I’m a retired NICU nurse. She wanted to be with the “ sickest” babies in her level of NICU. In the US there are basically 4 levels of care. Level 1: well babies, Level 2: premature infants or infants with issues, ie respiratory, jaundice etc, from 32 weeks gestation up, Level 3: infants from 24 weeks up requiring higher intensity of care, intubation, chest tubes, etc. these infants are obviously at higher risk of having medical issues. Level 4. Only a few hospitals have level 4 status. Any age infant requiring complicated surgery, ie cardiac surgery.
A level 3 NICU has level 3 and level 2 infants in it.
Many of the infants Lucy letby attacked were very stable 32 week twins and triplets. In my experience natural triplets do very well. They were stable and doing well when she killed two of them. It sounds like they may have been a level 3 initially but then the doctor downgraded to a level 2 because of all the incidents? But many of the infants sounded like they were around the 32 weeks and up and stable. We would not expect them to die. Once in awhile there could be a death unexpectedly, but this was usually due to sepsis, Nec, or rare underlying medical condition. We would not see the amount of deaths that were occuring due to Lucy Letbys killings. I can’t believe the management covered that up!!

As American NON medical professional (I was in a laboratory specialty years back) I'd like to thank you and all the good nurses throughout the planet for being hard working. No way I could do that job without the stress and tears of constant sickness and death. I still can't bring myself to believe this woman was this sick and heartless. Maybe she was trying to play games and save them...but even that is high level psychopathy imo. I hope I never need hospital help until Im knocking on death's door or too old. In NYC, some of the doctors themselves seem next level socio/psychopaths. Scary world we live in.

Lot of me wonders if she’s been used as a scapegoat to some extent to cover up internal failings.
What does make me think she is guilty is her attitude of being beyond reproach & any/all scrutiny, to the point where she made management give her a written apology when they initially suggested she was responsible for injuries.
If I put myself in her position, even with one death on my watch I’d be doing a whole lot of self reflection about what I could have done better. 2 deaths? I’d be seriously considering whether I was fit to continue in that job instead of demanding written apologies.
I know nothing about this sort of nursing but this is my opinion as a layman.

Ted Bundy was in college when he committed his first murder, Russell Williams was 40 years old, his methods were all different, Lucy waited as well until it hit her one day that babies couldn't fight back. If she had used repeated methods, they would have noticed sooner if she had used the same method over and over, so she varied her methods but still the same venerable babies. What I think, completely my thoughts is that she was always rescued by her parents, and she played the helpless little girl card, just think for a second, in the witness box she had a "comfort blanket" what 33-year-old woman holds a comfort blanket. She was clearly playing the little girl as she did with her parents. Not all Serials killed kittens when they were young. but they sure thought about it. Cary Stayner never killed an animal or human until he was 31. He said he just held it in until he couldn't anymore. Women serials can be very very cunning. PS: your a good storyteller. Love it.

I agree William, this whole case is baffling. She doesn't seem the type at all to commit these crimes. I think you hit it on the head when you mentioned getting her "rush". Whether she is a sadist or just a covert narcissist, I think she experienced an infantile death or maybe a few deaths at Liverpool then Chester. This titillated her, like a heroin or coke addict getting their first high, or a gambler with a first throw of the dice or wager. It could've even been sexually stimulating like Karla Faye Tucker mentioned concerning her murderous acts.
She started with all good intentions. She had a great career, she was paying off a house and certainly with patience a future suitor. But she tossed it all away to become likely the most heinous murderer of recent memory in the United Kingdom; hard to top murdering and attempting to murder this many infants who were already facing difficult challenges.
As someone in the "comments" pointed out about serial killers and murderers beginning at different times in their lives, it makes me wonder if this behavior was a result of a brain tumor/lession or a biochemical change.
Anyway, I hope she allows scientists to study her brain. But I am not holding my breath.

Lucy Letby, an only child brought up by doting parents, knows for sure that as soon as she is let free in to the mainstream female inmates, they will seek to vent their rage - pls remember those inmates have full access to media - the tabloid press are proficient in touching our raw emotions. Even the prison guards will hold a burning fire of rage… she harmed the most vulnerable of our society. If I was a prison guard, trust me I’d look the other way if anything kicked off. Some of you on here can't seem to grasp the amount of work put in, regarding the investigation.
So here is a video of the Dr who investigated the crimes, he worked tirelessly to get to the correct conclusions. He worked on the cases on an individual case by case basis.
He was entirely independent of the hospital involved.
He had no prior knowledge of what was suspected, he worked completely blind on each of the cases. He had no names of the medical staff potentially involved.
He could see these deaths were deliberate acts of sabotage, it could not be accidental, or malpractice.
So essentially there has been 2 investigations carried out, on each baby.
    1 by the Police
    1 by the investigating Dr.
Both investigations entirely independent of each other, draw the exact same conclusions.
If you believe she is completely innocent, how do you explain the medical notes of the specific babies found in her home?
That is highly illegal, due to Data Protection laws.
Those documents cannot for any reason, leave the hospital... BY LAW.
How do you explain her checking out the families Facebook accounts,? Many many times, this too goes against every ethic and law within Health and social care.
How do you explain her being on every single shift?

