I have no idea how this old video showed up in my new videos, but I must say I found it very entertaining. First, I love that mini highbanker. Wish I had a use for it just to get one. The pump “we’re ready to go” line cracked me up as we could see the empty lay flat at his feet. I think I made the same mistake of priming the pump first instead of last when I started a looong time ago. Doubt anyone will see this comment but I just had to stop in and say how much I enjoyed this video.
Not sure how I've been prospecting for 2 years without seeing any of Gary's videos - binge watching the whole channel now that I found it. Great information in each one, well edited, no BS. Thanks Gary!
35 years ago I used to occasionally go out on a Saturday or Sunday on my mountain bicycle with a gold pan and a small bottle and spend the day out panning for gold in small streams around Chico, Ca. These are some of the fondest memories of my youth, alone out with nature, cold water and simple exploration. During my 2 years of graduate school I only accumulated a little over half ounce of gold, but the memories are priceless. I use a wheelchair now and could never get to those places where I used to hike and bike, but your videos allow me to vicariously venture out occasionally again🤗 Thanks for the memories of being out with nature.
Dang, now that's what I'm talking about... a bunch of color in the pan after a day's work. I mean sure, we all love a day of activity in the wild and fresh air, but coming home with a tiny flake? Far more satisfying to end the day with a pan full of yellow. Nicely done.
Great videos. No bull, no ridiculous stereotypical old-timey prospector voice. Just good info. Finding good glacier gold in NY using techniques from your crevacing video.
i watch this video every day before i prospect. Gary is a pro, by following his advice i find gold every day. You are greatly appreciated two toes. Team Altantis- Rod
I have been watching your videos non stop for almost 2 weeks straight, I am from SC and hope to get an opportunity to prospect in the near future. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise, you are a wonderful teacher!
robert herlong dude I know it’s been a year since you commented this but I’m also from SC and I also am a beginner prospector and would like to know if you had any luck thanks!
Thank you for the lesson. You explain everything well. I’m hoping Santa might bring me a high banker but in the mean time I will continue watching RUclips learning and enjoy the start of my retirement with my new metal detector. Kind regards, Paul (Australia)
Hey Gary, great videos on gold prospecting. With your knowledge of metallurgy and geology, you really make it an adventure for the viewer as well. Good stuff.
Nice video, a wealth of information without excessive babble, music or sales pitch. In particular the adjustment of the pitch and the effect it had on the sand near the riffle resonated with me. Thanks for the info! Subscribed~
Hey two toes I just started looking at your videos and I thank you for all the tips and secrets to finding gold I'm new at this and I saw a video of you using a medal detector I have an 350 ACE gerret medal detector and was wondering if I can find gold in crevices in between rocks like you did on that one video or does it need to be a fancy one to do that ?
If it can handle the mineralization, you might be able to locate lead and iron targets. I don't think it will pick up the small nuggets but if you can find iron and dig out that spot you should be able to pick up some gold.
Thank you very much. That's the 1st video I've watched on gold. I live in a very good area to find gold and I would think with a simple box like the one you have I think a person could make a little money. So thank you for the good info on the basics.
Found your channel a couple weeks ago and enjoy the rivers you are working as I am an old Chico Kid, I hoping to move back to this area when ever the real estate sells in Alaska
Great video you found good gold. I'm 1 hour from Sierra Nevada Mountains and want to look for gold in the creeks with all the rain we having. I have a pan and metal detector. But this year want to sluice to move a lot more material in a short time. Your videos have great info and to the point no babbling and sales pitching.
Hey Two Toes! Just discovered your channel. Loving the videos. I was just thinking, if you and ol Jeff Williams got together and prospected you might take over the world :) His geological knowledge and your mining knowledge would be amazing put together. Keep up the great videos! I live near the Sequoia National park (no prospecting there!) but I'm doing some research on places to prospect outside of the park.
