I am seeing so much RWBY here too. Though maybe that’s because how much I love both Disney and RWBY. Heck a lot of the conflict in my fic is because of a natural fear of change and facing your demons. The bad guys are basically just a fun thing to show that our need to blame someone or thing or whatever manifests as a need for a villain or a need for an explanation. But when we’ve been rattled to our core and left with nothing? We have to keep moving forward to the next right thing

I think a lot of the time people decide whether they like a movie before they actually see it and then they decide whether the flaws are excusable or whether they ruin the movie. I honestly think there are very few films that have flaws that actually ruin the movie, and Frozen 2 is not one of them. I love it to bits, and its themes of change and grief are particularly relevant right now.

  • @LittleHobbit13

I feel that Kristoff's role felt odd because in a story about change, his role was to be a Constant™. His role didn't require an action, just existence. It's a passive but direct tie-in to Anna's theme of change. Anna has a bad history with change up to this point, as it's mostly resulted in losses (parents, sister, Olaf, Arendelle) but that's her lesson to learn: *Change isn't inherently loss.* She chose to let go of Kristoff, and then riding back to her his immediate next words are "What do you need?" Change didn't steal him away. He's still there and ready to support her. What can he do for Anna? What does she need from him in order to push forward? And then his other (completely sworn-worthy) line as she tries to apologize for leaving him "It's okay, my love's not fragile." It's a signal to Anna that she doesn't have to fear change anymore, that she can move forward and trust that who and what she loves can still be there on the other side.

Love the video, but one point I want to make:
Ok, so I feel the need to stick up for my man Kristoff because he and his arc are frequently misunderstood. My first couple of times watching it I didn't really understand but I started to get it after seeing the movie a third time.
So first, I think Kristoff feeling at times like he's in a different movie is entirely intentional because in his own mind he kind of is. To explain, Kristoff relates to the theme of change because he's naturally a deeply cynical character as we saw in the first film. He's cynical about humans and 'love' given that he was left with trolls in the first film. "Reindeer are better than people" is not just a funny little jingle, it's a look into how cynical he is about the complexities of human relationships.
In "Some Things Never Change" we see that he's optimistic but like Anna he's TOO optimistic. He has the warm fuzzy feelings about love, but he expects that the emotional high WILL NOT CHANGE. He even swapped out "better" in his jingle for "easier" showing why he thought reindeer were better. They're less complicated. He like Anna and Olaf have unrealistic expectations about the future. He expects, for example, that when he proposes to Anna everything's just going to fall into place. If Frozen 1 was dealing with Anna's unrealistic expectations about love, 2 deals with Kristoff's. He's placing his optimism in the warm fuzzies not going away.
To briefly (because this video is about change, not mental health) tie it into that other theme, Kristoff doesn't understand the issues Elsa and Anna have to deal with ("She seemed like Elsa"). He doesn't understand how paranoid Anna is on this journey about losing Elsa (Which is why he keeps trying to propose). He doesn't get that Anna CAN'T move forward in their relationship until she knows Elsa is 'ok'. Anna sees the situation as "Elsa is being targeted" but Kristoff sees it as "Elsa has powers so she'll be fine". That's why at the end of the movie when Anna acknowledges Kristoff and apologizes, he says "It's ok", showing that he NOW understands the mental roadblock Anna had to deal with.
Lost in the Woods is CRITICAL. It's basically Kristoff dealing with the idea that change in romantic relationships might mean that you lose the emotional high but that doesn't mean that the love is gone. He's thinking that he's tried to adapt and rise to the occasion and propose, but maybe they're too distant and it won't work. He's basically dealing with change in romantic relationships in an emotional sense, and I think it's an important lesson for people newly in love that love isn't just the warm fuzzy feelings you have at the start but you persevere despite not actively feeling that way. At the end of the movie, Kristoff has a much healthier perspective on love/romance from dealing with the complexities of change in relationships.

I would say that I like the themes and ideas of Frozen 2 like what you present in the video but it also feel the movie could have used one more rewrite so be unite that theme alot more closely. That kind of the issue with the frozen movies in general but I think it more apparent here. (like the idea of Anna being Queen is good in concept but felt like an "oh okay then" when it happened)
Also with the idea that Anna doesn't want things to change made me reammy wish they kept in the plotline of Kristoph being unhappy of being a lord but doesn't want to upset Anna, and Anna realizing that marriage not be the best idea for both of them (or some sort of compromise or not right now till they find what most happy for them). It fits really well to the narrative theme, keeps with Frozen's subverist tropes and gives Kristoph an more interesting dilemma then just trying to propose to Anna.

    • @carmillakarnstein8109
      @carmillakarnstein8109 4 года назад +11

Yes, the themes just don't work for this franchise, it contradicts previously stabilished canon, plus everything after they get into the forest feels glossed over.
I totally agree that the problem with frozen is that if you examine it closely, some things make you raise an eyebrow, but get to new levels in this one.
Really liked Thomas' point of view, but i don't think the ideas where implemented the right way.

