You guys picked up so much on your first viewing especially how the Emperor planned and could foresee everything…except for the “little bears” (the Ewoks) ! The point behind that being a creature so small and seemingly insignificant with primitive weapons were so tiny to the emperor that he didn’t even consider them. Yet they brought down the biggest strongest most powerful army in the Galaxy.Sometimes in our lives we feel small and like no one considers us significant but never give up and never doubt yourself. Sometimes the smallest things end up making the biggest difference. And THAT is why it is so important to try to make someone smile today. We could change OUR Galaxy by doing that!

Their commentary on Palpatine's machinations made me think they need to watch the prequels immediately.
And the idea that the Empire was undermined by the primitive population of an occupied world was the intent of George Lucas' interpretation of the Vietnam War and the consequences the US endured as a result.
Yes and not only that but picking up on the Emperor’s knowledge and foresight shows how well they were paying attention to the story.

This is one of the most pure viewings of this movie I've seen in a long time. So fun to see the magic of seeing a beloved movie for the first time with little or no previous knowledge about it. Thanks you two!
I always like that subtle bit of acting by Carrie Fisher on the shuttle when Luke says Vader's on that ship. The look says she senses something too, even if she doesn't quite understand it.
The beginnings of her force-sensitivity, but she chose a different path in life, never studied the Jedi ways.
Just imagine how people of my generation felt. We had to wait "years" in between the Star Wars releases. 😄

The murder bears are called Ewoks, though they don't say the name in the movie. The one that finds Leia is named Wicket, and was played by Warwick Davis. Warwick stars in the movie Willow (along with your boy Val Kilmer), which you should add to your list. We named our pandemic pups Wicket and Willow 🙂💜

I am of the Star Wars generation and saw all of these in theater as a kid. These movies mean a lot to me. I will prepare you, these original 3 movies are legendary and almost universally loved....the ones that follow later are not as revered. Be ready for a mixed bag. And yes, always watch in release order, as the film-makers intended.

I think the emotional impact is greater when watching in the order of IV, V, I, II, III, VI. By watching all the prequels between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, you really appreciate Darth Vader's redemption arc. Obviously, you can't do that now.
I think you'd be best served by watching all the prequels in release order, then Rogue One, then the sequel movies.
Sorry but get real. You have to watch it in the way it was released. That order is non-sensical.
@@wantutosigh1117 It's very sensical. You get the reveal about Luke's parentage, and then you dip into the history of Anakin and Vader. That makes RotJ emotional finale even more impactful.
I've always been kind of on the fence about how a new viewer should see them, because if you watch in the release order then you get the grand reveal of Vader being Luke's father and Leia his sister, but if you watch in series order then you don't have the foreknowledge that Anakin will become Vader which would make his ultimate betrayal of the Jedi and transformation into Vader much more of a surprise.

I think my favorite scene out of this film may be where Luke is below the stairs.
Half in light, half in darkness while being tempted to lash out in anger. Perfect storytelling of inner conflict in that scene without dialogue.

Yes. Even when Luke turns himself in, he and Vader exchange words, and then Vader is left in the hallway by himself, alone. He doesn't have to say a thing. The camera and his posture show us he's conflicted, and chewing on Luke's words: "Then my father is truly dead...."
They knew how to tell stories back then. Nowadays there would be full paragraphs of exposition to explain what Vader is thinking in that moment.
And it's also that loss of his hand and recognizing that if he keeps following the path he is going right now, he'll become what his father is.

I couldn’t help but giggle when it was mentioned we had to wait three years for the next episode. While that was true I had to wait 42 years to see all nine episodes. From being 6 years old to 48 years old to see it all. Can you imagine the devotion that took? 😊 SO WORTH IT!

Fun fact: Re: the actual power of the Emperor. In Legends canon, the Thrawn trilogy revealed that the Emperor was spreading his mental influence across his entire fleet, to increase the reaction times and morale and coordination among his ships' crew. When Vader tossed him down the shaft and the Emperor died, that influence got yanked out, making everyone on the Empire side disoriented and panicked. It's why the battle takes such a sharp turn right after the Emperor croaks.
And the EU/Legends Canon is the only one that lasts.
Canon is bs made up after the movie to fill in plot holes. Of not in the movie did not happen.
The only canon is George Lucas. Anythig outside of George Lucas is fan fiction, including DIsney Star Wars and Legends.

