I saw the original anime earlier this year and then watched this video the other day when I wanted to enjoy this epic soundtrack again. Now I've seen the live action one and was totally disappointed by the intro. I didn't knew this was a fancut :(
Ok here is the perspective of someone who didn't see the original until few minutes ago and just knew the 2017 adaption: When I was in the theatre I freaking loved the intro & the music, I think it is an amazing opening by itself BUT seeing the opening of the original few minutes ago kind of made me understand how people are feeling about it. The original score is a tremendous piece of art and conveys this strange religious larger than life feeling, its like witnessing human becoming god through their creation. Now seeing THIS gave me shivers. I can't understand why they didn't go with it. I still love the official 2017 version but this here is simply on another level. I also think that this movie really isn't the worst anime adaptation even though they could have made it something truely special if they dared to, but hollywood played it safe...
The hollywood movie was as a movie ok. The anime was a cornerstone in cyberpunk often mentioned as source of inspiration for dozens of books, comics or movies, the Matrix included. So yeah. I agree with you.
Had they done this, the movie would have gone from a 6/10 to a solid 8/10. It's a decent enough adaptation for what its worth, but the misuse of the classic GITS "chanting" theme was by far my biggest complaint. Why stick that in the end credits? Just... why?
Both sequences are incredible! Nothing beats the original but I found the film version to be quite inspiring and exceptional as well. The artists behind the live action film did such an incredible job. This film only suffered from writing. I wish they had given the writing to someone equally as passionate about this universe. Yet still, thoroughly enjoyed it.

And if it really was her passion project, Scarlett could've been Assistant Director rather than the main character. She was also too short for the part. Officer Motoko Kusanagi/Mira Killan is 5' 6" (1.6764 m) tall.
@@jeremiahthornton7938 Personally i thought Scarlett was great casting and even Mamoru Oshi himself said so! i'm not too big on the original movie which i find overrated as it was stunning but hollow and lacks story or character development and humanity, i find films like Blade Runner 1 and 2, Robocop and Total Recall (1990) to be better films than the original anime movie and for anime movies i'll take Ninja Scroll, Akira, Ghibli, Vampire Hunter D 1 and 2, Fist of the North Star, etc over GITS 1 and 2 and part 1 i thought was ok but not that great but part 2 sucked ass as it was boring, pretentious and hollow. I like the live-action film the best out of the GITS films so far as it has great characterizations, stunning visuals with practical effects and stunt work and i get to know more about the Major and who is this Puppet Master.

I have no idea. I never got to see the actual movie myself, and this was the first time I heard the Robot Lady's voice! I have to admit though, this would hit home for nostalgia if they put the track in this way! :)

I remembered nerding the f out when I heard this theme in the ending credits. They combined the original 1995 films theme with the opening theme to Ghost in the Shell 2 innocence which I thought was really awesome. Honestly I really enjoyed the movie. To hell with the haters.

Probably had to do with expectations. But everything else in the intro felt very respectful of the old, so why replace that very iconic music with that boring low-key, low-pitch stuff. Or it could’ve been the studio. Everything looked like it was right out of the anime. Maybe I’m more lenient with the live action movie is because there isn’t a definitive ghost in the shell. The first movie was darker than the original manga, and all GITS has their own interpretation, what is the live action one but just another interpretation. Personally, speaking on behalf of someone (I) who bought the Bluray disc and the wall poster at the cinema, I would say that from 1:47 to 1:51 there is a level of art that approaches the anime. The other parts on the entire sequence are not enough to compete. It would cost much more to keep the same quality/pace as Oshii's animation.

Something I've never figured out... both _Ghost in the Shell (2017)_ and _Terminator Salvation_ show the title *twice* in the opening credits. (Both of them near the start in plain text... then in a more stylized way at the end.) Why is that? Is it some legal thing?
Something that I did not like in this adaptation was the music for making of a cyborg (like many of us). In the animated movie its music is mostly vocals with ancient (to some) and natural instruments. It offset the very mechanical and cyber-aesthetic of the visuals of a mock birthing scene. I'd describe it as a celebration of a birth. A tribe elated at a new and healthy child. This one though... it just felt too mechanical, as well as generic (it has that baseline of every epic/ trailer for a sci fi setting ever). There are some strings for a more natural sound, and even a few seconds of quiet chanting. It makes it all seem way too generi and artifical for my liking. In a way it's too modern and "western" when it was a Japanese story written and made by Japanese people.

They used it in the END credits. So they still used it, just not where it was supposed to be.
