2024, just watched it for the first time like two weeks ago and I’ve had this theme stuck in my head ever since. Never experienced a musical theme that expresses the vibe of the show so accurately. Love it. 10/10
I really can't get over the fact that some people find Elfen lied to be "trying too hard to be edgy and violent". It's one of the most atmospheric pieces of art I have ever experienced, I still get haunted by the feels listening to this song. Violence, love, innocence, everything were so beautifully blended.
It is atmospheric and dark, yes. But beyond that, there is not that much of a message behind it all. And you cannot deny that this show received the attention it had because of how far it went in terms of nudity and gore. Today, however, it does not hold up well, especially since the show has not enough substance in regards to story, message or meaning.
@@caiman8401 Disagree. Elfin Lied had alot of interesting stuff going on that viewers simply refuse to engage with because the nudity and gore distracts them. I quite enjoyed the story and themes.

Literally gives me Goosebumps, cuz first time i heard this was at Amy Rose Revenge Part 1 😳 (Theres a scene when Amy gets really mad with Sonic and takes Vectors out of his back, and starts killing Mighty, Ray and Nack)
I literally die inside while listening to this. Makes me remember about how sad Elfen Lied really was. The void I experienced after finishing this anime was so intense combined with the fact that I watched this 8 years ago makes it all the more depressing.
I can’t explain how this makes me feel. It’s such a chilling yet beautiful piece. I feel so sentimental and sad, like I’m losing someone or something I hold dear.
She killed numerous innocent people and killed Kouta's father and sister for almost no reason other than revenge against Kouta for lying... I hated her. She's by her very nature a threat to humankind.
This song is beautiful. I wished that they actually continued the series and followed the rest of the manga. The series was good, but it could have been so much better if they kept to the manga. Still great though, and either way, the soundtrack is amazing.
ALOT, like seriously, a lot of stuff is different. But in ever single way, the anime is a better experience, the music, and the content seems a lot less asspully There is so much bullshit in the manga, there is a reason they left it out, because it wasn't the art they were trying to create. The anime was more like a beautiful symphony, an experience to be had in its own.

