      Yor mx bike fork is made to a certain precision so it can use oil seals and this suspension is nothing like that. I have just installed the monorim v2 with dual chamber air shock absorber and it is night and day compared to this piece of.... Video will follow soon.

    @adammorris3082 2 года назад +1

    I wonder if you could fit the coil over shock absorber with oil damping from something like a 7th or 5th scale RC car in the centre of each fork spring - they have at least 25 -35mm or more suspension travel- If you're lucky the extra spring and tension adjustment might stop it from bottoming out when you step onboard too, and you can get some pretty stiff replacement springs for the RC car shocks also. All the best.

      That's what I thought, Then I thought that you might just be able to just put the oil damped coil over suspension from the back of a biggish 5th scale RC car in each spring on the scooter forks, you'd have to somehow be able to bolt it to the top and bottom fork parts Through the rubber parts which would be a bit of a pain but it's do-able, You'd end up with a bit of adjustment for the spring rate and they still have about the same 30-35ish mm of suspension travel and the parts would probably still work out to be a lot cheaper than the Monorim or Konyk parts... I'm thinking if trying it myself now.. lol - All the best.

  • @barenekid9695
    @barenekid9695 4 года назад +2

    Common practice is to "cut' coils off of Fork springs to increase their Spring Rate (stiffen them) Try it ??
    Then one needs to add in a bit of PVC pipe to both compensate for the shortened spring and even to add a bit of uncompressed height (sag height) to accomodate heavier riders ..
    Adding in a bit of Fork oil wouldn't hurt either (even tho there is NO hydraulic damping) it will lube up their reaction time.. some.

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  4 года назад

      I am not sure if I will spend any more of my time on this fork. But thanks for advice, I was not aware of this practice.
      One surprize - everything was greased inside at least :)

    • @lucideuphoria7092
      @lucideuphoria7092 4 года назад +1

      Yep. It's amazing what you can do with a little effort. I have some fox 34 forks here worth around 1100, a rockshox sector 120mm worth $450 and some suntour xcr forks worth $120 from cycling deal. With a set of foam rings from a raidon and some 15wt oil in place of the grease, these XCR forks perform FAR better than the factory spec and not far off the sector when it comes to general xc riding. Amazingly these have rebound adjust, a sealed damper and a lockout. They happily fit a plastic spacer under the preload knob without binding, so they now accomadate a 95kg rider.
      Another useful trick for forks that have bad or no damping is to find an elastomer that fits inside the spring. The problem with undamped forks is the rebound. If the spring is too strong it doesn't sag and rebounds too quick, and if the spring is to soft it runs to much sag and bottoms out/packs down. Most manufacturers default undamped forks to a stiffer spring as they'd rather topout and slightly rougher ride than mechanical damage and packing down under repeated bumps. Elastomers are a great way of running a softer spring in an undamped fork without jacking up the rebound to intolerable levels, while also preventing harsh bottoming out.
      Definately try it.

    These are just my thoughts on the subject, being only front suspension it’s very similar to a hard tail mountain bike. With those you have to be more towards the front of the bike to make it work more efficiently. The next thing to consider is suspension forks take a few weeks to bed in and become more supple. It would be nice if they are user serviceable.
    Edit I’ve just seen the strip down and they are shite! Coil springs alone doesn’t make a good suspension system. Maybe stuffing mountain bike elastomers in between the coils might help

    A shock absorber consists of a spring and a dampener. It is meant to turn the kinetic energy of a bump into heat. Having just springs is like having leaked shocks in your car. It just bounces around with negative effect on ride quality. I wonder if there actually are shocks of this size so you could fix it.

I also have the front trolley wheels that can make my m365 stand vertical that's why I want the fork instead of monorim (and because Monorim is pricy too). That said, I have the ff. concerns same to what you've mentioned as well. 1. Will I still be able to fold and lock my scooter , and 2. Will the deck stand (included with the fork suspension) work or is it long enough if I'll have 10 inch rear tire.

