    What is the best way to use Micro Sol?

    • @modelchili
      @modelchili  3 года назад +2

      You just apply it with a brush over a decal. It's usually best to wait until the decal has settled a bit, so it doesn't go floating away. Apply a bit over the decal and wait. Sometimes it'll wrinkle up a bit and freak you out, but just apply another coat and wait. The decal will eventually settle down and look like paint.

    You mentioned that most of the newer Star Trek kits have also this vast amounts of decals. Are there any kits out there with a more complex build and hull details which can be painted instead on relying on decals? I love Star Trek and I love scale building but these decals really scare me...

    Very nice job on the model. Only ship designs I like from this show is the Discovery itself (not the refit with silly floating nacelles though) and USS Shenzhou. The rest is "meh". Oh and don't get me started on the ugly Klingon ship designs. So hideous all of them. They even managed to ruin the D7's. Unlike back in the days when the motion picture managed to improve on them from TOS D7's to become the K'Tingas.
    The show itself is so bad and cringy too.
    One thing that has made me NOT getting this kit is it's small scale. Would be a pain to lit with all it's fiddly thin details in this scale. I like my spaceships lit up. It adds a bit of "realism" to them. Just like I want my tanks and military models and such weathered, to look more "real".
    In my opinion it should be 1:1000 to fit with many of the other ones from Polar Lights Star Trek. They should all be same scale and not just made to fit the boxes. Which Discovery doesn't even do. Lots of empty space in that box.
    Model makers should just make their minds up if go with 1/700, 1:1000, 1/1400 etc. Not some in 1/700 then another in 1/2500. Stick with one scale for all. Then maybe a few 1/350 of really popular kits. Not be all over the place with scales. Of course smaller ships like Tie Fighters, Vipers, Eagles etc go with 1/72 or 1/32 scale. Maybe 1/48, but make sure not some are this or that scale. Unify scaling more. Like military models are. 1/72, 1/48 then a few 1/16. Not be all over the place like they are now 1/144, 1/72, 1/48, 1/52, 1/650, 1/700, 1/1000, 1/1400, 1/2500, 1/4000 etc. It's really a mess and silly.

    • @tonygreenfield7820
      @tonygreenfield7820 4 месяца назад

      Although I agree entirely that it's a horrible design, it is based on an earlier concept for the Enterprise in an unmade movie that was to be called Planet Of The Titans. The saucer section in the Discovery version looks larger and has that twin ring frisbee look, but there is definitely a lot of commonality between the designs.
      Don't get me started on the ridiculous spinny rings and flip flopping "spore drive" though.
      I only watched Disco seasons 1 and 2 as I heard it was introducing the Enterprise for Strange New Worlds which at the time was getting some decent feedback.
      Then I watched SNW😢. Then I heard what SNW season 2 was like 🤮
      Still, the model looks good and I was impressed by the subtle appearance of the Aztec decals over the copper bronze paint scheme.
