When I was in the theatre the entire audience screamed when Han got killed. I was sobbing. I liked it. I'm 73 and a big Star Wars fan since the beginning.
I didn't cry then....but when I saw Rogue One, it was just after Carrie Fisher passed. When she appeared on the screen, and said, "Hope", I wept like a broken-hearted child.
You will really love Rogue One - it’s a great movie and fits in so well in the story! It takes place several years after Episode III right before Episode IV. And another great female lead character.
I feel when Ben said in tears that he knew what he had to do but not if he had the strength to do it he really meant that he wants to go to the dark side completely because he felt so conflicted, so he had to commit such an evil act as killing his own father. And when Han said he would help him he really made the ultimate sacrifice and said "go ahead and kill me if this is what will end your pain". It's so painfully beautiful...
The planet where Luke is on is Ach-to (a play on "Act Two"), which was filmed on an island called Skellig Michael off the coast of Ireland. It really does have those ancient stone beehive huts, and is a world heritage site. It's also a breeding ground for puffin birds who were so numerous while trying to film there that they were incorporated into the next movie as adorable porgs, who Amber will go nuts over.
When this movie came out, my daughter was IN LOVE with BB8. She was six. Even though she had never seen any of the movies, we bought her a remote control BB8, which she still has to this day. She wanted to see BB8 in the movie. But I told her she had to watch all the movies in order for it to make sense. We bonded over watching all the Star Wars movies together, even though her mother and sisters had zero interest. So thank you George Lucas for giving me that bonding time with my youngest.
The storm-trooper who let Rey go was actually Daniel Craig! [James Bond] if you didn't recognise his voice. Watching Han solo die still hurts after all these year's. [Although Harrison Ford wanted him killed off after Empire, but they froze him instead. Then after jedi. He said he would only come back if they killed him off so that's what happened 😢 Great Reaction as always . Looking forward to the next ones already.
That’s why it was absolutely no surprise that he died. His feelings on this were well known beforehand therefore I felt nothing upon his death. Such a shame.
The actress who plays the Silver Stormtrooper (Capt. Phasma) is Gwendoline Christie who also played beloved character, Brienne the Tarth, from the famous Game of Thrones show on HBO. Fun fact, she is 6' 3" tall.
I saw all of these movies in the theater, and my parents took me to see a new hope in 1977. When the opening music of this movie started, I teared up a bit, sitting in the theater with my sons. And don't get me started on how gutted I felt after the Han Solo scene...
@@jackiec859 To be fair Harrison Ford only agreed to do the movie if Han Solo died. Ford wanted him to die in Empire Strikes Back. For whatever reason Harrison Ford never did really like playing Han, which is a shame because Han and Indy are his two biggest roles.
1:59 "Oh, there it is." That musical opening *NEVER* gets old. Ever! It's almost the best part every time. 3:16 It feels like coming home to an old friend who has some new stories to tell you while you were apart.
Ya’ll!!!!! I tell you one thing, the death of Han Solo KILLED ME!!!! When I saw it in the theater I literally yelled out “WTF?!????” when it happened….all the kiddos turned around & glared at me….I was like “…my bad 🫣”….very hard scene to watch, especially when Han still touched Kylo’s face lovingly. Ouch y’all….awesome reaction y’all 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
And at that point jj abrams KILLED THE FRANCHISE!! Just like he killed Star Trek. Its not that the films were that bad... he killed Han. Once he killed Han it was a wrap, no one gave a damn about the rest of the films. And then Carrie Fisher died.... FATE SEALED!!
Oh and btw that island at the end is a real place - Skellig Michael off the coast of Kerry in Ireland. It's an ancient monastery site and a bird sanctuary. Landing there with a boat is tricky, so the guides only go out when the weather is ok. You need to be fairly fit because there's hundreds of stone steps that lead up to the monastery, and they can be slippery in bad weather.
That blue light saber that Rey has, was the one Luke used through Empire, before his hand was cut off. Which, since it was given to him by Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi, means it was Anakin's (Darth Vader) saber before he was beaten by Obi-Wan. Which, to dredge up more sadness, means that it's the one that killed the younglings in the Jedi temple.
You're so right about those of us who've watched these since the beginning, waiting many years in between. When the opening words & music started, it made me soooo happy. Love that you get that feeling, too.
I don't know if anyone else had mentioned this yet, but the stormtrooper that Rey influenced was named JB-007. That's a reference to James Bond since the most current James Bond actor, Daniel Craig, played that stormtrooper!
OH. MY. GOSH!!! My sister & I were in our 50’s when this movie came out so we grew up watching Star Wars from the very beginning. We bought tickets to see this at the very 1st midnight showing in the IMAX theater & stood in line for 2 hours to be able to see it. Watching it with you guys just now took me back to that very night. Your reactions were just like ours. My heart literally skipped beats were yours did. Even knowing how it would end didn’t lessen my reactions this time. THANK YOU for being so invested & not listening to the naysayers!!! I’m HERE for the next ones!!! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!❤❤
Between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy, the Empire discovered that it’s more efficient to utilize Storm Troopers rather than Clone Troopers. Storm Troopers are individuals obtained by the Empire (and later the First Order) as young children who are indoctrinated and trained by the Empire/First Order to carry out orders without question. Finn is different as he apparently developed a conscious and a desire to be free.