    • @roiitzkovich4545

@@carmillakarnstein8109 How does it ruin established continuity? Is it because Elsa and Anna are not together anymore? They still are. Yes, they live in different places, but they meet each other frequently. It's like an adult leaving his parents's house but still visits them at times. It doesn't ruin established continuity, it ENHANCES it.
Is it because Elsa isn't a queen anymore? Being a queen is mostly a prize and less of a burden. You have plenty of people who do arrends for you and ministers who take responsibility of politics for you. If anything, Elsa leaving the throne makes things harder on her because living in a forest is less fancy. She left because Arendelle wasn't a place fitting her magical self. She limited herself to fit with others and it wasn't who she meant to be. Anna is more fitting the role of a queen because it doesn't make her hinder her true self for the throne. Is she hyper-active and sassy? Yes, but you could say that about plenty of Disney princesses who become queens. I can't remember the last time one of them faced earth giants to uncurse a forest. Moana facing Te-Ka was close, but Anna didn't have the ocean and a demi-god on her side.

Despite the flaws, this sequel still blew me away in theaters, but ever since, there's always that nagging feeling that there were still a lot of unanswered questions left to be addressed here, and the movie wasn't cohesive enough to answer them clearly.
While I was able to come up with my own reasonings, and also after watching others do the same and piecing clues from deleted scenes, what I like from this video is that you indeed addressed and elaborated the answers clearly to those questions I had: the core meaning behind Show Yourself, the thematic purpose of The Next Right Thing, the central message of change, why Elsa had to push Anna away midway into the story, and why Elsa decided to live in the North while Anna is installed as the next Queen.
If there is one way I would like to change something in the movie to make all these go cohesively better . . . is to extend the movie run into 2 hours. I know it might challenge the attention span of young vieweres but . . . this movie was never really meant for the young viewers in the first place. It was meant for the fans who grew up with the Frozen franchise. 😅 Frozen 2 as a 2-hour film would have given a lot of room to breathe while they tackle onto these deeper themes.

I have my problems with Frozen II. Could it have been done better? In some ways. Did I feel the pacing was fast? Yes. But I really love the overall theme of change, especially the ending. It shows that expectations and what makes a person comfortable and fear of change don't always meet reality. Elsa and Anna were in different places at the end of the film, and guess what, they were both OKAY. They didn't need to be codependent and be around one another all the time to have a bond or relationship. They could each go their own path and still be okay with where they were at in their lives and the roles they fulfilled. Frozen II is one of my main comfort movies. After seeing the original film with my mother (with who I no longer have a relationship) seeing Frozen II with my other members of my family, on my birthday, made it really special. The Frozen franchise will always be a huge comfort to me. It's even made me more interested in the process of animation overall. I just got the Frozen II art book and gallery special movie book for my birthday. Really loved your analysis.

Watching the behind the scenes/deleted content for Frozen II makes me feel like it runs in the opposite direction of its prequel. Frozen I clearly struggled in production, and you can kind of see that in how they take one "okay" idea during the production process (like Anna and Elsa having a song together early on) and eventually toss and/or polish it until it becomes a great idea in the movie itself (Elsa and Anna don't reunite until much later into the film). But Frozen II's deleted content makes me feel like the production team decided to (or maybe was executively "convinced" to) strip out some really neat ideas--stuff about Elsa and Anna's mom that makes her reappearance in Show Yourself less jarring, Anna proposing to Kristoff--into something much more conventionally palatable. I appreciate what Frozen 2 is trying to do, but I really don't feel like it stuck the landing.

  • @L3onking

I thought about what I wanted from this film and so I wrote out what I thought could be better,
Frozen 2 should have been about Elsa's grandmother a Northuldran enchantress who kept the spirits of nature at bay and she wanted peace with arrendale but their grandfather (king) betrayed her (head shaman) so she went to atahalen, and froze her body to seal off the forest so he cannot abuse the spirits.
When Elsa was born, Grandma's ice zombie saw the spirit of life leave the forest and when Elsa brought life to snow golems, it allowed her voice to leave otohalen as Aurora and since it is now a spectre who is only angry and vengeful towards arrendale, it was trying to lure Elsa (New arrendale queen) to the forest where it could take her body and be revived but the other spirits of nature were trying to dissuade Elsa from listening to the voice, pushing Anna away from the waters to atahalen so she doesn't get lured into the trap.
When Elsa finally thinks she found the voice, the river shows her the truth as she turns to ice and her body is lost to both her and the spectre but Anna breaking the damn/sign of betrayal, the spell that Freeing Elsa and Aurora from their fate setting up the movie for its final setting of Elsa an Anna and a new young enchantress technically their grandmother with the opportunity to teach Elsa how to use her powers as the new Head Shaman of the Northuldra, giving Anna and Kristoff the opportunity to unite Arrendale with the Trolls who looked after them while their monarch keep playing with magic.
As much as I like all the self empowering messages, I didn't think it was earned yet by Elsa
Since, she ran away, then was forced back to face love, accepted it, then put that love directly in harms away again with that canoe move. Elsa has not learned to communicate with her family what she is experiencing so they can actually do something for her which I thought would be a phenomenal 3rd film focus.
The 3rd Film could have brought in Rapunzel, Cassandra and Eugene. Since Raps is related, and with powers, learning from a good enchantress Grandmother with Elsa could echo the first film's sibling theme but with cousins (Insert Sailor Neptune/Uranus joke here). While allowing Kristoff to learn how to be suave with Eugene and Anna learning how to be more capable with Cassandra.
Honestly Disney so much missed opportunity here.

