So that's why it sounded so familiar! And I thought it was just some traditional Japanese singing :D... But pretty good song tho, for an anime like this.
I will always love this spine-chilling theme, as well as the equally spine-chilling scene this was paired with. Ghost in the Shell (1995) is by far one of my favorite anime films I've ever seen!
Keiichi Okabe was clearly inspired by these sounds for the Nier series. This music tells a lot and its tribal (drum) sound contrasts with the futuristic theme, but it fits so well. It's a must-have music in the manga animation universe.
Ok that's it. I can't hold it anymore. Ghost In The Shell is not just an animated masterpiece, and not only one of the greatest movies on all time, but actually the smartest, deepest and the most philosophical artwork of our era imo.
theres a lot about this song that impresses me. The composition is so minimalistic, besides the choir, the song doesn't have any complex harmonies, the pad that appears halfway through mostly plays the root note, and occasionally plays a dyad, there is nothing harmonically complex going on. Its also a relatively acoustically driven song (though i am absolutely certain the drums are samples rather than recorded live, but if i'm wrong it only adds to my point) the only like sound from it that is distinctly futuristic is the aforementioned pad. There is no use of particularly interesting folly, there is some resonance generated from the pad, but nothing more than that to create textures. Despite all this, the song feels ethereal and futuristic. I'm impressed by the choice of the composer to create something like this, for such a futuristic film, and yet it works so well.
Why would the drums be samples? Of course they’re not samples. This was recorded from live sessions. That’s why the sound has the organic essence to it.

Underrated anime. Music that immediately makes you imagine the ancestral uniting with futurism. Perfect for creating a cyborg. Today, there is a lack of excellent minds like those who produced all this.
This song has be my companion for decades.. and it never ceases to amaze me. Maybe, because it touches something in your deepest inner self and still.. it seems something that the whole world would understand.
I love that “watery/bubbly” drum thing in the right ear. 2:33 and through the whole song is where it is. (Much clearer at 3:13 and 3:36 but if you have a good sound system then you’ll be able to hear it.) Edit, I’ve found out what the specific instruments are called, they are “Udu” (which is a clay pot/vase with two holes in it) and “Talking drum” which is a drum you put under your arm and you squeeze the body of to change the pitch of. Source: Me being a percussionist, (so I know this stuff.)
This is the proof that Anime is much deeper than the most people think. I’m Bulgarian who loves the Bulgarian folk music and I’m always sceptical about different interpretations, but this is gold.
One of the most iconic things I ever heard.... It easily gives a feeling of a rainy day in hong kong and getting lost in thought about existence and the state of the world listening to it... Ghost in the Shell had a profound sense of depth because of music like this... Very chilling, a little cold and beautiful
i have looked for years for another song that gives me this feeling and i have yet to find it. i suspect i never will. which is a shame because this is incredible but at the same time i think Kenji Kawai can pat himself on the back for creating something truly unique, something very few artists can claim.
With all of the stuff related to AI happening right now, it feels really appropriate to come back to this track once again. To be fair it feels like I get reminded of this track for so many different reasons. (Ofc I come back to listen to it every time) This is bit random but, I wish I was cyborg, just imagining my internal organs feels gross.
Something lost, something just beyond reach, this music at once is sad but filled with yearning. The scenes of a dystopian Japan playing out through the rain swept streets. Little yellow umbrellas breaking the grey and drab, that scene describes to me this mix of melancholy and the innocence of the children under them.
There''s a solo singing on an cretits version of this song, and I very much love and need this version. There's even a choire version of the credits songf - two separate versions or parts - intensely needed and mostly lacking... (I think together in one international DVD version. Was a surreal experience to say the least. Laying there cold. Surroundend by loud, whirling hightech machinery and magnets, in a giant computerised coffin of sorts. Almost Wondering if this was, in fact the day that changes everything. If this was the final moments before the beginning of the End. This song has be my companion for decades.. and it never ceases to amaze me. Maybe, because it touches something in your deepest inner self and still.. it seems something that the whole world would understand.
I love that “watery/bubbly” drum thing in the right ear.
2:33 and through the whole song is where it is.
(Much clearer at 3:13 and 3:36 but if you have a good sound system then you’ll be able to hear it.)
Edit, I’ve found out what the specific instruments are called, they are “Udu” (which is a clay pot/vase with two holes in it) and “Talking drum” which is a drum you put under your arm and you squeeze the body of to change the pitch of.

