The puddle lamps on the 2015+ S550 Mustangs are, without a doubt, a party piece of the new design. The problem is they are poorly designed and fall out when the retention mechanism breaks. Good news is they are ridiculously simple to replace.

I've had mine for 3-1/2 yrs and no issues with them falling out, but I've had three of them "dissolve" or something so the pony becomes a blob. The first two were replaced under warranty, but now it is out of coverage. Luckily I got the passenger side from my dealer for under $30, I just haven't changed it yet. Looks like a very easy job. Thanks for the video!
It really is easy. The hard part was convincing the dealer to let me do the job so I could film it. I've seen a lot of these become distorted over time.
Hi guys, do you know what's the reason of the Pony suddenly get distorted? Is there any way to avoid it happen? Or at least keeping it longer.
That's the main problem unfortunately and why folks change them.
@@wongwaiyin128 no idea, except that it is just made from fragile materials. Mine was 100% garage kept at home and probably 50-60% in my work covered parking garage and both sides went bad the first year. Then the replacements went bad over the next two years. I just have a faint light on mine now. Not worth it to replace them again imo.
The reason they break is because people are using a screwdriver to get them out from underneath.
The correct way is to push the clip from between the bottom of the glass and bottom of the housing.
From the side where you look at the mirror.
3 times I've looked up a simple fix like this one for my '18 and it's been matt every time. Just take the sub.

I've had mine since May 2019 and just yesterday found out that the passenger size fell out (well at the moment, it's hanging by the wire). I'm first gonna try to glue it back in (coz I'm cheap!), if that doesn't work, I'll come back and use your amazon link ;). Great video, Thanks!
Both of mine had fallen out because it’s a cheap design. Glue is totally fine.
I have the puddle lamp but it’s never worked on my 2019, I never knew I had it and bought my car brand new.

I am struggling so, so hard to put both lights back in. Any reason why it’s so hard? I tried for almost an hour straight to get the light back in and it will not fit in no matter what
The wiring is getting in the way.
@@MustangsbyMatt oddly enough for me it’s not the wire. I can put the old one in over and over again no problem. I took a closer look and noticed the prongs on the old light are actually bent slightly backwards making it way easier to fit in. I tried adjusting the new light I had to push the prongs back and they broke… so now I have a new pair I’m trying to fix but to no avail still
Are you certain you got the correct model for your vehicle? There were at least two revisions and it may have fitment problems.
@@MustangsbyMatt it’s definitely the right part cuz I went straight into the ford dealership and bought it and both times I had them double check and they confirmed that it was the right piece. It’s just a pain to get the new one in there. The old one gets in and out with ease since the prongs are already bent back so it makes more room

Your mirrors are with BLIS or without BLIS? I believe that matters too
Do you know where I can find the plastic part that houses the light? The trim underneath the side mirror? It's the black piece on the bottom that surrounds the light.. don't know another way to describe it lol. Pls help
Question. So I am having the same issue with my 2019 GT350. The little plastic piece broke on the driver side and I am using tape to hold it in right now. Dealer is giving me a hard time saying I would need to replace the whole entire mirror which obviously is ridiculous. If I ordered one of these would it still shine the Cobra logo on the ground? Or would it be a mustang? Thanks.
Hi what side is the right which right? Is the driver side the left side? And the passenger is the right side ?
Everything is from the driver's perspective as they would be sitting in the driver's seat.
Hi Matt, do you happen to know the part number for the white connector that you attached the new puddle lamp to? I went to replace driver side puddle lamp recently on my 2015 Mustang and found the connector was missing and the previous owner soldered the wires to the puddle lamp connections. I don't know how to go about finding the correct connector. Thanks for your videos- very clear and concise.
I don't know the part number. I'd recommend you call the Parts Farm in Lyons, GA. They have dozens and dozens of S550 Mustangs and I can all but guarantee they have your socket. Tell them MustangsbyMatt sent you, might get a discount.

MustangsbyMatt. I would suggest doing maybe a Mustang model comparison. GT350 GT350R and GT500. You could even do maybe some reviews on them. It would also be nice to go over some mods you can do on your Mustangs. I know you already have some videos on them but you could go over some different brands you would recommend. I found your channel when you posted the video on picking up your 2018 Mustang GT not sure if you are still headed in the car Mustang direction.
Hey Matt, what's the difference between the part number in your description and part FR3Z-13B374-B? I need to order a puddle light for the right side for a 2017 Mustang GT.
IIRC, -A and -B are obsolete part numbers. You might still be able to order them but I believe -C and -D are the newest revision. They work with all 2015-2020 Mustangs.

How do you change the film, to project other images? Also, does ur factory warranty cover those lights falling out? If not? Why not drop a dropp of E6000 Glue on it, then popp it in. It won't come out agian. :D
Is it possible to do an OEM aftermarket upgrade?
I wonder if the base model mirrors are already wired for this upgrade?
They may well be wired but I doubt they'd have the proper cutouts.

Because they broke and fell out. I didn't pop them out, gravity did.
How do you take it out?
Mine had the quality of already being broken but a small flat blade and a bit of luck should work just fine.

@@MustangsbyMatt l actually just sold my baby Tuesday somehow water got inside the lenses and the light got distorted? Thank you for getting back to me l was definitely going to replace them.

Is there a way to install these on a mustang that didn't come standard with them? Or just buy mirrors with them?
I really should look into this. You're not the first person to ask about that. Right now, I don't have an answer.
MustangsbyMatt Yea, I've been searching to see if anyone's been able to install an oem light on a side mirror that didn't include the option but I got nothing. I found custom logos but I want the factory pony. Lol. Its simple and clean looking. Thank you though. I'm looking at OEM mirrors now. See if I can just switch them out.
You might have to add the wiring but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, if not a headache.
What is the year of your Mustang? Premium or base? Engine/Transmission?

Did it originally and it's become messed up over time?
@@MustangsbyMatt when I purchased a vehicle with 40,000 miles on it, it was like that already. Now I have $66,000 on it and it's still the same way. It just doesn't look like a pony, it almost looks blurry as if a cataract over it.

Yeah, that will happen over time. Use the part numbers in the video and order replacement parts. You can get them on Amazon. Just pry out from the back and replace as seen in the video. Let me know if you have any questions.
