He makes the show better. There’s just something more appealing about a boy who lost his father to a curse and had to atone for it and go through the best development than a show about hair and rocks and a typical conflict of jealously between friends. Don’t get me wrong, the show was....okay, but I live for characters like Varian. Disney princesses are all just common, there’s plenty of them and there will be more in the future, but I want more characters like Hiro, Varian, Violet, Mulan and other characters.
I'm Ready As I'll Ever Be to watch this (There, I fufilled my promise, BE HAPPY!!!) But seriously I'm in the same boat feeling surprisingly happy with this show, we're not in the age of episodic tv series or meh to awful direct-to-dvd sequels but having such a strong film like Tangled be turned into a series felt like a cash grab idea and nothing more. But damn, EFFORT!!! Honest to god EFFORT!!! That's all I needed and we got even more with the gorgeous animation, charming characters and freaking ear-worm tracks that still are stuck in my head. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch some animatics myself.
I'm glad you all enjoyed the show-I came in with a lot of cynicism but walked out so surprised. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the episodic format. Even those types of episodes are incredibly done with a lot of good moral lessons children and adults alike should learn (Though Cassandra is best girl in my eyes and Rapunzel kind of not being a good friend is completely in character for her in her current state of mind she's in right now)
I feel bad that Rapunzel gets this reputation of being a bad friend to Cassandra because I feel a lot of her failure to meet Cassandra's emotional needs is do to her fucked up life with Mother Gothel isolating her, her whole life. Cassandra was justified in her feelings of feeling like Rapunzel didn't listen to her enough or take her counsel seriously (because she didn't sometimes) but I feel like Cassandra sometimes didn't take into consideration often enough Rapunzel's life situation and how that may have affected her ability to read between the lines with people. Especially people like Cassandra who keeps her feelings close to her chest the way that she does.
Funnily enough, a friend of mine saw a gif of Cassandra being Cassandra on Twitter and immediately recognized the Big Gay Energy as well. She HAS that power. Also "Ready As I'll Ever Be" OC animatics was my gateway back to the series after I accidentally dropped it because television animation is hard to keep up with nowadays. This was a fun review to watch! Felt like an excellent recap of what S1 had to offer and what the show has to offer. I found the series first few episodes a fun time even without having a huge attachment to the original movie and know it only got better. Hopefully, I'll be able to tackle the series again in due time.
I mean, the content these two have is pretty unique. But a lot of the channels that do analysis and discussions have become almost absurdly negative, with the comments sections of those often being legit hate filled vitriol spewing cesspools. And all the shit about Vic's contract not being renewed due to allegations has really seemed to have brought out the worst in the community, and the comments are worse on those channels. Lots of vitriol and accusing Vic's accusers of being liars out for money before any evidence in either direction was presented. Shit is toxic enough that I'm strongly considering completely withdrawing from the RWBY fan community.
@@brucealmighty3268 Yes, well done spelling it out in case anyone was confused. I hope you don't really feel the need to leave the RWBY fandom entirely though. I think Thomas, Cal (and Hunter) are leading the way in how to keep it positive, keep it queer, and NOT spew unfounded opinions on serious real life situations or pretend like it's your role to conduct an investigation for views. Just stay over here on their channels with me, and we'll be fine and can keep having fun loving RWBY together!
Perhaps so. I just don't get the level of obsession those channels have with playing armchair journalist, but I've seen ones I like turn to that, and the comments are just circle jerks of what the person running the channel is espousing, with a mixture of right wing buzzwords like mindlessly calling people they disagree with SJWs, snowflakes and NPCs in a very unironic manner. And so many in the comments are trying to tie it into this leftist conspiracy to disparage liberals in general, and I don't even think the channnels themselves are doing much to discourage a lot of that activity. Like I'm a super political person, but if there is one place I want a break from that it's here. And it comes on the heels of people seemingly looking for any reason to rip into RWBY and RT. People saying Bumblebee (Which is not completely confirmed. ) is being shoved down our throats, that it's forced, and that Adam was killed as a sacrifice to those shippers. But they seemingly have far lessba problem with equally bad to okay written (Keep it real, the writers don't excel at romance writing, and RWBY isn't about romance to begin with.) straight ships in the show, just don't imply they are even slightly homophobic or they blow up on you and melt like snowflakes themselves. I get criticism of the show, give me an hour and I can completely deconstruct the show and shred it's flaws to bits. So I'm no fanboy. But a lot