- Okay folks, here is one of the oldest tools used. It goes back thousands of years when mankind first started crafting or manipulating a work piece.
Used by spooncarvers but was used by pioneers on the trail and explorer's.
Hope you get the jist of how to make one and hope you enjoyed it.
Try it yourself if you are into carving, you'll love it for controlled and safe knife handling.

Really glad you enjoyed it 👍
This will make a cool home school day for my kids 😁
There you go 👍
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the vice, great camera work.
I appreciate that 🙏
When I first started making expedient primitive bows outdoors, I put the bow material on a tree branch which was about waist high and parallel to the ground. Cordage or rope was over the bow material and held in place by simply stepping in the loop and pushing down.
This allowed for the stave material to be shaved and tillered more easily at waist height. Some of us call it a stomp vise.
Thanks for your video and all the best from an old guy in NM.
Yes sir 👍
Thank you 😊
Outstanding!~! ;-)
Thank you Bill. I truly appreciate that

@@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors Oh yes. Just incredibly busy, apartment hunting, working, and packing. Will be moving in a week, staying local.
Looks like a really nice day out. And a good trick, I’ll have to try it.
Good to see you here 👍
It was a great day other than severe wind
Yep, lap vise is pretty handy
Take care
I don’t spend much time on RUclips. But maybe I will be here more often with the shutdown.

😊👍🍻 Thanks chris
The sound of a saw cutting through wood and the natural ambiance of the woods is so relaxing. Good job on the lap vise. Seems simple enough to make.
Thank Reuben
I thought it would be nice instead of me yapping 😅
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome
Really appreciate the orginal content
👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you ,I really appreciate it.

Ahhh! Feels like I had a nice afternoon out in the woods! Thanks! Going to give this lap vise a go! Who needs a spoon mule or shave horse???😁👍👏
Good deal 👍😊
Thank you very much
Very cool woodsman skill. Never seen this done before. Good stuff Ray
Thank you Frank 👍
I figured not too many people have.
Glad you enjoyed it
Well damn Ray, here I though you were an average working joe like me but al this time you've had this plush woodland cottage to retreat to. I assume it's fully stocked with Dom, foie gras and black truffles too. I hope at the very least you treat the house-keeping staff well.
Bwahaha 😅😅😅
It might be my house away from home soon
Hope you enjoyed it Mark😊
I started, but haven't finished your video yet
I love that lap vice and your camp looks awesome. Full stop. 👍

Good deal John👍
That's what I was aiming for on this. Old skills👊
Pass it on my friend
I was sad when you put the fire out, great video my friend.
I was sad too. But due to the high winds and dry conditions, I actually cut this outing very short.
I hope you are subbed ,there will be more 👍
Thanks for watching
@@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors
Yes sir, been subbed for a year or so.
I enjoy your vids
@@OKBushcraft right on 👍
pioneer people have some real nice camera equipment...
The best 😁
Great vid buddy. 🌲🥃🤛🏻🌲. Aka sparrow_bushcraft
Thank you Sparrow, I think you should join the party here 👍😊🍻
That was fascinating Ray. The entire video. One of your best. I personally would never need a lap vise but that was slick how you did it. Question: What camp axe were you using?
Thank you Jamie 👍
I figured not too many people have seen this.
The axe is Helko Werk carpenter axe.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Looked like a good day! Was that a turkey.... a coyote’s dinner ? I was wondering if you were gonna get a feather or two 🏹🏹🏹. The shelter seems to have survived Winter pretty good. I kinda made one of those lap vise things on the end of my carving bench I think! Ha ha ha!
It was a great day until the wind got abit dangerous to be in the woods.
We have a high bobcat population here as well, so who knows about the Turkey.
I did get plenty of feathers 😉👍
Stay safe Chris👊🍻
In Australia it's called a Bushman's clamp , cheers
Right on 👊🏻
time well spent if you ask me
That it was Jeremy 👍
Thanks for watching and please share
Really? Sheesh. Un-sub'd.
Okay 🙋♂️