I’m so glad someone else loves this movie like I do. As a writer in progress, I am very aware of the many flaws the movie has, but that doesn’t change the experience for me. Could they have written the plot and characters better? Yes, but honestly I’m still happy with what we got. Frozen 2 presented a lot of serious themes like self identity, colonialism, and as you mentioned, change. In a sense, it’s a lot braver than the first film, which was mostly about subverting common fairytale tropes. Not to mention that the animation is GORGEOUS, and Show Yourself is one of the best Disney songs I’ve ever heard. Would I rewrite it? Of course, I’d do a lot of things differently. But I can safely say that this is one of my favorite Disney films in recent years. Loved your analysis and hope to see more from you soon. Stay safe! :)

Great video! As someone who is very inclined to just stay in my comfort zone, I also think it doesn't even have to be something that is taken from your life to make you wish to go back. We just grow as people and achieve things that at first seemed threatening to us. I was scared to leave school and to do my drivers licence but I accomplished all of that, something my past me would be awefully proud of (whyever I never really feel proud of myself in the present is beyond me). Now I'm scared of new things, so I think it will go on for a while that there is always a new challenge :'D of course in someway it still mostly is a yearning for lost things: the carelessness and lack of independence one could get away with as a child, the close contact with your friends in school...but when I learned anything important, though I always need to learn it again: we conquer the obstaces of life and move on. There are some things where I messed up but some of those I don't even regret because I took valuable experience from it and they make me who I am and to make it better next time. I only wish I would be more daring and just confront what I'm uncomfortable with instead of waiting until I simply have to deal with it. That way I would probably be faster in normalising what now seems daunting to me.

But 4:14 when this scene popped up, all four of us collectively went "...my old friend" and we had to keep ourselves from laughing out loud because there were actual kids in the theatre and we didn't want to be 'those guys' but good lord, did we have a good laugh coming out of that theatre

I didn't even realise that Frozen 2 was getting hate and negative comments... I saw it when I had a free trial of Disney+ for six months, and I LOVED IT! Definitely better than the first! Also, we had Alfred Molina as the voice actor of Anna and Elsa's Dad (I don't know how to spell his name, so I'm not even gonna try) at the beginning of the film. After seeing him as Viggo Grimborn in Race to the Edge, and the main villain in The Sorcerer's Apprentice (again, which I forgot the name of), he is one of my favourite actors. If you like Alfred Molina, AM, let me know!
P.S. Am I the only one who finds it ironic that in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Jay Baruchel, the voice actor of Hiccup in HTTYD, is the main protagonist, and Alfred Molina is the main antagonist of that film, and that film was released in 2010, BEFORE Race to the Edge. And then in Race to the Edge, Jay Baruchel is Hiccup, and Alfred Molina is Viggo Grimborn... so in Race to the Edge, their characters are fighting again. I'm not complaining, because I fucking love them both, both of their performances in both that film and Race to the Edge are phenomenal, (Jay's an ICONIC actor) but it's just ironic, isn't it?

Well, this is a frozen 2 praise video, but I didn't think it would be without pointing out a single flaw in this film. Frozen 2 tried too hard for changes that should've come around in about Frozen 4. Elsa's character back-pedalled into the post coronation stage, one moment she can't control things, then she can, then she can't again. I like Anna resisting further change because this change should persist. Ten years of isolation, after seven of which, they lost the king and queen, versus three of togetherness and...we need to change our lives again already? Elsa never asked Anna what she wanted, not even for her birthday for crying out loud, she just assumed things and was never questioned about any of her decisions. People called Anna dumb and criticized her all the time and Anna, the one character that calls Elsa out on anything is treated like the child who needs to grow up (STILL). Okay. And that gives Elsa the right to slide her off a hill and break her promise. Great. At the drop of a hat, she goes off to pursue magical adventures with a super convenient excuse this time, sings, gets a new outfit and is free. Again. Elsa never considers Anna an equal, and this is coming from someone who jams to Show Yourself on a regular basis.

I'm happy you liked the movie, and of course I respect that, but my own reaction was much more on a practical level then a message. For instance the whole "Don't run into the fire", yes I get the message of Elsa being able to deal with it while Anna can't, but on a practical level it's stupid, Elsa may be ice-goddess, but she still needs to breath, smoke can still hurt/kill her, she should never have stood in the middle of the fire trying to put it out, if the spirit was stonger she'd be dead from suffocation.

    • @roiitzkovich4545

Than what, she should've let the fire keep going and burn the entire forest?
As for strength, that exactly why the voice just started to call her to come to the forest now. It waited until her powers are strong enough to face the dangers in the forest. It was told that her powers grow stronger as time passes so it makes sense. That's why she was able to face the fire spirit.

Elsa has a natual gift and it needed to grow strong enough to enter the forest. She was made for this job.
      2. Elsa was trapped in the middle if the fire. She later escaped from it and chased the fire spirit untrapped. If she was trapped when the ambush started than it must mean that she tried to get out. She didn't want to be trapped inside the fire (I don't think ANYONE wants to). She was trapped because she cooled down fire for others to escape first, but than found herself at a corner.
      3. It's actually quite professional and doesn't feel that fanfictiony for me. Following up the first movie with more magical beings was a good way to expand upon the magic of the world, learning the reasons for things to happen the way they did in the first movie was a smart way to progress the plot (which Schaffrillas explained that's necessary in a sequal) and the settings are fitting for this kind of story.