    Question, did you install this 10 "tire. On a 8.5" frame.
    I still don't understand your opinion that this shock absorber sucks.
    The video clearly shows that he is doing that and that he has a suspension.
    Simply compared to the factory rigid connection in the front wheel, this is like a pillow.
    Bearing in mind that this scooter is not intended for extreme rides, jumping, this shock absorber certainly does its job.
    After all, try to make these jumps as at the end of the shot, but without this shock absorber (with the factory setting), then you will surely know what the difference is.

      I am riding many different scooters daily (I do not commute in a car, i ride bikes/scooters to work) and in different conditions and I have done all sorts of jumps in all sorts of conditions.
      This suspension adds unnecessary weight and for me it does not add any benefit. Just more noise, more risk of failure (look at those welding seams! 😳) for more money. It bottoms out at 0.5cm bump and there is no dampening, just a bit of uncontrolled bouncing.
      It is ok to disagree with me, I am just sharing my opinion and thoughts, at the end it is your money and your choice if you get one or not :)

    Do you think is better yours or this one? The most famous monorim:
    ruclips.net/video/7duO-D_vrsE/видео.html
    My only doubt in yours is the contact point between wheel hub and fork. I mean, the welding is strong enough?

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  4 года назад

      I have the Monorim V2 at home already, just need to install, test and film the vid. I expect I will be able to reply in about 2 weeks, mate :)
      The benefit of the Monorim is that you can install the dual chamber air shock and have something that works like real suspension and not only a metal spring. Another benefit of it is, I believe, longer travel range. And I hope also for better build quality.
      The welding should be strong enough.. But how can you tell? :)

    • @VRMinde
      @VRMinde  4 года назад

      Oh, if I am not mistaken - "M365 Custom Parts" are planning to release front disk brake option for the Monorim suspension. Now that would be a serious improvement!

  • @Bergwacht

    Caution: You have to be careful if the scooter is longer due to the suspensions(monorim) - the forces act differently on the frame.

      @@VRMinde how it happened? I jumped of 2 stairs.
      Joke.
      I don't know - I didn't jump with it or anything
      I saw it when I changed the broken controller at noon today. But it is actually clear that the long wheelbase means that the forces are concentrated at certain points. maybe it wont happend if they had used more material at welding, but that had cost 20 cent more per scooter and at the 20-25 kmh for which the scooter is designed, that would be enough but we changed the statics.
      Apart from the fact that it was designed for small, light Chinese poeple :D

      @@VRMinde I can describe it (the adjustable shock version with 8,5 inch tires):
      The good:
      -It works well, eats up biger bumps nicely, a lot less brutal
      -The travel is good, a lot more than on the susspension from this video
      -The swing arms are coupled with dual bearings, so 4 per arm, 16 in total
      -Its built really well with okay tolerances
      -The deck stays straight
      The bad:
      -Driving dinamics change a lot, the scooter turns a bit more lazy and is a bit more floaty (which is fine once you get used to it, its like driving a car with 250k km)
      -As good as this susspension is its still not as solid as the stock fork - it has a bit of play in the bearings-which makes the above changes.
      -Aligning the handle bars is a lot harder without the set screw - even with good alignment the scooter will pull a bit to one side or another. This is partly due to the alignment and partly due to the first point.
      -Shock absorbtion is average at best because of the cheap spring shock included. I can see that its constructed great, and has the capability to iron out smaller bumps with a proper air shock. The construction helps with this since the wheel doesn't just move upwards when hitting a bump but also moves it backward a bit (because of the swing arm), distributing forces over a longer period of time.
      hope this helps.
      PS saw the picture of the cracked frame and i dont think this is because of the wheelbase, but it might be becuse the force of the front is placed ABOVE the bearings, and so the "lever" beeing longer so with the same force, higher torque is distributed throughout the frame. Properly adjusted bearings however should make this less of a problem. The scooter frame also doesn't seem genuine. Havent seen a number engraved there on any of the scooters i've owned, fixed.

      And there is a lot more space for the feet where you would normally stand on the mudguard. you can feel that the steering mechanism gets less force when braking because you can stand further back.
      But now I wish I would have bought the more expensive, more stable version like yours ^^