One of my favorite behind the scenes fact is that when Han and Chewbacca were going to film the scene where they first board the Falcon ("Chewie, we're home"), EVERYONE came to watch, even people that weren't going to be filming that day. Did you recognize the blue saber? It's the one that Luke was fighting with when Vader cut his hand off in Empire Strikes Back.
Most of the disagreements among fans is generational. Each generation's trilogy is typically their favorite. You guys have the luxury of watching these in a short time frame and being able to evaluate them more objectively than most. It's nice to be on this ride with you. :)
I just wanted to say, as a massive SW fan who experienced the films as they released, it's been a treat going on the journey again with you two. The excitement and emotion in your reactions really makes me smile. I cannot WAIT to see how you guys react to The Last Jedi, probably the most polarizing movie in the franchise. I think the twists and turns will shock you. Thank you for these videos! Looking forward to the final two episode reactions. :)
"Ben! We're calling him by his government name." That is the best ever! Thanks for your love of this franchise. This is why I love Star Wars. Its all gravy as far as I'm concerned. 💌Thanks for everything!
This was the highest grossing movie in the Star Wars Saga, $2 Billion dollars against a, wait a minute, $447 million dollar budget! It was not only the highest grossing movie of 2015, it was also very expensive! Some people like it, some people hate it, as Han Solo, spoilers, flies the Millennium Falcon one last time, Rey is supposed to be the next generation of Jedi, and Luke Skywalker doesn't make an appearance, until 2 hours later. Also RIP, Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (R2D2), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia).
I believe that the most impressive thing any force user did in any of the main films was Vader force choking someone to death on an entirely different ship just because he could see him
I talk to Amber sometimes and she told me they're getting to Rogue One in the next couple of months I believe they want to watch the Hobbit next, which should be another entertaining watch
If you guys decide you want to watch the complete saga, I hope you do the various series, both live action and animated, as so much interconnectivity exists between the two and the films.
Many who grew up with the originals really hate the prequels and sequels. I, being one of those old enough to have grown up with the originals, actually likes the sequels. They are not the same but then, any series whose movies are written and directed by different people with different perspectives are. Different doesn't have to mean bad. I am glad you liked it!
@@KarlKraus1 Yes it does. But more to the point, it is about respecting the old characters and turning their back utterly on Lucas and what they promised him they would do.
Hey I love the original characters too buy they can't hang around forever hell Harrison didn't want to be around it anymore everyone expecting to see something and getting nowhere near whatever that is the root problem here too many things to list here regarding that I've seen people on here who grew up on the first movies and they love these movies fine they have fun, they don't care about lore or the status quo they're just happy star wars is back putting these movies on trial isn't fair to the new generation of fans it ruins THEIR experience all the haters should respect Jordan and Amber's interests let's support them and leave the grievances alone for their sake
I enjoy all 9 movies. I don't hold the prequels or sequels to the same standard as the trilogy that changed the world. Nothing was ever going to hold up to what the original trilogy did. I just try to watch them as fun sci fi action movies. If that's the standard you are looking for, they do the job great.
I'm old enough that the original trilogy is what I grew up with. Those are still my favorites but I've enjoyed them all. I definitely enjoyed the sequel trilogy more than the prequels but over time I've grown to like the prequels more than I did at first. Even if the people behind the scenes hadn't changed the newer movies were never going to make some people happy. The world has changed, people have changed and lots of people had decades to have their heart set on what "should" have happened. I have a lot of the books and I still enjoy them (the Thrawn Triology was amazing). Any time there is a new Star Wars movie, my son & I will be in the theater on opening weekend - it tradition now.
You have to understand the mind of the fan. We waited so so so long! When we saw Ben (which is a tribute to ObiWon Kenobi) kill his father it was a total gut punch! We reacted the same way you did! The rest of the movie we are in total shock! I swear for a week after I saw this I was reacting like I lost a family friend.
Jay, loved it when you said that the front end of Rey's vehicle looked like a John Deere... my first thought, first time I saw this movie was Massey Ferguson (they're mostly red). I used to tease my sister when she was little because within a month of moving to the part of VA we live in, she could identify any tractor just by the color!
At 42:53 that is the thing about living "happily ever after" as a wise man once said "If you want a happy ending then it depends on where you stop the story" ...Orson Welles so if the story goes on too long then the Heroes become just supporting characters and lose their plot armor to ruin their happy ending. That happened to Han and Leia after Return of the Jedi when they got their happy ending because in the Force Awakens it became Rey's story as the Hero then Han and Leia were only supporting characters that could be disposed of for dramatic effect to serve the plot
I grew up with the originals, I was so happy when the prequels came out, and I was blown away to find out the sequels would have the original characters. I never thought as an adult that we’d get any Star Wars content so as it’s released now, I just feel happy and lucky. Any true Star Wars fan feels the same. This has been fun following your journey and reliving the fun of Star Wars, regardless of who makes it!
Ren's lightsaber is also a relatively new item in star wars the crossguard part isn't the jedi of the era known as the High Republic owned a saber like that it's such a cool design What's new about it is the blade, in case you didn't notice, was crackling that's because Ren's kyber crystal is damaged and therefore not perpetuating a stream of energy like normal instead it exudes more energy than it should so, Ren built a bypass system - the crossguard, so the excess energy can launch outward what's more, it's extremely heavy to wield so you need a STRONG Force attunement to have this as a weapon the crackling blade will mean more as the trilogy continues
@@User87_ knock it off you jerks as far as the contiunation of the canon filling goes, the crossguard is from the High Republic (ever heard of Jedi Survivor or the book series?); so until James Mangold's movie comes out and refutes this info: piss off!
