Hi guys, if anyone want to shed light on this, please! I was wondering about a thought about Faustino's life, we all get this notion that we have to do something with our life (achieve something, enjoy, wealth, status, respect, love, relationship, explore, invent, create, etc). On the contrary Don Faustino hasn't had any of these, lived almost sober life for 40 years. Obviously, he was farming, herding and surviving, reading. Michael it becomes so much more clear the more you think about it too, i remember i was maybe 12 when i discovered my misanthropy, i started to question everything, we humans, think this is OUR planet, we act like we own it. all we do in life is devour other life.. thats it, we Are nature's Black Plague.
I've always thought that the most "human" thing to do is EVIL itself. No other species on earth damage other just for pleasure, only suvival. And look how human we are that we are wrecking earth, even tho it's the only place to live we have...
“Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something that precedes the individual. Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to, and therefore does not partake of society, is either a beast or a god. ” ― Aristotle

I lived somewhat like this for about 8 months, didn't speak to people but maybe once or twice a month, didn't really see anyone. If you go into it with a good head, some good common sense, it can be enjoyable, it is a very simple life and going back to civilization you will miss the tranquility and simplicity, the idea that you can wake up every single day and do exactly what you want with no one to bother you or interrupt your plans.
How did you spend your time, dannyalexander? I mean, what did you do with yourself all day? Even if you did not earn a living, how did you prevent yourself from getting bored?
Daisy Chain I wrote a lot of songs and music, began to learn what kind of person I was. I am somewhat of an introvert, quite fine being alone and relish the times I get a chance to not be bothered. I also have ADD which makes it difficult to focus on things, when you do the same thing every day, get into a strict uninterrupted routine without anyone or anything to bother you or change your plans, it makes it much easier to focus on things. I also spent time doing stuff out in nature, exploring the local area, I had bought chickens and raised them, I also had a dog. I did work, but it was alone at night in the middle of nowhere. I would occasionally see people, but didn't have much in common with them and due to my location and the night hours I worked, rarely communicated.
+danalexander I would go crazy, I can't stay in one place, I like to travel and explore other places. I need to socialize with people, even as an introvert.
Are you kidding me? Imagine a life with no stress, no worries, no crime, no violence, living as one with nature, true paradise!! He has found it...He is the true winner here...not us.
Kitty Sharts Yeah but what's the saying by Samuel Johnson that isolation induces madness or superstition in a person, live the way he does and I can quite easily see how that saying might come true.
Some of us like to socialize with others and travel and be around people. There's nothing wrong with that. What looks to you like paradise, is hell to some.
To anyone wondering, according to today (October 9th, 2023), Faustino Barrientos is over 80 years old and currently continuing his 50-year-long life in nature. He feels well, still works to support his living on his own, and trouble with land claims seems to have died down. Bless this man's soul, he's a relic of our history as a species.
I got to be honest, I really identify with this guy. I spent nearly 2 years alone, hiding from the world. Once you get used to being alone, you don't want it any other way. Other people just get in the way, and it can become frustrating to have to accommodate people, when all you want is peace and quiet. To be alone with your thoughts, a book, whatever your interests are. What I see when I see this guy, is what I might have become had I not let the world back into my life. Even after I did, it took more than a year to feel comfortable again. And even now, I miss the solace of being alone. It really is strangely addicting, once the pangs of loneliness pass in the beginning. (It all depends on the person how long that lasts. Depends on how tethered you are emotionally to the world, family, friends, etc. But it does pass in time, its almost like social withdrawls.) I actually think it is a good experience for a person to go through at least once in your life. It gives you perspective, teaches you to collect your thoughts, and be practical. I wouldn't give that experience up for anything. I learned a lot about myself in those 2 years. I learned that I don't need anyone to survive but myself, and knowing that gives me a sense of calm I never had before on some level.

I like most the videos VICE makes, I like what they do and how they bring light to subjects we may never have heard about or cared for. I just hate how it's 90% of the time it's a bunch of hipsters thinking they are re inventing the wheel.
Yeah, it's hilarious that they act like they're in the wilderness because they don't have Internet. This guy lives alone outside of a town. Not exactly the ends of the Earth.
Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The greatest concentrations of hipsters can be found living in the Williamsburg, Wicker Park, and Mission District neighborhoods of major cosmopolitan centers such as New York, Chicago, and San Francisco respectively. Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic. Despite misconceptions based on their aesthetic tastes, hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in maths and sciences, which also require certain creative analytical thinking abilities. Consequently many hipsters tend to have jobs in the music, art, and fashion industries. It is a myth that most hipsters are unemployed and live off of their parent's trust funds.

With the way the world is becoming today, I am totally considering on living the same way as this man. Somewhere out in the Montana forests, with my cabin that I built with my own hands and my rifle. No social media, no news, just me, my thoughts and nature.
In my 20’s I thought that’s my dream living alone. Then I started to realize that your relationships with your family, your friends, your community is the real value that life rewards you.
Leave people that want to be alone, alone. Why can't people that want peace and isolation be left to it, away from the burdens of civilization? Oh, because they aren't being milked off of for money, that's right... that land he lives on isn't being taxed, he isn't paying for gas, etc. lol.

How are you socially isolated when you interact with people on social platforms like RUclips?
Matter of perspective, I really don't owe anyone an explanation but these questions I'm getting are too ignorant about mental health and social isolation. It's not always about living in the woods without electricity, it's not that fantasy-like , you have no idea how it's like.It was cold and dark until this video made me think a little possitive about it.

