I did see them in summer 1972, but Frampton had left by then. I was amazed at Marriot's voice, it was stunning to hear live. The band was great, but I wish that Frampton would have been there, as his vocal harmonies were so good. This is a video to watch again and again.
I played this song so many times after it came out. Played it at one of my house parties, things got pretty wild, landlord kicked us out the next day. A few months later I went to see them live at Winterland in San Francisco. What a show.

I remember seeing the original band in Toronto in the very early 70's. It was before the days of Frampton's Camel band. :-)) It was a great decade for live music and reasonable ticket prices.
I saw Humble Pie in April of '71, in Virginia, just before they recorded PERFORMANCE/Rockin' the Fillmore. I caught Frampton's Camel, with Barnstorm, in about '73. I also saw HP with Clem about '73 or '74.
I keep coming back to this video, what an incredible reunion for one of the greatest rock bands ever! Steve would be honored, Frampton and all the guys really put everything into this performance! I saw Humble Pie twice during the early 1970s, and this is as terrific as anything they played back then. Really a phenomenal reunion, even if just for one unforgettable performance.
First time I ever saw this, it's strange that I never saw it before after all the times I have searched for Humble Pie and Steve Marriot live performances. If you love Humble Pie check out Jerry Shirley's book "Best Seat In The House", he of course knows the real deal because he was there from the beginning. I love this band. These guys sounded fantastic. Steve Marriot was truly a rare person and the group was absolutely the shit! Every member of Humble Pie was an integral part of the band and as far as I am concerned they were the best of the best.

Incredible. Only saw Marriott with the Small Faces (in '68 and '76) and he/they were awesome. Shame I missed HP live, but this is a tremendous reunion with everyone giving a joyful 100 %.
True. When I first started the video, my eyes franticly searched for Marriott. Inside I knew it was after, when he didn't sing the second verse. But. Someone has to keep the songs alive. I try in my cak handed & mediocre voiced way....
It was Peter Frampton who created I Don't Need No Doctor's iconic riff. They were rehearsing at Madison Square Garden when Steve Marriott heard Peter developing this riff. Steve got excited and ran from the sound board to the stage so they could make it the song's refrain. Source book: Happy Boys Happy! Same here. Being from Chicago, I am Sean's mm. I saw them all in Chicago in the 70's
Even after all these years, Peter never plays the same solo twice.I swear, his notes are being channeled from somewhere else.
And he knows where all those "other" notes are. Long before I heard Al DiMeola or Robben Ford, Peter open my ears to life beyond the minor pentatonic.
Fantástico!!!!!Que reuniao maravilhosa!!!e uma homenagem aogrande Steve Marriot......
What an awesome jam!! 👍💖
Great musicians, great tribute to steve, great band, great song. Peace, love, and Rock N Roll!
Clem is underated, on live album In concert He played so loud with Steve, a perfect remplacement of Frampton. Check out those moments..
They should have played together in Humble Pie. They sound great.
Some critic in some rock mag stated that if Humble Pie were still together they would be as big as the Stones. AGREED!
Great musicians........missing one
Hey, Greg my dear friend !
Peter Frampton rock's ....a truely gifted musician!
...it's only rock 'n' roll and I like it..!!...every time I watch and listen to it, makes me shiver..fantastic musicians..
I thought Peter did some damn good mimicry of Steve Marriott's voice. Both Clem & Peter formed one of the best uses of dueling guitar lines I've ever heard; right up there w/ The Allman Brothers!
This is one bad ass jam😎 I can see Steve up there jamming right along with them, boy could he wail👏
One of the all-time great live music performances.
Don't forget Jerry Shirley on drums!
He got almost no camera time. What a sin.
He never said "don't call me Shirley".
sadly missed
I SEEN HUMBLE PIE AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN WHEN THEY CAME OUT WITH THE EAT IT ALBUM. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT, BEST CONCERT I EVER WENT TO. R.I.P. STEVE ! LOVE YOU & MISS YOU ❤❤❤❤❤
Fucking awesome! what other band has a lead guitar player that can fill-in for one of the greatest lead singers in history and sound this good?
Wish vid featured close-ups of Greg's great bass ! The Cure that Doc cannot provide IS that young lady ; riding a Solid Bassline ...,.....
Fantastic version!
god bless them for giving me muisc good 69 rock -n- roll no hold back! just good rock -n-roll .. =) thanks
Clemson getting the attention he well deserves-here he stays with Peter, smok'in incindiares. "Alfred Gregory Ridley (23 October 1941 - 19 November 2003)"RIP. Jerry Shirley (born 4 February 1952) is an English rock drummer, best known as a member of the band Humble Pie, appearing on all their albums. He is also known for his work with Fastway, Joey Molland from Badfinger, Alexis Korner, Billy Nicholls, Syd Barrett, John Entwistle, Sammy Hagar and ..." Talented bunch I'd say.
Great words..... But Jerry is really humble, I think.🥁💜💛💚
Saw humble pie in 1970 in wichita with grand funl railroad frampton was 17 seventeen first gig in usa my first concert. Pretty cool
Clem Clempson (Colloseum) what a guitar man!
I saw Humble Pie at the Fillmore East when I was about 17 . That and the smoke will tune you up ! The New Year's Eve Show with Jimi Hendrix wasn't bad either !
Saw them in Hyde Park in 71 aged 12. Truth be told, the music was so good then, I'd happily swap the last 50-years on this planet to go back to the early 70's for a few years watching Pie and all the other great bands I saw back then and then check out. Nice to come on pages like these and meet people from the same time zone
Me too hyde park 71 great live gig they pissed all over gfr who were shite
This was great! Brought back so many memories, I seen them at Milwaukee summerfeast in the early 70ds, there were so many people showed up that it was like a mini Woodstock, what a great time it was, Humble Pie is always my favorite on stage rock and roll great band, I love you guys, God bless steve. 😮
Incredible. Only saw Marriott with the Small Faces (in '68 and '76) and he/they were awesome. Shame I missed HP live, but this is a tremendous reunion with everyone giving a joyful 100 %.
true, Marriott was one of a kind. But the man is gone now, and if we want to hear the songs he did so well, someone else will have to sing them now.
well said! a lot of negativity on you tube comments and this ain't half bad.in fact, i really like it. only came because of marriott but ... hey ...
True. When I first started the video, my eyes franticly searched for Marriott. Inside I knew it was after, when he didn't sing the second verse. But. Someone has to keep the songs alive. I try in my cak handed & mediocre voiced way....
You can't have a Humble Pie reunion without Steve, but I guess they did.
I lost my copy of _Rockin' the Fillmore_ some time ago. I'd forgotten how good this song is.
A Rock History of the Small Faces & Humble Pie : Featuring Steve Marriot, Ronnie Lane, Peter Frampton & Rod Stewart.
I miss Steve Marriott so much!!!!!