I'll never forget when I saw this movie in theaters when it first came out, I remember the whole theater went completely silent and I heard a lot of sniffs and i saw people trying to hold they're tears when Han died.
I just love how you two only see the joy in these movies, which were heavily criticized by the fans, but watching with you makes me just enjoy watching them again, and forget about all the negatives. Thank you for an awesome reaction. Love you both.
@@peteparker22 "Some" translates to about 40% of the globe so that makes the number of lovers of the trilogy that much smaller its claustrophobic but I try not to let it bother me
What I love about Han's story is that at first he was a loner who only trusted one being: his copilot who is bonded to him for life by Empire, he was getting the hang of being a team player but still had his past haunting him and it finally bit him in the ass by the end of it and into Jedi by that point, he was all in, fully embracing his love for Leia and the cause but there was still one thing missing: understanding who Luke and Leia really are he still respected the Force and rolled with it but never read between the lines when he had his son, Ben, the next member of the mighty Skywalker bloodline, he witnessed what it all meant Han's "its all true" speech hits home more than one realizes he helped create a person who can use the Force with utter ferocity he tried to be a good father and deal with this the best he could it goes well with his character he didn't know how to be one since he didn't have a family growing up, so he couldn't raise a child with warmth and discipline Seeing him perish at the hands of the man who he tried to help one last time was hard to say the least his scene with Ren was probably the most fatherly he's been to him ever, if not years, before he started to train with Luke Seeing him again after all that time on Takodana made him think one thing: he HAD to try to bring him back or die trying, even though he was hesitant in doing so It may have been a devastating development but Han going out like that makes sense, on account of his story and Ren's conflict I know I know... patricide is an outrage but hey its star wars Vader and Luke traded hands being cut off it comes with the territory
The island Luke is on is on or near Ireland. The silver Stormtrooper is Phasma and is played by none other than the woman that played Brianne of Tarth from Game of Thrones.
I’m glad that you’ve resumed watching Star Wars! I watched this one in the theater with my family, and my 65-year-old mom yelled “Nolll” when Han Solo died lol. I hope you watch Solo: A Star Wars Story at some point. it’s a a fun buddy / heist movie. it gives you Han’s backstory, including meeting Chewbacca. Just watch it all the way through, because there’s an important scene after the credits! I love your channel - keep up the great work!
By the way, the actor who plays FN (John Boyega) is in a really, really cool science-fiction horror film titled, "Attack the Block" (2011). Y'all should truly check that one out on your channel here! It was Boyega's first big break movie, and what put him on the map as a sought after talent in Hollywood.
I like the juxtaposition of Ren's tantrums with Vader's. Darth would choke someone but he always seemed in control as opposed the Kylo tearing shit up with his lightsaber
An untrained nobody goes toe to toe with Kylo Ren and basically gets the better of him. Trained by Luke Skywalker. 😂🥱 Soo believable. Other than that, I liked it.
I'm so glad you didn't let people sway you away from these movies. When your done don't forget about Rogue One and the Han Solo movie. Been a fan since 1977 and love these movies too.
You can always watch the Han Solo, A Star Wars Story to learn when Han Solo was young, a different actor too.. The next 2 movies are all over the place. Executives fighting where franchise to go. That lightsaber was Anakins and Luke lightsaber when he lost his hand. They didn't tie up everything like they should have.
Wish I could give more than just this little Thanks for all your PHENOMENAL reactions, but I hope this lets you know you're very much admired and appreciated for all the long, hard labors of love you put into your movie & music reactions. Bless You, Peace, Love, And Joy To You Always, Soul Brother & Soul Sister!
A shame u donated that 2 weeks ago and they still havent even acknowledged you or thanked you. Even more, they havent acknowledged a single person in the comments! And they never do. Theres way better people like EOM Reacts. That dude is silly AF and at least he thanks people and acknowledges and appreciates them
Fun Fact for you, Jay and Amber: The actor who played General Hux is the same actor who played Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, specifically in "The Deathly Hallows"
Off topic from Star Wars, but a movie i think yall should keep in mind is Empire of the Sun. The movie is directed by Stephen Spielberg and stars a young Christian Bale. Movie has a great cast along with an excellent sound track and imo just as a whole is a brilliant film. I cant find anybody who’s actually reacted to it but its an amazing film and deserves to be seen. Think its one yall will end up loving.
