Regret, one of the many feelings I experience during a legendary playthrough of Halo 2. My swear jar is always happy when I do one of these though.

Man, you made that ending look easy. My friend and I gave up on the ending after about 50 attempts.
Considering how straightforward the fight itself is, the real issue is the fact that, on Legendary, all enemies have a bullshit 1.5x damage multiplier against you and can take stupidly high amounts of damage. Throw in limited weapon options and infinitely respwaning enemies and you've got yourself a right bullshitstorm.

Yeah, where's the fun in that? I bought the game to shoot stuff, not run past everything. And my guides are specifically meant to teach you how to shoot stuff so that you don't have to run past everything.
Yooo, I know you made this vid 5 years ago, but did you do these playthroughs w/o dying or reverting to the last saved checkpoint. Cause I'm tryna do that right now on Heroic with every mission. Not legendary. Heroic. And yea, shits still pretty f-ing hard. Also fantastic guide brotha. Keep doing these!

This mission was such a fucking slog, but the real hell for me was the Regret boss fight. It's simple enough on paper, but the bullshit enemy damage multipliers make the Honor Guards really frustrating to deal with... I finally finished the level a few minutes before writing this.

Savage walkthrough dude. Replaying the whole Halo series thanks to MCC and a copy of Halo 5 and Halo Infinite. I have always had trouble with 2. I can chip along over a period of weeks and brute force my way through. But using your videos I can finesse and actually "skill" my way through now. Top job.
Can't help but marvel how well preserved those ruins are after millennia and what secrets they hold.

They’re are some cool passage ways and secret tunnels around that area if you grenade jump to certain platforms. There isn’t anything much of value expect some cool visuals and maybe some grenades or a hidden Carbine rife. Otherwise the whole area is free to explore just for the fun of it. It’s fun to think about what these ruins were designed for. Maybe the ancient humans had arena battles there for pride and honor. It’s cool to think about. Hopefully this is a better answer than the plain nothing he gave you. 😂🙏🏾

Go into the Regret fight with a sniper/beam rifle and an energy sword. The rifle is for the honor guards. The sword is for the grunts. Your job is to always be moving around the room to evade fire. Use the rifle to kill any honor guards carrying plasma rifles as they are your biggest threat. Use the sword to kill any grunts that get in your way. Leave the sword-wielding honor guards alone. As long as you keep moving, neither Regret nor the sword-wielding honor guards can touch you. If you do get unlucky enough to get cornered by a sword-wielding honor guard, stun him with a shot from your rifle to get around him or if you want to play it safer or there’s no other option, take the second headshot and kill him.

Yeah this works very well
To be honest, it's better to use a Covenant carabine instead of an energy sword, not only the lunge of the sword is detrimental since they die to a regular swing, but the ending lag leaves you exposed to any incoming attacks from other Grunts and Honor Guard Elites.
Plus headshots is always very good.
I don't know what it is about this level, but it's really relaxing... I remember falling asleep at the pause screen once.
On Easier difficulties more so lol.

Finished Halo 2 Anniversary on Legendary last summer, I honestly can't describe the feeling of beating this game. So much pain and triumph.
Hey Hokie, I completed regret on legendary because of you. Thanks!!!😁😁👍🏽👍🏽. The regret boss fight was so tough because I got checkpoints in wierd places where a dual plasma rifle elite was always outside and I got killed so many times. Took me almost 2 hours
Another helpful tip for the prophet boss fight I found, if you can get back to the entrance between attacks you can walk out the door to cover as the elites dont follow out and when your shields recharge, while not in combat, and with enemies far enough away, you will get a checkpoint. You can even throw a grenade on the floor to damage your shields while in the safe room and once they recharge you get a checkpoint. So for the slow and steady approach if you're having trouble getting checkpoints you can attack, retreat, get checkpoint, repeat. This is also helpful for finding fresh plasma pistols as the grunts tend to congregate near the entrance.

Hey, on Delta Halo, I'm right at the part where two hunters drop from the phantom and I did a weird glitch in which if you have the MCC, press the back/select button to switch to old school mode (that's what I like to call it) right when the phantom swings over your head when its about to unload the hunters, then quickly press the back/select again to switch back to modern mode. The phantom plus the hunters its carrying, disappear and you can skip the fight which kind of PISSED me off but was funny as hell because I wanted to fight them!
+Black Samurai 76 You don't even have to switch back. I was playing through it on Classic Mode in MCC and the Phantom just disappears into thin air randomly. It pissed me off too especially considering that it was never addressed by the devs

these guides are awesome, so many years later! I do have to say though, when the mission starts, I find myself with the weapons used in Delta Halo...so I do wish I had that beam rifle 😂

In the beginning at that bridge, if you jump on the pillars to reach a balcony on the edge of the building and walk to the left and keep going, there is a beam rifle with a vantage point where you can see all the jackal snipers as they spawn, aswell as the elites. There is also an opening there where you can see inside the room with the jackals and grunts, and you can rain fire on them.
I was able to save both Marines from the beginning
And then they probably die due to the glassing.