I still remember where I was the first time I watched this movie and heard this
This is the song I think of I think of when I think of Ghost in the Shell. This one right here. ❤
I demand this whole soundtrack be on Spotify right f'n now!!
This is the proof that Anime is much deeper than the most people think. I’m Bulgarian who loves the Bulgarian folk music and I’m always sceptical about different interpretations, but this is gold.
I've been looking at Bulgarian folk music lately. Do you have any recommendations?
Though I can't say the same about the new animes
@@The_Jovian Transformation from Brother Bear Movie.
Anime can be infinitely creative unlike real movies. Many people just see it as stuff for children but it can be anything
@@Magerquark Problem is,it seems like the industry doesn't want to be creative
One of the most iconic things I ever heard.... It easily gives a feeling of a rainy day in hong kong and getting lost in thought about existence and the state of the world listening to it... Ghost in the Shell had a profound sense of depth because of music like this... Very chilling, a little cold and beautiful

Had to come listen this morning. Played in a dream.
i have looked for years for another song that gives me this feeling and i have yet to find it. i suspect i never will. which is a shame because this is incredible but at the same time i think Kenji Kawai can pat himself on the back for creating something truly unique, something very few artists can claim.
Look up Bulgarian chants my friend. "Le mystère des voix bulgares" is a good start.
try the remix of this track by Salem
This is beautiful. I can't stop listening to it.
Same for me.
By far, one of the greatest soundtracks in the history of anime. A masterpiece in my book.
The legendary theme of anime world.
this song has had a profound impact on me.... i am sure i am not alone either.
What a smash hit this tune & the movie it comes from is!
I can't stop hearing the Bulgarian influence in it
+ani147 reminds me of nicholas lens too.
There is nothing specifically bulgarian about seconds and sevenths. Most Eurasian folk music has them.
ani147 It reminds me a ton of Traditional Bulgarian singing, but with a slower pace.

i always think of "kaval sviri" when i hear the beginning of "making of cyborg"
Also great influences of Okinawan traditional chants
2015: Evangelion
2019: Akira
2029: Ghost in the Shell

With all of the stuff related to AI happening right now, it feels really appropriate to come back to this track once again.
To be fair it feels like I get reminded of this track for so many different reasons. (Ofc I come back to listen to it every time)
This is bit random but, I wish I was cyborg, just imagining my internal organs feels gross.
when i work with Chat Gpt i lisen to this in background :)

I highly recommend Ai no Idenshi
pure magic - a piece of art!
Love it, leave a like if you're still listening to it in 2024.
This movie and song helped me find the beauty in sentience and in being alive.
Check out Babylon 5 one moment of perfect beauty.
Something lost, something just beyond reach, this music at once is sad but filled with yearning. The scenes of a dystopian Japan playing out through the rain swept streets. Little yellow umbrellas breaking the grey and drab, that scene describes to me this mix of melancholy and the innocence of the children under them.
I love that this was inspired by Bulgarian music, it’s sounds so cool
Still remember watching for the first time. It started my journey towards awakening from the matrix.
man...this never fails to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up...so good ☺
Kenji Kawai es el Vangelis de oriente.
Yes he is.
Facts
they're both top tier
still god tier after all this time
My all-time favorite anime. Fantastic, overwhelming pictures. In combination with this music ... pure goosebumps!
It's sounds like something futuristic and ancestral at the same time!🔝🙌🏻
There''s a solo singing on an cretits version of this song, and I very much love and need this version. There's even a choire version of the credits songf - two separate versions or parts - intensely needed and mostly lacking... (I think together in one international DVD version. Not a hint of either here!)

Because I had danced, the beautiful lady was enchanted
Because I had danced, the shining moon echoed
Proposing marriage, the god shall descend
The night clears away and the chimera bird will sing

🥺 When the Internet felt so big and untamed. It feels so small now. Consolidated. Incorporated. Soulless.

I played, or rather Though, of this song on an endless loop in my head during and MRI brainscan i had recently while looking for a tumor or anything else non brainy.
Was a surreal experience to say the least. Laying there cold. Surroundend by loud, whirling hightech machinery and magnets, in a giant computerised coffin of sorts. Almost Wondering if this was, in fact the day that changes everything. If this was the final moments before the beginning of the End.
It kinda reminded me of the opening scenes of this movie actually. It was strangely calming.
Almost wanted to fall asleep actually...
That does sound a bit comforting in an odd way
I've had moments like that I my life too. several near-death stares, but certain musical tones like these help put life in perspective during the process.
eheh dunno if you are really serious but if on a mri machine for a brain scan i think you got a real good choice and modd