For all it's saccharine silliness, cheesy choruses, and even it's hypocrisy, this kind of entertainment has always spoken to me.
It isn't about associating with people or working in a team. It's about being genuine. The kind of people who've acted like I need to fit in have invariably been good at socializing and cooperating, but poor at making friends.
I was never able to connect with or trust people around me because I didn't feel that I was genuine or trustworthy. It left me without a leg to stand on in anything I ever attempted.
It's that sense of openness that I denied myself that I find valuable above all things in other people: a kind of courage derived from a deep inner compassion and honesty. "A deep respect for the facts."
If others are too forceful or too appeasing, I lose interest and suspect them of having ulterior motives.
Sounds cryptic, but we all knows this quality when we see it. It's in the kind of person you go to because you know you won't be talked down to. The kind of person who is with life instead of against it. Someone who's in the know.

Frozen 1 is average and as a whole put my opinion an expectation down there over the Dark Sea. I don't hate the 1st at all, I get the hype over the song and all but it isn't something that I will remember time to time to tell my grandchild or something. It is good in its time.
The 2nd were.... surprisingly better in paper. It was like shooting a 3 points on basket out of coincidence. As the video pointed out, the character arcs were way better than the classic Disney that is the 1st that would have ended as one movie. So the Frozen 2 finally gave this series its own identity outside of being a Disney-fied Ice Queen fairytale with lots of alteration. In that way, the movie is a good one and outside of my expectation of what I honestly think as 'Frozen stuff'. But at surface level as the 'critics' loves to look at (I don't believe Critics anymore after they review MMORPG only by playing first 30 minutes of the game) there are places that Frozen 2 lacks at, a lot happened in the span of one movie so not everyone is smart enough to follow. It is a movie that beckon you to think over its layer of story to the point that the viewer can be seen as overthinking stuff. A good movies with these types of setting needed... special care. Frozen 2 is lacking at this special care stuff so majority of fans didn't get it and throws bone to those who don't really care too much but watch it for some reason. Personally, Frozen 2 is a weird experience.

If you were a fan of the first Frozen film, and kept up to date with the shorts and maybe even non-canon content, you would understand as clearly as many Frozen fans do just how many things the sequel contradicted in previous stories.
The movie works better as its own thing, separate from other Frozen content. But as a Frozen sequel, absolutely not. Elsa has always belonged in Arendelle, she's always been good and comfortable in the role of Queen, it's evident ever since she thawed the kingdom. That's literally THE POINT of Elsa in Frozen 1, that she sees how much she *needs* other people, especially her family in Anna, to control her magic at all. She sees that being away from Anna has been her downfall all along. She needs people, she's at her best with love. Plus, being Queen suits her personality as a regal, intellectual, and graceful woman, far more so than the clumsy and impulsive Anna. (Who everyone always claims would be better as Queen, since she's a people person more than Elsa is, as if that's the only thing a Queen should be good at? More than like... running the kingdom?) Frozen 2 does literally nothing to explain why Elsa would feel discomfort in the role or more fulfillment living in a forest where she is utterly superfluous and out of place.
Elsa sends Anna away because she's learned absolutely nothing about letting Anna in. That scene is tragic, she's not "doing what must be done", she's breaking her promise and making decisions for her sister. "Protecting her by sending her away" like she did for thirteen years locked in the castle, rather than working as a team. The movie expects me to believe that nothing has changed in Elsa, deep down. She'll still separate herself from Anna, and always will, when the going gets rough. Nobody expects Anna to fight a water horse, we expect Anna to help her sister in a creative and unexpected way. She's not "clinging" to Elsa just by being concerned that Elsa's going to kill herself, she's being a girl who loves her sister and is worried by Elsa's bizarre habit of jumping into death-defying situations. Anna isn't "holding Elsa back" by saying "now isn't the best time to start a fight with gigantic rock monsters who could flatten you with one slip-up" or by basically telling her "I never want to keep you from what you want, I just want to help you get there" as she does in the shipwreck scene. It almost seems to me like you enjoyed that scene where Elsa sends Anna away because you don't remember that Elsa choosing to not shut Anna out and work as a team was the payoff of her arc in Frozen 1 and something she's continuing to improve on in all future stories. But Frozen 2 throws all that into the trash because of one dangerous situation that Elsa again must take upon herself because she thinks her sister can't do anything.
The Show Yourself revelation WOULD have been good if it actually required some manner of emotional trial or growth where Elsa has her ideas challenged or proven wrong in some way, like Anna's were. Instead, Elsa gets everything she ever hoped for and all her wishes come true for no reason other than that she traveled far enough to find them. The line "She doesn't need external validation", as you put it, is hilariously ironic in this scene given that Elsa would never have felt validated if not for Ahtohallan handing it all to her on a platter. A *good* storyline for Elsa would've been that she was certain she was destined for greatness because of her magic, but when she arrives at Ahtohallan, nothing of the sort is true. It would've been great if Elsa had to learn that she isn't any more special than the next person, that her magic is an accident, that it is what she makes it. That the magic is merely an extension of herself and her future is not dependent on it. Instead, she learns that she's the super-duper special sister who has this great destiny and can do anything and she's the mostest perfectest Snow Queen evah who will save the world. Then she immediately gets herself killed and Anna cries alone in a cave all night long after Olaf dies in her arms. And Elsa never apologizes for anything or acknowledges that she ever once committed a hint of wrongdoing or had a momentary lapse in judgement while Anna is bawling in her arms. She expects Anna to just automatically forgive and forget everything out of relief that she's alive, and she's right, since Anna is the best sister of all time, so Elsa luckily doesn't have to worry about facing any sort of responsibility for her mistakes and the absolute torture she put Anna through. Wonderful sister you are, Elsa.
Elsa was ALREADY happy in Arendelle (the writers said it outright in an interview, as if it isn't ridiculously obvious in canon), she ALREADY accepted who she was (watch Frozen), and she NEVER had to hold anything back after thawing Arendelle (see Frozen, Frozen Fever, Olaf's Frozen Adventure, any other Frozen story before F2). And there's absolutely zero evidence that Arendelle wasn't the place for her. The forest doesn't work for Elsa because the only part of her it fits with is the magical part. Which is only one aspect of an entire person. Elsa's personality doesn't belong there. Her demeanor doesn't belong. She's lived in a castle her whole life. Had servants and fancy outfits and that's what *works* with a woman so reserved, regal, and--uh--clean? No, she doesn't belong in the enchanted forest, and anyone claiming so only thinks that because it's as magical as she is. But Elsa is a person first and foremost. And she needs her sister more than anything else. And she should *want* to be with her sister after EVERYTHING they've experienced together and apart. It's the most natural and satisfying conclusion Frozen should have.
Anna has done everything for Elsa and is genuinely the best sister she could hope to have. For Elsa to make this decision is not only OOC, but utterly disrespectful, given the free-spirited sister who literally sang an entire song about how overjoyed she was to leave the castle in Frozen 1 now has to manage Elsa's old job in it. I'm still baffled so many people think the decisions in this movie made sense in the larger story of Frozen.

