    I have medial tybial stress syndrome from playing football(soccer). I did a month of running and sprinting before training again but that was on grass. My first training was on turf, but I only felt it the day after. I think the change of surface might have caused this, because I was already accustomed to my soccercleats. Apart from strengthening exercises for my calf and a great warm up before practice, Is there anything I could do.

      Try the taping as will help, regards JG

    • @kris3733
      @kris3733 Год назад +1

      It's very common to get injuries like this, I still have 1 more year to become a physio, but my professor who specialises in sports injuries said the easiest way for football player to get an injury is train hard during the week and on the weekend play indoor football. Its most likely for you also the case, that the change in training variables doing too much or too soon and your body needs time to adapt, so keep that in mind, still train but be a bit more careful of the volume especially if you change training surfaces.
      I have shin splints as well but also a big reason why its worse now is the colder weather, since its more difficult for blood circulation so thats also why warm ups are really important, also some stretching would probably help for the entire lower extremity and if you've less time then stretching the tibialis anterior specifically should help a bit as well.
      Hope this helps !

    • @hozze8597
      @hozze8597 Год назад

      I’ve been training with k-tape and a heel cushion in my footballcleats, and only have stiffness after training. Now the day after it is better then a couple of weeks before. I’m not sure which of the 2 helps the most. Apart from that still training al parts of the calf.
      The remark on the cold weather makes sense, maybe I should look into compression sleeves?
      Also thinking about personalised insoles.
      If I can play till april/may without major problems I’ll keep playing football (injuries really are demoralizing :/ )

    • @kris3733
      @kris3733 Год назад

      @@hozze8597 Getting insoles from a podiatrist could help a lot especially if they can look at the biomechanics of the lower extremity and suggest specialised insoles, if you need too could be useful.
      Haven't read much about about compression sleeves for shin splints, probably wont hurt, I saw during the world cup all football players had them so maybe helps a bit.
      Injuries suck, but the stiffness is probably just muscle fatigue and DOMS. If you see that your body doesn't feel very good and you're playing worse for around 2 weeks (if theres nothing else affecting you like sleep, diet etc...) probably need some rest and build up again.
      Also we (me included) can forgot that sports is about exercising and having fun and not everything needs to be perfect, paralysis by analysis... its easy to focus on all the wrong things and forget everything positive. Unless of course you depend on the sport then it's a different story.