You have to watch episodes 1, 2 & 3 next. A lot of people bag on the "prequels" but they are actually pretty awesome. The lightsaber fights are amazing, the characters, adventure, the story line, the genesis of Darth Vader and the Emperor, and Obi Wan Kenobi... as well as some awesome new characters (Padme, Darth Maul, Jar Jar Binks)... I can't wait to experience Episode 1 with you!!

As I'm sure someone has already mentioned, the 'teddy bears' were called Ewoks (EE-wok). Shortly after this movie was released, they came out with stuffed toy Ewoks. I bought one for my young daughter.
Lucas CASHED in on the Ewoks merch !!! LOL.He had 100% merchandizing of all Star Wars merchandize,what a SWEET deal !!! Problably made a cool 30/40 mil off merch for this film alone.
I had some Ewok action figures that I loved.
The Ewoks got their own spin-off cartoon too.
One of my earliest childhood memories is the Halloween my mom converted a bear costume into an Ewok for my brother. It was a huge hit. Wish we had photos of it still.
It's pretty hard to overstate the impact this trilogy had on those of us that grew up in the 80s.....

Unfortunately Disney came into the picture and screwed the whole thing up. But you're right this trilogy, Rocky, Rambo, missing in action and so many more movies that our generation was blessed with are part of what helped us become the men and women that we are today.

I've watched this movie so many times I couldn't count - somehow you've done an incredible magic trick where it felt I was genuinely watching this for this first time - your innocence towards it without baggage, or expectation, made this probably the purest reaction one could ever hope for. To the point of tears. This was special. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Yes, rare in this world are true 1st time viewers who haven't been clued in to the spoilers, memes, or hype. They are also lucky because they can *almost* claim a spot next to us original releasers. The only thing they missed is the original big-screen spectacle that can't be put into words. There is a treat in store for everyone who's only seen these on a TV or a small screen the next time they are re-released in a theater (when?!).

I’m an OG Star Wars fan, from 1977 onward. The three years between THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI was a long one and a fairly impatient one (fortunately we had the 1981 & 1982 movie years to keep us busy, and there were a LOT of great films that came out during that time!), but I will never forget waiting in line overnight outside the theater where I would see Episode VI on Opening Day, May 25, 1983. I got to the theater around 8 pm the night before. My best friends had gotten there even earlier and were able to snag tickets to see the movie at the 3 am showing (there was also a midnight showing that was sold out before any of us got there). The 3 am showing was sold out by the time I arrived so I was only able to get my ticket for the next showing, which was at 9 am, over 12 hours later. My buddies got tickets for that showing too so we could all enjoy it together. I brought my sleeping bag and a pillow with my Star Wars pillowcase over it, and a couple magazines to read while I waited in line. (The experience of waiting in line outside the theater like we did regularly for big event movies like this was something I wish had never gone away, because it was as memorable as the movie itself.) After the 3 am showing got out, my friends didn’t spoil it for me but they said it was the best ever and that I would love it, which is what I wanted, of course. And finally it was time for the 9 am show, and we all filed into the theater with our belongings in tow, sleepy but excited that finally this three year wait was about to end! We were finally seeing it! And I loved it, just loved it! We were JUST LIKE YOU GUYS!!! Fortunately the volume in the theater was cranked up high, but I remember hollering at the screen: “DO SOMETHING!!! That’s your SON!!! Don’t just stand there!!!” And then.....he moved. I swear to you, you have never experienced an explosion of nerd ecstasy like that theater did that morning. We were apoplectic, totally beside ourselves, screaming excitedly and babbling incoherently like maniacs for about 30 seconds. And tears were flowing like rivers of joy. It was probably the greatest moviegoing experience in my entire life.
I really wish you could have been there. But you came pretty close to it in this video. You two are real Star Wars fans, definitely. This OG fan has declared you so.
By the way, the teddy bears are called Ewoks. And their language is Ewokese, which was largely based on Kalmyk Oirat, a language spoken by Russians of the Kalmyk region, and was also influenced by assorted African and South Pacific languages. Sound Designer (and genius) Ben Burtt got some people who spoke those languages to tell stories in their native language and he recorded them. Then voice actors learned the cobbled-together language phonetically and acted their parts in a recording studio. Pretty cool, huh?

