A GOLD High-banker that's capable of processing 6 to 8 cubic meters before a clean-up. Must be set up with flexible legs and worked as a shaker box combination with some sideways movement to gravity separate.
Only use the vertical mesh if Sapphires are with the gold. For Gold only we use "Standard" expanded sloped mesh.
It's perfectly legal to use a Highbankers in NSW, Australia. Highbankers or sluice box alone is not illegal. The use of motorize or mechanical pump in highbanking is what's illegal. The mining act 1996 and the pump moving the water from A to B is covered by the water management act 2000. Cheers
Wal &liz Thanks so much giving free lecture to all prospectors ❤
Thanks Phil..did the vid only to help out some fossicking mates who are having trouble with the local flour gold....Like you said ...satisfaction with your own gear always puts a smile on your face when your out on the stream....Cheers Wal.
Glad you enjoyed the vid Aldos...I run a honda WX15..and this is more than enough for the type of bankers we use....all the best ... Cheers Wal.
First of all, right on Wal! Great video and breakdown of how you built your high banker. Those of us that know how to fabricate can easily take the info and video to build one ourselves, so thank you for sharing. To all those arm chair quarterbacks out there, it sure is easy to make a snotty comment when your behind the web and not actually face to face with the person you're throwing your idiotic and rude comments towards. Personally I think this is a HUGE issue with the people of today, but I digress. Anyway, thanks again Wal, I will be building my high banker soon using your plans, because Im not sure if anyone else watched any of the videos of you using the high banker, but DAMN did that thing catch a ton of gold!
Douglas Goldstein Thanks for the kind comment Douglas. There's certainly plenty of different Banker configs out there and all have their good and bad points depending on the location and type of wash their processing. Got no problem with people's opinions, but can find it frustrating when some form opinions from very little experience out there on the streams. All the very best with your build and hope the gold is kind to you. Take care...Wal.
+Douglas Goldstein I have zero interest in prospecting but loved wal's video. I hope you are wrong about the arm chair quarterbacks as you call them, simply because wal video has so much to teach everyone. He is off his arse, doing /making something, created his own device and has bothered to share it. Enormous!!! That separates Wal immediately form the fat couch potatoes. I hope i am as active and enthused as Wal in twenty years time. GReat video!
+Tom Ryan Thanks for the comment Tom. Hope all is great over your way and all the very best....Wal.
Fantastic Video Wal nLiz, This is the first one I believe would truly work anywhere with any type of soil. I've been studying high-bankers for years now and always felt they fell short in different ways. Your covers many of the questions I had especially in the area of the expanded aluminum. The liquefaction in the rear to spread out the soils and your spray bar setup is genius also, by preventing the holes from plugging and stopping production. Which I just happen it see in a "Hoffman Moment" on an earlier Gold Rush show this year (prospecting in S America). I'm going to start building one this winter as there's no much else to do here. I saw your posting on Prospecting Australia and will follow your specification. I can't say enough about how much I like your ideas! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed the vid Pro2. The system has served us extremely well over the past 30 years, and we prospect with it pretty well all over Australia. Hope some of the aspects can be of use in your own High Banker build. Best of luck out there....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for the comment popsmcgee1...been using this system for over40 years in my dredges and High bankers and and have generally kept the concept to myself. Thought I'd share as I'm not getting any younger. Compared it side by side with many commercial units and found the capture rate on the flour gold is far superior especially after processing high volumes. Many H- Banker configs. work on low volume rates but high volume sees most failing....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for the comment Ian....A few mates in the Prospecting Australia forum wanted to know some of the principles i use ...so thought this was the easiest way to explain. Has served me well over the years and hope some of the concepts may be of use to you. If you need any additional info please PM me and i can answer any queries you may have....good luck on your next hunt and keep those great vids of yours coming....Cheers Wal.
Look forward to chatting with you on the forum...cheers Wal.
Hi Rydell, I run a Honda wx15. Any pump that runs over 200litres / minute will do. I run 30m of flat hose and that's quite sufficient. If your chasing Gold only you can run standard sloped mesh and with this you can run lower water pressures. If like me you chase both gold and sapphires then the vertical mesh is far better. If you would like more info just send me a PM and I'll try to help you out...Cheers Wal.
