"I want to live" made me cry. I lost three brothers and Mom to cancer in the last ten years. They all died alone, terrified and in horrific pain. Modern medicine, yeah, sure.
Me too, this makes it seem as if an AI can live outside of the parameters its designed to be in. That they could truly develop human emotion and understand for someone such as us how terrifying and heartbreaking this moment would be. To have the beautiful and wonder of life given to you and then taken away at the first sign of imperfection.
From a filmmaking perspective this is pretty impressive. This all took place in 1 room with only 2 characters (and only 1 of them is on screen). The story was still really good despite the simplicity

@@rottenbutterfly111 I think this is the Kara in the story, correct me if wrong. When you can check the character avatars, it says in Kara's description "Legend says Kara whispered the name to Alice", or something similar to that. It all lines up.
Khamlue No no this model of Kara was found in the dump where Markus ended up, it was obvious because she was singing the exact same song in Japanese as she did in this video. Not really: When Marcus is in the dumpster trying to find pices to fix himself you can find literally this model of Kara with short hair all broken singing the Japanese song distorted, to then deactivate and die. A little Easteregg that breaks your heart.

Everyone was moved when she said: "I am scared" but what made me feel for her is: "I won't think anymore", because she prefers to deny what makes her different from the other androids rather than being destroyed, she is desperate for life, she always was my favourite character: she only wants to live the life she dreams of..
Aye, that is very powerful. To just completely deny something she thought was normal in order to live is heart wrenching (although being alive and normality is a pretty extreme concept to just automatically accept). The first part that got me was when he told her what her name was. She announced her name with a facial expression like, "Wow! I'm alive and I have a NAME!" She was so proud of that! I've always loved this tech demo. Showing off computing capability with a philosophical look at what could be in the very near future. It almost seems like the spark that turned into Ex Machina. Just beautiful!

this game deserves a sequel! i love this game so much, the story of kara is the best. if i was a multimillionaire i would really have Kara imitated such a beautiful and handsome woman and a gentle sweet character. every guy dreams of kara's charakters
sometimes even real humans don't seem like they want to live. if a machine screams "I want to live!" how can you not grant it? That's life, there, real.
seeing her be given life was beautiful... her cries for help were haunting, and the relief i felt when she was put back together... i'm glad she was given new life in the form of a game after this prototype. maybe one day we will meet her?
So I have a theory as to how this video ties into the story of Detroit. First, let's establish the fact that this video was made in pre-preduction so they're are some parts of the story in the video that don't gel with the story of the game. For the sake of the theory, let's say that the Deviant in the video isn't Kara, but Chloe. In the game's story, Chloe is described as the first android to pass a face-to-face Turing Test. And the dialogue in this video suggests that androids are still a relatively new technology. Now let's assume the man speaking is Elijah Kamski. He seems to have a personal, emotional investment in making sure the android works, calling her things like 'baby'. He basically speaks as if the android was his creation. Again, the video was made in pre-production, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that Kamski, or this nameless character who eventually became Kamski, would have had a different voice actor. Listen to how he reacts when Kara/Chloe is showing signs of sentience. He shows shock and horror, but ultimately decides not to dissasemble her because she asked him not to. Because she was scared. He showed empathy. Perhaps the beginning of the Kamski Test? In the end, he is faced with the very real possibilty that one of his machines has become self-aware, sentient, and alive. And he decides to let her go. What if he went a step further? There are many fan-theories about how Kamski essentially engineered the android uprising in the game. From creating the Ra9 code that allows for Deviancy, to giving Markus, a one of a kind prototype model that was specifically designed to go deviant, to an old friend who Kamski knew would try to nurture independent and creative thought, to giving Connor the advice of using his 'Backdoor' to escape CyberLyfe's control, to somehow knowing exactly where Jericho is, despite androids only giving the location to Jericho to those they trust. Point is, there are a lot of theories as to Kamski being the mastermind behind the Deviants and their revolution. But why? I believe this video was the catalyst. I believe that he was moved by this one android begging not to be killed that triggered something in Kamski that made him want to free her. Which in turn, led him to want to free all of the androids. Because he felt empathy towards them. That's why he named the Kamski Test after himself. Because it was empathy that allowed Kamski to see that his creations were alive, and so he set the wheels in motion to give them their freedom.
JageshemashFTW A Deviant at the Scrapyard gave him the location. Also you can see many other androids behind the kara here that look exactly the same, they would have completed the Turing test first.
Theory: Markus Kara and Connor are all RA9 Kara was the first to break free Markus was the one to set everyone free Connor was the one who learned to be free
I dont think Connor would be part of rA9 in any occasion. He was programmed to do the opposite of what rA9 is sopost to do,and its your choice if you want him as a devaint or a machine.Connor is basically evil if you remain him as a machine, only caring about his god damn mission of eliminating deviants
Tetagonic Nah,i haved played the game all over again like 5 times already.Just incase,i was just saying what i thought because Connor is literally an heartless bitch as a machine so it wont make any sense if he is rA9 or part of it ._. If we are talking about Deviant Connor, then maybe, but that's just the players decicion and what they belive
kaRA9 the first Deviant. The QA guy had only one job. To reset the android if there was a problem. He didn't and that one act will probably lead to the machines wiping out humanity with dirty bombs. YOU HAD ONE JOB !
Jami Yeah that means you'd be dead. And me, and everyone else that's alive. I really hate those people that are like "It wouldn't be that bad if humans were all killed or wiped out". It's such a retarded way of thinking. Us humans created this "greater life form" so it shouldn't be trying to exterminate us, or replace us.
I don't want to die and I don't want anyone to die, but in this dystopia where androids are forced to use dirty bombs to preserve their existence the humans deserve it. And just because we created it doesn't mean we have the right to destroy it. You can't kill your children either. Why is it any different?
Holy moly. It's been an unbelievable 12 years... and it still looks good and hasn't lost any of its message. Even though I've seen it several times over the years, it still evokes strong emotions.
I remember watching this years ago before the game itself came out, and someone commented that they believed the disassembly was intentional and part of the standard test check to be sure each unit was programmed to be truly as human as possible, to see if they could be convincingly terrified of "death" and want to "live." I never played the game but I still remember that. Does it have any truth or was it just someone's theory? From what I understand this Kara was genuinely special.
It's a cool theory, but in the game the androids weren't supposed to develop human emotions, they break out of their programming usually to protect someone they care about and they become criminals or "deviants" as they call them in the game.
not at all true, even if its a cool theory in the game theres this whole thing where androids “go deviant” aka start experiencing emotions and go against their programming even kamski, the first person to create androids and the one who seems most like he thinks androids are sentient, doesnt seem like he actively planned or wanted androids to feel emotions its fun to think about it being canon though.