Score for this movie was a masterpiece by Williams. Doesn't get enough props for the importance of his contribution to the franchise.

Part of the modern reaction by someone who doesn't know anything means that comments like this are actually spoilers. Yeah, 25 years ago when Episdoe I came out the advertising made it clear (plus all the webisodes about the making) that that was the plan, but let people experience it without you all thinking you're so clever that you're going to be the one(s) to give them the info. They already said they were going to watch them (and have by the time I'm writing this) so there was no need to tell them ANYTHING. Think about this in the future when there are more reactions to these movies.

actually if you really think about it Vader wasn't really trying to strike down Luke. If he really wanted to, he would've. "You are unwise to lower your defenses" was his warning without evening warning him. If he wanted to kill Luke when he was on the platform trying to talk to him he would've done it. He was conflicted as much as he kept saying he wasn't, but his actions spoke louder than his words. He was warning Luke the whole time when he was about to attack.
This is the most awesome reaction to Return of the Jedi that I have ever seen!!! You guys got into it with such wide-eyed fascination that I almost felt like I was watching the movie for the first time too. I saw it for the first time in the theater when I was 15 years old and have watched it too many times to count since that day. It was sooo refreshing to see and feel the emotion from both of you as you experienced one of my all time favorite movies!!!

Agree with you, for me it is the shocked reactions to the storyline as it is unfolding that nearly everyone knows as it has been part of our entire adult lives after seeing them in the theaters as kids when they came out and it like l get to feel that again, but is also real fun knowing what is about to happen & waiting to see them go WTF ;-)

The problem I have with this episode( and it is one of my favorites),is that the actor who played the Vader at the end of this movie,was removed from the credits after the 1 through 3 episodes were released and Hayden Christensen was put into his place.
While it works for the canon going forward, it to me at the time, was a slap in the face to Sebastian Shaw. Although he was already long dead before the edit took place.
I agree. This is the first time I saw this ending with the original actor being removed, and I think that it's a shame.

I don't think it works replacing Shaw with Christiansen, because (in my view) the second Vader picks up the Emperor, he's redeemed and becomes Anakin again, so his force ghost should be as he was at the time of his death.
This is the good Star Wars with the original cast. If you like these you should watch Space Balls you will laugh all the way through. Please do Willow , Labyrinth ( David Bowie) Never Ending Story Told you Jay you would get a light Sabre . So great to see you joined the force.

I would say this is the fifth or sixth best Star Wars movie, behind Empire, A New Hope, Rogue One, The Force Awakens, and arguably The Revenge of the Sith.
I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. It brought me back to 1983, when I was ten years old, seeing this movie in the theater for the first time. When Vader saved Luke by grabbing the Emperor and throwing him down the shaft, the entire audience leaped to its feet and roared. An amazing experience back then. And I think if you two had been with us back in 83, you'd have been on your feet, too!

So great. Your reaction is proof that George Lucas' original trilogy is timeless. Yes, when "Empire" ended you sat there going "Three years?" I hope you enjoy the other films, but for me this original trilogy is the heart and soul of "Star Wars". You guys are GREAT!
"There is another, Skywalker", still gives chills.
This movie has a special place for me. I was born in Belfast Northern Ireland and my family and I came to the States in 1983 when I was just 8 years old and this was not just the first movie I saw in the US but the first movie theater experience. I love my home country but Belfast in the 80s was a literal war zone. The one theater in Lisburn the suburb of Belfast we lived in, was bombed by the IRA and almost burned to the ground. So this movie represents to me the new life we got in America
I saw this in the movies too. (I was also 8 actually) But I have a story to tell you that you might find interesting. I was in northern Ontario (Canada). Especially pre-internet days, a lot of rural Canada's culture comes from the British, so the Irish were really disliked (there was an Irish family in my town who was really not treated well). My dad moved to ON from the southern US in 1951 as a young adult. This was the segregated South were Black people were second-class citizens. He was always amazed how the White people around us had no issue with us, but hated other White people (the Irish) As Ecclesiastes 8:9 says, "that man has dominated man to his harm". Only under God's Kingdom will such wickedness of racial and ethnic bigotry no longer be! The Bible shows that this will happen soon
The concept art designer for Star Wars was a genius. Some of the best looks for everything, from star ships to the creatures to the look and feel of everything.
The armored guy who flew over during the rescue mission and was clowned by a blind Han was Boba Fett, the bounty hunter who brought him in. He was extremely popular.
Boba Fett was extremely popular but only had maybe less than 5 minutes of screen time before being eaten by the sarlacc ("sand worm").
Loved it! The next are the pre sequels! Episode 1 2 3! Darth as a boy! How he became who he is.. Can't wait to share it and seeing you react to it! Order of release is the best way!!