LOVED Y'all's reaction. Gave me more appreciation for it. No spoilers from me, but just some clarifications and trivia about this movie... (1) Chewbacca was in Revenge of the Sith. He was one of the two Wookiees that said goodbye to Yoda when he left Kashyyyk. (2) When the Republic became the Empire, they eventually stopped using clones and recruited citizens to become Stormtroopers. After the Empire fell, the First Order then used the policy of forcefully taking children to raise as stormtroopers. (3) They didn't mean to suggest Snoke was a giant. It was just a large holo projection, like when Vader talked to the Emperor in Empire Strikes Back. (4) Many would recognize the lightsaber as the specific one that belonged to Anakin, which Luke was using when his hand was cut off. The sound of the children screaming were the Younglings that Anakin killed in Revenge of the Sith. (5) It's not made very obvious, but Rey only learned how to do the Jedi Mind Trick and lightsaber fight, etc. AFTER the scene where Kylo Ren when he was trying to probe her mind on the star destroyer and she reversed it. There is a reason why that was possible here, but it's something unique going on and I won't spoil it. (6) Starkiller Base was made out of the planet Ilum, which was a planet where the Jedi used to get their kyber crystals for their lightsabers. The Kyber in the planet is what makes its weapon possible. ALSO: Yall should watch "Solo: A Star Wars Story" that tells the story of young Han Solo. And, "Rogue One" that takes place just before the original Star Wars (Episode 4).
I have been the biggest fan of this series since day 1. I remember seeing the original Star Wars in the theater. I camped out in line to see the first of the prequels. I was keeping it alive reading the books and comics in all the 16 years between. And I was there opening night for The Force Awakens with my son, this was his first Star Wars experience actually in the theater and he was already a huge fan. And I have to say, as literally a life long fan, The Force Awakens left me breathless and speechless and overwhelmed with love for this new trilogy. I would never say the saga is perfect, but any one Star Wars movie is always more of a roller coaster than almost any other franchise. It’s so great to see people come to these sequels fresh, because they have some of the most iconic moments of the whole saga. Love all your channels.
Two words...Rouge One. I saw the original Star Wars in the theater in the 70's so I have been a fan for quite a while. And Rogue One is probably my favorite of them all. Love the channel guys!
Now just remember as much as Chewie loved Han, he also saw Ben grow up from a baby until now. That's basically Ben's uncle shooting at him at the end. 😅 Definitely looking forward to seeing what your reaction to the rest of the movies is. As Palpatine said "we will watch your career with great interest".
I will never understand why anyone thought it was a good idea to have Leia and Chewbacca literally ignore each other after Han's death but have Leia and Rey, who have never met in their life, hug and comfort each other for their loss. These sequels get an abusrd amount of hate they don't really deserve, but if you're being honest, they're also full of all manner of stupid things like this.
Great Reaction! I have been a life long Star Wars fan and the hype that was built up to this movie was something unbelievable and I personally thought it lived up to the hype, this is one of my favorite Star Wars movies hands down. I am sure you have heard some moans and groans about the sequel trilogy but go into them with an open mind because I think it is a fun ride!
I was one that had to wait the many years to get to this movie. I had trouble with them killing Han off before we got to see Leia, Luke and Han together again. The story arch introduced some interesting new characters in Kylo, Rey and Finn. It wasn't the best story of all the stories, but at this point I didn't care, I got to see my childhood Star Wars characters back. It set the scene for what was hopefully going to get even better. Glad you liked it.
I felt the same way, being a kid in the 2000s again thanks to the second return of the saga sure I have some reservations but they don't detract from the experience star wars is star wars no matter what
Some other interesting facts for you guys: The characters Kylo Ren, and Maz Kanata (the short alien lady who liked Chewbacca) were first introduced in an animated short titled, "Star Tours: The Adventure Continues" back in 2011. Adam Driver voiced the character then, just as he played the live action character in this film. The actress, Lupita Nyong'o (of Black Panther fame) voiced the character of Maz in both The Adventure Continues, and in The Force Awakens.
I am a George Lucas fan and supporter. Anybody who loves the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogies is a traitor to George Lucas and the work that he has done. Also, the people who Love the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy are stupid. The Star Wars sequel trilogies is a piece of crap. Kathleen Kennedy and Disney ruin the Star Wars sequel trilogies. Before George Lucas sold his company to Disney. He sold his treatments of the sequel trilogies to Disney as well. because he was already working on episode 7,8,and 9 before he sold his company to Disney. But Disney just said F U we're doing it our way. I found out what George Lucas's version of the sequel trilogies and It would have been way better than what Disney put out. Also, Kathleen Kennedy and James Mangold ruined Indiana Jones 5 movie. Katherine Kennedy is now known as the franchise killer. She ruined the Star Wars franchise and the Indiana Jones franchise. In light of Disney's current financial troubles. I Hope Disney will lose so much money that they will have no choices to sell Lucas film. Hopefully someone worthy would buy it and get rid of the sequel trilogies. Kathleen Kennedy and all her cronies should be fired. That's why I did not go see Indiana Jones 5 and I will not even bother to see it for free because I am a George Lucas fan and supporter. Because of what Disney did to Star Wars and Lucas film. George Lucas supporters, who are fans of the first 6 Star Wars movies which are the original trilogies and the prequel trilogies. They are also fans of the first 3 Indiana Jones movies. They are not going to go see Indiana Jones 5 Because how Kathleen Kennedy treated the Indiana Jones character. Within a short Period of time., Disney lost over a billion dollars because of the several flopped movies. The Little Mermaid Live Action,Elemento, and Indiana Jones 5. There was a rumor that Disney might sell Lucas film. Although it's a rumor I really really hope that it was true. Also Disney stock was at $144 a share and drop to $88 a share currently. At the Indiana Jones 5 Hollywood premiere. On stage Steven Spielberg snubbed Kathlyn Kennedy and Frank Marshall her husband. In my opinion. Anybody who likes the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogies are not George Lucas fans or supporters. If anybody wants to know what George Lucas's sequel trilogies were going to be like. check out the book. The Star Wars archives XXL volume 1 and 2.
