This was back when developers could take chances with games. I miss the ps2 era where you really had no idea what a game would be like and was often pleasantly surprised by how good a game was that only you and a few hundred people have played.

I've been saying it for years: This is a legitimately solid PS2 game, even without the benefit of the franchise attached to it. For fans of GitS, it's got a great voice cast and a neat little story, as well. A lot of people are still sleeping on this one, which should keep the prices from becoming too insane... for now, anyway!

10:40 The Buffy the Vampire Slayer game for the Original Xbox is really good at accurately portraying Buffy's canon power level within the game.
Buffy's increased strength and combat ability only put her at a level with her supernatural foes and its one of those combat systems where basically everything you can do to the enemy, they can also do to you - if anyone plays it I definitely recommend playing it on the hard difficulty. It's a really underrated, really really good beat-em-up game with some occasional horrible platforming.

I bought this game because I was really into Ghost on the Shell, and played through it just once, there isn't much about this game to suck you in to replay it.
Looking back, I wish the developers had leaned more into the superhuman moving and fighting aspects of the game rather than the "run & gun a bit of clunky platforming".
The following generation of consoles gave us Mirror's Edge, which would be a terrific point of reference for a Ghost in the Shell game.

What amazes me about this channel is it shows how many retro games we don't know about just hidden away.

I really hope there'll be a next-gen Ghost in the Shell AAA single player game. Maybe a stealth-focused game like Phantom Pain.

Man watching this gameplay back… I played so many hours of this game. Doing every difficulty and getting all the different skins. Forgot about the hacking! The last battle was great too! Flawed but great! Would love to see a remake

I still can't deal with the fact that SAC came out when the PS2 was current gen. I refuse to believe that SAC, a series so far ahead of its time (still to this day) is almost as old as me. Also, I kid you not, if this game was released today in the exact same state (minus the graphics, obviously, those would be improved) it would be widely loved and hailed as a great game.

That was my first game on the ps2 when i bought it, for the time was the best game i've ever played coming from ps1 slim.
It brings me back memories and the best thing about this game is the split screen.

With you enjoying this game I fully recommend Peripeteia on steam. There's a demo out right now and it feels massive. Feels a lot like GitS, from music to aethestics. Its super free in how you play and you really can do absolutely whatever you want with traversal

I had this game and it was really cool. It had its issues with controls sometimes, but it felt like if I was playing through an episode of the anime.

Totally agree, this game is a blast. I just wish Motoko's character model resembled her appearance in the anime more closely and that the story was told better. I notice you didn't even mention the multiplayer which was also pretty good for the time.

Never heard about this game, the platforming mechanics in particular caught my interest. Just curious, what's the control scheme like? You've mentioned that there's a dedicated ledge grab button (something that I personally like) and I'm just trying to picture what jumping and climbing is like.
