love how batou looks away from her when changing. even in cybernetic bodies and being highly trained fighters he is still respectful enough not to look
Has nothing to do with respect. They're kinda beyond shame and other body-related feelings as they are cyborgs. Major could grow a penis if she wanted to. This is a great example of social norms restraining people otherwise free
There are a select few anime that love to tackle philosophical topics like this, but they're few and far between. It's a shame to see how dumbed down anime has become as time passed, and we'll never truly get something like Ghost in the Shell again; not in the same way, at least. This, and SAC's seasons, were some of the best anime, some of the best Sci-Fi really, to ever be created.
Holy shit it makes me feel goosebumps even after like 10th watch. The combination of a strong monolog, Kawai's bells and that deep-deep stare at the end. Man, it was the first time during the movie when I thought: I really no regretting the fact I watched it in my 19s, I wouldn't understand anything earlier"
I like the Japanese version of the BGM for this scene, but this BGM is also wonderful. Every time I see Ghost in the Shell 1995, I have a wonderful discovery.
Petits Pois sounds like my dream girl no emotion so if I die early she probably would be put in jail cause she didn’t show any emotion so that my mom gets my money
@@Sidewinder1996 Oh yeah, it works well with this Makoto. But if the VA stuck around for SAC, then I'm not sure if she would've fit as well; that Makoto was much more expressive.
It might be that the VA wanted to take it that direction since Makoto is full cyborg. However, she lacks that assertive feminine charm that SAC's VA had. Both are good in their own right, but I prefer SAC Makoto dub.
If you think too hard about it, it hurts that Batou swallowed his, "I'm concerned for you". I'm convinced that even at this point, he feels something even more than, "I wouldn't feel right in any situation other than backing you up." Various fanfiction has run with it.
@@dannwan8537 0:27, He's about to explain his concern about her risking drowning, but he stops himself just before she unzips her wetsuit. We can see that he wanted to say, "I care about you". It had to be tearing him up inside that he couldn't say it.
I wonder if that was Project 2501 talking to her when the voice said 'What we see now is a dim image in a mirror then we will see face to face..' Or was it her subconscious?
I think it was meant to be projdct 2501 reaching out to her and the introspective stare maybe meant to indicate 2501 hacking/making contact with her ghost. Just my thinking though 😊
Love the scoring; it adds a nice little touch to the scene, although I might tweak the balancing between vocals and BGM just a tad. This also kinda reminds me, why the hell didn't they redub the voice acting for GiTS 2.0? I mean really, they set out to partially reimagine it, and while I'm more neutral towards it than some, they sure as hell didn't improve anything. In a nutshell, there's just not that much of a reason to watch it, but if they'd gotten the SAC/Arise (like they did for Innocence), or even an alternate crew, at least they could've made it known as the one with the better dub.
You could say that on a cerebral level, he didn't . At 0:27, he wants to tell her how he cares about her, but it's probably because of professional boundaries that he stops himself.
oh wow. I have ordered this version, having only seen one trailer. I saw the one with Scarlett J. and hated it and now I really know why. This version now only has more story to it but of which I want to know more but will wait for the DVD. Scarlett's performance was so deadpan, she played like a mannequin. I have to saw I am not a fan of her to begin with so I did watch the film twice just to make sure it wasn't my dislike of her...dope the movie stunk. Looking forward to my copy of the original
+AkaneRules I always wished Batou and Motoko would hook up. they don't even need to get super soppy and romantic, like just get married and take care of each other sheesh.
From what I have heard Motoko's cybernetic body has functioning genitals (I assume Batou has working genitals too). But she has no ovaries. So she can have sex, but can't naturally have children. However, on the other hand Motoko will never contract an STD either.
Comparing this scene between the anime and the new movie illustrates perfectly how much the movie sucks in comparison. It's like it's not even the same universe.
@@thegrimyeaper It is a pretty bad movie over all, GITS was famous and special for it's philosophical heavy message, the live action version straight up turned it into a typical hollywood sci-fi action movie

He still respects her body, even if she doesn't respect her own.

all humans came from the sea yet the Major was create by Humans, Funny enough she finds most peace completely alone in the ocean.
one of the most classic anime scenes of all time.

I like the eng dub...though the major is very disconnected...I guess it fits given Makotos struggle with her identity and ghost.

Jesus christ, her voice is like the 'how it's made' narrator. Is this even a voice actor, or did they just get a random person to do the dub?
This is a stupid comment

Pretty good job, should've went with the Japanese voices though, it's pretty awkward until stand alone complex.

Is it me? Or did anime just paraphrase Phillip k, who in turn paraphrased Corinthians 1:13?