True, so they don't witness 40 years of awesome lore tossed away by a weak plot and even weaker character development that was produced by a team that literally hates Luke Skywalker. Though, of the newest 3 films...this one is definitely the least offensive. The one after this is without a doubt the worst piece of Star Wars media ever.
@@snakebite6x6x6Well of course! If JJ could have done all three it would have been epic. Luke wouldn’t have been done the way Rian did. Rian isn’t a fan…he’s an opportunist who didn’t know the lore or the characters well enough
52:50 The plot armor is outta this world🤣 never used a sword in her life but can out duel someone who’s trained with Luke Skywalker with ease… 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Han-“That’s not how The Force works” 🤣 53:22 Also it’s really annoying Disney keeps trying to portray women as JUST AS physically strong as men 🤦♂️🤣 Like seriously!?! C’mon you gonna tell me at a straight up physical arm strength match right there that they are evenly matched?!? 🤣 can we stop being delusional here. This why so many 120lbs women out here trying to attack bouncers at the clubs and such, delusional! 🤡 I get the ‘girl power’ crap but lets have at least a little bit of realism 😂 And let’s not forgot they KILLED HAN, replaced him with Ray (so now Chuey is Rays companion and she owns the Millennium Falcon 🤦♂️), and THEN they give us Luke who has ABANDONED his friends to fight the empire by themselves and went to hide and sulk in seclusion. Great story….. 🙄 You can COMPLETELY feel how they are trying to throw away the old generation and replace everyone. For example the light speed issues that helped cement rules of physics in this universe…. Oh Rey just ‘Bypasses’ it and ‘fixes’ it simply by RIPPING OFF a component 🤦♂️ wtf, just so dumb and blatant how they try to build up this Mary Sue of a character! 🙄👎🏻
Thank you guys for resuming your Star Wars journey! You still have a ways to go, and each piece is a vital part of the entire story: 4 more movies, 4 tv series, 3 animated series and more content on the way. I saw the life-changing original trilogy films when they first came out. But I still love the prequels, sequels, and all of the other movies and shows. Just ignore the haters. Please keep the Star Wars reactions coming. I'll gladly watch all of it with you, even if you decide to tackle the tv shows. I'm on the ride til the end! Star Wars, making people smile since 1977!
A couple of objects you see from the 1st movie. When Finn is reaching in the bag for tools that round ball is what Luke was trying to hit with his saber with they eye goggles on. Also that weird live beasts chess game is what Chewy and R2D2 were playing. Hans told R2 to let Chewy win since he could rip his arm off.
i once saw this film described as “the best tv pilot of all time” and I think that’s perfect- it does such a nice job re-introducing the world to Star Wars with new characters and themes ❤
Wow!! so much fun to watch you guys react to this one. I so wish you could have seen it in theaters in 2015 and experienced the collective gasp in the packed theater when we first saw the Millenium Falcon and then Han and Chewy. Keep in mind it had been 32 years since we had seen those characters. If you continue going in order by release date the next film is Rogue One A Star Wars Story, released in 2016, it is not part of the third trilogy but a spin off . In order of the story it takes place right before Star Wars number 4 A New Hope. I am an OG fan that saw the originals in the theater, so I am part of that tough crowd, yet I would rank this right below the first three it is so so good!!
Agreed! Def my 4th fav Star Wars movie. JJ Abrams did such a good job with this one. And I joined the collective gasp of the female audience when Kylo Ren took off his mask. Who knew that the Dark Side could be so sexy!? Yes, I know, I'm a total traitor, I'm a Reylo fan. And I was openly sobbing when Han was killed, but I understood when I read afterwards that the actor said he would only come back if they killed him off.
I saw the original (Episode IV, A New Hope) , and I'm so appreciative of the fact that Amber understands what it was like to wait years between the release of each film. I (along with about 300 other people) literally slept overnight on a sidewalk in San Francisco the night before the premier of Episode VI, to be sure I could see it on the first day and avoid spoiling the news about whether Darth Vader was actually Luke's father. I love, also, that you guys get how emotionally satisfying it was to see old characters re-united, story lines continued, and new characters introduced. I'm loving the experience of watching you two go through the same process. May the Force be With You.
This channel is like a breath of fresh air! It’s been so much fun watching your genuine reactions to some of my favorite films of all time. On a random side note, my family and I lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma for several years and I can tell you that Okies are some of the coolest people I’ve met. Keep up the good work! Boomer Sooner!! 🏈🏈🏈
Amber gets me! Rey became my favorite immediately! She was everything I’d dreamed of since childhood when I became a Star Wars fan. This was such an experience in theaters. I saw it twice opening night and worked at a theater at the time, so it was a crazy weekend for me. It felt so good to be back in a galaxy far, far away. I used to watch the scene where Rey meets BB-8 every shift to test our devices. The character intros in this movie are some of Star Wars’ best. This movie and the next one are two of my favorite Star Wars movies, so I’m excited for these reactions.
