- After Taylor got his 1983 BMW 'E21' 320i running, following its 30-year slumber in someone's garage, it was time to make it nice again. Take a look at all of the hard work Taylor put in to make the little E21 that much nicer. He purchased a rusty parts car from Philadelphia that gave away many of its key bits so other E21s and 2002s could live on.

Guess I am lucky, I am the original owner of 320S 1982. 360K miles...I do not drive it much as any more as it burns oil.( Just put in a motor( 220K miles) from a wrecked one and ValveStem seals are bad)...have to pull motor ( again) to change 'em.... When I originally bought it in San Jose, Ca I was told only 750 were made.... It has been garaged for all its life and covered when parked for more than a hour...still a great fun car!..i have been trying to decide to keep ,sell, or put in a diesel engine....every time I drive it no way can I sell.... thanks for the vid!...makes me want to keep....oh btw different suspension too than the 320 I plus the bigger tool kit....original wheels are not painted...just alum.

I had a 82 320. I was a sales rep so I put about 325,000 miles on it. I have it to my son on his 16th birthday in 1994. Well he pulled out at a stoplight and was t boned. He was ejected from the car. Minor injuries. Car a total loss but it was sitting in the intersection still running. Beast of a car.

Very nice looking 320i and a great project. I bought a black over tan '83 320i in January, 1983, that Reeves Motorcars, the BMW dealer in Tampa, had optioned-up with some aftermarket items that I liked - a black, semi-soft FOHA front air dam (some call it a "front lip") that was more aggressive than anything else on the aftermarket; also a pair of bolt-on steel guards for the front fog lights, painted in black enamel. Those helped protect the under-bumper lights from road debris. Interior touches were a leather three-spoke sport steering wheel and and Alpine stereo cassette player. The stock radio was a pretty cheesy Sapphire unit made in China. If you wanted to complete the period correct enthusiast's outfitting, you would find an early 1980s Escort radar detector made by Cincinnati Microwave, and clip it to the driver's side visor. Everyone in my chapter of the BMWCCA had one. They were monsters, almost the size of a small dictionary, but they sure got the job done. In this case, though, it appears you'll have to renew the sun visor first.

I assume you have already figured out, but the empty positions in tool tray are one for emergency window crank tool which manual window car does not need and the next open space is for blue BMW cloth. I have European E21 currently refreshing.

Love this! Making me miss my shitbox e21! Drug it out of a field and traded a cr250 for it. Ran like hell. Was a pita to cold start as the wiring to the cold stary injector was cut at some point. Badass little cars. The k jet system really works excellent when maintained properly.

Additionally, the "Sensor" at 17:00 was just the hot start assist, which the later year cars did not come with and they had the manifold plugged from the factory.

The smaller part missing in the drop down tool compartment is in Europe a plastic implementation to remove the cover cap on the wheel security bolt. If you need an ista pic let me know and I can post the link here.

The PO of my e21 screwed a screw into the hazard switch just like yours lol, another item that is made of unobtainium
So, I recently took mine apart and was able to fix it by bending the armature back in!

Always carry a spare fuel relay or be prepared to jump the fuel relay. LOL

You mean the gears in the gearbox are stripped? Not sure what you mean by "grips".

This was crucial for me to identify that warmup reg and vaccum hose location, I'm reassembling a rebuilt engine on mine.
Also, quick question, these models don't come with skid plates?
I THINK they came with some kind of splash cover, but nothing super substantial.
Anyone know where I can find stone guard covers/protectors for the driving lights? I have the same/original Bosch driving lights on my '83 320i. Tired of replacing the glass when they break every few thousand miles.

Says all later E21s came LSD. I have a 83 us market E21. I don't believe it's an LSD. Second question. What other factory rear disc conversion can work on these cars?
He wasn’t saying all had LSDs, just 3.91:1 rear gear. My ‘83 has an open diff.

I have a 1980 320i and the headliner is all cut up to do you have any tips on replacing it?
No tips beyond have a lot of patience or pay or pro. It requires the glass to come out and it has to be glued in.
@@TaylorGoesFast this is a extremely late reply but I just decided not to do it as my rust repair for that e21 I was talking about was 7 grand
