The first time I heard this song I was in the parking lot of my dr.'s office waiting to hear those word,"you have cancer". This song became my story for the next six months as my body was broken down with cancer, but built back up my the HOLY SPIRIT. I gave my healing body and spirit over to the glory of GOD. I have a relationship with HIM that I'd longed for for 40 years. I only had to ask and received his blessings and I used it all for HIS GLORY. God is good all the time.

This would be a very hard prayer to pray: "Make me broken"
Because we know that the ALL MIGHTY GOD could and would do just that. But, here is the catch. He would do it for 'our own' good. (Not to punish us)
He would break down every idol that we have made so important in our lives. Shoes, a new car, bling on my jeans, t.v., a fancy cup of coffee, even our spouse or kids. These are our "blessings"...not our God. These were given for us to love and enjoy...not to worship. I used to put so much importance on such things, and end up putting them 'first'. (which was putting "me" first..."my" stuff)
If we truely want to be about God and know him personally, ask Him to "Make 'me' broken" (so that 'I' can be healed)
"Make me lonely" (so that I can be 'yours')
Yes, a HARD prayer to pray...but the MOST beneficial prayer that you could EVER pray.

sidewalkprophets I have always loved this song but I do not sing it out loud (or even think it in my head). I have been broken, lonley and very empty. Definitely do NOT want to go through it again. But the representation of how Jesus makes you new and stronger(the lion) helps me remember that He does not abandon you.

For the past few years I have been broken and this past week I was broken to my very core. I felt empty with nothing to grasp and felt alone and forsaken. I heard this song last week, on the Christian Radio where I live and some of the words stayed in my mind; Broken, Empty and Lonely. Then on Friday I spent the day with a very dear friend of 36 years and we talked and I shared with her what I have been through. I kept telling her "I'm so broken and I don't understand why I'm going through this and when will I be delivered." She told me, yes you are broken, and God has a purpose for you. On the way back home the song came was played two times and I listened to it. When I arrived home I looked it up with the lyrics. God's way is so perfect. This song depicts me. I'm have been broken to my very core, so that I can be completely healed. I am empty so that He can fill me with His power and Spirit. I have been lonely so that I realize that HE is my ONLY true love. I fell to my knees and cried to God, thanking Him for my brokenness and for ALWAYS being there for me, even though at times I felt forsaken. Thank you Sidewalk Prophets for letting God inspire you with this song. God Bless you.

This is my favorite contemporary Christian band, and this what I strive for in life
God doesn't have to break us to teach us lessons if we get into the Word! That is how he molds us the easy way.
I was at my lowest back in March of this year. I remember telling my sister and close friends, I'm so broken, and I'm so lonely. Little did I know about this song, when on the Z radio the song would come on as I was driving. One particular day, on my 45 minute drive back home, the Z played the song 3 times! As I drove I listened closely to the lyrics and I heard the words, broken, empty and lonely. I went home and Googled the song and read the lyrics, then I played it on here and it was so profound the message God had for me. I believe this song was written for me. God knew what I needed. I continue to trust in God and ask him, "Keep Making Me" May this song be a blessing to everyone that hears it and may God "Keep Making" them too! God bless!

nnamdi nnorom Thanks for your comment. It seems like you have a misunderstanding of the lyrics. If anything we're asking God to "ruin" our distorted perceptions of who we think he is based on what society tells us. Some believe that life will be an easy road when we turn to Christ but it is NOT easy. Make me broken, make me empty, make me lonely are simply prayers to God to remove all that we "think" is important and replace it with HIM. Think of Jonah in a the belly of the whale or Job...they did not have the easiest of times on Earth but God brought them out of their experiences in to a new understanding of who He is.
Another thought on your comments because it is important to note. When we write songs we write them from the human perspective/experience. We are writing 100 percent from an open/vulnerable place in our lives. We believe that God is honored when we are real and honest and that is why we love creativity and art because it is a way for us to express of emotions (good, bad, ugly). Thank goodness for this! Hello :) If I may say, thank you for this song. If I were not going through what I'm going through right now, then I would have agreed with Nnamdi; I think I can see where he is coming from. Yet I know exactly what your song means, because I am hurting right now. I have been really broken for so many years with lots of hurt. Even since I had trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior 8 years ago, the pain has not gone away. I have never been completely healed because I (personally) have been running from God in letting Him heal me. I have done just what you have described: replacing what I think is important instead of going to Him to heal me. So many distorted perceptions...
Praise God that He has saved me from a lot of really bad "replacing."
So I know what it's like to need to remove things that don't really heal and to turn to Jesus. I heard this on the radio today for the first time and realized that I need to turn to Him.
Praise God for Him and His love, power, and salvation. I pray that we all realize who He is and that He really does heal. He really does love us, and He provided a Savior, Jesus Christ, and we can turn to Him right now for all of our brokenness. John 3:16-18