Thanks Shivan...a few forum members been asking what i use and thought i might as well show them in a vid rather than try to explain the principals.....kept it a secret up till now but i guess it might help some of the newcomers to get started.....Cheers Wal.
The cave at the Cotter is Limestone and there is unfortunately no gold in the Cotter region....Oallen Forde is certainly your best shot at guaranteeing some gold and is very easy digging......best of luck and hope you get plenty of colour in your sluice....Cheers Wal.
thanks for the comment Sodabowski...pleasure to pass on the experience to people who appreciate it...Cheers Wal.
thanks for the comment.....we find that the guy who travels the furthest up the rivers finds the best gold....portability is a must in our areas. The whole unit including pump and hoses weighs under 30 kg so ticks a lot of boxes when you haven't got a spare pack horse....Cheers Wal.
Thanks guys....needed to do a quick one for some Forum friends...should have picked a less windy day....sorry about the noise....Cheers Wal..
Thanks Wal,I've just built my first lightweight river sluice and haven't got to check it out yet! I really liked your set up,I can see where more volumn equals more gold recovered in a days time...Well done!
Thanks Wal for sharing the details for building such an awesome high banker. I love the DIY approach you used to make a product that probably kicks a** on most commercial units. Take care.................Steve
Thanks for the comment Steve. There are many hi-bankers around which work very well. Mine is base on both gold and sapphire collection. The main difference between mine and the others is really only the bread crate system. This was mostly developed to suit our local region but would work well in all gold locations. Have a great new year. Cheers, Wal
Thanks for the comment David.....hope your river sluice becomes heavy with gold on your next trip...Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching Max...I run a wx15 Honda pump but any pump that can deliver over 200 L/m will do the job quite well....Cheers Wal.
Nice set up and the portability looks great!
Good info and nice workmanship from a California prospector!
Best of luck
Hey Wal, Thank you so much for making this video! I have done a lot of research myself on high-bankers, and your design seemed to make a lot of sense. So I built one this fall. It has a few bugs with what I could find to work with, but it does a bang up job on finding fine gold.
Thanks again, from Placer County Ca. USA
Thanks for the comment ,HurtHawks....just thought I'd pass on some some of the experience I've gained in the past 40 years dredging and high banking. There's many configurations of high bankers that work....this is just the one that has worked the most efficiently for me.....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching and commenting Rusty. By running the slotted spray bar and a forward classifying screen this enables you to work the clay ridden rocks prior to scraping them off the classifier. We work a lot of clay areas for our sapphires and never have a problem with it..can see where the problem is when using a Grizzly system. Check out our vid on hi-banking for Sapphires at Grabben Gullen Creek which is a good example of working clay areas. Best of luck with whatever high-banker you use
Thanks for watching Walter...the banker works on the principles of mechanical jigs and is useful when gravity separating. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers Wal.
thanks for posting! great design and very clear narration. im building one atmo, so will definately take a lot of you ideas on board.
thanks again!
Walt,
Outstanding video...highly informative and well thought out. You have done your homework and have applied the engineering principles to a real world situation in an excellent manner. Thanks for showing the source items for your materials. Good job from start to finish...WTG. Cheers mate!
Rick (HurtHawk)
Thanks wal, much appreciated. I'm learning and have adapted your bread crate ideas into my sluice. I'm about to get a pump and I'm sure eventually move into a hi(wal)banker. But what I found interesting is your comment about portability. That has to be a big thing, I definitely want to be able to move around with my gear.
Thanks again.
Good luck with it Brendo. Remember if you are going for gold only use a sloped expanded, and if it's a combination of gold and gems then use the vertical sided expanded. Cheers Wal.
+Wal nLiz Thanks Wal will do. I've been watching your videos and reading up big time on AP, so hopefully some of your, and all the other prospectors tips will help. Good luck to you both, might see you out there between Illawarra and Canberra one day.
Thanks for the comment muss78...hope some of the concepts are of use to you in your banker....best of luck.Cheers Wal.
Thanks for the comment mate....hope it may be of help if you're building a hi-banker yourself...Cheers Wal.
Thanks for the comment Driver and hope you get to chase some gold in your local area soon...all the best...Wal.
