  • On this day (December 2017), I hike/climb Angels Landing in Zion National Park in the state of Utah. This mountain at its highest peak is at 5,790 feet (1,765 meters), and the trail begins at the Grotto drop off point. It’s one of the most famous and thrilling adventures in Zion anyone could experience. Although, since 2004, six individuals have died falling from the cliff. That being said, it’s a one in a life time experience, one must have.

    I first did this hike when I was 10 years old and was dumbfounded how beautiful it was, one thing I remember as a 10 year old is how careless you’d have to be to even come close to falling off this trail, I Remember the chains seeming unnecessary and in fact didn’t use them, not as scary as u think people

    Hiked this May 2, 2021. What an amazing hike. Very crowded. Came home and found your video so I could relive it again. I like how you showed the full hike. A lot goes into the hike before you even begin to climb angles landing. We saw so many people turn back. We also saw a man carrying his 40 pound son in a special backpack to the top. The park doesn’t recommend this by the way. If people want to do this hike... do it soon. I’ve read that they are going to start limiting the amount of hikers in a given day.

    Thanks for the video. I hiked Scout Lookout 👀 November 13, 2023. As you know the end of Scout Lookout is the start of Angel’s Landing. I had no permit so I sat in warm fall sunshine and chatted with the ranger about the hike. She said it’s fun and dangerous. She was checking permits and training two people to check permits. 2024 permits are available now, before Christmas, or more precisely you can apply for a permit. Ranger said 400 permits a day by reservation, and 400 by next day lottery. Here’s my question for you: the thumbnail photo is here for a reason. It’s a dangerous section of the trail. Is it an optical illusion, camera angle, or is the small section as dangerous as it looks. It looks like the Park service should never allow anyone on the trail. And yet, people out of shape do Angel’ s Landind, people with terrible footwear do it, stupid careless people do it. People with different fear levels do the trail. People with no fear mock people that have fear;and that’s a terrible attitude. So, honest answer please, how scary is the hike? It scares me, and I was a commercial fisherman in Alaska. We kept working in rough seas. Thanks for an answer. Merry Christmas and healthy new year.

    I love your video because it shows your hike from the grotto drop/shuttle's drop off till you reached to the very top of Angel's Landing . It shows the whole view of the hike. My daughter and I went there last March 9,10 and 11th, 2018 . We did the full hike but I stopped at the chain. I'm afraid of height ,but my daughter did exactly/everything you did, climbed to the very top of Angel's Landing. I wanted to see what obstacles she had to go through while up there and watching your video gives me complete understanding and view on how DANGEROUS it is on top which also gives me that cringe feeling all over my body, Anyone who has this on their " Bucket List " and achieved/did it is the " Crowning glory " of that bucket list because not everyone can do it. You have to have the mindset, physical endurance, good balance, brave and most of all, you have to be fearLESS of height. Also, I love the suspense-sound-like-background music that you use on this video from beginning till you reached to the top. Then, you changed the music to a " milder " sound once you reached the top. AWESOME !! Thank you for this AMAZING video, Mr. Big Rog !

    Which hiker has the right of way when passing in opposite directions on narrow trails like Angel's Landing? Unsure if there's an etiquette that should be followed. For example, should the person ascending, step closer to the edge in order to make room for a person descending? Does it maybe depend on which person has the longer arm reach? What courtesies should be considered? Also, I'm interested in opinions on the best types of shoes and gloves to wear when hiking this in December when there's patchy snow & ice. Also, does the trail have certain spots that are prone to have snow and ice on specific spots where hikers will need to step? I did not see that situation in this video but the video is also edited, so it's still an unknown for me.

    • @joshwood3
      @joshwood3 4 года назад +2

      This is kinda late, but the person hiking up always has the right of way. That's how it is on pretty much any trail. On a popular trail like this, people may not abide by those rules though.

    • @l.levalley921

      @chrisrenemans5026 2 года назад +2

      Normally the person going up has the right away, but I’m not entirely sure if that would apply here due to it being a bit more dangerous going down.

    • @RedondoBeach2
      @RedondoBeach2 2 года назад +1

      @@chrisrenemans5026 I agree that due to the fall hazard, it seems that the person heading down the path would have right of way. Similarly, if a vehicle was traveling down a mountain, and another was traveling up a mountain, I would tend to think the vehicle traveling down the mountain would have right of way. BTW, I already went to Zion and hiked to the trailhead for Angel's Landing, which begins at Scouts Lookout. After hiking roughly 50 yards on the Angel's Landing trail, I decided to turn around and not complete the hike. Every step of the way is a perilous fall hazard --- not an exaggeration.

    The background was unnecessary. There was more than enough tension just watching the climb. You are braver than me.

    I feel bad for the person who put the chains there.

      I feel bad that there are chains, eroding the rock. Let people do it without chains. It would certainly make for fewer people up there.

      I feel bad for them too. It was a whole crew. They should be proud of their work. They did a good job. I know some of them.
      They were mostly nice. It was not possible to distract them from this mission. It was a good job.
      I did not like hanging out with a gang of 30s old guys wondering about life, especially because these guys had all the gear.
      I learned that they are pretty cut throat with each other.
      They had a bad attitude about plants. They were not respectful of older people and foreigners.

    It is good enough for me to hike with my kids up to chain session. Why bother to the top

    Nice video. It would be better without the music though.

    It's not scary at all. I did it and I'm kind of a wimp. At no point did I think I was going to slip or fall. The scariest part is what if I sprain my ankle and bust my knee going up this?

    The music is terrible. Silence is better.