I am Catholic myself and I absolutely adore this song. Not even during mass or service, I sit in the church with my guitar and lift up this song to God. He truly has helped me morph me into what I am today. I am still broken, but that's ok...who isn't? Nobody is perfect, we are unique works of art.

I love this song when I got saved in Feb 2014 I made this my Prayer I heard a radio interview with you saying it started out as a prayer and I thought Wow!! I have fallen in love with God since then soo much I have been baptized and I am amazed by what God does for me on a daily basis I decided that no matter what happens I will chose God and I will praise him and if I am lonely I know I am not because God is there and God had to break me to make me see him so I am greatfull for songs like this that help me see the real purpose for certain things that God allows in our Lives everything we do we are supposed to do it to Glorify God and you certainly do with your songs Thank you for being my first worship leaders

i find myself singing this song but not actually recognizing and realizing the truly meaningful and powerful lyrics. When we're broken, lonely, or empty, it usually makes us feel down and sometimes possibly even mad at God, but it's Him trying to call us in and having us realize only He TRULY can satisfy. Lord... please keep making me... I need you..

This is exactly where I am in my walk with God. I have asked Him to make of me whatever He will. But I really must confess, this process REALLY is a breaking. I have continually held on to my will for SO LONG, even all the while knowing that God has much better things in mind for my life. Now the chastisement that He is subjecting me to hurts UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAVE EXPERIENCED. I am so lonely, so empty...

Just discovered this gem. Wonderful message once again by Sidewalk Prophets. It is amazing how God speaks to us through the lyrics of this song. His ways are mysterious, but He keeps knocking at the door of our hearts. Songs like this cause the door to swing open wide and say "Come in my Savior. Why did I wait so long."

i am a new fan recently in January I almost died but before I had a dream in my dream a great lion and boar fought the great lion won i had this dream for 3 nights on January the 9 at 3 am i had to call the ambulance because i thought my left lung had collapsed turns out i had multiple blood clots in my lungs they said if i had waited even a hour later my daughter would have possibly woke up to find me gone. That was four months ago I celebrated my 33rd birthday February 21st and i got to give my daughter her 9th birthday party on March 3rd I am so honored that I serve a living God and I am glad that he continues to change me and make me like him keep doing what ya'll do love the music

I know right. Amazing song and video. The song is so close to my heart. I thought at one point that I was about as broken as I was going to ever get in my life. I had no one BUT Jesus that i could trust and knew HE loved me. I still knew i wasn't humble enough. I cried out to Jesus to make me humble. I wasn't concerned with how he was going to do it because I knew He knows best and what we need to grow stronger in our faith.

I have to say that I loved this song from the first moment I heard it - and hated it. Because I have been all those things- lonely broken empty and my humanness never wants to be those things again. But it always amazes me how God brings us to those places over and over to show us His great power. I found myself over the past few weeks waking with the words in my head. And it just so happens that we are going through some stresses right now- nothing earth shattering but enough to know that He is making us broken so we can depend on His great resources more and more. Thank you for this and many other songs you have created in God's name.

To me this song was describing what I had to have happen before I put God first. I always put everything and everyone before him until one day I was so callous and broken and lost and desperate, I turned to the one thing that I needed at all times... God. And so today I ask God to literally keep reminding me of how lonely, how broken I was and how he still love me, how he was always the one... I do want him to keep me that desperate inside so he is all I depend on, all I need, so I never forget that. Because of him I have 4 years sober, my children love me, Im a good person today.

Love this song. It's about bringing yourself to that humble place where it is that we have let go of / cleared out all that junk and stuff that clouds or blocks us from the true light and tossed it out and filled ourselves with the Lord. It is a truly freeing feeling. To me, this song signifies that. (Also noted, when he entered the door Psalm 51 displayed on the door! Great touch!)
This is how you are forgiven when you try to be perfect in your own way to impress the other ones and the things get worse, so God loves us, He has made us as His image, and now he made a new creation on us.