Yes watch episodes 1,2,3. If you want backstory, these are essential! They show Anakin (Darth) as a boy and how he learns from Obi Wan, how he became a father and what ultimately turned him to the Dark Side. Can't wait to see your reactions!!
@@tinahairston6383 The recent ones (minus Rogue One) are indeed trash, but the prequels are essential to get the full story, which can be basically summed up as "The rise, downfall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker"
@@boristurovskiy351 They aren't "essential." They fill in backstory that didn't need to be filled in. It's okay to have backstory that is just alluded to. We don't need it to be fully spelled-out.
Especially when it's spelled out with horrible film making, crap writing, terrible acting, etc. The prequel trilogy is unnecessary, poorly made, and does not need to be watched.
When you watch the prequels, episodes 1-3, they are Anakins/Vader's story as much as these 3 movies are Luke's story. You will learn how he became Vader. Why he must wear the suit or die, and why Obi-Wan is so central to the story.. Finally they give a more thorough explanation of how the force works and the differences between the Sith and the Jedi. Also you will learn who Luke and Leia's mother is. Finally the true nature of the Emperor will slowly be revealed as well as what happened to the Jedi Knights. So another several movies worth of stories and two epic light saber battles ever were in them. They are basically doing full on parkour in the duel in episode 1. The films are much better from a technological and world building aspect but not as strong with personality developnent. They get more grief, a bit unfairly IMO but not totally so by critics. Don't watch the sequels (7-9) until you've seen the prequels as you may get confused with plot points. I won't comment on the sequels here so as not to prejudice you. But I would urge you to watch Rouge One before watching the sequels as it has direct ties to Episode 4. I'm almost jealous. Lol
i loved Rogue One and was amazed as to how it tied the back story into SW ep. 4 at the end!
Rogue One is one of the best of the Star Wars movies.
Im sure I know you stance on the sequels and its all good. I think they should watch them and make their own opinion. Who knows they make like it and that's okay. Every is entitled to their own opinion. Rogue One was a great spin-off and I can't wait for Andor next Wednesday.
@@RebelGaming4U Yeah a lot of the sites seem to be prejudging Andor but after seeing the trailers I can't figure out why. It genuinely looks interesting and seems to be an untold, except in cartoon version, side of the Rebellion. They can build off some of the characters from Rogue One as well as Rebels, even some characters from the Clone Wars series.
The last one where Annekin becomes Vader... my favorite. Can't wait for these two to check it out!

I was 23 when "Star Wars IV: A New Hope" came out in 1977. Of course it was simply called "Star Wars" then. It was like nothing we had ever seen before and we were all completely blown away. And I was a science fiction nerd for about half of my young life, so I had seen a lot of the old movies on a black-and-white television set. It was an international blockbuster (so named because the lines to buy tickets at the big screen movie theaters would stretch down the block; no internet, no advanced ticket orders, arrive early, bring cash). The ball was rolling and would not be stopped. Two years later, a book on "The Art of Star Wars" was published and that was the first time that it officially became "Star Wars IV: A New Hope". Wait, what? IV? Like number 4? What's going on here?
A year after that came "Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980 and then we had to wait another 3 years for "Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi." And the rest, as they say, is history.
I was 17 on the day it opened at the Grauman's Chinese Theater. We stood in line for 4 hours to see it opening day. It was, like you said, INCREDIBLE! Nothing like it. When I was a waitress in Santa Cruz, CA., a group of regular carpenters came into the Denny's I was working every morning and got commissioned to go to the Bay area and begin building Lucas Film's Compound there. Also, in 1979 in N Hollywood I was an apt. manager and one of my tenants drew in the light saber swords in The Empire Strikes Back
And Lucas pulled that totally out of his ass....(pardon my French)...the "plan" he had for the 9 films...
Now that you’ve finished the original trilogy, you should watch Spaceballs. It’s a spoof with a nod to several movies of the time, but mainly Star Wars.

