      Plenty to chose from (i've pretty much watched ALL his IMAX movies in IMAX cinemas), but Bane hijacking and kidnapping Dr Pavel mid-air, at the beginning of TDKR, stands out for me. I really love it! I remember the first time i watched it....the entire 7 minute scene). It was introduced as a SURPRISE preview, while there at the IMAX to watch another movie....i think it was one of the Mission Impossible films. And i remember being reeeeeeeally surprised (because at this point, i dont even think the movie had finished filming) and giddy with excitement and thinking, WOW!!😍. But then i had to spend the next 6 months or so, waiting with anticipation (while watching every clip there is to watch about the movie), before it came out.

    I'd love to see Oppenheimer on a large format screen, but apparently it's now Cineworld policy to leave the overhead lights on during films (not the full house lights, but the hundreds of little high-wattage spotlights in the ceiling). I've seen them claim on Twitter that this is for health and sefety reasons, but they're the only cinema chain that does it, so it can't be a legal requirement. Last four films I saw in Cineworld it was bright enough to read a book in there.

    For me, I'll never forget the way *Memento* made me feel the first time I watched it. How the sequences guided you along and made you feel sympathetic to main character, and incapable of trusting the supporting characters, only to show how not even the main character could be trusted, and how the supporting characters weren't really that bad to begin with.
    It tells a perfect story of vulnerability and exploitation, and grief - but also the grey areas in justice and revenge, and the good people can do, when they're motivated by the right cause.
    It's simple. It's tragic. It's gritty. But it still feels realistic, every single time I watch it.

    I watched it , first in standard ( last row) , then in IMAX ( 3rd row) and i will say i did not stay for the 3hrs on IMAX. Maby it was a seating issue (as parts of the screen were out of view from my glasses without turning my neck) as the seat choosing display at the register was placing your view as the "movie" and not as a "watcher" ( this happened to another group that was in the same C row ) as we were thinking we would be 3rd from the back of the theater. But to sum it up i did not see any reason to spend $23.00 at IMAX as for $8.00 I saw at a standard theater .

    No, Nolan doesn't "refuse to use digital VFX". That piece of misinformation needs to die because it undervalues the incredibly difficult and laborious work done by highly skilled and passionate VFX artists who are so often treated like dirt in the industry. Of course it's true that Nolan tries to use practical effects when possible, but there are still thousands of VFX shots throughout his filmography.

    • @artofsam
      @artofsam Год назад +1

      People who say this seem to forget his past movies like Tenet, Inception and Interstellar all won oscars for their groundbreaking vfx and the recreated simulation of a black hole in interstellar literally produced a scientific paper from Kip Thorne that gave more insight into the nature of black holes. Christopher Nolan uses vfx but unlike other directors he know how and WHEN it should be used, vfx is in incredible tool but it should only ever be used for things that cannot be produced photographically, audiences have become so use to movies being 90% animation that they have forgotten a film can actually be made with just cameras and clever ways to get what you want IN that camera, nobody knows this better than Nolan and also Tarantino is a great example.

    Lol, no Cineworld actually has an IMAX screen. They are all LIEmax. They are literally conning people into going to their screens who are expecting this amazing 70mm 1:43:1 IMAX experience that has been (rightly) hyped up to be an incredible cinematic experience. What they'll get is little more than seeing Oppenheimer on a slightly larger screen that IN NO WAY resembles genuine IMAX. It's not even close yet they charge almost the same price! If you are going to see Oppenheimer at a Cineworld location then you'd be much better off seeing a SUPERSCREEN showing as the screen is much bigger than LIEMAX and you get Atmos sound, which is more important than the average laser projection that LIEmax has to offer. Not to mention that is quite a bit cheaper than a LIEmax screening.
    If you want to see Oppenheimer in IMAX format then DO NOT GO TO CINEWORLD, ODEON or any other chain that claims they have an IMAX screen because they don't. It's all a clever marketing scheme to con the public into paying way more for virtually nothing. You need to go to the BFI IMAX or the Science Museum in London or Manchester.

    As if it was possible to watch in IMAX. It was all sold out near me. Still haven't seen it, but at this point I'm just waiting for when it's $4.99 to stream.

    But it's digital - rather than the full-on 70/15mm IMAX(which not only Nolan favours - but the BFI Southbank IMAX is only a short distance away), so why is Kermode promoting this?

    There better be three amazing scenes of nukes going off in this movie after all the build up. And not some stupid game where the entire film ends a second before the first test. Or just shows you the observer's face expression.
    After all the drama, I need to see a desert turned to glass and two cities evaporated.

      Why would I absorb every detail about a movie and rob myself of the enjoyment of it unencumbered by having seen so many scenes already and heard so many details. Like to go into movies fresh and be somewhat surprised by what I see.
      If you like to spoil them for your self that’s your business.
      What do you mean ‘you should’ know that? It’s not an exam you twerp. There is no onus on a fellow to study every detail about a movie before seeing it. Only fools do that.
      And, unlike you and most people, I don’t believe Nolan to be a good movie maker. He makes spectacles with an over reliance on being ‘clever.
      I will enjoy the movie for the history and to some degree, the spectacle.
      But not showing the real-world use of the bombs is cowardice.
      And let me guess, there’s a ‘ticking’ soundtrack to add to the ‘mystique’ of Nolan’s obsession with ‘time’.
      Man you movie nerds are just sooooo lame.

All of these are true IMAX theaters, I don’t have the lieMax problem. Can’t wait to get really high before going into the IMAX 70mm film, who knows when this phenomenon will happen again!

  • @ecurb10
    @ecurb10 Год назад

    Sorry guys, but after all that you really didn't say WHY to watch Oppenheimer in iMax. Why this particular movie?
    My son and I just saw it, both being Nolan fans, but not in iMax but in VMax (which is simply a larger than average screen but the usual wide screen format), and both of us came out wondering why it would be a movie suitable for iMax. It is basically just a regular docudrama - a very good one, but hardly what you'd expect would benefit from such a huge screen (except for that 5 minutes or so of the bomb going off).
    Dune I would've LOVED to have seen on iMax, so too many other 'epic sweep' movies.
    But great big talking faces plastered across the screen? Yeah nah no thanks.
    PS. And one more small thing: though I really respect his choice not to use CGI for the bomb visuals....I kind of wish he did (gulp, sorry everyone), as it didn't really LOOK like a nuclear explosion. It looked simply like what it was - a very very big conventional one. Nuclear explosions look different - they're weird looking. But not this one. And to omit completely the incredibly iconic image of the mushroom cloud...I don't understand that choice.