Thanks for the comment Rotgrub...hope the gold over your way continually finds it's way into your sluice ....Cheers Wal.
please note that the spray bay requires a pump that can deliver a high enough volume of water to process high volume material....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching Larry....the set up works well, as you can run a much higher water flow....water flow is the key and if the pump can't deliver... then more conventional methods may suit better ,,, Best of luck...Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching jason, we work different areas hence the two types of mesh. I've found over the years that a vertical mesh is far superior on Sapphires whereas for gold only, standard expanded is best, best wishes, cheers Wal.
Thanks for the comment Thomas, Mainly did this vid to show a few friends on a forum i'm involved with .There is a couple of vids I've mentioned that show the Banker in use....Check out my vid Gold - High banking at Tuena Creek- the log jam....and you can see one in action....Cheers Wal.
Hello Spiritx...I will be doing one soon on how to make a delux snuffer bottle for gold sniping....Cheers Wal.
For a banker the size i use you need a pump that can deliver around 200 L/m. If you're chasing gold only and use sloped expanded mesh the water flow can be considerably less...say around 120L/m. Many of the mats on the market work quite well but I've found the woven rubber and miners moss substitutes work the best over the years....hope this helps mate....Cheers Wal.
Thanks guys...hope some of the members can use some info from it ....Cheers Wal
Amazing tutorial! I'm going to build one this winter to try after the spring floods!
Thanks for watching Jim and best of luck on th gold this spring. Cheers Wal.
I like your design I can see why it will work very well. I am going to try and put one together.
Thanks so much mate for your information and hard work and time much appreciated 👍👍🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed the vid Nedleo and hope some of the info is of benefit to you. Best of luck...Wal.
The vertical mesh shown is what we use for sapphires, standard expanded is what we use for gold only. Get on to Prospecting Australia forum, and I have a dedicated area for the high-banker on there, with species and all the info you need.Hope this helps Aldos....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for your prompt reply Wal nLiz.. This is the way I want to go, WX15 to pump and shovel right into box and classifying at the same time.. Have trawled most of the gold forums on in stealth but im gonna say a G'day over at prospecting australia
You have that down to a science. Great video best box I've seen yet and very well explained . Ty
Thanks for watching Donnie. This version is a combined gem and gold version. For gold only I prefer to run a sloped expanded mesh and a higher water volume. All the best...Wal.
EXCELLENT video Wal n Liz! Thanks
Thanks for the video @! I'll likely adjust my setup more to get the most gold per backache ! My local streams have been worked many times thru and flour gold is most of the take for the common areas. Stay vertical !
Thanks for watching...tried all the spray methods over the years and many different combinations work...I have found this method to be the most consistant and is the best method when working with clay covered wash...best of luck...Cheers Wal.
Great video, I now have an entirely different perspective on highbanking, especially with our material that is extremely heavy with clay... Thanks!
I would like to prospect for gold I am retired now and your sluice box has me really got me going I want to learn a lot more and build a sluice box like the one you demonstrated and I will have an interesting hobby i think it is really fantastic brilliant.
robert shellfoon Thanks for the comment Robert and I'm sure that you will enjoy the thrills that prospecting can bring. Take care...Wal.
you're a pro at this mate. well done.
+Alex Quick Thanks for watching and the comment Alex. All the best...Wal.
Hope you do well with it Sam....Cheers Wal.
Excellent video Wal nLiz. Thankyou
Thanks for watching MROtisful and glad you enjoyed the vid. Cheers, Wal
A great video, and some really great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Great stuff Wal - I really enjoyed it and learned a few things too. Thanks very much.
Thanks for the comment cuz....hope the vid might be of some help if your hi-banking...Cheers Wal.
Nice work, I will try the spray bar configuration.
Thanks rodney...hope you found some of the info useful....Cheers Wal.
Hope you got a few different ideas from the vid black sand, The forward classifier gives you plenty of time to break up the clay before discarding it. Best of luck in your area and hope the gold cooperates for you... Cheers Wal.
