Angels Landing | FULL HIKE - Zion National Park

- On this day (December 2017), I hike/climb Angels Landing in Zion National Park in the state of Utah. This mountain at its highest peak is at 5,790 feet (1,765 meters), and the trail begins at the Grotto drop off point. It’s one of the most famous and thrilling adventures in Zion anyone could experience. Although, since 2004, six individuals have died falling from the cliff. That being said, it’s a one in a life time experience, one must have.

*****06/2022 Update: 6 years later I was copyrighted. Really, 6 years later? I just muted all the sounds and the video won't be as entertaining now. Perhaps, I'll upload the same video from 2017 at a later time. Here's a thought, if the copyright owner is making a profit off a video that is copyrighted on RUclips, shouldn't the video creator who made the video/content legally own half of the profits, if any was made in the process?

I couldn't go back down again. Terrible. I'd have to live up there. 😨
I first did this hike when I was 10 years old and was dumbfounded how beautiful it was, one thing I remember as a 10 year old is how careless you’d have to be to even come close to falling off this trail, I Remember the chains seeming unnecessary and in fact didn’t use them, not as scary as u think people
One of my favorite hikes challenging but well worth it ❣️❣️
Thank you for posting these awesome images! This is one of the scariest hike I’ve ever seen...i could never do such a thing!I suffer from vertigo and I also struggle to watch the video...I think I would shatter instantly! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻ciao
Thank you.
It's not bad at all..just the angle
Thanks for posting the complete hike..V useful. I am doing it day after tomorrow by myself. Your video gave me some confidence🙂
This was terrifying to watch. I am so scared of heights, not my cup of tea. You are a brave soul. The scenery was like out-of-this-world
I'm with you! I almost puked when he got to the chain rail! Nope, no, never, ever, no way, no how, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!! My roof gutters are too high for me, I hire a guy to clean them.
@@pinkpriss for some reason I love heights bu hate airplanes, airplanes for me I can hardly go on, but cliffs and such I can handle all day. I have been to the edge of canyon lands, the Grand Canyon, angels landing, and a plethora of places in Colorado, but send me to a airport and I’m running away.
@@chrisrenemans5026 Wow! And I LOVE airplanes and flying. Yet about 30 stories of a building is all I care to stomach looking down from! Isn't that bizarre? Visiting the Grand Canyon as a child I was terrified to get within 100 ft of the edge for longer than ten seconds!
Hiked this May 2, 2021. What an amazing hike. Very crowded. Came home and found your video so I could relive it again. I like how you showed the full hike. A lot goes into the hike before you even begin to climb angles landing. We saw so many people turn back. We also saw a man carrying his 40 pound son in a special backpack to the top. The park doesn’t recommend this by the way. If people want to do this hike... do it soon. I’ve read that they are going to start limiting the amount of hikers in a given day.
How long did it take you? What time did you start the hike? I'm heading there next week lol
Done this once before and am planning on going this March. One of my favorite “sudden cliff hikes” if you will.
That is an extreme hike for me. I'm not worried of falling or scared of heights. I'm just probably too out of shape to make it all the way. That said, this hike is on my to do list so I am eventually going to get in better shape enough.
Loved the music especially during the second half to the end because it got me all pumped up and excited about hiking Angels Landing! Now, I only hear the music come on a few times and my excitement is gone! 😂
The music was free, but I was copyrighted two years after the video was uploaded. Muted the music that was once free.
@@BIGROG that is ridiculous. Feel like if someone is gonna claim a video, they should do it within a week or two, not a year or two
Great full perspective, from your camera, of this hike. I am studying your footage for my own hike up angels landing. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you.
@@BIGROG One last thing. Is there decent traction on the rocks, near the edge? Im not sure if I should go with hiking boots or regular cross trainers. Thanks.
@@frankchavez7973 ...It depends on the season. During the Winter, I would highly suggest renting or buying spikes during your adventure. As for any other season, your options of cross trainers or hiking boot will do just fine. Always be carefully though.
From the bottom of my HEart, thank you Big Rog for sharing this great Moment in that so amazing place, i've never been there but somehow i know i've been there with someOne so precious to my heart.. the most difficult way is the most Beautifull when we realize what we've Done and so you can be proud of you Big Rog :-D as I am of doing it .. our way. Oh, and this chain.. anyway, take care of yourself great shadow walker to keep enjoying the beauties and strengh of Nature !
Thank you and be safe when enjoying the beauties nature.
Best Video of Angels Landing Ever! Awesome!
It’s my dream to get there.. Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Thank you.
Unfortunately the chain part is closed because of COVID. :(
Just went over the weekend.
I miss Zion
The views up there. Are Epic
Nice video !
It really is and thank you.
So badass!
You're so brave and strong 💪 I'm so afraid of heights that I will pass.
Thanks for posting. Epic views and epic bravery to do this hike, happy to watch from Scotland.
Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I hiked Scout Lookout 👀 November 13, 2023. As you know the end of Scout Lookout is the start of Angel’s Landing. I had no permit so I sat in warm fall sunshine and chatted with the ranger about the hike. She said it’s fun and dangerous. She was checking permits and training two people to check permits. 2024 permits are available now, before Christmas, or more precisely you can apply for a permit. Ranger said 400 permits a day by reservation, and 400 by next day lottery. Here’s my question for you: the thumbnail photo is here for a reason. It’s a dangerous section of the trail. Is it an optical illusion, camera angle, or is the small section as dangerous as it looks. It looks like the Park service should never allow anyone on the trail. And yet, people out of shape do Angel’ s Landind, people with terrible footwear do it, stupid careless people do it. People with different fear levels do the trail. People with no fear mock people that have fear;and that’s a terrible attitude. So, honest answer please, how scary is the hike? It scares me, and I was a commercial fisherman in Alaska. We kept working in rough seas. Thanks for an answer. Merry Christmas and healthy new year.
I took a 10 day trip through the Southwest, unfortunately I didn't manage my time right and I had to skip on Zion, plus I was unaware about the permits that are months in advance. I am definitely taking another southwest tour and Zion, Angel's Landing and the Narrows are a must.
great vid man. Nice first person point of view. I feel like I'm the one climbing and I feel tired , scared and exhausted watching LOL..
Thank you.
@@BIGROG want to meet up and hike the landing? Once at the top we fight. I'm pretty sure I can take you without even breaking a sweat. I'm willing to wager $5k. Interested?
I love your video because it shows your hike from the grotto drop/shuttle's drop off till you reached to the very top of Angel's Landing . It shows the whole view of the hike. My daughter and I went there last March 9,10 and 11th, 2018 . We did the full hike but I stopped at the chain. I'm afraid of height ,but my daughter did exactly/everything you did, climbed to the very top of Angel's Landing. I wanted to see what obstacles she had to go through while up there and watching your video gives me complete understanding and view on how DANGEROUS it is on top which also gives me that cringe feeling all over my body, Anyone who has this on their " Bucket List " and achieved/did it is the " Crowning glory " of that bucket list because not everyone can do it. You have to have the mindset, physical endurance, good balance, brave and most of all, you have to be fearLESS of height. Also, I love the suspense-sound-like-background music that you use on this video from beginning till you reached to the top. Then, you changed the music to a " milder " sound once you reached the top. AWESOME !! Thank you for this AMAZING video, Mr. Big Rog !
No, thank you.
This looks epic but also a bit sketchy some parts just look scary part of me wants to do it, the other part says going up will be pretty scary but going down even worse lmao seeing so many people do it though makes you think it might not be that bad 🤔 any tips or advice for first time climbing this?
V impressive video I like your video very much this is really fantastic I seen ever.you did good job. Weldone 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video I'm going back this summer ,hopefully I can make it to the top. Which camera did you use
Thank you. Sony Action Cam AS200VR
Thanks for the video this is the best I seen so far I'm afraid of hights so I just watch videos
Thank you.
I did this like last year with a college friend it was amazing and exhausting. You might think you're in shape until you do something like this and realize how quickly you aren't.
Yeah, I once before did a hike about twice as difficult as this, and the entire first part was downhill, so I had to get back up. It was not fun and a mistake I won’t forget. I am not an inexperienced hiker or anything but just bit off a bit too much at once. I forget which, but it was one of the hikes down to the river in Grand Canyon.
Hiked this today. Didnt do the chain part but clearly the hardest hike I've done yet.
Great Video! All together how long did it take you?
It took me 4 to 4.5 hours total.
Wow 😳 I would never do this! Beautiful tho
Love your videos bro. What video capture device are you using?
Thank you. I was using Sony at the time, however, they have not upgraded their action cams for sometime now.
I really enjoyed your video. I would like to try to climb up Angels Landing, too. Do I need special boots for it? Do you have any recommendations?
Get a pair of gloves for sure and depending on the weather, I would buy or rent some spikes for your shoes.
Thank you very much for your advice. I hope I can get the top of Angels Landing, too...
Anytime and you will.
I hiked up angels landing yesterday in chacos!
This is my favorite place to go. 😁
what's the song of video? thanks
During the climbing of mountains your speed was very fast Mashallah
Which Camera Mount were you using for the Gopro? Getting ready to do this hike and trying to figure out the best angle and mount location. Chest vs Hat vs Head Strap.
That year, I was using the Sony Action Cam and whatever you decide for the mount is your personal preference. Good luck and be safe on the hike.
Which hiker has the right of way when passing in opposite directions on narrow trails like Angel's Landing? Unsure if there's an etiquette that should be followed. For example, should the person ascending, step closer to the edge in order to make room for a person descending? Does it maybe depend on which person has the longer arm reach? What courtesies should be considered? Also, I'm interested in opinions on the best types of shoes and gloves to wear when hiking this in December when there's patchy snow & ice. Also, does the trail have certain spots that are prone to have snow and ice on specific spots where hikers will need to step? I did not see that situation in this video but the video is also edited, so it's still an unknown for me.
This is kinda late, but the person hiking up always has the right of way. That's how it is on pretty much any trail. On a popular trail like this, people may not abide by those rules though.
