    Song was written by Don Reid, one of the two real brothers of the Statler's the other being Harold who was the bass singer. Another song which showed the courage of the group was "Bed of Roses".

    The Statler Bros., while highly acclaimed during their day, seem to be underappreciated in history. They had so many hits, one of my favorites is ---- Susan when she tried.

    The back up vocals give me chills. Whether you like country or not, few bands can top the harmony these guys had. Bonus for being included in GTA San Andreas.

    This was released in 1970. You can hear Lew DeWitt he had such a great voice. Another from these guys to react to How are things in Clay Kentucky

      Wilson Fairchild (sons of Don and Harold Reed) does a better job of Clay, Kentucky than the Statler Bros. The Statlers' version is too fast, while the version done by Wilson Fairchild is slower and IMO has more feelings put into the words.

    Don, you need to do the Statlers. COUNTING FLOWERS ON THE WALL. It was their biggest hit. This group was the top country group for quite a while. They have such a distinctive sound.

    I knew this song years ago, but it was included on the soundtrack for one of the Grand Theft Auto games. Those games introduced a lot of people to classic music from lots of different genres.

      Amazing how these video games are re-popularizing great music from the past. Introducing to audiences that have never even heard real music. At first I kinda had an attitude about the video games. but once I saw the results (Big Iron 12 million views, plus a number of parodies) * had a big change of heart.. I have come to the conclusion that RUclips Reactors and video games are the on;ly things keeping real music alive! Thank you.

    Thanks for the dedication Don! Can't go wrong with the Statler Brothers even though the song took an unexpected turn. :-) Glad the shirt fits so well...its a good look for you. Just getting over Covid in time to enjoy all the bowl games. Since my Longhorns are MIA, I took full enjoyment yesterday watching Houston beat Auburn and Texas Tech annihilate MS State! Hoping to get lucky again tonight and see Iowa State and OU get the wins.

      @RockN2Country  2 года назад +2

      @David Emswiler Yeah, that wasn't the ideal song to choose, but if anyone ever wondered if I'm really reacting to songs I already know, this should settle that. Has! As for the bowl games, I ws with my niece and nephew last night at a small gathering of family and friends. My niece and nephew both live in Austin now, and Erik, my nephew, was here with his girlfriend. Morgan grew up in Texas and has lived there her whole life, and went to A&M. So it was ironic that I'm hanging with someone who went to the school that Rutgers replaced in the Gator Bowl. Funny thing is she couldn't care less about sports. She was mildly rooting for Tech and Houston, but wasn't emotional about those games in any way.
      I'm glad you're feeling better, as I didn't realize you had Covid. Hopefully my next acknowledgement of you and Christine will be more fitting. It's pretty much impossible not to be. Ha!!

    I absolutely adore the Statler Brothers. I had a huge crush on Harold when I was a teen.
    Jimmy Fortune was actually recommended to The Statler Brothers by Lew Dewitt when his Crohns Disease became more than he could handle. It was planned to be tempoary at first but it was just not possible physically for him to return.
    Both Lew and Jimmy left their mark with the group, as both were very talented tenors and song writers.
    The one member of the group who was maybe not given enough credit/attention for his vocal abilities (not by the group, but by the fans) was baritone, Phil Balsley. But, then, the baritone is rarely noticed for the contribution they are making to the group.
    Their name was chosen on the spot in a motel room. They were, at the time performing locally under the name "Kingsmen". There were, however, two other popular groups with that same name. A rock group (Louie, Louie) and a Southern Gospel Quartet. They were growing in popularity and had to come up with a name for themselves. There was a box of "Statler" tissues in the motel....so....the rest is history.
    It is not possible for me to pick a favorite song or even era from the Statler Brothers. The list is practically endless.
    There's "Charlottes Web" which they wrote for the movie "Smokie And The Bandit 2".
    ruclips.net/video/wV6s9Sb4Ur0/видео.html
    Here's the song "Statler Brothers Quiz" where they answer a lot of the questions fans ask them frequently. But you have to listen closley and try to remember the order. LOL
    ruclips.net/video/GH8-VuWAWm0/видео.html
    They were asked to come up with a song for the 1979 Country music Awards. The results were " How To Be A Country Star".
    ruclips.net/video/cK0-AZKf23w/видео.html
    Probably the most misunderstood song, IMO, is their song "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You". I have seen it commented that this would be a great wedding song. Ummmmmm.....You might want to go with "My Only Love" instead, as "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You" is a song about a man's unrequited love for a woman who belongs to someone else. LOL
    ruclips.net/video/5mcqEkjURnM/видео.html (Oh, by the way, that is the "Oak Ridge Boys in the background gettin in a little advertising. ;) )
    "My Only Love" written by Jimmy Fortune
    ruclips.net/video/E_zKrJIAN5g/видео.html
    The statler Brothers worked for Johnny Cash for about 8 years without a contract.

I would suggest Jimmy Fortune's latest project Brotherly Love aka Fortune/Walker/Rogers/Isaacs best harmony I have ever heard.. BUT The Stattler Brothers certainly were an awesome act and also the sons of the Reid brothers are a terrific act to catch up on.. (Wilson Fairchild)

    I do love the Statlers. Thy had a wonderful blend of voiced and a nice, simple musical style. Most of their best songs have acoustic backgrounds which comes close to blue grass. Nothing personal against Jimmy Fortune (who replaced an ailing Lew DeWitt, but I never thought he fit their sound all bthat well, probably because most of his prior experience was as a solo act. In the words of a a friend of mine, 'h tries too hard.' I could never choose just one favorite, but I'll list off 'Years Ago,' 'Oh Baby Mine,' and a short-but-heartfelt song, 'Better Than I Did Then."

    • @patriciakeith6755
      @patriciakeith6755 2 года назад

      Nothing against your post @B Williams, but I will have to disagree with you on your take on Jimmy Fortune not fitting in with the Statler Bros. Since the Statlers chose Fortune to join them, I would state they knew more about who would fit in their group than anyone else.

    With all the discussion about Jimmy Fortune, I think you should react to Elizabeth. I think that was their first release after he joined them, and it is really beautiful. I'm kind of on the fence about him
    In the video, there was a picture of the Road Hog van, and SOMEDAY you ought to give The Saturday Morning Radio Show a listen. It is uproariously funny. It is so funny that it's on the level with those who mean to be comedians!
    And the discussion about harmony - Statlers are great, Browns are great - but there is one group no one has paid any attention to that I think is the greatest harmony group of all - Tompall and the Glaser Brothers. Listen to Molly Darling by them. Unbelievable. Your reactions are really good, you have interesting perspectives.