Ghosts of Reach
Note: If you're down to 1 or 2 shots left for a favorite weapon, give it to an ally. Allies never run out of ammunition. Also in this level, make sure to keep your allies behind you because they will run out, let all enemies know where you are and that you are there, and then make the game harder. Hiding is crucial. Picking them off at a distance is important. After the hunters, pick off the covenant from the gondola by sniping them. Bring tons of weapons onto the gondola. My favorite Marines are the women and the American guy. The others are stupid and get in the way or just annoying and even do their own missions. At the second gondola, jump onto it and kill the Elites. After that, snipe the grunts and jackals with beam rifle and sniper rifle. Once Inside, kill them as he says, then go up above the elevator and get the fuel rod gun the sleeping grunt has. Listen to the baby grunt sleep for a moment (it's worth it and so cute) and leave without waking him or killing him. It's funny just thinking about when he wakes up, his gun is missing and his allies are all dead and he's by himself. Bring extra needlers and shotgun and bazooka with you from the gondola. You can only keep three extra weapons on the floor of the elevator. Bring the weapons with you. When you hit a grunt in the nose/face, it makes a noise

It’s worth it, man. Keep in mind that some levels, like Gravemind and High Charity, have a visual glitch that won’t go away when playing Halo 2 on 360.
its 2023 and ive already watched this 4 times and i dont even own halo games no more. thats how good they are. i want to buy a pc exclusively because of halo (i owned an xbox 1 but that is a piece of junk as far as hardware so ill stick with my playstation). and ill keep coming back because thats how good the video and production is. great job my man. wish you eventually make a come back and do some other games (noobs guide for metal gear solid V? or terminator resistance? or their new robocop game? god of war? any of these id love to see your play and approach
Just did this level on legendary, found a pretty reliable opener to save both marines at the beginning, its worth a try if you have a plasma pistol from the previous mission.
If you immediately jump up and try to leave, the marines to a good job at immediately following you and avoiding the drone fire. The downside, 4 elites spawn directly in front of you so if you're not quick ducking out of cover and one shotting them you're toast.
Always found it odd that they put stealthed grunts in this level

Also, when you get to the first tower past at the end of the first gondola, and you kill all the enemies, a pelican arrives and drops off reinforcements should any of your marines have died. They come in on the roof and hop down the catwalk.
This was an interesting level with lots of nice views over the lake and from where you originally started on the previous level.
Prophet of regret is really well made by the developers, the voice lines are hilarious. I had good luck with removing only the marines and the plasma guards and using the middle plateau because of cover and sight with fast results. Only stunning the grunts with plasma pistol if they pose a problem and the guards with charged pp or plasma grenades thrown on the ground, because they try to evade it by jumping away or waiting. And you can have kind of qicksave if you leave your profile and copy and restore savegames in Users/user/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Halo 2/Saved Games
the halo 2 anniversary the camo makes them unseeable but can change between new and old :P

When i am fighting regret, honor guards keep spawn and i cant even had a second chance to punch regret, there are no good cover to fight them too, those honor guards come from both side and i cant take a rest to recharge my shield
A little cheese tactic I found for Regret's fight is to camp the main door. For some reason, honor guards will not pursue you pass those doors (with the exception of swords). And for some other reason, I found that the honor guards will rarely move up the ramps to the main door, although grunts do. And for some reason, again, Regret will camp in front of the door waiting for you.
With this cheese, you mostly have to fight grunts and just jump up to punch Regret. With how he is positioned, you can easily run back through the main door after he teleports, after which he'll just politely hover back to the top of the ramp waiting for you. Rinse and repeat

Regret is annoying to fight but using your strategy and constantly being on the move makes it quite doable. I was even able to get a checkpoint in the middle of it which was a big help.
My marines died before the gondola ride with the banshees right before Regret. Holy fuck me twice. That was probably the hardest shit I’ve ever done in my gaming career. Literally ever. If you let the gondolas get close enough and take out one banshee it checkpoints. I had one banshee and the fuel rod grunts were seconds away. I had to keep jumping off to get the checkpoint revert. Literally the hardest encounter in my video game career and I’ve been playing Halo for 18 years. Note: the marines are practically a must for that part. Holy shit that was hard. Came here to see how you did it and of course you make it peachy and fun
I got stuck in the part where you kill Regret. It took me over an hour. My marines didn't help a little when they survived, because Regret kept killing them. If you're having difficulty I suggest using the doors on the bottom of the room. They provide cover but you have to be cautious or an enemy might sneak up behind you. If hadn't gotten a third checkpoint I probably wouldn't have done it.