The islands are real, they are called the Skelling Islands off the Easten cost of England. Long ago monks lived there. You'll see more of them in the next episode
The Skelligs are situated off the West Coast of Ireland just off the county of Kerry, not the English coast. They are a chain of islands which were inhabited about 1000 years ago just by monks. The type of stone huts Luke and Rey use in the next film are modelled after the little stone dwellings which the monks used.
RIP Carrie Fisher. Every time I see this it reminds me that Star Wars 4 (1976) was her first major role. And it was the role she played when she died prematurely at only 60.
Fun fact, when Rey is first using the force to mind control the storm trooper at 41:39, the actor underneath the helmet is actually Daniel Craig, who played as James Bond in the last six movies. He just wanted to be apart of the Star Wars franchise so they had him do this small cameo just for fun.
@@idiot_city5444 more and more are realizing this and becoming vocal about it. We aren’t standing for it anymore while everything good is destroyed and then replaced with content that’s just to make more useless merch and create more useless idiot buyers who will “consume product and get excited about next new product and then consume it all over again”
I remember watching this movie with my sister, my Dad, my cousin and my aunt. My cousin decided to wear his newly-acquired STORMTROOPER armour to the movie, and we got to watch it at an IMAX theater. This was an A-MAZ-ING experience, and this movie was just incredible to watch. Just you two wait! This franchise is only going to great crazier! Thanks Rob Squad for watching this! I love this movie!
I can't say I like this third trilogy as much as the first but I do think with Episodes 7 8 and 9, each one is better than the one before. I know you guys will enjoy them.
As an old fan, Han being killed (even though I knew it was going to happen because Harrison Ford didn't ever want to play that character again), is one of the few things in cinema that ever got me misty-eyed. To this day I turn my head and won't watch it happen when I watch this movie. People were so excited when they found out the original characters were going to be back. I think a lot of people thought they were going to be what the movies were about and that's why there was so much hatred for the sequels. While there are a few things I think could have been done better (especially in the 2nd film) I understood that the original cast, after all these years and at their age, had to be secondary characters going forward and was the only thing that made sense in the big picture story. I like this trilogy overall. Of course, me being an old-timer, nothing beats the original trilogy.
As someone who left the theater after this movie feeling very "meh," these are some of the things the never left my mind from the story telling in this movie: -The fact that Finn used a lightsaber despite no acknowledgement to his connection to the Force or any ability seems very out of nowhere. -Rey seemed quite skilled with a staff as her carried weapon, but her proficiency with a sword/saber seems out of nowhere and the fact that she could keep up with Kylo Ren days after learning of the force...seemed a bit much. This doubles with all her showing of using the Force with no real knowledge of the Force. -Han actually activating Kylo's saber to kill himself as Snoke required Kylo to kill Han to prove he has completely given to the Dark Side of the Force. Kylo was unable to do it. This action didn't get enough flare compared to other show stopping moments that should be imprinted in your mind -Pacing of the movie felt almost identical to Star Wars IV: A New Hope. While it's nice to carry it on, it just felt like a copy paste of direction at parts without really feeling new. There are things to pick apart and be upset about but I will admit it is an entertaining movie. The distaste and hatred a lot of people felt at the time was because it wasn't the movie "they expected" but instead the movie Disney told. Also Disney had removed all of the novels from the cannon after acquiring the franchise which had left a lot of the fan base hurt. I will state again, it is an entertaining movie and most people will love it. When you hear about people disliking it, there are a laundry list of things people will complain about BUT the movie did what was intended...entertain.
This story did mirror episode IV pretty well, but so did episode I. It’s like each trilogy follows the same formula so they could almost stand alone from the others.
I love this movie so much! It really has everything a fan could want - cool characters, rad fight scenes (which have only gotten better!), the light humor sprinkled throughout, and the heavy stuff that makes your jaw drop. Looking forward to your reactions for the next 2 films in this trilogy AND you HAVE to watch "Rogue One"!!!!
@@nathanpapp432 Stop being a hater. You're probably one of those people who shits on all sequels of all movies. When u watch Force Awakens, you can really appreciate the time, love, care, appreciation and admiration JJ Abrams had for the originals. It's plain as day. It's not easy to direct a new Star Wars movie and know theres a billion pounds of pressure on you. Just look at how terrible 8 and 9 were without Abrams.. I bet you hate Rogue One too
Hux, the redheaded Nazi guy, might have looked familiar to you if he'd been in more than a few minutes' worth of his previous famous films. He played one of the older Weasley brothers in the Harry Potter franchise. Bill, I think? Talk about night and day. The "death star" base in this was called Starkiller Base, which is a tribute to what would have been Luke's surname. George was going to call him Luke Starkiller, then changed it to Skywalker later on. I didn't think much of JJ Abrams rebooting Star Trek -- he doesn't really "get" Star Trek. But he did AMAZING with this, and this entire film is a love letter to the fans. I couldn't believe how many of them complained about it afterwards. I have really developed an allergy to fandoms over the years. They are so disappointing.
Like you said in the beginning...imagine growing up with these movies, and waiting so long to heat that music again! I saw this in the Theater, the day it came out, and as soon as the music started....I bawled like a baby. Lol. There are so many emotional parts to this movie for me. Ugh.....im so glad you are loving the trilogy!!!
When I was in the theatre the entire audience screamed when Han got killed. I was sobbing. I liked it. I'm 73 and a big Star Wars fan since the beginning.
Your son did as well.
