Ghost in the Shell is an amazing film, an amazing story. Delving into the very psyche of man, wondering if you are even human as your very person changes around you. It's fascinating, beautiful, and relaxing. Forever one of my all-time favorite films.
I still remember the day when I first saw this masterpiece, the emotions I was filled up with I carry to this day, everytime I listen to this or watch the bay scene, I feel so damn nostalgic, a part of me screams at me reminding me. . . A masterpiece, one for the ages with a soulful instrumental piece. There has never been another GITS like this nor will there ever be, there won't be another movie made in this genre that'll even come close to this one, not in my lifetime unfortunately I believe..
You are special my friend like me. I have shown this movie to other humans and they never understood the concept of the movie and it never resonated with them. 🙏💙
"There has never been another GITS like this nor will there ever be". Love this music (I've always loved deep atmospheric synth chords...) and though I haven't seen this in way over 10 years, I do remember thinking the same. Along with stuff like Akira & Ninja Scroll, GITS1 was a true benchmark of quality. The sequels don't compare, and the series (for me) were 80% ruined by the dreaded "anime cuteness syndrome". All the best stuff seemed to come out in the 80's & 90's. And for me anime was over by 2000 (cuteness syndrome & cgi syndrome).
The people who make/direct anime in the modern world are completely out of touch with the core roots that allowed great pieces like this to exist - it is an industry kept afloat by people who grew up consuming anime, and they seek to create the new by regurgitating the superficial aspects of the medium. For example, when people ask 'how can I make works like Nausicaa by Miyazaki', they seek only to make things look and feel like the media they have consumed that they think evokes that material, go and study at university in illustration and animation, yet the overlook the fact that Miyazaki graduated from university with degrees in political science and economics. As Miyazaki said, many people in the anime industry cant make humans because they cant stand to look at other humans. How can we possibly expect anyone in this day and age to truly say something that speaks to something deeper if their entire lives consist of digital consumption, as it necessitates due to industry pressures?