If you went by those rules, they would need to see Planet of the Apes as well. I feel like the original trilogy is the most important prerequisite. Not that I don’t recommend both movies. This one ties for second with "Revenge of the Sith", for my favorite movies in the whole Star Wars saga.
I was 8 years old when this movie first came out in 1983. And to an 8 year old girl, at the time Jabba the Hutt was pretty scary. LOL! I'll always remember waiting in the theater lobby, and not going in to the theater until after Leia killed Jabba.
Two of the saddest moments in this movie is when Yoda dies, and towards the end when that Ewok is killed.
And my favorite scenes are when Luke tells Leia that they're brother and sister. And the Ewok celebration at the end.
I've always loved how Han and Leia reversed the "I love you" "I know" lines.
Luke and Vader's lightsaber fight on the Death Star is one of my favorite lightsaber fights.
And that last moment between Luke and Anakin, after Luke removes the mask, always brings a tear to my eyes.
That is in fact the younger version on Anakin Skywalker there at the end standing with Obi-Wan and Yoda. He's played by Hayden Christensen who you will definitely see in the prequel trilogy.
Up Next is the Prequel Trilogy beginning with "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace".
I very highly recommend the second in the Indiana Jones series "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and the 1984 "The Karate Kid".

I have watched this movie well over 100 times, I wore a hole in the VHS tape we had taped off network TV. I can't recall ever crying when vader said "tell your sister, you were right", but bro made me cry over that. Always tugged at my heart strings, but your reaction touched me so much. Keep them coming, I can't wait for y'all to watch the rest.

@@stephenbaker5431 In the original version, Sebastian Shaw appeared as the Force Ghost of Anakin. He's the actor you see when Vader's helmet is removed. So there was that visual continuity. (I don't blame them for putting in Hayden Christiansen later, his face is much more well-known as Anakin now. I'm glad they've left Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan, though; much as I love Ewan McGregor in the role!)
The little teddy bear creatures are called Ewoks. I’m so glad you have finished the original trilogy. It is such a great story! Next you need to watch episodes I, II, and III.
Vader is my favorite character. How can you not like someone with James Earl Jones’ voice. Definitely one of my favorite actors of all time.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but if you look closely at how Luke's face is lit when Vader discovers he has a twin sister, it's half light and half dark. An artistic representation of where the character is: Straddling the light side and the dark side.
The eternal power of this story- you went from 'no, he'll never be good,' to begging Vader to do something in the face of the Emperor's greater evil, to cheering when he did. Vader finally says 'No,' and takes a stand, and we all cheer 'YES!'

I have loved watching you discover the original Star Wars trilogy. It’s hard to adequately explain the impact of these movies. George Lucas created a mythology for a generation. (The duel between Luke and Vader is, I think, one of the best and heaviest conflict scenes in any movie…plus the music behind it…then the climax and resolution when Luke’s instincts about Vader are vindicated…like I said, a perfect modern mythology.)
The actor who plays the Emperor in this movie is the same actor who portrays him in the prequels. Why not - he does an amazing job.
How did Jabba the Hutt become so powerful?
Based on the writings/books about the Star Wars universe... Jabba the Hutt (and the entire Hutt species) are INCREDIBLY long-lived... typically just out-living their competition, gathering up social & underground political power amongst the criminal elite. They don't grow to THAT enormous a mass until they are significantly older... but imagine a race of "snakes with arms" who are immune to Jedi telepathy and other such "powers" in this galaxy. Simply living longer than everyone else in the criminal organization ensures that you'll move "up the ranks" eventually if you're a smart, loyal soldier

I grew up watching this as a kid, then I started watching the animated clone wars and young Anakin is in that the whole way through and re-watching return of the Jedi and seeing his force ghost had me in tears. It hit so different, bloody beautiful. 😭
I must say of this trilogy, I remember loving this third film as a kid. As a grown man I still like it but I think the middle film, Empire strikes back, has become my favorite of this trilogy. Still all three films are good.
Same here. Return of the Jedi was my favorite as a kid, it was the first movie my father took me to. Over the years Empire Strikes Back has become my favorite though. Empire is just a better movie.