I strongly disagree for many reasons:
      1. Elsa is in the forest now because her and Anna are the bridge between humanity and magic. Anna lives in Arendelle, a modern society (symbolizing humanity), while Elsa lives with the Northuldra and spirits (symbolizing magic). Also, it's very clear that Elsa has a strong "magical" connection to the forest. In the first scene in the forest she says: "This forest is beautiful", while everyone else is like "ehhhhhhhhhh"? Sure it's pretty, but is it THAT worth noting? For Elsa, it does, because she sees something in the forest we "unmagical entities" don't. She's far more attracted to it than us in a way we can't understand. It's also a place with other magical entities like her, and Ahtohallan, which is the source of her powers. There are plenty reasons as to why she'll feel like her place is in the forest.
      2. Elsa isn't abandoning anyone. In the forest, there are other people. It's not like Frozen 1, where she abandons anyone and lives in The North Mountain alone. Here, she's moving elsewhere, but is still surronded by people. She no longer fears her powers so the point of Frozen 1 was not forgotten. She's still visiting Anna in Arendelle every once in a while for a game of charades. The point of this movie is to adapt to change. The 2 sisters need to learn to live afar from each other.
      3. Anna is maturing. She'll learn in time to be a better leader figure. She's more social than Elsa, so her communication with the town's people is better, but she also won't be an impulsive child forever. The 3rd act shows how far she has come. A few guiding lessons, a few tips from Elsa and eventually Anna will become a better queen than Elsa could've ever been. Again... CHANGE!
      4. You said "nobody expects Anna to fight a water horse". To counter your argument: ANNA RAN INTO FIRE TO GET ELSA OUT OF THERE AND NEARLY SUFFOCATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elsa didn't abandon Anna for the same reason she did in Frozen 1. In the first movie, she abandoned Anna because she considered HERSELF dangerous. In the second movie, she had every right to consider Anna hopeless (after what happened with the fire spirit) and she abandoned her because of OTHER DANGEROUS FORCES (AKA NOT HERSELF). What do you think would've happened if Elsa let Anna and Olaf follow her to The Dark Sea? Anna would've seen Elsa getting crushed by huge waves and the water horse and would've told her "STOP DON'T KILL YOURSELF". Anna would've prevented Elsa from reaching Ahtohallan. Worse than that, imagine Anna jumping in (like what she did when the fire spirit attacked) and trying to help, only to be a burden to Elsa, resulting in the 2 of them dying because Elsa can barely defend herself so defending the 2 of them will be a death sentense.
Elsa didn't like pushing Anna and Olaf away. She knows it's not a good thing. But bringing them with her to The Dark Sea will be a MUCH worse decision.
      5. The way you described Elsa "She is happy in Arendelle and that's where she belongs" proves that you are just as bad as anyone in Arendelle. You give yourself the right to decide what's right for her because that's what you want.
So to counter that, you ice-queen-selfish boy, maybe, during all these shorts that show how much she adores being together with her kingdom, she hid the feelings of not-belonging within. Maybe, because of selfish people like you, she didn't give herself the right to express herself, and was forcing herself to be the elegant queen the town's people expected her to be. That's what Into The Unknown is for. It shows her confronting those inner feelings she ignores, but the voice calling her reminds her she can't do this forever. At first she rejects the voice because she wants to keep her good life in Arendelle, acknowledging that she loves being in Arendelle and that's where she should be (or at least that's what others LED HER to think), but eventually she accepts those inner feelings of incompleteness. She knows that, for as good of a life she has on Arendelle, it's just not what's right for her.
In Show Yourself, Ahtohallan told her to embrace herself and that she can be whatever she wants. Ahtohallan didn't validate her, it gave her the freedom to validate herself. That's partly why she stayed in the forest (the place she realizes fits her persona better). Obviously, it's also because of the whole "her and Anna are the bridge" thing I explained in point 1.
      6. Before you jump into conclusions that Elsa is a horrible sister for throwing all of her responsibilities onto Anna, please remember 2 things:
      A. "The spirits all agreed, Arendelle deserves to stand, with you. You did what was right for everyone". After Anna let the giants to destroy the dam, she essentially passed the test they conducted. She proved to them that the Arendellians are good people and deserve forgiveness, hence why they spared Arendelle. However, to make sure Arendelle is in good hands, a worthy leader must step in. Anna, who did what was right for everyone, IS that person. Elsa, who knows she has other responsibilities now (the protector of the forest and it's magic), accepts that Anna is a worthy queen and that the spirits made the right choice.
      B. This might vary from person to person, but... I mean... have you seen Anna's face when she was a queen? She seems like the happiest person alive. Being the queen gives her immense joy. You might argue: "But than you are doing the very thing you complained I was saying on Elsa. You give yourself the right to decide what's right for Anna without knowing for sure if being a queen is what she wants". And to that I say... Frozen 3 was just announced, so wait until than so we can see whether or not Anna is happy to be a queen.