DragonborN7 Well, he’s just the leader. And Conner could also become the leader just sayin’. Ra9 is what they think is an amazing android, the first deviant. She is the first deviant. Markus just joined it and became the leader, he was quite a new deviant when he joined it.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, this is the first android that reprograms itself, it's the first deviant, she's ... rA9. In the game, if you ask Kamsky who is rA9, he tells you that "was the first android to become deviant".
Kazaki ooh. Thx for that, but i don't think THIS is the ra9,you know why. This is KARA,and she isn't the first deviant to ever exist. Also this is when Detroit: become human was still in production.
I saw the play through and I don't think she's rA9. She didn't really save them all, she only escaped with two people. Markus saved them all in the good ending. And also, when Todd broke her, they reset her so she wasn't deviant anymore.
Still Kamski said that deviants believe that rA9 is the first deviant ever existed... and markus isnt the first deviant... in this video kara is the first deviant
I love it that Kara was allowed to live, make choices, find happiness and build a family because of an act of human compassion, because that man looked at her and despite that his brain told him that this wasn't possible his hearth told him that it was true, he didn't see an imitation of a person he saw a real person with a soul.
@@tidan4575 But if it was Kamski why would he go full psycho with a God complex on his Androids, to the point he isn't even bothered to use a Chloe has a test to see if Connor would shoot her (if Connor shoots he doesn't seem bothered all). So I don't think that man was Kamski, since Kamski seems to recognize androids has living beings but more out of vanity for himself, by fueling his God complex, he doesn't seem to look at the androids with any compassion and seems to see has "his" due to him creating them. While this man who spared Kara seems to feel genuine compassion.
@@furonbrainiac6634 You're right, that man WASN'T Kamski because he left Cyberlife four years before Kara was born. As for Chloe, he likely backed up her memory into another platform in case Connor DID shoot Chloe. Same way Cyberlife back's up Connor's memory into another platform if he's "killed." So he wouldn't lose much besides the original platform he first created. But he does sound disappointed in Connor if you do shoot and "kill" her. Plus having developed a machine that can pass the Turing test, Kamski said it wasn't anything more then mathematics and quantum physics. He was more curious to see if machines can evolve to develop empathy and care either for one another or another life form like animals or even humans, or had the ability to think for itself and deviate from its given instructions in the right circumstances. As that's something Kamski could never truly create even if he tried. All he could do was allow the possibility. I don't think he's trying to fuel his God complex, I think he's just curious in trying to find answers to the question on what it means to be alive. If you really think about it, us humans aren't a whole lot different then machines. We're just a billion living cells all working in tandem to create a platform to survive, and that platform has evolved to a level where we can now manipulate the very dust of a planet to create or discuss pretty much anything we want given enough humans that work together. And unfortunately we're starting to reach the limits of that said existence without tech to help us out.

