I have a newer SA425 and my mounting plate has 4 bolts above the piston compared to the 2 bolts I see on yours. Als my hood does not touch the dash when opened, so they must have shortened the piston to slightly limit how far it opens.
Mine just seperated, top from the bottom. at 2 years old, I dont expect much, I slathered some liquid nails on it, now I have to get it back in place, ugh
The chain idea is good. I've only got 40hrs on mine. I'll check the hood today. Idea: I wonder if you took some fender liner plastic from a wrecked car (for instance) and made thickening plates and bonded them with 3m bumper repair epoxy? E.g. thicken the part behind the gas cap area and down the curves to the front?
The 3m epoxy might be something I try in the future. I’ve seen online where a lot of people are getting their hoods replaced under warranty. Their new hoods start cracking also. I don’t know how many replacement hoods they will give me. I’d rather make a repair or modification underneath the hood rather than to the outside.
We had a broken tab on our SA424 at 70 hours or so . Our Yanmar dealer had the new part in just a few days no charge to us .

Mine did same thing so I repired by epoxying both pieces together sofar so good
Never seen that issue. I have a 4 year old sa424 and I've had a tree fall on the hood taking down trees. And never cracked or broke the hood.

Do you still have the old hood ?? I need a used one ??
Known issue, your dealer will get you a new upgraded hood.
Was thinking of buying an SA325 but want to know how they treat your problem before I do...
Did they fix it? I have the same issue?
The dealer is going to replace it under warranty. I’m waiting for the parts to come in.
I had a friend who had a sailboat with a Yanmar...wanted to see the motor..."DO NOT SLAM THE HOOD!!!" I screamed at him.
Excited to see how this goes.