I wanted to give her a music box that she'd wanted for a long time with this tune. But we broke up and I didn't have time to do it. I miss you very much and I hope that someday we will be together again. I love you I hope everything is going great for you
Every so often I’ll remember this theme and revisit it and it never disappoints. One of the only themes that will having sitting through some credits just to hear it. I don’t think I’ve ever skipped this theme.
Being a man, I cried my eyes out, this is just a work that managed to awaken exactly those necessary feelings....... I hate humanity, thank you for the moment of nostalgia 🙏
This song is an example of the tragedy & trauma that Lucy went through as an orphan, who became a monster with no feelings for humanity, while not having any love or kindness, from a family who didn’t bother to raise her. The ending one is an example that she did went from being an orphan, who’s been treated like a monster, to get adopted by a family who treated her as one of their own. Which made her realize that not all human beings are bad, as she finds some of them very kind & compassionate. Which doesn’t make her a monster like the actual her from the actual story.
@@lightgamer1694 because what she did to Kohta wasn’t her fault. Those monsters who murder her puppy in cold blood are the main reason all of this happened. What Lucy really needed was the chance to be love & care by those who don’t see her as a monster. She’s not a bad girl. She just had bad luck.
@@lightgamer1694 corse if it helps. What I say about her getting the love & care she deserves from a family who raised her as one of their own. That all came from a fanfic crossover with Transformers G1. It involves her & her puppy being saved by the Autobots, whose war with the Decepticons prevented her from having a grudge against humanity. With her being raised by them for 12 years, with Optimus Prime being a father throws her. While understanding that Megatron is much worse than the brats who try to kill her dog, & the people that one her alive for experiments & reproduction. What’s even cool is that she was given powers from the Matrix of Leadership that makes her a Diclonus with Cybertronian powers. If that wasn’t enough. The Decepticons get their own Lucy to rival the Autobot’s. One who does not care for humans, & was given the power of Dark Energon. Corse all this does prevent Kohta from ending up as an orphan. Nana losing both her arms & legs. Miyu being abused by her mother & that dumbass boyfriend of hers. As well Bando losing his eyes & right arm. Meaning it takes away everything that made Elfen Lied dark & depressing, by becoming more of a sci-fi/action story with romance & drama.
@@lightgamer1694 let me ask you a simple question: lets say we have a child with special power which can be a killing machine if we train her then lets throw her into world where she is tortured to make her a killing machine, and when she is not good enough she is killed brutally (other children see it) then that child, who is "trained" like that each day, without normal human interaction, without simply caring for her (she is a child after all) then she became a young adult and a mass murderer who killed thousands and now is able to kill hundreds just cause they had bad luck to stand in her way of walking through a city who is to blame for that monster actions then? is it fully her to blame? or is it her upbringing to blame?
@@DarkSeresutia let’s just say that it’s the world that’s to blame for Lucy becoming a monster. In worlds like this. Humans can be cruel & selfish to those they don’t understand. Like how special & unique Lucy is, & how gifted she would have turn out. Like a mutant from X-Men.
its been 10 years since i listened to this song. it suddenly appeared in my mind and its amazing how i still can remember the whole song, a true masterpiece.
I was 15 (now 24) when I discovered this anime. It was my first time after years watching anime again and I don’t know how I found out about this anime, but it lowkey kinda traumatized me. It was before my final exams at high school and I regret watching it then because it left such a big impact on me that I was almost afraid I’m gonna fail the exams. Luckily I passed them. However, my dad got diagnosed with cancer during this period as well and this song reminds me of the sad times. This was the most heartbreaking anime of all anime’s I have watched. I hope there will be a remake and more seasons of it in the future.
insane, i was 14 (now 23) and i feel the same way, it definitely left a very lasting impression on me, but this song is so hauntingly beautiful even years later
Years ago when i watched this as a kid (dont ask why a kid watches these stuff) i was at first terrified of everything yet unable to stop watching, i went from one episode to another just completely absorbed in the story until eventually i no longer felt fear but a deep sadness, this is a masterpiece that had me crying my eyes and heart out for hours on end truly a piece of the decades. Sigh what i would give to experience it all again for the first time
I think that seeing a second season would be a risk, but if they were able to pull it off it wouldn't be bad. the thing that makes it a little hard to do is that the ending is different than the manga.
When I was young and had just watched this series, I was also taking a Latin class, and we had an assignment to find Latin words and translate them. My teacher was so impressed that I actually found a song that was sung in Latin and translated the meaning of it. Little did she know it was an anime opening and the closed captions allowed me to gather all the Latin words, and then every other episode it would translate the lyrics in English. lol so I passed with flying colors and impressed my teacher all thanks to my love of the show and the opening. I'm glad that happened to me, as now I can sing along to this song as it lives rent free in my soul.
Just remembered watching this masterpiece of an anime… nearly 19 years since it aired and the opening still is as touching as ever. One of the few anime openings I never skipped over.
I don't think the comments on this video is ever going to stop. This pleases me. This song is so mesmerizing and filled with nostalgia, kinda hurts, kinda feels good.
I showed this to my friend who was high as kite and he told me he saw the Heaven with all its Angels and God and he was just awkwardly standing there looking into nothing XD
The one opening music that can make me feel all the emotion and tragedy in this beautifully tragic lovestory between Lucy and Kouta called Elfen Lied. ❤️😭
Elfen Lied was the best first anime series that I watched and I watched it when I was 7. Let me just tell you, everything was fucking beautiful in the anime. The visuals, the backgrounds etc. I wish they had continued the series! I was so mad at the ending and I even cried for two hours. I want to read the manga version but I can’t find it anywhere in english so hopefully one of these days they make the series in English -🖤
You were 7 years old? wow. I agree with you, Elfen Lied it's a masterpiece, everything it represents it's a work of art. this song, Lilium, makes me feel a glimpse of how it felt when I first watched the anime, I've never have seen another anime like Elfen Lied. I was scrolling on Instagram and happened to find a meme using a photo of the manga, then looked in the comments to find the source. I'd say that this opening was an experience, it was powerful, I got chills all over and it was something different I haven't heard before, not because of it's different language but for an anime to use this song as an opening? I love it
Something I found while watching the anime. Hope you like it: "Kouta... You were a happy dream in a life that's been nothing but a hellish nightmare. Those days that I spent with you, they were the only good days I have ever known. I cherish them. All this time, I've lived in hope of telling you how sorry I am. I fought armies just to have this chance. But now... There's nothing I can say that's good enough. I wanted to forget everything, so nothing could ever come between us. Kouta I'm so sorry, for all the sadness I've caused you. I'm so sorry. I know your life's been hard. You didn't deserve that sadness. I wish I could have done something."

