    Just about to get a Dean Speed drag bar second hand and new Wunderkind 30mm riser, was going to get new Wundrkind grips but after reading comment below re screw driver and plastic zip ties will try that first as I have big bear grip covers which are really comfortable so if I can save them I will save around $250.00 thus making conversion $500.00 instead of $750.00. Thanks for the vid watched it last night in the garage in preparation for the change and like you not an ape fan, to me they belong on Big Twins only IMO.

    Get yourself a Tap & Die set. You can use it to clean out the threads of screws and bolts in case you have overspray, or if you accidentally flattened some threads, or even cross threaded bolts and mounts can be repaired this way.

    Bar End Mirror Bungs?!?!? Wait what?!? I JUST ordered some Dean Speed Zero Drag bars for my Bobber and knew nothing of this. That wasn't an option or mentioned at any time. What will I need to do to get my bar end mirrors on the drag bars?

    • @Jimbobbington
      @Jimbobbington  Год назад

      Deanspeed used to welds bungs into their bars, but don't any longer. They sell a bar end adapter for something like $35-$40 that works great.

    • @AustinTate-e4s
      @AustinTate-e4s Год назад +1

      Yeah, I eventually called 'em and threw a few adapters in the cart. Got the drags installed and your review was spot on. The hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life was getting that original right grip off the throttle tube. I am pretty sure that grip was a day one employee at the factory being trained on how to install those and dipping the throttle tube in glue then spraying glue into the grip, then microwaving the tube with the grip on for 10 minutes to make sure they became one. Drag bar install: 12 minutes. Right Grip install: 6 hours of razor scraping and goo soaking insanity @@Jimbobbington

  • @xfrozenxphoenix9452
    @xfrozenxphoenix9452 2 года назад +1

    I know this is a year old, but a trick for the grips I learned myself, stick a screwdriver all the way through and follow it with a zip tie. Leave the zip tie in and pull out the screwdriver. Keep adding zip ties until it slides right off. Can do the same to put it on but you don’t need a screwdriver.

    • @Jimbobbington
      @Jimbobbington  2 года назад +1

      Interesting concept! I've definitely used a Screwdriver on chrome bars before just jamming it in and working out around since I wasn't worried about a powder coated finish.

    • @xfrozenxphoenix9452
      @xfrozenxphoenix9452 2 года назад +1

      @@Jimbobbington so the screwdriver basically just creates room for you to slide a zip tie into the grip between the grip and the bar. The zip tie now creates contact with the bar. Put enough zip ties in and it’s just plastic on the bar which lets it slide right off with no effort: I was getting so mad when I was changing grips before and I remembered I had zip ties lol
      so in theory, if you have something that is plastic but shaped like a screwdriver you could do it without having to worry about scratching at all. And because it’s just a straight in and out and not twisting or going around, you don’t have to worry about accidentally ripping the grips.

    • @warrensmith897

      Cool idea, an electricians insulated screw driver would be ideal by the sounds of it, is your comment relating to removing stock grips as I would like to keep mine when changing over with Big Bear grips on them which work really well.

    • @Jimbobbington
      @Jimbobbington  2 года назад

      If you ordered them from deanspeed and are sure you picked the Indian scout option, they should have the holes. I don't think any other company does this for you.
      A trick I've heard is to wrap painters tape around the bars where the controls go. Mount the bars then figure out the angle you want your controls. Squeeze the controls on the tape and you should get a dent in the tape from the pin in the controls and can easily see where you need to drill!