      @@roiitzkovich4545 Cool, here's my response.
      1. You’re using a lot of examples of behavior from Frozen 2 to justify Frozen 2. Saying “she acts happy there” isn’t a good argument. The writers made this all happen to portray their direction for the film. To convince audiences that this is where she should stay. But up until we learned these things existed, nobody in their right mind would’ve suggested that Elsa shouldn’t stay in Arendelle for the rest of her life. Because she was clearly happy there and had no reason to ever want to leave, and it made sense. The writers could just as easily have made Elsa look nervous or uncertain like Anna in that scene, and you'd be here saying, "See? She doesn't like the forest!" It would only make sense if Elsa were a real person who really did these things, instead of some writer in a Hollywood office pitching an idea for how she *might* act.
      2. Surrounded by people? There’s a tribe of natives who she’s never met until now. In Arendelle exists literally everybody she knows and loves. There’s no comparison there. In any case, post-movie content all but confirms that Elsa doesn’t even live with the Northuldra. They’re just sorta “in the same vicinity” as her daily activities take place. And now that they’re free, the Northuldra hardly have need for Elsa. At least not long-term. I’m not sure why you thought this was a good point. The point of Frozen 1 has to do with her embracing *love,* and understanding she *doesn’t need to run away* to live as her true self. That being amongst her family and friends actually *is* exactly what she needs. And that's a beautiful message, but Frozen 2 suggests the exact opposite: That she’s magical, and this is why living amongst other magical creatures is the most desirable path to happiness. That her humanity comes second, her natural desires that blossom through life are not to be prioritized over the magical destiny that requires her presence. It’s laughable and insulting. I don’t really understand why you think I should feel comforted to know Elsa sees her sister “every once in a while”-explicitly to play charades-like that’s supposed to feel special. Their sisterhood is the entire story. Getting together once a week to play a game? So what? Why should I care about a once-a-week game night, if the soul of Frozen is meant to be *Anna and Elsa?* Does that feel like the “together” Elsa promised at the reunion? And yes, I very well understand the point of the movie. They “need to adapt to change” which somehow translates to distant living situations. Even if the claim that they “need” to learn to live apart (for whatever reason), we’re not talking about “learning to live apart”. We’re talking about where Elsa will live *for the rest of her life.* If it’s absolutely imperative that the sisters learn to be separated for a long while (which they don't, because it's never been a cause for concern), then fine. But why should that mean that Elsa stays there forever?
      3. I’ve heard the line about Anna’s social skills a million times and it still doesn’t interest me. She’s acted on her emotions ever since Frozen 1, and the 3rd act of Frozen 2 was no different. She haphazardly fell the dam and doomed her kingdom to destruction, unknowing that Elsa would save it. Without a moment’s forethought as to whether any better solution could possibly exist to protect her homeland, the way a Queen should. To keep this bit brief, I am doubtful that Anna could prove to be a better Queen than Elsa, because Elsa is comparatively analytical, poised, and regal, while Anna is mostly happy-go-lucky, free-spirited, and acts on instinct. Like their personalities were swapped, as many fans who dislike Frozen 2 tend to point out.
I feel like that's something I should emphasize. You know that there is a *lot* of Frozen that occurred before the sequel, don't you? Like... even more than just the two movies. There are shorts. Books. Comics. Many, many Frozen stories that (while not all hard canon) fans have read and absorbed for years before Frozen 2. The movie fails to consider the bulk of these prior stories, even the short films (which are absolutely canon). The established personalities and behaviors of the girls are what I'm considering here. Not the self-contained claims of Frozen 2.
      4. Yes, Anna acted on an emotional impulse because Elsa was surrounded by flames in an attempt to solve a problem by herself. There was no communication, no precautions, and no plan. Even being an extremely powerful wielder of ice, Elsa still put herself in a dangerous position without a word to Anna. I don’t know what would’ve happened if they went to the Dark Sea together-but if I were the writer, I would’ve crafted a scenario in which Anna and Elsa formulate a strategy together, *before* Elsa makes a move against the Nokk. And if I must keep the scene in which Anna runs into fire, then for this scene, I would probably make Elsa conjure a long wall of ice or some other mechanism that would prevent Anna from rushing into the ocean. Even if Elsa can't bring herself to trust Anna's judgement, she can still trust Anna's advice and ideas. And even if Anna can’t directly act to battle an entity of supernatural elemental power, it’s ridiculous to say she can’t still *help* Elsa in some way. Creativity is a wonderful thing, and character progression is a good time to use it. Anna and Elsa are meant to be a team - and Frozen 2 is meant to focus on how they do things together. Not one single thing is done in this movie by both sisters together. Everything is done separately, and it fucking sucks.
Gonna continue this in a second reply because RUclips won't let me put it in one.

