@@PrettyMuchIt for my own sake I’ll admit that I’ve lost the receipts for this bit of trivia, which bugs the hell outta me. But the big empty apartment with the corner exit and big weird slidey door going... somewhere are the same. The windows are kinda different, and the balcony is very much not there in Daredevil, though. Even still, they match in terms of the brickwork and window pane design, so I feel comfortable saying that the two are *at least* stealing from the same sources, if not the same set given a couple tweaks.

Discussion of how terrible the characters of RENT are without mentioning that Angel killed a dog?
They feel entitled to occupy a building without contributing. a.k.a. NOT paying.
To add insult to injury they work against the landlord to do something to part of the building so he can actually make money off the building
I do think that everyone in Rent would come across much better if they’d just cast actual 18/19y/o because they’d be stupid and young so you’d kinda get it

The “heroes” are living in the most expensive city in the world throwing stacks of flaming pieces of paper onto the street talking about how they’re entitled not to ever pay a cent of rent and the guy that has let them live there for years rent free is a “sellout” and the villain for asking them to pay not even this years rent but last years. Then he wants to build something in the bottom to help pay the bills and these pricks refuse to let him

First World Problems: The Musical!
The sad thing is that they could have made a truly iconic, moving musical to be emblematic of the struggles of people during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, which was truly an important moment in human history, but instead this piece of garbage is what everyone thinks of. It would have been great to at least have one character that wasn't obnoxious and had self-awareness.
Lindsey Ellis made a great commentary about this musical and how a lot of media about "revolution" is intentionally made to be super vague and not meant to actually critique specific systematic or societal flaws because that would alienate a bunch of potential consumers. And especially in musicals where the majority of their revenue comes from wealthy patrons who are usually part of the problem.