that I've seen, if it isn't flat out made up, is taking things out of context and hyperbolic to the extreme. And don't get me started on the personal attacks on Miles and Kerry, with people using Monty as a prop to attack them, from fight choreography to the LGBT moments ( Ironically something Monty said he was all for.) to anything else that displeases them. If Monty were alive, sure there are things he's likely change, but I'm definitely sure he wouldn't stand for the idea of people using his death as a prop to attack his friends and coworkers. I do think I will largely still disengage from the official RT forums (Were it's the same small group going around and around after each other. ) and most channels, as its nearly impossible to have a civil conversation without someone slinging mud and turning it into a flame war. But I might well hang around the more balanced channels that understand constructive criticism is essential, yet are are aware that it's not healthy to engage in 24/7 negativity.
@@brucealmighty3268 Yeah, I feel you. I pretty much agree on all the points you made, and I understand the desire to rant about it. And I'm usually very active in RUclips comments, but a glance through the comments on those earliest Vic vids (haven't watched most of them because again, they don't deserve my views) just confirmed for me that those channels aren't a space I want to be in anymore. In Rapunzel's defense, she was not allowed to leave Corona and help Varian because there was a supernatural blizzard threatening the Kingdom and with the King and Queen missing, Rapunzel was in charge. She wanted to help her friend, but was forced to stay in Corona to lead her people. I like the show and felt bad as Varian fell to the Dark Side.
Yeah but my problem with that is that 1. she threw him into the blizzard 2. She never went to see if he was okay after the blizzard. 3. Like omg remember the episode with Atila one of the thugs she tried SO HARD To prove that he was innocent and not sent to jail. But couldn't pay Varian a visit.
Yes but after Queen for A Day, she practically forgot him and did nothing to help him for several episodes until the last 3 episodes of the season. That's honestly a dick move and really out of character for her.
@@NektisNoir She didn't forget him. *IT'S EVEN WORSE THAN THAT* she did mention Varian at the end of the episode, and mentiones him later on on the evil zhan-tiri teacher episode and I cannot with the idea that she remembers but simply push away. I got to say that I am glad you mentioned how it seemed out of character for Rapunzel to wait to go see Varian after the storm, it genuinely felt like she was avoiding him on purpose because she didn't want to deal with his... situation...his anger? I don't know. Granted I feel she had a right to feel overwhelmed and wary of going to see Varian, but it still felt, based off of what kind of person Rapunzel is, like this isn't something she would not have done with anyone else. I am not sure why it was written that way, and the fact that it gets glossed over completely in the story...I got to say low key taxes my good will towards this particular plot thread.
I only tuned into a few episodes so getting a full idea of what the series is was nice. I didn't even know there was an an overarching plot. Even without that I really enjoyed the episodes I saw. Great vid :D
"Untang... I'll see myself out" was such a Mermista moment! Yes previous derivative series were episodic, but there's been such a shift in recent decades toward serialised storytelling, they're really only just being dragged along by the times. I also was pleasantly surprised by it. Season 3 has epic payoff. And I've never gotten "Nothing Left To Lose" out of my head.
"Best romance in any Disney movie" I too am a fan of Cassunzel (I'm kidding, the series made my love New Dream, even though the extreme heteronormativity of the premise where I'm supposed to onboard with the literal second human being she's ever met making the moves on her within 48 hours made me not a fan in the film)
I felt the series was AMAZING! I haven’t seen any other Disney Channel shows aside the Proud Family or Emperor’s New School because I only got ABC Kids unfortunately. But I seriously love how Tangled managed to weave in both slice of life and an overlapping bigger story kinda like Winx Club. I really love how each character does mature, especially obviously Rapunzel from being a tad clueless to becoming very determined/headstrong but kind, compassionate and ultimately loves and truly cares for everyone in her kingdom except maybe Monty lol. I also really love Flynn (sorry I can’t call him Eugene) how he truly proves he wants to become a better person for Rapunzel and a future worthy king despite being a renowned thief. Overall I also really love how the show tended to go into PG 13 territory with some more mature themes instead of making it for toddlers like Dora the Explorer or Winx Club S7 🙄 But yes the artstyle I really love how it’s meant to replicate Rapunzel’s style from the movie but it doesn’t look corny or tacky even in more serious moments. But agreed Rapunzel and Flynn undoubtedly have the most beautiful romance and are my favorite Disney couple along with Pocahontas and John Smith, f*cking fight me. Overall pretty much everything about the series is amazing, still bummed unfortunately Rapunzel’s hair reverts back to how it was in the end in the original. I think one of my favorite parts was in certain episodes especially in S3 they tended to reuse/reference parts of the movie making it so ironic and funnier without it looking cheap or tacky because it was in the movie