@@WilliamBonneyPodcast. You hear of stories were some people are compulsive thieves, whereas they have gone into a shop without any initial intention of theft, don’t need to steal items for any kind of financial gain but they just find themselves in a situation where the opportunity presents itself and impulsively they suddenly feel the instant need to just take that item that doesn’t belong to them, an item they don’t even want or need. They take that item because they have some kind of sudden & overwhelming inexplicable urge to “just do it” for no other reason than just doing it.
Lucy Letby, albeit far, far more serious consequences all round may have been possessed with these overwhelming, instant & inexplicable compulsive urges because the opportunity presented itself, overwhelming urges that of all people even she wasn’t aware she had until she started having them so there was no historic tell tale signs from her youth or upbringing, urges that even Lucy Letby can’t explain, understand or comprehend herself. There is probably a psychological or mental disorder that explains this behaviour.

A couple of other things about Letby: she seems tall for an English woman which may have impacted her self image and her ability to find a boyfriend; in photos, her chums seem to be older (are these just people on her shift or did she gravitate to older people?); her own birth was a bit difficult as she was supposedly born premature as I recall; she appears to me quite immature with all the stuffed animals and Disney stuff (like a 10 year old); and she was smothered via coddling from her parents (I've never seen that turn out good).
In addition, I realize she was concentrating on her career, but no boyfriend until her escapades with this married doctor? I find that quite odd. She is fairly attractive and had a good career before being arrested. Perhaps guys picked up on her issues through her behavior (haughty, standoffish?). She may also be shy. It seems like she has a kind of "arrested development". Mystified she didn't have other relationships. In fact, was her relationship with the doctor even consummated? Or was she just "the office wife" to him?

The Dr who was entirely independent of the hospital, who investigated the crimes. He was given all medical notes, but no names of medical staff. Initially many of the babies deaths were attributed to natural causes. However he looked at what happened, when it happened in each individual case and could see, the deaths were in no way natural, they were deliberate, not malpractice.
He could see tampering with insulin had happened in some cases. He could see the amounts of milk fed to the babies, due to the large amounts of vomit, did not tally with what was written down as the milk that was given. The volume of vomit was just too high. Then he said the most difficult was the air in the feeding tube, as it is so dangerous and an occurrence is so very rare, it was harder to completely work out, put together, there wasn't much out there to go on, in previous medical cases. It was largely unprecedented.
Dr's do not do these tasks, the nurses undertake these tasks. Upon tracing back, who did what, when, there was only Letby who was on every single shift, when these things happened. You pair that with keeping those particular babies medical notes at home, highly illegal, pertaining to GDPR laws. Also the fact that she was checking the parents Facebook pages, many, many times, that too goes against all training in the care sector.
Alongside 7 separate Peadeatricians stating they weren't happy about her presence on the ward.

It isn't, the evidence of causes of deaths is overwhelming. Those deaths cannot be accidental or malpractice, they had to be a deliberate act of sabotage.
The police investigation, was entirely separate to the medical investigation. The Dr who carried out the medical investigation, did it blind, he had no knowledge of the police suspicions.
He had to trace everything back on medical notes, signs and symptoms.
He worked on each case, individually, which is why it took such a long time to bring it all together and put to a judge and jury.

    • @leen1q84

I think it may be more that she was a premie baby herself who had a difficult birth & was quite poorly as a child, who was then smothered by her parents for this reason (& also because she was a precious only child). Maybe she resented that, & perhaps her mother or her parents had drummed it into her how difficult it was to conceive her & the problems with her birth. How she almost died & how lucky she was to be alive. That could have planted the seed of a very complex & deep rooted psychological disorder centered around birth, life & death. The killing of premature babies may have been symbolic to her in some twisted sort of way. Just my theory though. Who knows what the truth is.

    • @grumpygramps1451
      @grumpygramps1451 Год назад +3

@@leen1q84. If your theory is correct “if”, this would mean that she must have planned her evil deeds many years before she actually committed them. So, put this theory into context, from at least leaving school if not earlier, she went to college or university to study being a nurse with the ultimate intention of murder in mind, she graduates from college/university and lands herself a position at a teaching hospital with the ultimate intention of murder in mind, completing & qualifying as a nurse she aims at & lands a job on the baby ward at Chester now in her ultimate prime position to carry out her evil deeds she planned for years earlier.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a possible theory but I just think if someone was so determined to commit murder they wouldn’t go to such great lengths of years of medical studies to do so. I think the inexplicable urge came upon her after she became a nurse not years before.