I cried like hell tooo
Han
I didn't cry then....but when I saw Rogue One, it was just after Carrie Fisher passed. When she appeared on the screen, and said, "Hope", I wept like a broken-hearted child.
To be fair, Carrie Fisher didn't appear in Rogue One, but I get where you're coming from.
You will really love Rogue One - it’s a great movie and fits in so well in the story! It takes place several years after Episode III right before Episode IV. And another great female lead character.
Rogue One has become my favourite Star Wars movie. The hallway scene is my favourite scene in all of Star Wars. Best droid in too.
If by "great female lead character" you mean a cliche, boring character that is barely even a character to begin with then hell yea lol
The best, by far, of any Disney SW content...
Rogue One is the best movie. It provides a sense of completion. really fills in the details
The best Star Wars move. Period.
I love how Han tells the story of the force being real in the exact same spot he said he didn’t believe in the force
It's like poetry, it rhymes.

That's a whole fanfiction.
You're right about Ben, but I don't think that's what Han meant. I'm pretty sure Han was trying to draw him back from the Dark Side.

I go with that, as well.

I think Prince Harry and Prince William are Stormtroopers in it as well, but I dont remember which ones they cameoed.

I saw all of these movies in the theater, and my parents took me to see a new hope in 1977. When the opening music of this movie started, I teared up a bit, sitting in the theater with my sons. And don't get me started on how gutted I felt after the Han Solo scene...
I also saw the original trilogy when first released.
So I don't even want to discuss Han being murdered. Still hurts
Great to re-watch this movie again mates❤❤❤

Although the Imperial Stormtroopers were regular soldiers that basically were selected due to their performance to be special forces.
Jay going through an emotional rollercoaster cracks me up. 😆 Great honest reaction guys. That Han scene hit us all hard.
Yeah, it may not have been Peter Mayhew but it was still Han & Chewie sooo totally understandable.😄😄😄
That’s also anakins lightsaber that obi wan picks up at the end of revenge of the sith
@@Duffman69able Exactly. That's an OLD saber. And that's why Ben Solo wants it. It's his grandfather's saber.

Most of the disagreements among fans is generational. Each generation's trilogy is typically their favorite. You guys have the luxury of watching these in a short time frame and being able to evaluate them more objectively than most. It's nice to be on this ride with you. :)
exactly!
And it's allllll downhill from here.
I believe that the most impressive thing any force user did in any of the main films was Vader force choking someone to death on an entirely different ship just because he could see him
The voice of Snoke (Andy Serkis), also voice of Smeagle/Gollum (LOTR), voice of Caesar in the newer Planet of the Apes movies.
I couldn't agree more the behavior of the fans who hate this makes absolutely no sense new, or in this case, recycled stuff doesn't mean it's stupid
@@KarlKraus1 Yes it does. But more to the point, it is about respecting the old characters and turning their back utterly on Lucas and what they promised him they would do.
Hey I love the original characters too buy they can't hang around forever hell Harrison didn't want to be around it anymore everyone expecting to see something and getting nowhere near whatever that is the root problem here too many things to list here regarding that

That giggle at the end Amber is completely fascinated by Star Wars you guys are fun to watch.
Ren's lightsaber is also a relatively new item in star wars
the crossguard part isn't the jedi of the era known as the High Republic owned a saber like that it's such a cool design
What's new about it is the blade, in case you didn't notice, was crackling that's because Ren's kyber crystal is damaged and therefore not perpetuating a stream of energy like normal instead it exudes more energy than it should so, Ren built a bypass system - the crossguard, so the excess energy can launch outward what's more, it's extremely heavy to wield so you need a STRONG Force attunement to have this as a weapon
the crackling blade will mean more as the trilogy continues
Wrong they used crossed light sabers in the old republic it’s not new KK wants you to believe it’s new and she created it 🙄🙄🙄

What I love about Han's story is that at first he was a loner who only trusted one being: his copilot who is bonded to him for life
by Empire, he was getting the hang of being a team player but still had his past haunting him and it finally bit him in the ass by the end of it and into Jedi
by that point, he was all in, fully embracing his love for Leia and the cause but there was still one thing missing: understanding who Luke and Leia really are
he still respected the Force and rolled with it but never read between the lines when he had his son, Ben, the next member of the mighty Skywalker bloodline, he witnessed what it all meant Han's "its all true" speech hits home more than one realizes he helped create a person who can use the Force with utter ferocity he tried to be a good father and deal with this the best he could it goes well with his character he didn't know how to be one since he didn't have a family growing up, so he couldn't raise a child with warmth and discipline
Seeing him perish at the hands of the man who he tried to help one last time was hard to say the least his scene with Ren was probably the most fatherly he's been to him ever, if not years, before he started to train with Luke
Seeing him again after all that time on Takodana made him think one thing: he HAD to try to bring him back or die trying, even though he was hesitant in doing so
It may have been a devastating development but Han going out like that makes sense, on account of his story and Ren's conflict
I know I know... patricide is an outrage but hey its star wars Vader and Luke traded hands being cut off it comes with the territory
I couldn't have said it better myself!
The island Luke is on is on or near Ireland. The silver Stormtrooper is Phasma and is played by none other than the woman that played Brianne of Tarth from Game of Thrones.