I’m GOING to be THAT comment. I didn’t like the movie. I’m gonna be honest. It was IDK. Boring almost. The songs happened so quickly it didn’t give me time to digest (I didn’t say I didn’t love the songs I did). But it felt so-IDK. Rushed almost. Maybe my standards for Disney have heightened because of these stupid live actions so now I’m like, “Y’all have no excuse to NOT give me perfection” or maybe, maybe this movie isn’t my cup of tea story wise. Either way: glad you enjoyed it. Probably won’t watch Frozen 3 unless they plop my boy Hans and his backstory in there. But all I’m saying is: I’m more hyped for Zootopia II coming in 21 or 23. Thanks for reading my comment-BYEEEE. ☺️❤️❤️

I personally had major issues with the second film. While the story was better, the execution of the music made it incredibly hard to rewatch. I hate to admit it, but while the first film was enhanced by the singing, likely due to how barebones the story was and how "oo pretty voices" can distract from the flaws of the movie, in the second one they are very much in the way. Not all of them, mind you, but off the top of my head Kristoffs stopped the movie cold pacing wise and the one where Anna is realizing what needs to be done the music is also kind of in the way- while emotional it would have hit harder without a song being crow-barred in there, and it felt like the music went too long while if it were her figuring things out without the music, done well, it could have avoided the issue of feeling too long.
Overall, I prefer the story and emotional beats but it feels like they wanted the music to be as big and memorable as the first movie and it really just stood in the way of a much better considered story. I feel icky admitting that I liked the first because of the music primarily, and only dislike the second to the degree I do due to their attempt to over-rely on music like the first film. Whats more, some specific story beats and character moments like Anna being made queen could have benefited from the time taken by the music to give the girls a heart to heart, for example. Another rewrite without "there needs to be music" in mind could have gone a long way.
Not saying some numbers, like the one where Anna is holding onto hope things wont change while being proven wrong, cant work and dont work, but its clear that there is a heavy reliance on it where it actively takes from the film overall. I must respectfully disagree with your preference here, but due to how both handled their respective stories I very much understand why you prefer the second over the first, and would agree if the songs didnt repeatedly take me out of the story quite jarringly.

I hated the first movie, like a lot, but I saw this movie twice in theaters and love it so much. It's a wonderful story that actually has ideas and pulled them off better.
Next right thing is the best song of the book, hands down, but I get why you can't push it like into the unknown with how spoilers rific it is.
I do feel Elsa screws up even as she does what she needs to, she would have killed Anna with how she stopped her from crossing the ocean if things had gone a little bit different. I ended the movie glad Elsa wasn't queen with how lose a cannon she was.
Also I continue to go "let Elsa be ace" but that's me 🤷

While I can understand and respect several of you’re points about the movie. There are also more than a few fair criticisms about it that are also true.
Christoph’s role was unneeded. Olaf stole the spotlight and several scenes in the most annoying and aggravating way possible. I mean Olaf’s last words were about Turtles can breath threw there butt. Couldn’t even die with dignity. And Elsa’s last minute save of the kingdom made the previous deep thought and choice Anna made both meaningless and was only there so Disney could seem deep without having to go threw with it. Really had the story just focused on Anna and Elsa it would have been so much better.
But the visuals, and singing were good and when it just focused on Anna and Elsa it was a good story.

    • @roiitzkovich4545
      @roiitzkovich4545 4 года назад +3

Dude, those weren't Olaf's last words. He was sad about being flurried away and told Anna that she has to continue by herself. He said "Turtles can breath through their butts" before finding an exit from the cave. When Olaf died in the first movie he was still joking. He said that this was his happiest day, and his last. Olaf dies with much more dignity in the second movie than in the first.
Also, if Elsa didn't save Arendelle than it would make the spirits look like assholes. They got what they wanted (to break the dam so it won't harm the forest anymore), so allowing the wave to destroy a town where plenty of innocent people live in and leave them homeless will make them evil for not trying to save them. The magical spirits can literally bend any kind of water so what kind of excuse can be for not stopping the wave? It's undeserved.