I learned how to pan for gold on the Tuolumne River about 56 years ago. I don't know where we were on the river. My dad and his friend Bill, my brother and I went down there to fish. After a several days of fishing my brother and I were board of fishing, so Bill taught us how to pan. I still remember the gold we found, I would guess it was around a quarter of a ounce. Not sure how far of a drive that would be for you. I'm sure things may have changed in 50 years, but that is as far south as I have gone looking for gold. Good luck and thanks.
Neat story. I would probably end up bored from fishing too, especially since fish aren't near as shiny as gold. I'm still south of Tuolumne. I'm actually south of Fresno. Been doing lots of reading. I guess Merced River, Mariposa County and Fresno River/ San Joaquin River are my nearest hot spots. Should be interesting this summer. :) I'm not too far from Kern county also, might poke around there as well. Hopefully if I find some gold my boyfriend will get as excited about it as I am. ha!
I'm glad you have forceps, but also I use long, pointy-nosed tweezers which I machined down to suit my crevicing method. Sometimes after grubbing around and see a little sliver, only tweezers will do. Many thanks for producing this first class tutorial - Wendi
Thank You Sir, This video was very educational. I have done a little dredging, slucing, panning and metal detecting with very limited success. I have been wanting to try some high banking so thank you for the great pointers. I'll give you a 10+ on your presentations.
Just found your channel today. I'm a newbie but want to learn more about this. Have basic knowledge about mineralization and mining. Never mined gold though. Subscribed. Thanks for the info.
different types of brushes even different types of wire brushes are also a great tool to bring. (thanks @Pioneer Pauly for the wire brush idea!) and thank you @Two Toes for these great tips!!
Gday fro Australia Great video...thanks...says it all without information overload or bells n whistles carry-on.... a tonne of info ive gotten from your video and I like them all... Cant wait to get out and test out my Highbanker.
Man, I got into prospecting the year I left the sierra's...sheesh.. Im in Hot phoenix waiting for the cool off again... Great video, Thank You for posting!.
Really nice high banking tutorial. Thanks for putting this together. It would of been nice to have a bigger set up and some helpers so you could dig up those crevices better and run more of that good material. But them agin the more people in on a gold set up the more problems may occur.
That was a great video. Quite the Display of tools, especially the crevicing tools. Do you make or sell the longer tool with the spoon and pick ? Thanks 😎
Thank you Gary for this Hi-banker tutorial- great stuff! Could you have pulled Hi-banker closer to your work area? Would your pump have enough head pressure to go to a higher area? Look forward to more of your tutorials.
I could have gone a lot higher, but that hold was a great settling pond. I didn't want to make a mess on the hill side. Thank you for the support - and good luck.
Hey Gary - thanks again for the awesome video. I like that Proline; after my wife forgets about how much I paid for my gold detector, I think I may pick up one of those! Pretty darned sure I know where you were working, as my friend has a claim up in that area. Would be great to meet you down there sometime! We usually head down around the 4th of July for a couple of weeks and then if I can, I sneak away for another, late-Summer/early Fall trip. Best to you!
Thank you for your great vids! I have a 6.5 hp 2" pump on my highbanker. Many times I spend lots of time digging while the pump is running 3/4 throttle and I feel like I'm wasting fuel. Do you see any problem with slowly turning the throttle down for 20-30 minutes while I'm digging, then slowly ramping it up when I send the gravel through? Will that disrupt the eddy currents in the sluice? Thanks again.
I have never used it as a dredge, I have a small 2" backpack dredge I use for that. That high banker is one of my favorite pieces of equipment, it has great recovery and has never let me down Thanks - Gary!
This video was great instruction, had to subscribe right away. Keep up the good work and finding that gold! I know what I would be doing every weekend if I was in that area. Good stuff!
I would be finding gold every weekend - if it wasn't raining every weekend. Guess I shouldn't complain, we need the rain. But I still want to go prospecting. Thanks for the support!
I cant believe I have not seen this video from you till just now. That was cool I love these instructionals. How much did that bigger piece of gold weigh? Thanks for sharing.
