  • In this one, we cut another heap of rocks! A friend allowed me to raid their rock pile over the summer, where we got some incredible Montana agates and Thundereggs! On top of that, our good friend Derek the Rock Master gave us some amazing agates from Montana that I had never heard of: White Earth Agates! They are an incredible red banded and botryoidal agate that is extremely rare and difficult to acquire! They truly are unlike any other agate I've ever seen from Montana! We select a few of each to cut and then feed them to slab saw! I hope you all enjoy this one, and I will have another one out very soon!

6:52 we get ones just like that in Utah. I just got some I’m sending out to a few people! Some great purples in some of them too.
7:24 that Iris is insane! WOW!
17:19 might be a favorite! That’s the type of cuts I have been collecting for a project! Lots of slabs and chunks with little caves or arches or bots or druzy I love that one! Great cuts Theo.

That video reminds me of a similar project, exploring the depths of a rock collection I "inherited" when a local rockhound died. His wife gave me the entire collection, in exchange for clearing it out of her basement. The guy who built the collection worked for a sugar refining business, and he traveled all over the Great Plains and Rockies to visit the factories. While he was there, he would get permission to collect rocks from the local wheat fields that were fallow, exposing the rocks. He also collected the popular materials wherever he went. So I got a trove of lovely Youngite from his collection. And I got a thousand different varieties of jaspers and chalcedonies from all over the Great Plains and the foothills of the Rockies.
Good fun! There's some of it I still haven't cut after thirty years!

Wow, those rocks are gorgeous! I don't know rock types, but I got some similar rocks to tumble from a local couple that were getting out of the rock business. They told me the rocks are from Montana, Oregon & Washington. I don't know what 'cabbing' is, but I love tumbling the slices of rocks, whatever they're called (cabbed?). I'm a Grandma, but I still love rocks. I let my young grandsons (6 & 8 yrs) pick what they want to keep. Absolutely love your channel💙

Nice Jeff HuntingRocks told me that Derek found a new agate in Montana. Yeah they’re cool! Also someone messaged me about some lace agate they found in southwest Missouri that seems to have a little bit of iris! It’s similar to but different than Haunted Ridge agate. If I can get ahold of some I’ll try and send you a piece

Wow! Those white earth agates were all so different, and so unique from each other and so beautiful! They are definitely something I've never seen before! Absolutely gorgeous! Every one of them and yeah, they were my favorites. All three of them! And although the iris was very pretty, it definitely took a backseat to those beauties! Wow! A bunch of amazing cuts! Just gorgeous! They were all lovely! And a huge shout out to Derek the Rock Master, for the gorgeous new agate from Montana, that the native Montanan, has never even heard of before! You Rock Derek! Thanks Theo for sharing your beautiful treasures with us! They were awesome cuts! ❤ See you Monday!

Another great cutting session, Theo! I'd bet you might find some of those white earth pieces to be reactive if you hit them with a UV light. Lots of old uranium mines down around the Pryor Mountains area. It would be interesting to know where it came from. I hope you can find out where it came from, even if you can't tell us. Such pretty material as well as all you showed!
Jared at Currently Rockhounding has a good video on cutting Thunder Eggs. If they have discernible pressure ridges you can tell which way to cut, if not, you cut and hope for the best.

I walk around a lot, sometimes I pick up rocks. The thing is I live and walk in Iowa. I found one piece this week that "oh, a two color sandstone" Yah, light and barely darker tan. Sometimes there's something exciting like a fossil looking worm or layers like a fossil plant.
Once in a while something that got moved here glacially maybe from Lake superior looks interesting, has some color.
Oh, sure you can go down to Makoketa and maybe find some geodes. But not in this town.
My brother in law said his farmer father called the rocks in his field "sex stones" When asked why he said "They're f__ing rocks." "Now go pick up some of those f__ing rocks for an hour and pile them at the edge of the field.

Looks like black flint with some calcium carbonate & pockets of Calcedony .
That's just my opinion but I've been a rock hound since 94 so pretty much 30 years lol. I've encountered some pretty weird stuff over the years . We don't have any basalt or ryolite here but yet we have agate in our shale that used to be stuff like brackiopods ,clams, corals , amonites ect.ect. Kentucky agate all used to be some kind of sea life . A lot of times the hull/ husk outer rind will show remnants of what it used to be .