I figured out best time to jump regret is at either end of the area near the entrance or the back so you have time to retreat to a choke point to combo the guards. I chose entrance and it was pretty easy for me

i wish the halo series was made on the pc aswell, there is so much i've missed simply because i don't have a xbox.. it''s such a shame really... but i've always been a fan since combat evolved and i've seen walkthroughs on every fps halo game there is. here's hoping for halo 6 on the pc and a port in the future that allows me to spend money and enjoy the older titles aswell

How the hell are your honor guard respawn rates so low? When I kill 1, 3 more rush out immediately after
It is, it just doesn't come with it. I use the component cable anyway since my my Hauppauge HD PVR doesn't have inputs for anything else.
It might also be worth pointing out that when you go outside to "pick up a fresh beam rifle" this is the perfect time to pick up a fresh pair of marines. Right around the corner outside, is where a Skull is by two harmless drunk dancing sword elites. They wont hurt you. Pick up the skull to get your achievement for it and then take the same path (the one that you just Googled cuz I dont wanna type it out) back to the front of the building. A Pelican will come and drop two Marines on top of you. This happens on MCC, idk if it does that on H2A.

20:14 after dealing with the hunters i looked around to find my marines, and i found them dead next to 2 or 3 jackals in the room where the jackals spawn, ill never forget you stacker and chips dubbo :(

I don't know if you still check comments on these videos, but something happened to me in the "sniper hell" room at 17:53 that didn't seem to happen to you in this video. At the exact same time the first 4 jackal snipers spawned, I got a checkpoint and 4 honor guards with swords spawned near myself and my two marines. I had to deal with them instead of the jackal snipers, and by that time we were getting torn apart by the drones, snipers, AND hunters. There was simply no saving the marines in that situation. I reverted to checkpoint probably 20 times but I got COMPLETELY screwed over by those honor guards.
That can happen, because the checkpoint trigger depends on where you are positioned, rather than how many enemies are still alive. I’d call that one a learning experience, and try to revert back two checkpoints by dying 5 times in quick succession.
My favorite mission
Well, if you like shooting things, you're gonna love this. I just beat regret 2day Legendary (Skulls: grunt b-day, iwhbyd, sputnik, un named skull, catch). In the boss fight, everytime i landed from punching regret I got SLAUGHTERED by dual plasma rifle elites. So i decided to force the game to run out of honor guards. It worked. I would pop my head in the room, trigger the honor guards, retreat as soon as they arrived, then pick them off with the beam rifle.Eventually it was just me and regret
This level is so far the toughest. I died 100 times getting to regret and 100 more times trying to kill regret.
I love the final part where you have to kill the prophet, despite how difficult it seems, to me it's fun. What I did to avoid using the "elite combo" was to use the energy sword against the elite honor guards, plasma grenades to those who bring the sword, and headshots to the grunts. So it went well for me without problems. I had a lot of fun and laughed several times. When I was hitting the prophet there were sometimes enemies downstairs waiting for me and they used to be elites with a plasma rifle or double rifle. When they were the ones with a weapon, I worried about dying when getting out of the prophet but I thought there was a possibility of getting out of that one, and I always tried to flee once the prophet teleported, most of the time i got out successfully. But definitely when I saw that it was an elite with a double weapon, it scared me and said in my mind: "Damn mother, I already screwed up XD". And in the vast majority of cases, it was. And in those moments I was even afraid that the prophet would vanish and have to go down (because a 95% certain death awaited me). There is not much you can do once the elites with the double plasma rifle are close to you with no obstacles in their way; death is almost instantaneous. That's why suddenly I was having problems in that final part, with those who have a plasma rifle you can still save yourself or do something, be it hitting a grenade, fleeing or killing them with the sword. But when they're the ones with the double plasma rifle, you don't have enough time to react to get out of that one. And almost always died. They were my biggest fear in that place xD. But hey, it was a challenge and I still had a great time and had a lot of fun. That part and the mission were badass.
At the last gondola bring all of the weapons onto the gondola. Then jump on the passing gondola with a battle rifle, grab the fuel rod cannons and jump back over. Now you have better weapons and tons of weapons!
I've recently done this mission on legendary Coop (MCC PC) and I've discovered that If you let a single grunt alive during the boss fight, enemies will STOP spawning until that last grunt is killed. Since the grunt is moving very slowly, you can lure him on the other side of the room away from the Prophet so you have time to attack him without risking getting killed. Although the grunt might still shoot at you, he isn't much of a threat at all. I will say that this needs further testing since I'm not sure how reliable it is, but it definitely worked for me.
I'm curious to know more. I figured that only a finite number of enemies could be loaded at one time, so if they were all Grunts...but I'm not sure if this is how it actually works.
@@Hokiebird428 I might be wrong but my theory is that the reinforcements come in infinite waves. But only a single wave at a time can enter the area. I will eventually test this theory when I'll play the level on solo. If it works the first time, I'll try to reset the fight a couple times to see If it actually works everytime. I'll report to you my conclusions as soon as I complete my tests.