Personally I’m really meh about the film. It’s not the worst one out there, it just could have been much better maybe with scrapped ideas and another rewrite. I know the creators were extremely rushed by disney to get it out by the due date not giving them room to breathe but still. I feel their theme is “change is good” does come across and I agree with that theme, everyone goes through change! But I feel there are aspects on it that just didn’t sit right with me. I guess mainly the relevance of characters like Anna, the tribe, the general/soldiers, and especially kristoff. Kinda got second hand embarrassment from kristoff’s song, but literally that whole group I mentioned feel kinda shadowed out by Elsa when this is a story about the sisters supporting one another. Yes they don’t ALWAYS have to be together but I feel the way they went about it didn’t feel...natural? I dunno I don’t think Anna should have had the BIGGEST role since this is Elsa finding herself but she should had shown to at least be important. Kristoff’s side story to me is pointless, I feel they could have done something with Anna and him talking about it seriously and how anna might not feel comfortable with change and kristoff tells her it’s normal since he changed for the better since meeting anna. That way it gives more relevance and character growth to the both of them and personally a better song that “Lost in the woods” (if you like that song I totally respect that but I just really don’t like it)
I feel the tribe and soldiers should have had more screen time in the movie, ngl I kinda forgot they existed when they were done with them nor did they show us the true conflict with the two groups. I feel the story behind it is interesting and if done right can work out but I feel they showed off their ‘so many years battle’ off as a joke of sorts. I feel the lore with the elements is clunky all together cause Elsa is just solid water pretty much, but I do kinda like the things they added to her character feeling she wants to feel like she belongs since growing into adults we all kinda have that experience. Again I kinda like the movie but feel like I’m disconnected with the characters more than before. I felt closest to Anna personally from the first movie, and felt bad for her in this one when she felt scared and alone and pushed away from her sister again when she promised they’d help each other. Which kinda emphasizes Anna was kinda useless in this movie but I still love her.
If you read it all thanks for putting up with my little ramble, I had more to say but didn’t wanna make it too long or too mean sounding just wanting to say my personal thoughts on what they should had worked on with the characters. I don’t hate the frozen series, it’s just my least favorite atm 💙

For me Frozen is just one big overrated badly made story. Only thing they got correctly is that love is not neccesarry and that it can be dangerous and that even if everything seems perfect you might just not fit and need something else.
But, parents who tell their child to just, not feel emotions? When mother knows about magic, we learn in season 2? When Elsa didn't cause the accident by emotions but Anna being... Anna? Elsa running away into nowhere and creating an empty castle? Imo ending of first part was just rushed. Once Elsa has a mental breakdown and then she realises out of nowhere that love is an asnwer and with first try she just undos everything. Second part was mixed feelings of interesting concept mixed with annoying to crazy extend Anna, which is so scared of losing Elsa that she literally jumps into death near situations and Kristoph being mistreated by his girlfriend and this pointless whole arc, I want to propose, in worst moments and Anna being blind to it. That wasn't funny.
Animation was beautiful, concept was good. Execution was often horrible.

There’s a lot to like about this film, but I’d feel more confident saying this was a REALLY good film if it were the first in the series somehow. I mean, Show Yourself is a super good and emotional sequence and I love the song to bits, but remember, it’s coming from a parent who isolated Elsa away from everyone. She was raised to feel ashamed and afraid of her powers, afraid of *herself*, practically all of her life and now I’m supposed to believe that the memories of her mother are suddenly SO supportive now? With the backstory of the first Frozen, it just doesn’t cut it for me.
That and the fact that Elsa is a lily white privileged queen presumably ruling/guiding/heavily influencing a tribe of Indigenous people that she does NOT resemble at all despite the fact that she’s descended from them pretty closely. Also kinda puts a damper on the whole pay reparations to the people you caused massive suffering to :’)

This movie would’ve been perfect if they had just changed two things.
    1. Just pull a Thor: Ragnarok and destroy Arendelle with an “Arendelle is the people, not the place” message, it would strengthen Anna’s decision to break the dam while knowing that it would destroy Arendelle, which they almost do but Elsa just swoops in and saves the day. They evacuated Arendelle anyway so it’s all just material loss, material that the movie explicitly tells us was gained from oppressing an entire foreign culture.
    2. Write Kristoff out of the story, like yeah I like him as much as the next person but man is he inconsequential to the story and whenever the movie cuts to him the actual plot has to grind to a complete halt while it focuses on his frankly boring personal drama. His musical number, while kind of funny, is just a complete time waste. Give him something else to do, like, make him in charge of keeping the kingdom’s citizens safe off-screen or something while the sisters go off to solve the issue.

Arendelle existed before it's residents met the Northuldra. Arendelle wasn't built by stealing from the Northuldra. The new generation of Arendellians did nothing to deserve their hometown to be destroyed. Sure, they were evacuated and could've rebuilt the town, but re-creating an entire town isn't something you accomplish in a second. It can take months or even years. The Arendellians don't deserve such punishment. Think of the children living without houses. King Runeard is guilty indeed, but he died a long time ago so he got his punishment. Punishing innocents isn't fair.
In Thor Ragnarok, the current generation of Asgardians were led by Odin, who's very clearly guilty for the sins Hela is trying to make up for. If the Asgardians had tried to appologize to Hela and compensated to her for Odin's mistakes, than it will pure them from Odin's sins, but instead they kept on fighting her, which means they aren't much better than Odin. That's why in Thor Ragnarok the destruction of Asgard was fair.
The Arendellians didn't deserve to have their town destroyed. It's like as if I had discovered that my grandfather had killed an entire tribe and I have to destroy my house to make up for it. Of course I wouldn't. It won't bring these people back to life or will help to anyone. The whole task was to destroy the dam. The destruction of Arendelle is simply a consequence for that. Anna didn't have the intention of destroying her hometown to free the forest.