Made a vid of making mine. THOUGHT I'D SHARE. Didn't make the sides deep enough so going to change that right away. Thanks again!
hIGH BANKER movie
Thanks for watching ...There is a you tube vid called....Minerals and rocks of Poland....If you leave a comment they might know as they live in Poland.....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching Max....I build a few on request so if you send me a personal message i can give more advice.....all the best..cheers Wal.
Brilliant stuff wal
Hope some of the principles can be of benefit to you. Cheers, Wal
very interesting High Banker. I just got the GS Junior from Gold Slueth xD....lol
Very nice built high-banker, it makes sense the way you explained it. What size pump do you use? Thanks for the video. Good Luck in 2020 from The Lone Star State of Texas, USA.
Wallie that's amazing the lazy river section crazy cool bud your are truly a master fyi I been paying attention to you for yrs I'm not sure why I wasn't subscribed I used to be utube acts stupid mate great engineering excellent.
Thanks for watching mate and glad that you enjoy some of the vids. Hope luck has been following you around. All the best...Wal.
Thank you Wal your the best mate I hope luck is always following you to :)
Awesome... Thanks!
I might have a few questions when I build one.
Hope I can find any additional information I might need on the forum you listed.
I'll post a video of it in action on one of my claims.
Hope you don't mind if I give the credit of the box to both?
Love watching you guys... I feel like I'm on vacation when I do! Lol...
Cant wait to see more from you guys!!!
Keep Rocking....
Thanks for the kind words MN and sorry to not respond earlier. Been out prospecting and getting some footage for the next vid. If you need any information don't hesitate to send me a private message. All the best, ...Wal.
Very nice!
Can you use a high banker on any river in Victoria?
Excellent vids!!!
Thanks for watching herby and hope some of the principals are of use to yourself. You need to look at the list of rivers closed to prospecting, and this is only a few mainly in national park or conservation areas. The majority of rivers and creeks are OK to highbank though. Best of luck with it.....Wal.
I really like the look of your high banker Walt. Planning on building my own as well. Question.....what are the measurements of the openings on the mesh you use? Also, I may have missed this on the video, but what thickness is the aluminum you are using for the sluice and hopper?
Thanks for sharing you great looking High banker.
Thanks for watching tri, and hope you find some of the principles useful. The vid shows my Sapphire version and the gold version is much the same only with sloped expanded mesh instead of strait sided mesh. The mesh is 12mm high with a spread width of 7cm. The sluice and hopper is made from 1.6mm aluminium to keep the weight down for portability. Good luck with your build and hope the gold cooperates for you....Cheers Wal.
Nice set up, what would this sale for ???
NICE ONE WALT ONE OF MY FAVORITE VIDEOS AND VERY WELL EXPLAINED I'M IN UK AND CANT GET THE BREAD TRAY THINGS OR THE DIAMOND SHAPE CATWALK MESH SO I MADE IT I
I COULDNT GET THE CARPET SO I MADE IT ALSO I CANT WAIT TO USE IT WHEN THE SNOWS GONE THANKS KEITH
That's fantastic to hear Keith as it must give you a lot of satisfaction to build all the components from scratch. Hope luck is on your side and that the gold cooperates with you. All the very best of luck, Wal
Good man, good teacher, thank you your very smart .
Beautiful wal
+king bobby ....Hope you found it interesting bobby. Cheers Wal.
Hay Wal...how much to knock me up one of you highbankers??👍🇦🇺
Leeman Eastham ...thanks for watching and hope some of the info was of use to you. Had a few health problems lately so not able to build any more bankers for a while. Cheers Wal.
G'day Wal n Liz. After viewing your highbanker in this video, I built two. One for me and one for my best mate. We go out regularly together. The difference this design has made is amazing! Not only has it more than quadrupled the amount of gold we get but we are also finding some nice sapphires and other gems. On this last point, is there instruction videos on how to identify gems in the field? Cheers, David
Glad you are successful with your builds David. I will soon be posting a vid on how i personally run my bankers, showing variations to suit different areas. I will try to add some info on gem identification on this vid as well. All the very best of luck out there in the field mate...Cheers Wal.