This movie WAS A MONSTER EVENT when it was first released in 1983!!
Of course, the franchise had a HUGE fan base when its trailer was set forth in late 1982. The theaters were allowed to have a "midnight showing" (early morning May 25th of 1983) on a 'first come first served basis'.
My brother, a mutual friend and I got to the theater, ( the Edens theatre Northbrook, Illinois) which basically filled the greater portion of a city block, at about 8:15 PM. We joined our place in line, which at that time was 3/4 of the way around the theater!!
Needless to say, that amount of hard-core fans had INTENSE reactions to the high points and low points of the movie.
The groans when the battles, both on the ground and in space, turned for the Empire to the UPROARIOUS CHEERS when Vader grabbed the Emperor and threw him over the railing! You would have thought that roof was going to come off of the place!!!
And of course, the heavy silence during the scene where Luke helps his father, Anakin, remove his helmet.
To me, these movies show the power of hatred and regret and selfishness and greed that can propel human beings to commit terrible acts upon one another AND these movies demonstrate the power of hope and compassion and mercy and unity that can propel human beings forward to great things.
I love you two and I hope and pray that you and your family are well and whole and sound.

Sure was. I saw it in the theaters at age 11. There are a handful of movies i vividly remember watching. Even recall the sounds and smells in the theater. Saw it again a week later and was blessed to have seen it again 4-5 years ago at the New York philharmonic to a live orchestra. Other movies i recall watching

I wish you could have seen the original version. At the end the actor who played Darth Vader was the one to appear with Yoda and Obi Wan. After they made the new films with Hayden Christiansen playing young Anikan Skywalker they released a new version of Return of the Jedi with him in it. It was much more emotional to see the actor we just saw die return at the end than an actor we haven't even seen yet.

I agree. The original ending with Sebastian Shaw had an even more emotional impact.
Yes, substituting young Anakin for old was one of the worst things they did in the digital remake - that wasn't the version of Anakin who redeemed himself. (The politics nerd in me is also irritated by the whole empire falling right away, even Coruscant - that's not how that works, but it's less emotionally offensive.)
No it makes sense that it's Hayden in the end bec that's what he looked like when he was still Anakin, the good side

The Vader story was amazing, cause we never ever expected such a develepment of the character. We as boys in the 80's just wanna have the Toys to play the story with them, but after this movie I just fell in love with this character. It is the best bad guy in history.
My dream was to have the toy of the Ewok town and a lot of Speeder Bikes with thier imperial soldiers.

If you want to watch more, there's one great side story film "Rogue One" which you could watch now or any time as it doesn't spoil anything. The prequels would be the next set. Nobody thinks the prequels are better than the originals, but they still have a lot of fun and adventure.

Some days I prefer the prequels to the originals. They’re different movies with a different scope, story, emotion and circumstances than the originals.
Revenge is my second favorite Star Wars movie.
Rogue One to get the back story to the Death Star plans from A New Hope and Prequels to complete Darth Vader's arc.
Disney Trilogy can be taken as unnecessary corporate fanfic that ruins everything.

If you guys are full on Star Wars fans now, I highly recommend "The Mandalorian" series on Disney+. There are only 8 episodes a season, anywhere from 38 to 58 minutes an episode. So you could react to three episodes at a time, just like a movie reaction. 😁 It was really cool watching you both get to know and love this trilogy. My only note is that Yoda was not done via CGI, so there is no change in the "graphics." Yoda was a puppet both in this movie and the last one.
As for the order to watch in...I recommend Release Order. It really is the only way it makes sense (and even then, not as much sense as we would have liked). Episodes 1-3 are about Anakin Skywalker and his fall to the Dark Side, how he became Darth Vader and how Palpatine became the Emperor. Episodes 7-9 carry on the story with new characters, though each of our fave trio of Han, Leia, and Luke play a part in the story. Unfortunately, the director for episodes 7 and 9 and the one for episode 8 had WILDLY different ideas and takes on the story, and in the end they do not work very well together as a whole story, which is a shame. But, that's a judgement call, and I'm sure that a couple of people as positive as yourselves will find things to like, and I love to watch that positivity.
Each of the 3 Star Wars trilogies is separated by 20-30 years in movie time, so sadly you are not going to get to see Leia become an awesome Jedi in the sequels. There was more planned for her in the last film, however, Carrie Fisher passed away after making Episode 8, so her part in Episode 9 had to be drastically rewritten in order to use footage of her that had already been filmed for the previous movies and had not been used yet.