This anime was the best show I’ve ever seen period. It got me so emotional towards the end because I could relate to parts of the backstory. Death in the family, being socially excluded and hated by everyone, and the isolation that follows.
I am just watching monster, for the first time, and for some reason this song popped into my head, this was definetly an anime that still lives in my head.
"Blessed the one who suffers temptation, for after he'd been tested, he will receive the Crown of Life." And "Kyrie Eleison (Lord, pity us/ be gracious to us". Actually this song may fit for use in a funeral.

I really can't get over the fact that some people find Elfen lied to be "trying too hard to be edgy and violent". It's one of the most atmospheric pieces of art I have ever experienced, I still get haunted by the feels listening to this song. Violence, love, innocence, everything were so beautifully blended.
its not even trying hard. Its pretty on the nose and unapologetic about it
People these days don't know the difference between dark and edgy. Too obsessed with being happy go lucky all the time.
Well
Edgy is not what I can call elfen lied but it does have many issues
It is atmospheric and dark, yes. But beyond that, there is not that much of a message behind it all. And you cannot deny that this show received the attention it had because of how far it went in terms of nudity and gore. Today, however, it does not hold up well, especially since the show has not enough substance in regards to story, message or meaning.
@@caiman8401 Disagree. Elfin Lied had alot of interesting stuff going on that viewers simply refuse to engage with because the nudity and gore distracts them. I quite enjoyed the story and themes.
14 years and it still makes one cry

This was the only anime that ever made me cry at the end, and I love it to death to this day
4 years ago, I tried to play this on piano, and my bestfriend had chills. She don't want to hear this again. Well for me it's very soulful..
I am interested in that score (piano). Could you send it to me, please?
this music is a rare example when you have great chills when listening and after its end you simply listen again, and again for an hour long
This anime was sick and twisted, but this was an amazing piece.
I can’t explain how this makes me feel. It’s such a chilling yet beautiful piece. I feel so sentimental and sad, like I’m losing someone or something I hold dear.
I mean....That stuff did happen alot in the anime...Just saying..
This is one of the best and emotional animes ive ever watched. I wish they kept going on with it. We love you Lucy. We all love you.

How did the manga differ from anime?
ALOT, like seriously, a lot of stuff is different. But in ever single way, the anime is a better experience, the music, and the content seems a lot less asspully
There is so much bullshit in the manga, there is a reason they left it out, because it wasn't the art they were trying to create. The anime was more like a beautiful symphony, an experience to be had in its own.
Half of the manga is bullshit, the anime is better and this is one of the best anime of all time for me and its saddest anime for me..
I dont know why they stopped with the anime. It was going so well. Not to mention Lucy was like the devil in girl form
@Pasir Sand well yea shes a strong non human being creature. Shes the devil basically

"You were a happy dream in a life that's been nothing but a hellish nightmare." ~Lucy
I discovered this anime recently and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever watched in my entire life
Same even tho it so old
And now im left fiending for something even just a little similar...
I watched it 11 years ago. And still come back to Lilium. Its just masterpiece
How does a series that has a character kill the family of a another main character and still have us feel bad for her
@@lightgamer1694 because what she did to Kohta wasn’t her fault.
@@lightgamer1694 let me ask you a simple question: lets say we have a child with special power which can be a killing machine if we train her
then lets throw her into world where she is tortured to make her a killing machine, and when she is not good enough she is killed brutally (other children see it)
then that child, who is "trained" like that each day, without normal human interaction, without simply caring for her (she is a child after all) then she became a young adult and a mass murderer who killed thousands and now is able to kill hundreds just cause they had bad luck to stand in her way of walking through a city
who is to blame for that monster actions then?
is it fully her to blame?
or is it her upbringing to blame?
@@DarkSeresutia let’s just say that it’s the world that’s to blame for Lucy becoming a monster. In worlds like this. Humans can be cruel & selfish to those they don’t understand. Like how special & unique Lucy is, & how gifted she would have turn out. Like a mutant from X-Men.

I was scrolling on Instagram and happened to find a meme using a photo of the manga, then looked in the comments to find the source.