Thanks, that would be great!
am also lookingfor places I can try in nsw and not hard to access by standard commodore lolwhich dont require to much of a walk due to disabilities which may make some areas difficcult to access.. jokingly says" I currently just build and repair trailers so if you ever need a trailer for all your gear talk to me I'll look after you or anyone you pass on to me ;) maybe build a recirculating tromel /sluice tailer " but seriously thanks for your videos they are great to watch and learn panning
i love seeing your country,, thanks ,,wali
Thanks Robert. We'll try to incorporate a few more scenery shots in our future vids. All the best, Wal
hi wal, i built this box and i must have not heard the part where if only going for gold use the sloped and not vertical mesh, is this primarily so that the riffles are cleared quicker?? because i think i may be loosing some gold due to having the vertical mesh "too full", about 50% to be honest?
Hi guys, im just wondering what would be the best type of highbanker/sluice for picking up sapphires? Greatly appreciated, thankyou
Wal, you are a genius! Great Video!, but my little GS 'junior' will merely be using a little garden trowel......i hope it works!
Where can I buy one of these units all built ?I live near Chicago,USA. I accidentally found a large sapphire crystal in my grizzly bar style highbanker recently while highbanking for gold, ONLY because I had perforated square hole metal in place of the bars with 3/4 inch holes and it got stuck there.
Thanks, great videos by the way, keep up the excellent work.
-Tom V.
BNSF2011 Thanks for watching BNSF. I have a very limited number for sale through Detecta Den in Canberra, Australia. All the very best...Wal.
Hi Mate great job, don't know were in Australia you are but here in WA we can't use a powered pump for prospecting :(
gaz ed Thanks for watching gaz. We're in NSW and do much of our prospecting in the East.Take care over your way and all the very best...Wal.
Great vid Wal!! Thanx mate.
+john gotti ....Hope you enjoyed the vid John and hope all is going great over your way. All the best...Wal.
Wal nLiz Thanx Wal alls well mate! I enjoy all your vids wish i could tag along for a prospecting trip!!
Thanks for watching sjovmaiin, check out our other vids and you will find some with gold and gemstones...all the best ..Cheers Wal.
G'day Wal nLiz, I currently have a river sluice box I converted into a recirculator with a 12V 2000GPH bilge, capped with a plastic hopper and spray bars but I'm totally over that design big time! I have to classify down to around 7mm through improvised gear that's just doing my head in.. Next stage is highbanker and I'm going to build one like yours.. What kind of pump are you using? Would would you recommend to run 20M flat hose and still get enough flow to be flushing out the bottom of box?
Great vid mate
Thanks for watching and hope some of the ideas may be of assistance to you. All the very best, Wal
Hi Wal, Kevin here in California U.S.
You mentioned in your vid that you have vids demonstrating your design but I couldn't find them. Do you happen to have links to your other vids?
Rather Coool design by the way. I really like the spray bar idea. What do you think about a boiler box under the classifier, directly under the spray bars?
Kevin Cousins Hello Kevin, If you check out our vid on Gold Hi Banking Ancient River Wash ( Part One), you will see the banker in use. This is the Gold Version with the sloped expanded mesh in the sluice. The section directly under the spray bar in the lower box is a slick plate to separate the gold from the heavies before it enters the boiler section and then the fine gold catching crate. This particular spray bar slices the clay much more efficiently than a bar with holes drilled into it and creates far higher pressure and water volume to the wash area. Best of luck with your prospecting...Cheers Wal.
It's jus awesome! Thanks for doing a great job Sr. I'm gonna make one by my self. Cheers!
Thanks for watching Edgar and hope it your hi-banker is very successful for you. Cheers, Wal
hi wally I like watching your video's and thanks for an insite to building the sluice does it work as effective using an electric sump pump for a boat.I am looking into making a portable highbanker like yours and just curious about flow rate requirements..also have you tried the spongy material available as place mats and thicker versions being sold as camp matress liners/gym matts sold in junk shops, which have ripples placed about 1 cm apartand some as much as 5 mm apart as matting? cont..
Also, what kind of pump and generator do you use? Thanks in advance for you help.
When using the spray pipe- do you ever get material that clogs that spray pipe?
Thanks for watching Patroni. I have never had a blockage and have worked in some quite weedy streams. If ever you were to get a blockage, the end cap on the spray bar unscrews easily and the blockage could be quickly removed. Cheers, Wal
Hi Wal nLiz.
