This is why planting and growing for yourself is so crucial this year and beyond. I feel we are in the beginning stages of a depression, no matter what the people in charge of telling us. My favorite laundry detergent, my favorite dishwashing tabs have all risen by five dollars or more. I just started making my own for a fraction of the cost and it is so much better than store-bought. My cleaners are simply orange, peel, soaked in vinegar and then diluted by water, my bathroom cleaner is Pine needles and branches infused and rubbing alcohol from the $1.25 store but next time I’m just going to use straight vinegar or apple cider vinegar because I forage wild apples to put up all of my Apple goodies and all the peels and cores I used to make my own apple cider vinegar so literally cost me nothing and this is why WE ALL need Think outside of the box because we can pretty much make everything that we buy from the store.. I actually am seriously thinking about starting a RUclips channel just so that people know how to save money. I’ve been living the frugal lifestyle for over 20 years and never because I had to I just chose to.

Lelani as a fellow Christian myself (and in the state located right next to PA, when you have complete Faith and Trust in Christ Jesus, God will provide for you what you need even during high inflation periods.
Take this as words of encouragement.
If your garden isn't big, it's most likely because God has determined that's its already all you need.
You are blessed to even have a garden at all. I live in an apartment with no terrace at all and im ok with that

I'm in California. I have no choice but to cut back. I'm at the point where I have to make do or do without. My patio has become a a little patio garden. I'm growing Peppers and herbs to start. Maybe next year I can get some bigger pots and do some carrots and some other things. The sweet pepper here are expensive. I also just saw Aldi is cutting the price of 250 store items to help customers. I had to go to Aldi today. It was much cheaper than anywhere else. I can cobble meals together with their weekly sale items. Hope everyone is doing well, and don't fret, we can Make it Make 💖💖

I feel for you.. my son, his wife and 3-young children are having a very hard time to making ends meet. My son works as much overtime as he can get working around his wife's schedule so one of them are home to watch the munchkins. I can stretch a penny but my son saids mom we dont have time.. if you think like this then its not good. In their situation its the little things that will add up in freeing up more money.. Buying take out food so you end up working 2-3hrs to pay for it makes no sense to me.. cooking once and eating twice 3-4 times a week will save them at least $400 a month or more. Opening up the windows at night and closing first thing in the morning will help save on your electric.. where they are located they could grow food several months out of the year.. hanging clothes on a outside line..things are about to get much more expensive in Cali with the new gas tax.. I wish they would just sell their home and move where the cost of living is 50% less.. and their professions they can work anywhere. I wish you the best.

I make my own laundry powder with 1 box Borax and 1 box washing soda. I use 1/4 cup on a load and it works far better than any purchased laundry powder.
I never buy packaged food. I make everything from scratch.
I grow as much of my own food as I can manage in a small garden. I succession sow. When one thing comes out, another goes in.
If I need fast food, I buy a rotisserie chicken from Walmart and a package of buns or bread rolls. Hot chicken sandwiches are delicious and healthy and it cost around $10 for 6 people!

Currant tomatoes are pea size super sweet, Dr Wyche and Kellogg's Breakfast are large yellow slicers, Amish Paste are very large paste, San marzano are large cylinder shaped paste tomatoes. Brandy wine are one of my favorite large slicing tomatoes. Paul Robeson is a purple medium size slicer that has tons of umami flavor.....smoky,sweet,acidic hard to describe the awesomeness!

Withregards to saving money on cleaning products, vinegar. 50/50 5% vinegar and water for basic cleaning, including a persons body. Then increasing it to straight 5% vinegar cleaning more stubborn surfaces. Baking soda can be mixed in a water vinegar solution too, but will have an initial foaming reaction, but can be helpful with cleaning. Most of the soaps/ detergents, etc, have cancer causing/ bad for our health like agents, that shouldn’t be touching our skin and being absorbed into our bodies. Vinegar and sodium bicarbonate are benign in general. Switching over to vinegar will save money for sure. Great channel, had noticed your canning vids, good stuff, thank you.

for your next tomato planting, you can take down their lower leaves and plant them reaaaaally deep because tomatoes can grow roots from their stems. this way you can get stronger plants :) also, make sure to water them very heavily after planting. you can mulch them with wood chips/dried hay so the soil can retain more water and you can go more without watering or get them through better in a drought.
I feel you so deeply on the inflation/cost of living topic, even though I live on almost the other side of the world (in Hungary) but it looks like we have the same issues... I always budget and I get a really decent salary (compared to others in Hungary), but I still struggle after paying my loan, buying food, paying the bills... and it is so tiring to be honest, I just want to not think about paying for a new book or sg :D

It is just my daughter and myself. I do the most of my grocery shopping at Aldi's. I buy frozen vegetables, butter, ice cream, bread, cleaning products and most fresh veggies there. I do not like their meats, but most of their other products are cheaper than the chain markets. As for meat, I have been buying it from OMAHA Steaks. They often offer deals that are very good, in my opinion. The portions are just the right size for me and my daughter. I've found that we have much less waste, therefore, save money. I do have a large garden and can, freeze or dehydrate many of my herbs and veggies. This year I plan on making and canning tomato paste.

I have gotten to where I buy nothing until it's on sale, and then I buy a little extra. I'm starting to get a small stock pile. I went to Kroger today to get their bogo on meat. I bought about $150 in meat, by the time I was done cutting it down into meals, I filled the freezer with about 6 weeks of dinners at about $3.40 per meal. And most will have leftovers for lunch the next day. They were the best deals I've gotten in over a year.

