I purged the collection last year and will continue to this year. Its all about gaming now. I'm actually on my way to hopefully getting a series X soon because of all the filler crap I sold! I really want to play Starfield so this is awesome! I played the new versions of God of War a few years ago now when I finally got a PS4. I had only been an Xbox gamer for years then and it really brought me back to Sony. God of War, Last of Us, etc. Now my PS5 is my favorite console! lol
I agree I think it's a good time to purge, sell and trade unwanted games. You know what's funny...We would sometimes buy a game and it would be an "investment piece"...what a load of shit..lol. You are supposed to sell into a market when it's high, so really everyone should be selling games right now.

I don't understand why people with massive collections would care that much about a lot of retro games becoming unaffordable, because if they're mainly collectors, then they could just collect the cheap games, there's so many out there for pocket change. If they're mainly about actually playing the games (that's me, I don't really buy them to collect I just buy them to play), well, there are still cheap good games out there. Even if there wasn't, you've got a massive collection of games to play that may last you for the rest of your life (depending on how big the collection is).
Filling up the shelves with games you never play from the previous generation's childhood is basically almost the entire retrogames scene isn't it? Seems like we are at least 15 years older than most retro-game youtubers.
yeah I think they are looking for praise or a shout out from a bigger youtuber. Never the less it's all for show and it's sad that these people never actually play their games it's all for status.
what about the pseudo-collections they do for youtube then sell off once the series is over for content?@@CMRetroGaming

I have been playing some old games lately. working too too much. were witnessing the end of this stuff. a new frontier. our collections will one day museum pieces or private collections. and we will ahem turned to dust. enjoy your life before you don't exist. thanks Chris

God of War 2018 is incredible. A little puzzle heavy in places, but very story rich. And moments that will give you chills. It's a triumph.

People trying to buy in a sellers market. It's crazy. And so many people buying just to buy and be seen buying. The whole YT thing. It becomes so disingenuous in many cases. I'm obviously still buying but Im grabbing stuff that's cheap that I still want to play. The markets and life cycles of the gens largely dictate what we find on average in the wild. Not telling you anything you don't already know, just throwing in my two cents lol.
You have to pay up a little for games now, that's just the way "game chasing go." But notice how when they can't get their fix they act like junkies. All they want to do is get cheap games so they can make videos. They don't really care about the games or the gaming community as a whole.
I'm at the point where I don't watch that many retro game collectors anymore. Yeah, there are ds and gba games that I would love to have, but charging over 100 bucks for a loose cart is way too much for me. I feel like if I don't need it, I don't have to buy it.
I do have quite a few games in my backlog I want to finish and focus on. I also need to focus on the dlc for a game that I love and see what they did to it. I'm at the point where I try to get xbox one games, ps4, and switch games that I want to play.
Agree, I think most people are starting to get priced out of retro games. It is a good year to tackle the back log and beat those games on the backlog.
I complain but not like that…I do play but with kids it’s hard to…I am and I’m being honest here. I now collect for value purposes and also getting the stuff I want to have…but ya it’s turned into that. And I only aim for current gen. I have no attachment and see no point having old machines. But anyway good vid again man!
I think we all complain, but the difference is that I'm not going to make a 20-30 min video crying about game prices..lol

I didn’t get to be one of those government employed game collectors. Or even state, municipal employees getting paid more than someone who works hospice care. The problem is hoarding, and I could name off 90% of those channels. It’s one thing to run a brick and mortar shop. This channel is not innocent either!
I would agree the accumulation phase is one of the most destructive. The "getting" of games takes priority over playing, collecting or even enjoying the games. I think after trades and the side hustle I spent $225-ish on games last year.
I'm also not innocent. As someone that makes pick up videos on YT I felt the pressure to "keep up with the Jones'" for sure. I bought things that I didn't really want, but felt "I needed them" for the video.
Awesome stuff Chris! Those people are dumb, there are soo many cheaper alternatives to enjoy retro games on actual hardware, whether it be a repro game or a flash cart or a burned cd.

emulation is always a choice, but I think these people want to have a pretty collection behind them to show off. I would laugh if someone had a ton of empty shelves and 1 retoPi on it...that would be brilliant lol.
with some of the sweet emulation devices out there you could do a shelf with them
im not impressed with alot of these shelves, still in 2024 theres some real awesome stuff that slid between the cracks and still is a fair price so seeing that stuff is more impressive then a $1500 single game@@CMRetroGaming