This is one of my first videos. I had plans to weigh the gold when I got home, then put it in the video. I got the weight but totally spaced putting it in the video. Total weight was 2.6 dwt, the large piece was just under one penny weight. Ya, I know everyone weighs in grams, but I can't seem to make the change - old guy thing! Thanks - Gary
Great video, thanks. I have to ask, did you get your wingnut? It looked like you placed it in all of the rocks, but probably just the video angle. Thanks for sharing!
What is that tiny pump you're using? How long does it run on a (quart?) (gallon?) of gas? And what model and manufacturer is that small highbanker (including the classifying/cleaning grizzly box)? That's a cute little thing! I looked in the video heading above and on your website - but saw no info on the equipment! Getting your recommendations on the stuff you actually pack in and use yourself means a lot to the rest of us.
The highbanker is a 1 1/2" model and was made by Proline Mining Equipment in Coulterville, CA. They quit making them about 6 or 8 years ago. I have been trying to get them to make them again, he is thinking of making a run this fall. The Honda motor and pump is a experimental unit, it was never in production. There is a model one size larger, that is in production.
That was one of my first videos, I now make sure to weigh the gold now. I usually have it at the end of the video. I went back and checked my records, it looks like I got 2.6 dwt. Thank - Gary
part two of mercury removal had the same thing, no closed caption, please put cc on your videos. my sound jack plug in on my computor is shot and i have no sound.and i like your chit.
Gary, I ordered a 22 oz. Estwing rock pick hammer based upon your recommendation for a quality tool. I appreciate my other Estwing tools because they are forged, tempered steel and have soft grip vinyl handles. My Estwing pry bar is an indispensable tool.
Hey what if u spray heavy steam of water at side of hill put catch pan at bottom ?like big ops? & really pull nugs out im thinking!? but my thinking isn't always rite! Lol 🤷
Help me understand: with a running stream right there, why wouldn’t you sluice in the stream? If you were way up a dry arroyo, I could see bringing that pump, etc. Is the rationale that you don’t have to pre-classify your diggings? Is it that you can better tune your flow and angle?
To set up a sluice, there has to be the right conditions. If the water is running to slow or the stream is to deep you are unable to set up a sluice box. In addition the highbanker allows you to set up close to the gravel source. You don't have to spend a lot of time carrying the material down to the stream. Thanks - Gary
I found some old river deposits on a hill in Klamath, Oregon. By old I mean 10 million years give or take. It's cemented together and overlain by lava. Underneath is diatomite and ash and older lava. I have panned what's loose and found lots of black sand and 0 gold. I think there is gold in it but I can't cherry pick the old river course as it's sealed up in rock. I have access via many road cuts and old faults so I have a rough idea where the river was and wasn't. Should I look for bigger boulders and tunnel around under them a bit? I don't expect much but I'd like to at least have a few flecks lol. I did find some very tiny bones from fish and salamanders in the other layers so that's treasure enough, but I sure want to find some actual gold!
One of my many faults, is I like life in a rut. I am very resistant to change. I am still using the same sluice box I bought in 1970. I try to force myself to try new things. It took me a long time to give up my steel pan. Long story, short - I have not tried any of the Gold Hog equipment. I have a "if its not broke, don't fix it" mentality, and the sad part is I know there is a lot of great new stuff out there!
wish i lived in Cal and we could do some co-testing. i'm an old fart too, but have been as muuch impressed with Doc's Gold Hog lessons as i have been with yours.
+dean castello The highbanker is made by Proline mining out of Coulterville CA. It's a 1 1/2" model with a Honda wx10 pump. They discontinued this model a few years back but are thinking of bringing it back.
Two Toes, I am brand new to this. How in the world do I know where to go, or who will let me claim? It's kinda like hunting, unless you know someone, where can you go?
Start by doing some research. Locate the areas where gold has been found. Then take a trip to the area. If the area is claimed there should be signs in the area. If not you are free to check it out as long as its not privet property. If it's claimed the owners contact info should be there. You can contact them for permission, you will find most miners are very nice people. If you are polite and clean up after yourself you should have no problems. Thanks - Gary

