@Mr Flashjet - The Heathrow Airport Archive. Thank you!!! We both baked in the sun a week or so back waiting for her didn’t we! She has been very elusive!!
Worked for VS for 12 years. Whenever I or my extended family flew on a leisure 747, for some reason they were mostly on VROM Barbarella. To the extent I would get a text from my sister at the airport saying “we are on the old favourite Barbarella”. Thanks for the memories
Thank you for another GREAT and BEAUTIFUL video....everytime i say....there will not be another airplane like this.....ONLY ONE.... ONLY BOEING 747......ALL HAIL THE QUEEN!!
@chez84 It is very sad isn’t it. I filmed a lot of the final departures for the BA 747s too - so much has changed hasn’t it in the last 15 or so months.....
@@HeathrowAircraft it sure has. My favourite aircraft is the 757-200 and I'll probably feel the same watching them being retired too. The 747 is so iconic and is definitely sad to see them go.
@@HeathrowAircraft awesome! I think it was around 1998 when I first flew on a 757-200 and just loved it. My sister, who once was cabin crew for Thomas Cook Airlines, absolutely loved the 757 too.
@Grant Ryder. Thank you very much. It is quite nerve wracking and there are many things that can go wrong! Case in point. The short gap in the climb out was because the ladder I was standing on, began to sink into the soft ground and tipped me off!!! I had to get it back up and climb back on it again without losing the final few seconds. Nightmare!!
Great video , missing these jumbos a lot . We would see at least 2 a day over our house coming in to Manchester from the US as well as TC planes as well . It’s very quiet over our house lately .so glad to see at least one of the virgin jumbos getting another chance. I feel privileged to have flown on some of these beautiful planes . 🧱👍🏼
@Bricklaying With Steve and Alex. Thanks v much - glad you enjoyed the video. Sad old times aren’t they? The last 2 Heathrow based BA 747s are due to leave this week - that will truly be the end of an era. PS I’ve subscribed to your channel- great content which has helped me a lot! 👍
Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. We just have Ruby Tuesday left up here at Manchester, shame they can’t park her up next to Concord and do tours . Thanks for the subscription by the way , ive subbed back 🧱👍🏼
She passed over my house when I was doing errands and I completely missed her🤦♂️. Gutted that I missed out, however glad that you keep producing killer content ✅
@@stevedowdeswell139 I don't live in Heathrow however I do live under the flight path when planes depart from 27L and 27R and turn right after take off. I usually see a lot of planes at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 ft.
Sorry that you missed her. That must have been so upsetting. It happens to me all the time. That's why I try my best to always look out on Flightradar24.
Certainly seems to be in better external condition to some of the BA 747s I believe the last 2 BA 747s have a simultaneous departure on the 5th October (using each runway)
Well while shes not based in the uk anymore . At least shes not heading to the land of broken up aircraft . And we can hopefully see her in and around the uk in her new livery .
@SouthLondonBuses. It will be 27 R and 27 L but not sure which of the 2 aircraft will take which runway ... or even if it will happen tomorrow or be postponed to Friday because weather is not Thursday morning ...frustrating!!
Happy new year Steve! Great video, this metallic paint looked fantastic on these 747's but I also liked it equally as much on the A340's. Did you ever catch G-VFAB 'Lady Penelope'?
@Ian S. Thanks a lot Ian. She has been quite elusive over these last couple of weeks with several unsuccessful trips hoping to see her go. Let’s hope we see the BA departures on Thursday!
Barbarella was the first VS 747 refurbish in 2012. Flew back on her from Barbados a couple of weeks after the refurbish. We screamed with delight when she landed at Grantley Adams Airport to bring us home.
Piscean Dee Amazing. There is a lot of affection for her. It is great that she will go on to a new life with Atlas Air; rather than the breakers yard like the fate of so many if not all of BAs 747s.....
VROM at Marana AZ Ascent Aviation as of saturday Oct10 :) Engines open and other checks underway as transition to cargo will commence as Atlas gets things rolling.
15000 Hours on Virgin 747s and I last flew ROM in Jan 17 back from Vegas. What an absolutely brilliant aircraft the Jumbo is, it's so sad to see them go. I hope my ex colleagues who got the "heave- ho" are suitably employed elsewhere.
Farewell Barbarella enjoy your new life with Atlas Air
Thanks for shooting this. Barbarella was my last flight home before COVID shut everything down. Fond memories.
@Andrew Hurst. Thank you - glad you had the chance to fly on her - especially being your last flight.
Farewell old girl and thanks for many safe trips.
Thx for the great memories “Barbarella”, we enjoyed being aboard 😀👍🏼
I will miss seeing 5 sometimes 6 Virgin 747's all at the same time here at the gates in Orlando. It was a staple for many many years..
@Russell. That must have been quite a sight! 👍
So sad, but I’m glad that she is going for a new life and not for the scrap
Where is she going to?
Shes going to atlas air
@@Sam_Beck Thanks!
@@Alex-xe4uc Shes currently flying to Las Vegas and then of to Marana for storage and then getting picked up by Atlas Air
Just saw her at LAX last week, we just sent her to taipei for freighter conversion
Amazing capture, love the Virgin Atlantic 747's, very sad they have been retired!
@Aviation UK thanks a lot- yes it was sad seeing the last one leave. I caught 3 in total. And I think around 10 for BA from memory!
Fabulous 👍👍 I admire your dedication in finally getting her!

That sound is so loud and that whistle is the best.

It sounds so different from BA's 747 with RB211s that produce that amazing buzzsaw. The 747s with Cf6s are still flying today with Lufthansa.