There is an etiquette, but this youtuber is not the right person to ask, IMO.
Normally the person going up has the right away, but I’m not entirely sure if that would apply here due to it being a bit more dangerous going down.
@@chrisrenemans5026 I agree that due to the fall hazard, it seems that the person heading down the path would have right of way. Similarly, if a vehicle was traveling down a mountain, and another was traveling up a mountain, I would tend to think the vehicle traveling down the mountain would have right of way. BTW, I already went to Zion and hiked to the trailhead for Angel's Landing, which begins at Scouts Lookout. After hiking roughly 50 yards on the Angel's Landing trail, I decided to turn around and not complete the hike. Every step of the way is a perilous fall hazard --- not an exaggeration.
What type of shoes do you recommend tennis shoe type to climb
No, I do not recommend that type of style. I would suggest something with good traction/grip. I would search on the web hiking shoes.
is the trail concrete or packed in clay
How much time does the hike take back and forth? Does it depend on the time/season? Thanks
It depends on the individual, but if one is out-of-shape and takes a lot of breaks.... I'm guessing no more than 6-6.5 hours.
Great video. We just finished hiking to Scouts lookout. That was enough!
Thank you.
A wonderfull video. Bleibt leider ein Traum für mich . BIG THX
Music gave me a headache, otherwise it was great.
lol I'm 5 min in and its getting old like watching end credits.... maybe some classic rock would be a good transition
Agree. it's so loud I couldn't hear what anyone was saying during the hike.
Did your battery last the whole hike? How big is your SD card?
No, I always carry extra batteries and SD cards just to be safe. But in this situation, I used 2 batteries and two SD cards (64GB).
Your behavior toward other people, while passing, is inexcusable.
I agree. Total disregard for the comfort ans safety of others.
I agree...I thought that even BEFORE I read your comment....he’s just balls off “U TAKE THE EDGE BUSTER!” attitude sux....
How long did it take you to get to where the chains are? Thank you
I think it took me an hour or two to get to the chains up on the mountain, but I'm not sure or nor do I remember.
BIG ROG, we're planning a trip there, two hours is more than enough for us. Thank you for responding
Now I can say i did this vicariously. I mean he'll NO would I even consider this
Doesn't look bad at all.
i loved zion but i was terrified to go on that trail
Loved that place!! I'm from India. One day I'll definitely visit this place. Also come to my country!Thank u!!!!
Superb! It seems you were running all the way ! What was the up and down timings? I love to trek Angels Landing during my next visit to USA.
Honestly, I do not recall, however, I'm glad you enjoyed the hike. I'm sure your adventure would be great when you go.
11:49
foot slipped and almost died here. fun time though
The climb up wasn't too bad it's going down was the hard part for me.
Yeah going up is more tiring, but going down is more dangerous.
Recently I am watching hiking videos , it looks like this video is the best of them....but people's risk taking scares me...Google says there have been 13 fatalities here since 2004 due to falling from the cliffs ... 10:13 part is really scary
when you put it in context of how many people have successfully finished it, the number is very small.
how long is the entire hike
Honestly, I do not remember, but it depends on your conditioning, weather, and the environment to hike the trail. If I had to guess, 7-8 hours total.
I def wouldn’t want you behind me on this

Great video! However, there's not enough chains up there to persuade me to take the hike.
Thanks and fair enough.
I Need to Fix Last Music. 1st and 2nd is work and last music is not working
The music was free but was copyrighted 2 years later. Therefore, it was muted.
I just hiked this earlier today. It was a lot of fun minus where a narrow passage of the rock wall partly destroyed my backpack. When we made it to the top a group of people were smoking cigs, so I wasn't up there as long as i would've liked
oh, your one of THOSE
@@wilfredcoc9603 no...YOURE one of THOOOOSE!
Y would u climb like that and then RUIN IT by smoking a cigarette? Shameful
What happened to the sound at 33 minutes????
The video was copyrighted 2 years later when it was uploaded. My question would be, why now? The music was free.
I do believe the majority of us know why these people are dying
The background was unnecessary. There was more than enough tension just watching the climb. You are braver than me.
I feel bad for the person who put the chains there.
I feel bad that there are chains, eroding the rock. Let people do it without chains. It would certainly make for fewer people up there.
I feel bad for them too. It was a whole crew. They should be proud of their work. They did a good job. I know some of them.
They were mostly nice. It was not possible to distract them from this mission. It was a good job.
I did not like hanging out with a gang of 30s old guys wondering about life, especially because these guys had all the gear.
I learned that they are pretty cut throat with each other.
They had a bad attitude about plants. They were not respectful of older people and foreigners.
It is good enough for me to hike with my kids up to chain session. Why bother to the top
How long does this hike take
Nice video. It would be better without the music though.
It's not scary at all. I did it and I'm kind of a wimp. At no point did I think I was going to slip or fall. The scariest part is what if I sprain my ankle and bust my knee going up this?
Nice video, music too loud though…detracts from scenery
Noted.
Could have done without the music
The music is terrible. Silence is better.
..and that annoying music
