  • In this one, we take a pair of ammonites I bought back in September and prep them! They are very nice specimens of Mamites from Morocco, but were still coated in matrix. Using the Airscribe and my new air eraser, we remove all of the outer matrix and polish one to exposed a beautifully calcified ammonite beneath! This was a very fun project with a very satisfying end result! I always love fossil prep, so if you all would like to see more, make sure to let me know! I have no shortage of specimens that need prep! I hope you all enjoy and I will have another one out very soon!

Oh yeah, I like the prepping vids, very relaxing to watch you work. I think my favorite is the same one, the polished one--and I don't blame you for not wanting to cut it. Those Moroccan ammonites really are awesome, I have a small one, maybe three inches across, that's cut and some of the chambers have teeny-tiny soft yellow calcite crystals as well as druzy. But the bigger ones I've seen look better as specimens or polished. Anyway, thanks Theo, see ya next time!

i have been in Morocco and bought a lot of beutiful cut gemstones. Eggs both from the deserts and the mountains and was also offered those ammonites, but some guides said that they was fake, but later, I have learn, they are not. I had wished to be back there and explore more rocks in the soukes/basars. It is so nice polished

Hi Theo, my name is Karla. I work at a Town Pump in Kalispell. I'm a widow and I'm looking to find a hobby that I love. To my surprise there's agates, jasper and many more rocks here I didn't know about here in Montana!!! I'm originally from the coast but I've been here in Montana for 20 years. I love rock hunting. Could you and agate mom help me to know where to go find rocks in my area? Please 🙏 . If you comment me back I'll give you my info. Hope to here from you. Thank you for all the joy you bring us. I'm great full for you. Again thank you so very much 😊😊

I have some ammonites from the species Ceratites, they are a nightmare to prep as well, they also have a calcium layer between it and the stone, I may have the right tool for that, but it isn't ready yet. The ammonites look awesome in the end, that you prepared 👍

I can't pick a favorite ammonite, but the polish on the small one is very nice. I get why you aren't polishing the big one....if it were mine I'd slice it and polish the insides then display them opposite....preferably somewhere I would walk around them thru the day. I got the box I ordered from you, they are great and thank you so much for the extras. Oh yeah, more prep please!

Vinegar soak to get rid of that "stickey" you describe in the calcite deposits. Even do so with that bone in host rock as it will simplify the scribe work. Yes, you will have to polish those resulting specimens when prep is done, but that's what lapidary is all about.

Hey Theo! Those look so good! I’m wondering if you could do more baculite videos? Prep and all that, what do you do with different conditions of them, and can they all be prepped or no? I have soooo much baculite and little I guess inspiration to do anything with them😅
