- A ride and walk around tour of this wonderful little driver of an '82 320is that just went up for auction today at www.CarsAndBids.com paired with some conversation about it. Is the E21 the perfect middle ground between the New Class and the E30?
Good video on the 320i. I've had my '83 in Alpine White for 8 years. BTW, the sport package also included the sunroof and the am/fm/cassette player. The sport package included almost every stand-alone E21 option plus the air dam, LSD, Recaros, etc. Shocks and springs were the same as the base car. Comment on the "is" vs. "sport package." BMW NA never mentions "is" in their sales brochures and advertising and sport package-equipped cars did not have a rear badge. Where it gets a little muddied is on the window sticker. On my 83's the model is listed as a 320IS ($13,290) but further below it lists the 'S' package as an option for $2,620. Thank you BMW NA for adding to the confusion.
Not true Dave, the spring rate was different on the sport package. Have the window sticker to prove it!
@@Fahren_Freude I have the winder sticker stating the sport package has a "sport suspension" but it does not specify what comprises it. I also have a sales brochure stating the sport package includes different stabilizer bars. It says nothing about springs. I'd love to see your window sticker stating the sport package has different springs.
@@daves5716 I looked again and you’re correct. I misspoke. It denotes ‘sport suspension’ but that is accounted for in the larger diameter sway bars. Thanks! I felt foolish for scrapping my original springs when I went to H&R sports.
LOL, this video pops up on my RUclips page every now and again. And, I am the current owner. I redid the interior with old stock new fabric and added period correct a/c (with newer modern compressor and condensor...it blows cold). Otherwise, left the rest alone, but will repaint portions soon. Mostly my daily driver when the weather is nice as this car is scary in the wet.
Dude! Super glad to here you're doing well with it! Please tell me you've also replaced the tires by now? Very fun little car and I agree, with how "lively" the rear end is it can be a bit of a handful on damp tarmac.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be
banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine
and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027
on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any
longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. so beware of expensive cars today they will be forbidden and worthless tomorrow!!!! :-((((

I disagree, even if things tighten up, you can always Tesla swap your classic
EV swap it. Done.
You also get the limited slip diff and the 5 speed overdrive tranny

This particular one is cool ‘cause it has the a/c delete, which doesn’t cool much anyways and is noisy as all hell as it robs the motor of whatever little torque it has. Anywho, it makes for a nicer center console.
Well, unfortunately, I live in central Texas and not having a/c means we can only enjoy the car about 4 months out of the year. Since I planned to mostly daily drive this car, adding a/c was a necessity. Doing the same thing to my newly acquired E21 323i.
great car and memory for me, i was young, living near bobby jones golf course in atlanta with 4 roomates, curtis had a blue 320i, patricia had the henna red 320is, and i had a euro 1980 528i ice blue, 3 beemers in our drive back then was fun ! thank you! that paint pops when shiny

The motor on these are bulletproof. Forged internals.
BMW used it for their turbo F1 cars, and the e30 M3 uses the same exact block.

That car started out as an Automatic. Someone manual swapped it. Look at the door label it says 320 i/A. I had an 80 just like it in hennarot red just like yours except mine didnt have the sport stuff unfortunately. It was my first bmw and it made me fall in love with the brand.
This statement is not true. The label just means the specs are applicable to manual AND automatic cars.
