    Oh dear! I had been thinking I'd got all the tools and machines I could possibly need so had not asked for anything for the shop from my family this year, and now you go and plant another idea in my head - but I've certainly missed out on Christmas 2018! Still, my birthday is in January . . . . . . .
    Anyway, thanks, Jon, for all your excellent videos, and may I wish you all the season's greatings from across the pond.

    Your videos are awesome, it's a joy to watch not only your skill as a woodworker, but perhaps even more so, how you can make really beautiful things using standard materials and your knowledge - much more esthetic than I can make from the same starting point.

    I have the Proformax ( now Jet ) 16/32 drum sander. Could you do a short video on installing the sanding rolls? Sometimes I get it right, but often not and the paper rips off... you have a way of explaining things clearly that others don’t. Thanks for the videos, looking forward to the house videos.

    Would you purchase the Jet again if you were to purchase one today? I have a small performax and am going to replace it with either a 25-50 Jet or the Supermax. they look very similar and seem to be made by the same company, but i'm not sure...thanks for the video!

    Does anyone have any experience with the Jet 22-44 drum sander? I'm considering buying a used one that seems to be in fairly decent shape, but feel like the newer machines might be a little better with adjusting the levelness of the drum, etc.

    Hey Jon. I’m in the market for a new benchtop planer and a drum sander. I was just wondering if you found yourself gravitating more towards one in the natural flow of you work. I understand the purposes/benefits of each, just wondering if over the years you’ve found one work more efficiently with your project flow. Can’t afford to buy both at once so hoping to get the best option first.

    I always get thrown when you call it a drum sander. In the shop I worked in we always called it a wide belt sander. But we used it for the same purpose. Basically as a light duty surface planer or shaper.

    • @nickr8829
      @nickr8829 5 лет назад +1

      A drum sander is a spinning drum that has a long piece of 3-3.5" sand paper wrapped around it. A wide belt sander uses a wide belt of sandpaper that you can easily remove and install. They're two completely different tools, with the wide belt sanders being generally more desirable for the ease of paper change but they're also much more expensive.

    Hi. With downsizing, I had to move my separate garage woodworking shop to storage for a few years and now I am resetting it up in the basement of our new home. The room is unfinished with poured floor, 2 drywall and 2 concrete walls, an open 8' ceiling and is good size (about 15' x 30'), with 1 door on an end wall. I am considering how best to arrange my floor equipment (i.e., 3hp table saw, 15" planer, 8" joiner, 16" drill press, 14" bandsaw, and 24" lathe) and would appreciate any suggestions you have. All of these pieces are movable on roller bases if needed. I also recently bought a new 12" slide miter saw (I believe like yours) and want to build-in an end wall with cabinets as a permanent miter location. I like yours in this RUclips and would love to see a plan and maybe video of how you made it or how you would make it again now.
    Thanks, so far i have enjoyed all of your postings,
    Chuck

    As one of the few people I've seen who own this drum sander, I've got to ask what kind of paper you use or where you get it? I've had my Jet 18-36 for almost a year and have tried the Dewalt paper (6" that I cut down to 3 3/8") made by Klingspor and usually it will last about ten passes before disintegrating. I'm on the verge of selling my sander because it doesn't get used nearly as much as I was anticipating due to this issue.
    Maybe part of it is my technique for installing the paper, but I've done it enough times I feel I get it fairly tight.