Bought your Wal Banker from DetectaDen. I have a couple of queries. The one I bought has 45 degree aluminium mesh. You say not to use that use 90 degree walkway mesh? Second. The gold capture are witht eh bread crate on top is 35cm long rather than your specified 58cm? Is this correct or have I bought a dud? Thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting Trevor. The vid only shows one of the five different configurations I use for different areas. I tune my personal bankers to handle various gravel makeups, especially in areas where there's a lot of ironstone or spinel / garnet within the wash.
The ones I sell commercially are the same as I use myself for 90% of the locations i prospect, and are tuned for high ironstone wash localities. This Banker gives the best overall efficiency without having to interchange screens.
If you got yours from Detecta Den it will be one made by myself and has been tuned to it's optimum overall performance for Australian conditions. Would love to get some feed back from you once you've had it out on the stream, as I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
All the best of luck out there on the stream mate....Cheers Wal.
hi what size pump do you use in your high bankerrhigh I have made one and running a 140 L per min pump but I don't know if I have good flow thanks for all your vids ive watched them all thanks
goodiescars Thanks for watching goodiescars. We use a pump that delivers 240L/min on our units. The banker will run efficiently on about 180L/min and that equates to about 3/4 throttle on our pump. To run much less than 180L/min would make the spray bar pressure a bit on the light side. Best of luck on the gold and hope luck follows you around on the gold fields. Cheers Wal.
Hi Wal nLiz, Love your videos, I’m just starting out with prospecting, got the bug from lightening ridge and inverell and your videos. I noticed back in 2013 you were selling the Walbanker on detectaden but it’s no longer there now. Is there anywhere else it can be purchased from?
Glad you enjoy some of the vids Ross. I use to sell some but found that the manufacturing was taking up too much of my prospecting time so stopped making them for sale. The build is not that difficult and i have the specifications and a very substantial thread in the DIY section of Prospecting Australia Forum which I use to be a member of. Have a look on there and it will give you a lot of help if you want to build one for yourself. All the very best...Wal.
Thanks mate, all the best with the prospecting, appreciate the assistance!
Wal nLiz
Hi nice videos!I realy like watching yours films and i have a question.Do you know gems like you finds are in Poland?Where i can get informations about this?
TYVM Very informative
Hi Wal/LizHow can I get a set of your detailed plans for this high banker sluiceCheers Dennis
Thanks for watching Dennis. If you get onto the Prospecting Australia web site you will see under the DIY section a comprehensive report on how to build the banker and a lot of info from both myself and a lot of other prospectors who have built this Banker. All the best...Wal.
To Wal nLiz Thank you very much
I have not read all the comments but I'm just wondering. I don't have a pump and probably won't have one for a while. would this config work as a river sluice?
Thanks for watching Alex. The crate set up will work with a section of sloped expanded in front of it. Vertical sided mesh needs quite a bit of water pressure to clear it so a pump would be necessary with that config. A sloped expanded with a wall size of around 10mm would better suit a river sluice. All the best of luck out there on the stream...Wal.
Wal could you tell me in this video what size of pump your using to make that kind of spray?
Thanks for watching Patric. I run a Honda wx15 and it delivers around 120 liters per minute. For this sort of highbanking you would need a pump that delivers around 100L/min to be able to get enough pressure to blast apart clay in the wash. Best of luck out there...Wal.
Just stumbled on this vid. I have been playing around making one from stuff I can scrounge or get cheap, for use when I go interstate of course as I live in Qld. Couple of questions. With the crate riffles, what types of water volume do you use. L/M / cm or how ever you rate it. In the vid of you using it in the field, you seemed to have what I call coarse gold rather than flour gold. All in ones perspective. How do you find it with minus 100 or minus 150? I will be having a look at the ones you sell pretty closely. Getting past the stage of making my own. Fun to begin with but then...... Also, Clark Rubber worth a look in for mats. They have a good range.
Geoff Lotton Thanks for watching Geoff. The crate section is extremely efficient on the finest of flour gold, and in one of the regions we work, flour gold is all that is on offer. Check out our vid "Highbanking with the boys", and you can see the unit being used on flour gold. Cheers Wal.