I know the names of those tomatoes except one. When I plant a variety of different tomatoes they are separated from each other well to prevent cross pollination. I seed collect to grow the following year.
I grew Amish Paste for first time last year. I really like that tomatoe as much as San Manzano for making sauce.
I place my trellis system up for my tomatoes while they are young to keep from disturbing the roots later. Not sure what method you will be using.
Growing vegetables, fruit and herbs at home is awesome and seed saving. The flavor is so much better than anything store bought.
I added black consort currant berry plants last year. I use them to make blueberry currant jelly. Not easy locating currant berries in my state.
    Happy Gardening!!!

Kellogg’s Breakfast is the BEST tasting tomato ever! At least it is for me, in my hot arid climate. Every climate grows each type differently, so you might like others better. It is a large yellow/orange tomato, so it will be a while before they are ripe. That was so sweet of your neighbor to give you the plants. You pronounced all the tomato names very well!

As for inflation, here in the UK everything is going up as well. Especially fresh vegetables, even if they're not imported from the European continent. That's why I try to grow as much a I can in my little garden and preserve it as best I can. And my garden is probably handkerchief size compared to yours. The other thing I try to do, when possible, is to shop around and make the most of special offers and in particular markdown vegetables, fruit and herbs. I even saved seeds from reduced in price premium tomatoes this winter and sowed them this spring. A few of them have germinated and I cannot wait how they will grow and what they might produce. Personal sanitary stuff I thankfully don't need anymore being close o 60 yes old. Tho yeah, money can be tight but there are ways around making it work for you. That's what I learned from my late Dad anyway. Like if something tempts you in the shop, ask yourself ' do I Really need this?' 'is it necessary?' If not, leave it, go home, think about it. If you still want it the next day, ok buy it. But I bought some many things over the decades which I now regret having spend good money on. If it's not necessary for your survival or you can, to steal your phrase Make it make, save your cash for something you cannot make yourself. There's always a way young lady. Bless you.

Every one of those tomatoes are correct, I've grown most of them at one time or another. Amish paste and San Marzano are plum tomatoes, good for tomatoe paste. Kellogs breakfast is a yellow as is Dr Wyches and both are huge beefsteak. Paul Robeson is a favourite of mine and It can be misshapen, but has a fabulous taste.
I'm growing Black Krim, Tigerella and Roma this year inside and Crimson Crush outside as it's blight resistant. You have more room than me, I have to limit my efforts every year. Good luck, Keep watering them regular, no skipping.
I make hundreds of meals from my garden, but I live alone. Learn what to grow that need little attention and what you like. I grow things that are expensive to buy, but I like them. French Beans are a winner, I'm still eating last years crop from the freezer HUGE CROP :)

Honestly, my saving grace these days has been to order bulk organic food from Azure Standard. So grateful for it!

I’m so glad I found your channel last week!! I just started water bath canning for the very first time a few days ago! I’ve used your w.b. canning videos as a teaching tool. You do things the “ old” way ( rebel canning) which I love!! I’ve been canning vegetable’s and soup mainly. I’m really trying hard to can “ meals in a jar” just incase there is a food shortage. I have canned some diced chicken breast, and mixed vegtables for my dog. She’s on prescription dog food, as she lacks the enzyme to digest fat. I supplement her dog food with boneless/skinless chicken breast and mixed vegs. Quick question! I diced raw chicken up into bite size pieces ( she’s a small dog), and mixed it with frozen mixed vegtables. I processed it for three hours. The chicken basically disintegrated into what looks like small fibers.
Is there any way to prevent that?? I figured it’s most likely because I cut the pieces relatively small, and it was a three hour process time.
Watching this video gave me the motivation to plant my garden tomorrow!! It’s probably too late for me to start by seed, but I’ll buy some vegetable plants that are already started!! Better late than never!! ❤❤❤ blessings to you!!

I've heard that one tomato pronounced "Dr Witchy". The others were right, as far as I could tell, but I've never heard of a kelloggs one. 😂 Not sure about it!

Jessica Sowards from Roots and Refuge started everyone calling it Dr. “Witchy”, but that’s not the correct pronunciation. I think it’s more like Dr. Wikes”.

Can you tell me if you’ve ever canned Onions? If so, do they loose their bite-taste?

I absolutely love your videos! Growing your own food and learning how to be more self substantial is detrimental during these times. Food on the shelf at this moment is more valuable than money in the bank our faith in Jesus Christ assures us that He will provide for us. We are a family of 9 and we live very low maintenance learned how to make our own soaps medical medicine, canning, making our own colloidal silver, growing our own food building what what we need from free pallets not partaking in any worldly holidays but being set apart we have to remember we are in this world but not of it. It’s okay to want less and to have less. God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ and whatever you do do it with your whole heart. Keep enduring until the end keep looking up Jesus Christ will be returning soon.

    🙏
Christ, share our prayers with our Father.
    Heavenly Father,
May we be humbled by your Greatness and your Grace.
May we offer to you our sacrifices, that you will forgive our faults.
Guide us as we walk with our Neighbors, that your Love will be seen in us, through our Choices.
Remind us that you are with us, always and that you carry us through hardship.
    Thank you, Father.