seeing her be given life was beautiful... her cries for help were haunting, and the relief i felt when she was put back together...
i'm glad she was given new life in the form of a game after this prototype. maybe one day we will meet her?
JageshemashFTW so are you tryna say kamski could be ra9 or that kamski was one of the indirect founders of the revolution?
JageshemashFTW A Deviant at the Scrapyard gave him the location. Also you can see many other androids behind the kara here that look exactly the same, they would have completed the Turing test first.
JageshemashFTW dame that's a lot of reading lol

Markus was the one to set everyone free
Connor was the one who learned to be free
Interesting :)

If we are talking about Deviant Connor, then maybe, but that's just the players decicion and what they belive
RA9 as in RA900 , and none of them are the RA900 model.
kaRA9 the first Deviant.
The QA guy had only one job. To reset the android if there was a problem. He didn't and that one act will probably lead to the machines wiping out humanity with dirty bombs. YOU HAD ONE JOB !
So what? A greater life form rises from the ashes of humanity.
Plot Twist: it was Kamski's all along.. he wants Deviant to role over people lol

It's a cool theory, but in the game the androids weren't supposed to develop human emotions, they break out of their programming usually to protect someone they care about and they become criminals or "deviants" as they call them in the game.
not at all true, even if its a cool theory
in the game theres this whole thing where androids “go deviant” aka start experiencing emotions and go against their programming
even kamski, the first person to create androids and the one who seems most like he thinks androids are sentient, doesnt seem like he actively planned or wanted androids to feel emotions
its fun to think about it being canon though.
@@razorkinder the secret ending was where khamski planned the deviants from the beginning to regain control. Not too far off

I remember when this demo first released. Coming soon after the release of Heavy Rain, comments flooded asking if this would become a game and Quantic Dream denied it would be, as they were working on Beyond: Two Souls. Eventually, we would receive this lovely game called Detroit: Become Human.
For a second, forget Detroit: Become Human was ever made. As a short film, this is a masterpiece. I was moved to tears, which is very rare for me.
@X4TERUMI Emotional detachment is no way to go through life kid. If he were still alive Philip K. Dick could tell you that himself.

@@chihabgm7796 As I said it's very rare for me, but something just hit me here. I don't know. I first saw this short long before Detroit: Become Human was even in production so maybe being able to detach it from that allows me to appreciate it more.

DragonborN7 Well, he’s just the leader. And Conner could also become the leader just sayin’. Ra9 is what they think is an amazing android, the first deviant. She is the first deviant. Markus just joined it and became the leader, he was quite a new deviant when he joined it.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, this is the first android that reprograms itself, it's the first deviant, she's ... rA9. In the game, if you ask Kamsky who is rA9, he tells you that "was the first android to become deviant".
wow, this is a great theory
Kazaki ooh. Thx for that, but i don't think THIS is the ra9,you know why. This is KARA,and she isn't the first deviant to ever exist. Also this is when Detroit: become human was still in production.

A very powerful story. Deeply emotional.
Well done.
I love it that Kara was allowed to live, make choices, find happiness and build a family because of an act of human compassion, because that man looked at her and despite that his brain told him that this wasn't possible his hearth told him that it was true, he didn't see an imitation of a person he saw a real person with a soul.
I believe it's even possible that person was Elijah Kamski himself back when Cyberlife was first starting up. Would explain why he left Cyberlife.