With the songs given their praise now that the finale is done. I’d like to share my top ten favorite songs from the series. Guys this was a pretty hard list so, Please know this is in my opinion so if you disagree and I’ll share why I like them. Oh a bit of a SPOILER WARNING FOR THE ENTURE SERIES. Honorable mentions: Bigger than that, Listen Up, I got this, Wind in my hair, make you proud, Crossing the Line, and view from up here. 10. Happily Ever After: appropriately we start with the first song of the series. This song gave us a good idea of how while this may seem like happily ever after and some like Rapunzel may want a little more from their lives given her spirit. 9. By my side: An awesome trio song that showcases the worry at the end of the journey as well as how friends can make you achieve anything. 8. I’d Give Anything/ Waiting in the wings: I grouped these two together because they both deal with the term oil the characters are facing. One with Rapunzel dealing with how she wants her friend back, and Cass wishing to be seen for who she is instead of feeling neglected. 7. Everything I ever thought I knew: a pretty rare moment where we see the smartass Eugene feeling lost and going through an existential crisis. I really appreciate this especially since this I feel helps make Eugene more interesting to me. 6. Nothing left to lose: this song went viral upon release and I understand why. How Varian tries to get through to Cass only for Cass to lash at him. 5. Ready as I’ll ever be: probably the first time we heard a war song in the series and it’s a good one. As the Corona warriors prep to deal with Varian and him preparing. This is a tune I could see people marching to. 4. Buddy song/Girl who has Everything: I just think these two are fun. The first while Lance and Eugene are tripping and almost eaten I just can’t help but smile. The next just about Rapunzel appreciating what she has now and a good buildup for what happens later in that episode. 3. If I could take that back: definitely a song I think everyone can really relate to. Although in this case Eugene is being blackmailed so not like he has a choice in his situation. But I love how it tells of regret two people in love wish they could’ve done something differently. 2. Set yourself Free/Stronger than Ever: probably the song I feel that best represents Rapunzel. As she’s clearly not the same girl who was in that tower and the song shows how ever in anything that could be someone’s prison they can find a way to set themselves free and how what doesn’t kill you simply makes you stronger. 1. Next Stop Anywhere: I just think this song is a great road trip song and showcases the arc for the second season. As we see all the trios relationships with each other.
Ghostwriter Half of season 2 is out rn on DisneyNow and many other platforms but I’m only saying DisneyNow because Disney hasnt been giving this show any recognition or news that this show even exists and because of that it’s been on a 6 month break and Germany just related the new episodes while here in the USA it will release in early March
For those of you who couldnt read the ending thingy "the bell is an accurate summation of Adam being a tragic character with no ideology who descended into a violent madness where he constantly craved glory, power, and control and saw Blake as an object and so he's actually kind of a piece of shit who deserves what he get in V6 (Oh also bees)" Well put
It's weird I saw the song ready as I'll ever be in a warrior cats MAP vid before I even knew tangled the series was a thing so kinda want to watch it even more now than before X3
She didn't forget to pay him a visit - he came begging for help DURING A LIFE THREATENING BLIZARD, and she had to prioritize Corona over keeping her promise to help him.
I? @@UnicornofWar :) Honestly I'm nto a fan of the movie, but the series looks fantastic and fi you say its good, i'll be happy to take that recommendation. after all, I love your videos, Cinnamon Child! but I tihnkt he best Disney princess is Merida.
Anyone else hoping for a Tangled/ Frozen crossover? Like, the reason the haitus is taking so damn long is because they're going to make a big, hour-long crossover between the two?
In my opinion Varian is a terrible shity who was just made a villian so the show could have villian. It is entirely his fault for what happened to his father and takes it out an the kingdom because Rapunzel was busy with some important shit. It just feels really ducking dumb to me.
I think he is terrible villian too but not for the reasons you mentioned. He is a great character but an aweful villian and his character didn't deserve to be made into a villian and made to go as far as they took him once he fell into villiany. Yeah it was his fault but damn they didn't have to ruin him for the sake of the plot. I don't mind him having a villian arc but I wish it had been treated with more respect to the integrity to his character like Cassandra's villian arc had because you can still feel her pain and how wronged she felt by Rapunzel. Varian felt it wronged by Rapunzel but they treat his feelings as more wrong then pained and they made him spiteful in secret of the sundrop for the sake of spite.
Omg that’s me!!! 😂❤️ I had so much fun doing this with you Thomas!