Hokie did you know that the players master chief is seen in this cutscene? Two separate models are used and you can see the leg of the player’s model. The same is with the arbiter but you don’t see the player’s model unless you use a mod to fly around during cutscenes.
What always puzzled me is how the gravemind is able to absorb regret when he was clearly glassed by that carrier...
Well the forerunner structure that he was on was clearly very old and not very well maintained. The sentinel wall perhaps could resist, but not the temple.
When I start with the default plasma pistol and BR, I like to run out to meet the elites. Grenade Combo the first, Elite combo the others while tossing plasma grenades. BR headshot any grunts that approach from that open corridor. It does mean relying on the marines to hold off the bugs before you can go back to help but they'll both survive ~50% of the time.
I don't know what the other Marine's name is either but he's my favorite. The voice is David Cross from Mr. Show With Bob and David, Arrested Develpment, Men In Black, etc. I had a hell of a time in that first room. I'm playing the Legendary playlist and I didn't plan ahead, so I had to start that room with the half full battle rifle and and almost dead plasma pistol I had at the end of the previous mission. And I had hell with the Hunter room. I'm playing on MCC and sometimes, though not every time, a couple of sword Honor Guard would come out on the right side instead of more snipers.
You do your job very well. The game is astonishingly good, but it lacks the option to turn music off and really bad are the fixed saves, quicksave list to choose from is mandatory.

Can I play the original version of this game on 360 via backwards compatibility? Also would i some how be able to play the PC version on 360?
I should have kept my beam rifle from the previous mission. I just don't understand why I didn't get to keep the marines all armed with beam rifles and sniper rifles from the last level?

I'm stuck trying to kills regret. Seems like the honor guards are spawning alot faster for me. Its never clear to board the throne. Is it different for the MCC?

If you're having troube with this part, it's probably because you are neglecting to kill the honour guards you say. How about I got a checkpoint after the first punch, kill two sword guards and get a second punch and it spawns 3 guards at a time one sword two double wielders so I can't move cause they surround me... yeah screw this.
If you're truly desperate, head back out to the entrance of the temple to get your bearings. The honor guards will wait by the door, but won't pursue.
Hokiebird428 dude I beat it on a mcc playlist and then I keep having a bunch of Honor guards with plasma rifle spawn near me and I know mythictyrant said that a good strategy is to just have sword elites true but plasma rifle elites spawn anyway and I get screwed when two to three of the come cant noob combo all three at once plus I was so close to die before I jumped on regret the last time I prayed that it was the last time I had to board him because I was desperate

Have you noticed how certain "missions" are really just the same mission after a cutscene? Why does Halo 2 have no load times between missions, and why couldn't other Halo games manage that?
8:34 lol I didn’t know there were two marine reinforcements if yours die so I busted my ass to keep my original two marines alive through the hunter fight. And I literally could have just let them die and get two better marines. All I got was the weapons.. Which means only one sniper rifle. And I’m too many checkpoints passed to be able to go back.
24:03 i gave my marine a shotgun and the other a fuel rod cannon(i killed hunters with carbin or whatever) my fuel rod marine shredded the elite with sword XD(my weapons were carbin or whatever and an energy sword.)
The 2 marines you start with almost made it through the whole mission with me. Then I got 2 more after the hunters are dead. 4 marines. Then we got to the end and they got WRECKED