I like the juxtaposition of Ren's tantrums with Vader's. Darth would choke someone but he always seemed in control as opposed the Kylo tearing shit up with his lightsaber
Because Kylo Ren is so conflicted internally, he is constantly fighting
An untrained nobody goes toe to toe with Kylo Ren and basically gets the better of him. Trained by Luke Skywalker. 😂🥱 Soo believable. Other than that, I liked it.

Oh they won't listen to any of the bad takes they love this no matter what if they love the prequels, they'll love these three as well

I felt the same way, being a kid in the 2000s again thanks to the second return of the saga sure I have some reservations but they don't detract from the experience star wars is star wars no matter what
No it's not. One chance to reunite the big four and they blew it. The way Luke is treated is sorry. Just effin sorry!
It was a cheap recreation of a New Hope
We never see Luke Leia and Han together again lol...
It’s so nice to see people experience this movie without 40 years of expectations influencing their opinion.
The Little Mermaid Live Action,Elemento,
and Indiana Jones 5.
Thanks!
Watching the Han/Ben scene in theaters was a punch to the gut! I cried! 😢
52:50 The plot armor is outta this world🤣 never used a sword in her life but can out duel someone who’s trained with Luke Skywalker with ease… 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Han-“That’s not how The Force works” 🤣
53:22 Also it’s really annoying Disney keeps trying to portray women as JUST AS physically strong as men 🤦♂️🤣
Like seriously!?! C’mon you gonna tell me at a straight up physical arm strength match right there that they are evenly matched?!? 🤣 can we stop being delusional here. This why so many 120lbs women out here trying to attack bouncers at the clubs and such, delusional! 🤡 I get the ‘girl power’ crap but lets have at least a little bit of realism 😂
And let’s not forgot they KILLED HAN, replaced him with Ray (so now Chuey is Rays companion and she owns the Millennium Falcon 🤦♂️), and THEN they give us Luke who has ABANDONED his friends to fight the empire by themselves and went to hide and sulk in seclusion.
There is 6 Star Wars films George Lucus made then there is Disneywars. :)
It was also at the same point in the game where R2 and Chewie paused it. A 40 year game save file, literally.
Are you saying let the Wookie win?
My husband and I cried when we heard the theme song come in. It felt so good
I would love to see Star Trek reactions on Your channel.
The movies? They only do movies.
The new ones ...
I love Star Trek even better than Star Wars! Would love to see the Star Trek movies on here!❤
As long as they skip the one with whales and hippie spock...🤣🤣🤣
@@TheSksextonit’s not amazing by any means….but that movie is fun.
Better than most of the new Star Wars stuff 🤣🤣🤣
i once saw this film described as “the best tv pilot of all time” and I think that’s perfect- it does such a nice job re-introducing the world to Star Wars with new characters and themes ❤
As lifelong Star Wars fan (born in '77) don't listen to the naysayers. This trilogy is INCREDIBLE!!! ❤❤
It's totally wretched.
Your the reason we get trash
I remember happily screaming when Han Solo & Chewie arrived on the Millennium Falcon. The gorgeous Princess Leia 🥺 RIP Carrie Fisher. 💔
Wow!! so much fun to watch you guys react to this one.
My husband and I also lived in Bartlesville for 6 years, both of our sons were born there. I love the Rob Squad reactions and watch them every day.
Yup when Solo got killed, people went OFF lol. Was a treat to see you all get to these so quickly
I remember standing in line to watch the original in the 70's. The wait between these episodes was both beautiful and dreadful at the same time.
RIP Carrie Fisher. Every time I see this it reminds me that Star Wars 4 (1976) was her first major role. And it was the role she played when she died prematurely at only 60.
I’m so glad you guys loved this!!! I cant recommend watching the shows on your own time even just to flesh out the plot even more.
Fun bit of trivia: the Stormtrooper that Rey mind tricks into releasing her was played by former James Bond actor Daniel Craig.
"That's not how the force works!" They had some great lines in this movie. This is my favorite of the last trilogy. I hope you enjoy the next two.
Easily the best of this trilogy but that's not exactly a high bar. TFA could've been 1/10th as good as it was and still be the best of this trilogy.
This is genuinely one of my favourite Star Wars films. It just has so much heart and soul put into it.
It's a literal rehash of a new hope down to the tiny details lol. There is no heart and soul in these Disney SW films whatsoever
@@idiot_city5444 at least Andor was actually kind of good! It’d be less bombed on if it came out before ROP and Obi Wan garbage fires… 😂😅
As someone who left the theater after this movie feeling very "meh," these are some of the things the never left my mind from the story telling in this movie:
-The fact that Finn used a lightsaber despite no acknowledgement to his connection to the Force or any ability seems very out of nowhere.
This action didn't get enough flare compared to other show stopping moments that should be imprinted in your mind
-Pacing of the movie felt almost identical to Star Wars IV: A New Hope.
I knew you guys would like these. I'm glad you didn't listen to the haters. Excited for the next one
Too bad the writing comes across like a 12 year-old's bad fanfiction.
@@nathanpapp432 Still better and more enjoyable than the prequels.
@@samhainkid No, it's really not.
@@nathanpapp432 ok then. you have your opinion and I have mine. whatever.
Been a fan since the 70s when I was a kid and I love all 3 trilogies... I hope you have fun with the sequels!!