You should really review princess and the frog!!
I Luv this series ❤ the way it was written was unexpected but in a good way also the music been great as well
This is the only Disney series that has no deaths.
Slav Knut Gae haha u sure...
Why are all the Kassandras so hot?
love the horses in the show
I need to rewatch this sometime. Are we ever getting a season 2?
Ghostwriter
Half of season 2 is out rn on DisneyNow and many other platforms but I’m only saying DisneyNow because Disney hasnt been giving this show any recognition or news that this show even exists and because of that it’s been on a 6 month break and Germany just related the new episodes while here in the USA it will release in early March
9:06- Rapunzel is best villain.
Sorry. You sold me on the series in the first minute. I must now go watch it before I listen to your review. I SHALL BE BACK!
For those of you who couldnt read the ending thingy "the bell is an accurate summation of Adam being a tragic character with no ideology who descended into a violent madness where he constantly craved glory, power, and control and saw Blake as an object and so he's actually kind of a piece of shit who deserves what he get in V6 (Oh also bees)"
Well put
Lowkey Rapunzel's is best disney world on KH.

But seriously, I can't not think of Lex Luthor when I hear Clancy Brown. Same thing with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill.

0:22 Um... Hercules is the *best* disney movie.

You forgetting that Ariel had a TV show, which takes place before the first movie and after the prequel.

Does no one remember that araura got a tv show too
She didn't forget to pay him a visit - he came begging for help DURING A LIFE THREATENING BLIZARD, and she had to prioritize Corona over keeping her promise to help him.
The best disney princess is Mulan!
Fight me!!! NOW!!!!!!!

How funny is the fact that she's princess of Corona and in 2020 there's a mass disease called corona virus.
Did... Did you just name a RWBY character, then say "combat ready"...

@@NektisNoir SO NATHANIEL AND MARC
OMG YES MARC NAMES SOUNDS LIKE "ARC-EN-CIEL" RAIBOW OMG OMG !!!!!!!!!
FUCK YEAH
@@NektisNoir WHERE IS THE SOURCE?
Anyone else hoping for a Tangled/ Frozen crossover? Like, the reason the haitus is taking so damn long is because they're going to make a big, hour-long crossover between the two?
Not me. I don't care for these two to share a universe. Also they seem to share different time periods.
Hmph like ur not a nerd
In my opinion Varian is a terrible shity who was just made a villian so the show could have villian. It is entirely his fault for what happened to his father and takes it out an the kingdom because Rapunzel was busy with some important shit. It just feels really ducking dumb to me.
*terrible villian. Not terrible shity.