I LOVED the Madalorian! And then comes Boba Fett! But after about the 5th one it got kinda stupid (to me)... still... what a ride and a journey they've taken us all on with this series. I was 17 and graduated high school in 1977 - that summer Star Wars opened - I went to see it 3 days after I graduated. Today, I'm 62 and still talking about Star Wars. In fact, I'm finishing my Ph.D. dissertation this month, and some of my references are about Star Wars' impact on our culture and future-creation over the last 50 years. They write doctoral studies about this franchise (Star Trek and the Lego Movie too! also, Noel Carroll and his study on The Philosophy of Horror)...

So, so glad to see you guys enjoy these movies as much as my generation did. I grew up on these flicks. And as you can tell, the special effects were waaay ahead of their time back then. Industrial Light and Magic (the director, George Lucas's FX company he founded in 1975) truly knew what they were doing. Of course these effects cannot touch what they do nowadays, but you can imagine how it was for us to see these films back then, how amazing we thought they were.
Y'all definitely have to get into the prequel series now (Episodes I, II, & III). You guys will absolutely love the backstories of all the characters you have now grown to love by watching eps IV, V, and VI.
Always wonderful to seeing people start their Star Wars journry. Release order is the best order for the initial viewing. Rewatching is when numerical order can be done. A 3 year wait isn't terrible considering it was another 16 years after Return of the Jedi that the Phantom Menace was released.

Nothing like your first time watching Star Wars and that excitement you experienced. I remember that when I first saw the movies when they first came out. It's a one time experience and it looked like you guys reacted exactly how everyone did back in the day! Brought back some memories.
Darth Vader's redemption is one of the most incredible stories I have ever seen in films. There at the end, you know it's all as much the story of Vader as it is the story of Luke and the others.

Jabba is basically a galactic gangster. It took a team of seven puppeteers and technicians to operate Jabba including three operating inside of Jabba. Episodes 1-3 deal with the story of Anakin and his eventual destiny to become Vader

Star Wars never gets old! When you guys are ready for another feel good movie, try MASK from the 80s with Cher, Sam Elliot (the guy from tombstone with the buttery voice) you get a true story and it’s just great all around I’m sure you guys would love it…not to be confused with THE mask with Jim Carrey which is also good but for different reasons entirely lol ✌💚🌻✨💛
I love that the Emperor inspires so much fear, even after all these years. It shows how powerful Vader and the Emperor are in storytelling. And the moment you all said "Darth Vader? Turn good? No way," and all the folks who already knew were just all smirking and waiting for the moment to arrive.
Funny thing about the Falcon was that it was originally part of a cargo ship setup. It's been modified a lot. I remember someone once saying that the Millenium Falcon is like souped up 18 wheeler. 🤣
Fun bit of trivia: the Ewoks were originally meant to be Wookies (like Chewie) but budget constraints led to the Ewoks.
I saw Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back on cable but THIS I saw in the theater - a couple times - and I was blown away. The ewoks and the speeder bike chase scenes were my favorite parts of the movie. And Salacious Crumb the cackling thing in Jabba's palace! Such great memories - so glad you guys loved the trilogy.
That's why Leia heard Luke when he called to her at the end of Empire Strikes Back.

Great reaction! Ewoks are the bravest warriors in the saga. If you like them there are 2 movies about them set in the star wars universe (i think). They are called " Caravan of curage " and "battle for Endor ". And I love them.
As stated earlier, the movies started with book 4 since producers weren't sure how much success there would be. Now go back to episode one "the phantom menace". Takes place 32 years earlier and the first three episodes show how Darth and Emperor come about. Love you guys here in Amarillo, Tx.

I’m so glad y’all did the original trilogy first. It’s such an amazing franchise with so many feelings, y’all should do the prequels next (1,2,3). These movies have even more feelings and story to it, and will show you the story of Vader, and his slow downfall to get him to where he was toward the end of this movie.
I would definitely recommend the prequels if they’re suffering from insomnia. All three of those movies are the cure.
