bis 2006 auch den VW LT, außerdem den Multivan. Von 2012 bis 2020 wurde der VW Amarok, neben dem VW-Werk Pacheco, zusätzlich in Hannover produziert. Von besonderer Bedeutung sind auch die Gießerei, in der vorwiegend Zylinderköpfe und Saugrohre hergestellt werden, sowie die Wärmetauscherfertigung.
Das Werksgelände ist etwa 1,1 km² groß
Im März 1950 begann VW, im Werk Wolfsburg den VW Transporter in Serie zu produzieren. Als die Kapazität des Wolfsburger Werkes für die gestiegene Nachfrage nicht mehr ausreichte folgte der Entschluss, die Produktion in ein neu zu bauendes Werk in Hannover auszulagern.
Am 1. März 1955 fand die Grundsteinlegung für das Werk Hannover statt; am 8. März 1956 lief das erste Fahrzeug vom Montageband. Neben der Produktion des Transporter wurden in Hannover auch VW Käfer, VW 181, VW LT, VW-MAN-Lkw sowie wassergekühlte Motoren für andere Werke hergestellt. Von 1989 bis 1995 wurde in Kooperation mit Toyota in Hannover auch der VW Taro montiert.
1970 verkaufte Volkswagen 287.000 Transporter, ein knappes Viertel davon in den USA; die Belegschaft im Werk Hannover zählte zum Jahresende seinen Höhepunkt mit 27.744 Mitarbeitern.
Für die Betriebsabläufe im Werk besonders prägend waren die Modellwechsel des VW-Transporters, so der Wechsel vom T3 zum T4 im Jahr 1990 und vom T4 zum T5 im Jahr 2003. Von März 2009 bis August 2016 wurde neben den VW-Nutzfahrzeugen in Hannover auch die Karosserie des Porsche Panamera gebaut, die im Porsche-Werk Leipzig zum fertigen Wagen komplettiert wurde. Seit 2015 wird in dem Werk auch der T6 produziert.
The Volkswagen plant in Hanover is located in the Hanover-Stöcken district and is the headquarters of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN), a division of Volkswagen AG . In December 2014, around 13,920 people were employed there.

It’s actually kind of sad. They should have definitely been able to automate masking the bus.
Automation is good as long as you have everything set up perfectly and can maintain everything at that point.
Robots can't prep a surface for painting like a human, they have no reaction, they don't see anything and aren't flexible, so unless the surface is exactly the same and the exact same procedure can be performed each time a human will do it best. If the smallest detail changes, undesirable consequences occur. Robots carry on doing the same thing over and over again until they are reprogrammed, when the end result you're receiving isn't good it carries on moving in the same directions at the same speeds over and over again producing crap until we come and fix/change something.

Can you see how passionate the workers are? They are not doing it because robots still aren't able to do it, they do it because they love it. And do it better than robots.

The main reason employers use them? Don't have to pay the robot, or even worse - pay for their benefits. They can work 24/7/365. They are never late, never leave early, no vacations or holidays, and they do not look for an excuse to call off.

This is amazing, these orange robots make the parts and then asemble them into cars with no humans around.
Interesting the subframe there for the rear and front so maybe 4 wheel drive version is soon or its for ID4 ?

Interesting video but cannot understand why VW are fitting drum brakes on the rear in this day and age .
1. Cost
2. EVs rely on dynamic braking (ie, resistance field across the motor) so there's not as much need for friction brake force. Plus, experience with Teslas has taught that the convdntional brakes tend to corrode over time from lack of use; drums resist that corrosion better than discs

This car will be available in Europe this year by the way, here we already EV vans from at least 4 companies, but even here the BUzz is the only one build on dedicated EV platform.
It's just an overpriced transporter van with 2 tone paint job and battery.and will be mega expensive to run as I know someone who did Glasgow to Blackpool return in electric small Peugeot car and was £100,that's half that in a diesel at sky-high current prices.high electric prices here to stay,which is why I have ordered a Citroen Ami,all I need in town

Regen probably is enough. And drums are stronger than disk just not as good for heat dissipation
There is no need for discs, because the electric engine can brake to. Recuperation 😉
Disk brakes rust unless they are used. We had to change the rear disks on one of our cars (non electric) due to rust. Drum brakes are better in cases where the brakes are lightly used, which is typical for electric cars.
As an ID. 3 driver I can tell you that you almost didn't need brakes at all! You get so fast used to the One-pedal driving that is amazing! When you drive normally and look forward you need the real brakes only for the last inches at a stop!

I get it that it's a totally different type of vehicle than the original type 2 van and also in a totally different era, but come on VW you could have made it look a little bit more like the original. This new one i would never buy but they could have had me with just a couple of very small tweaks.

That depends on where you live - here I think they can still sell it, but they have to disclose the ANCAP star rating (and may dissuade purchasers if it doesn't get the full 5-stars).

So toll es aussieht mit diesem 2 Farben Design, aber durch das abkleben mit dem Tesa Band geht sehr viel Zeit verloren und Geld. Klebt es einmal nicht sauber oder löst sich der Kleber vor dem Lackieren, gute Nacht mit dem Teil. Vor allem am Anfang würde ich so was gar nicht anbieten. Viel zu aufwändig und zu teuer und die Kunden müssen noch länger warten. Sollte man nicht vor allem am Anfang etwas prozessoptimiertes auf die Beine stellen? Ich bin kein Spezialist, aber ich sehe da ein grosses Potential 😜
Ich denke das alles was zu sehen ist noch Vorserien Produktion ist, hier in Hannover in der Tagespresse steht Stand Juni 2022 das alles bisher produzierte nur für den VW Eigenbedarf ist. Ich fahre jeden Tag am Werk vorbei und hab den ID Buzz da schon fahren sehen, sehr schnukkelig.

I think it’s tragic that VW is not building these in Puebla, Mexico. By building these vans in Hanover they are by rule excluded from the US $7500 tax credit for EV’s and at $65,000 for a mediocre equipped van, damn few people are going to buy any of these.
I'm waiting for VW's EV sales to be that bad they offer electrification of existing ICE vehicles, even making my Golf an e-Golf would be a start!

Someone at VW needs to rethink product strategy. 2.4 miles/kWhr is really low. until batteries improve should seriously consider a stripped down Buzz or T6 without all the Fahrerueberwachungssytemen. If the Tesla MY (quite big) can get close to 4 miles/kWhr then so should you. especially after forking out $65k.
2.4 miles/kWh is not low for a van. It simply comes down to drag.
@@Simon-dm8zvthe aerodynamics is not quite as big of an issue as they make it out to be...too much pr. the issue is more the electronics and how much power all the peripheral driving aids require. the ID3 and 4 are nowhere near the tesla level. the buzz is built on the id4. today with regen and clever inverter design 3 miles/whr or greater should be reachable.
I've considered an ID Buzz for my next lease but the video of the guy with the *White Power* hat on a German worker pushes me away from VW.

Das Auto für Menschen, die ihr Geld gerne für Blödsinn ausgeben. Guckt Euch doch mal den X-Bus an. Ich war im Entwicklungscenter und habe mir den X-Bus angeschaut. Als Ingenieur kann ich sagen, dass die Verarbeitung besser ist als beim VW. Das Auto ist zwar bei 100kmh abgeregelt (ans. 160kmh). Verbrauch 10-15kWh/100km, kann aber 1000 kg zuladen, bis zu 600 km Reichweite, modular aufgebaut und mit 2 Personen in der Garage umzubauen und kostet ab 18000 Euro. Zus. möglich sind Solarzellen auf dem Dach und zu. 20-50km am Tag.