@Yng_jafet nah they meant coz since he's on isolation he isn't exposed to newer bacteria/disease so his immune system wont block it
He is out getting in touch with bacterias and viruses every day. He is isolating from PEOPLE not from nature.
This dude is got to be the strongest and happiest man on earth . happiness comes from within not from others. Who to say he is lonely . he couldn't be lonely if he stayed alone for that long
Not that strong or happy if his nephew walking on his land caused him so much distress. Still clearly had a lot of ill will in his mind
He might be the happiest man on Earth, discovering that human beings are the source of all of our problems.

A man goes to the ends of the earth to be left alone and some busy bodies from thousands of miles away hunt him down and impinge on his personal space - great!

Must be amazing doing that.where did you lived like this for 8 months

How did you spend your time, dannyalexander? I mean, what did you do with yourself all day? Even if you did not earn a living, how did you prevent yourself from getting bored?
Daisy Chain
I wrote a lot of songs and music, began to learn what kind of person I was.

Because some people dont live alone
To anyone wondering, according to today (October 9th, 2023), Faustino Barrientos is over 80 years old and currently continuing his 50-year-long life in nature.
He feels well, still works to support his living on his own, and trouble with land claims seems to have died down.
Bless this man's soul, he's a relic of our history as a species.
How did you get this information?
Wrong, just arrived in Villa O Higgins today, went to the municipality and they told me he's dead since 3-4 years 😭
I got to be honest, I really identify with this guy.
But it does pass in time, its almost like social withdrawls.)
I actually think it is a good experience for a person to go through at least once in your life. It gives you perspective, teaches you to collect your thoughts, and be practical.
I wouldn't give that experience up for anything. I learned a lot about myself in those 2 years. I learned that I don't need anyone to survive but myself, and knowing that gives me a sense of calm I never had before on some level.

Being alone is true power, but feeling lonely is a sickness.
I live VERY rurally and I stay to myself as much as humanly possible. On 100+acres with a mile long driveway. Initially, due to immune suppression medication for an autoimmune disease.

Anyone else watching this during Quarantine?
40 years of "complete isolation." Has a radio, shot at his nephew, travels into town now and again to sell cattle. "Complete isolation." Nice clickbait Vice.
+chessthecat he travels into town once every few years, apart from that he lives in isolation, you're embarrassingly stupid.
This man actuallycwas raped and killed on his property last year.
+chessthecat Yeah this is bullshit. Complete isolation means you have 0 interaction and contact or communication with someone. Try someone who's rotting in jail with no family but in constant iso holding.
got link to that
want to know what loneliness is get married
Vice documentary makes talk crap... “we had no idea what we were getting into”, “he had no technology” as guy sits listening to soccer on electric radio
For once let's appreciate the scenic beauty of this place
What a badass, I wonder if he’s still enjoying his awesome life.
"Living in Isolation"
Others : Boring , Scary , Creepy.......
Introverts : FREEEEEEDDOOOOM !!
@Trevis Schiffer Well as an introvert I can say in this "Self quarantine" circumstances , with no office , no work pressure. Just playing Skyrim, having quality time with family. It's really FREEDOM..
I'd be down to live that way with a couple people or a mate and live outside of society like the woods mountains ect like alot of people do not totally alone lol that's too much for me totally boring no fun
@Tian Vermonntemg 😂😂😂 Well Nature made us to be like him... not Corporate SLAVES
FREEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!
Well online school...
As an introverted person,i can tell you,i hate online school, even more than regular one, because of procrastination,i had fallen behind in 2 classes, and if i fall behind in another one,i will likely repeat the grade or go to summer school, like why did they close schools when we could just wear masks and gloves, and kids are unlikely to get the disease anyway,i am not anti lockdown in any way,but there is no cases in my city or region,so it's just weird, online school is making me go insane, give that my parents who work 16 hours a day and i am stuck with my younger brother who screams randomly and hits me for no reason, and crime rates like burglary have risen,so imagine being robbed while my parents work their 16 hour shifts, that would be bad.I already go to a psychologist because of trust and anger issues, but even that is closed, and because most people go work in factories or truck driving industries, children have no protection from parents or teachers,so if they get injured or robbed or kidnapped, they have no help
People like that have incredible inner strength.
"Complete isolation" > guy visits town often to sell his cattle
yes
Yeah this nigga probably got wifi and everything
You guys are totally stupid, I live a couple of miles from where he lives, and many people here follow the same lifestyle (Wish I could too). It's easy to laugh when you're in the outside and understand no shit about different places and people.
Nice noun pawn.
...and listening to the radio. In other words, he is more isolated than most farmers--and that is all. The title was probably an editor's choice.
Is 2020 and if he is still alive, is almost fifty years thats he’s been there all by himself now. I have been in patagania. Its cold and windy af, but i would definitely move there if I have the chance. Heaven on earth.
This man lives days from the nearest town, on a place you have to get to by boat, by himself, and he still locks his door when he leaves the house. Good man. There are crazy people out there with the mentality that "oh our neighborhood is safe. We don't even bother locking the doors." B*tch why?? You afraid you'll break your wrist locking it? It's built in the damn door, and your security system ain't shit if the first line of defense isn't even being used.
Also locking due to animals going in is good I guess. Beautiful land he has.