These videos are hands down the most informative and well shot videos on gold on RUclips. Thanks two toes!!

This has to be the best info on high banking on the internet. Thanks so much Gary . Priceless advice.
Hey Gary, great videos on gold prospecting. With your knowledge of metallurgy and geology, you really make it an adventure for the viewer as well. Good stuff.
At 25:00 "TINK" beautiful noise. Like music to a panner. Great video, thank you Sir.
Got to love it! Thanks - Gary
Your video’s rock! Thank you so much! Nice to learn from someone who obviously knows what the hell they are doing!
Thanks for the experience. I missed this beginning and didn't see the motor model or size but I went back and seen the intro .Very informative.

Thank you Gary for this Hi-banker tutorial- great stuff! Could you have pulled Hi-banker closer to your work area? Would your pump have enough head pressure to go to a higher area? Look forward to more of your tutorials.

I forgot to put the weight of the gold found that day in the video - it was 2.6 dwt.
It is 4.04 grams - I am try to learn metric, the only ones using dwt. is old guys like me!
Cool, thanks.
Two Toes hello where did you get your pump at??
Is this still allowed in California?
@@chucklotro8749 with the way things are going , breathing without paying the air tax gonna be frowned upon soon in california.
that's what I allways say about the Australian bush.who would want to be indoors when we have so much to be thankfull for out in the country and bush

Enjoyed your video. When are they going to come up with a siluce box that pans the gold out ?
Thank you Garry. That Proline is a short highbanker. Great recoveries. Would you know how it performs in its dredge configuration on finer gold?
I have never used it as a dredge, I have a small 2" backpack dredge I use for that. That high banker is one of my favorite pieces of equipment, it has great recovery and has never let me down Thanks - Gary!
great video! i was really surprised of the outcome. where could i get a highbanker like that but bigger for a 2 person crew?
Proline Mining makes a great 2 inch highbanker, it will keep 2 people busy. Thanks - Gary

That was one of my first videos, I now make sure to weigh the gold now. I usually have it at the end of the video. I went back and checked my records, it looks like I got 2.6 dwt. Thank - Gary
Gary, please give us specs on that little bitty pump.
That is a small pump that Honda makes, it pumps about 30 gallons a minute.
Very good Video learn a lot Can do what you are doing New York Owns the Gold. I got to move out of New York

I am going to learn how to do the closed captions this fall, when I get a bit more time!
Great video Gary, thanks for posting it.
Those high bankers look fun to use. Nice bit of color too. Are they legal to use in California?
They are right now. I'm sure as soon as the state finds out how much fun they are - they will outlaw them. Thanks - Gary

Gary, what are your thoughts on Gold Hog equipment, especially their mats?
One of my many faults, is I like life in a rut. I am very resistant to change. I am still using the same sluice box I bought in 1970. I try to force myself to try new things. It took me a long time to give up my steel pan. Long story, short - I have not tried any of the Gold Hog equipment. I have a "if its not broke, don't fix it" mentality, and the sad part is I know there is a lot of great new stuff out there!
wish i lived in Cal and we could do some co-testing. i'm an old fart too, but have been as muuch impressed with Doc's Gold Hog lessons as i have been with yours.
Good stuff Gary keep up the channel 👍
Great stuff! Keep it simple folks!
Now this I really like wow what's the price for one of those wow thanks !!
When they are beening made they run around $1000.
What cc is the pump? I have a strimmer engine like it and I'm wondering if it will work for a pump. I think it's a 35cc.👍💛
Im very impressed thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
You do a great job teaching. Thanks.
Thank you very much!
I would like to know more about that high banker
+dean castello The highbanker is made by Proline mining out of Coulterville CA. It's a 1 1/2" model with a Honda wx10 pump. They discontinued this model a few years back but are thinking of bringing it back.
it looks perfect for a small setup where you have to hike to get to.
Great info Gary! Thanks for sharing your passion!
one of the best videos, great job teaching thanks you!!!
Thank you very much.
Thanks for all your information joe
I think a tiny dustpan and something like a paintbrush can come in handy especially when crevacing. Just my opinion
Tclawson, Where are you located?
