  • In today's video we take a first look at the ‪@sigsauerinc‬ Custom Works P320MAX. Designed for Carry Optics division, it is the high-end competition version of the XFive Legion. I've been curious about this firearm but locally we don't see them very often. It is roughly $550 more expensive than the XFive Legion. Do you think it's worth it? What do you think of the ‪@sigsauerinc‬ P320MAX? I look forward to your comments.
    Thank you for stopping by and God Bless.

    I have been shooting a modified P320X5 Legion in the CO Division. My modifications include Grayguns trigger springs, Armorycraft adjustable flat trigger, tungsten guide rod, Springer stainless extended mag release. My optic is a Leupold Deltapoint pro 2.5moa which is a direct bolt on without adapter plates. Having checked out the P320MAX, my opinion is that you are paying a lot of money for the MAX branding. My built up Legion has a smoother, lighter and fully adjustable trigger pull, take up and reset. My trigger is sub 2#. It feels as good as a 1911 trigger without being a 1911. With regard to the optics, I have Sig optics on some of my guns. They are nice and come with a great warranty and customer service. I just prefer the DPP because of the ease of use and ergonomics. The DPP is robust, easy to adjust, turn on and off and change batteries, has great glass and a crisp red dot. I have 2 identical P320’s that only differ in moa. I have both 6 & 2.5moa dots. Personally, I prefer the 2.5moa dot over the 6. It is more accurate and in the bright Arizona sun the dot is quite visible when turned up to bright settings. The 2.5 is so good I just bought a second one and replaced the 6moa on my other 320 so the guns are now identical. I was favoring the 2.5 and now will be alternating the 2 guns. I have less than what a 320MAX costs in my CO competition gun. If someone buys the MAX and is a serious competitor they are going to have to upgrade the trigger and springs, guide rod and mag release at a cost of about $400 even if they keep the 6moa Sig red dot this making the P320MAX way overpriced for what it is.
    Note that this is just my opinion, so take it for what it’s worth.

    Just did my first range test/training session with my new P320 Max that I’ll be using in IPSC competition. The added value of the Max is in the slide and included direct cut Romeo3Max optic . I shot a range of ammo with the 12 lb spring - no issues from 115 to 150 gr . I was able to place a 1” group in the X Ring from the bench @ 25 yards so accuracy was as expected . High speed controlled pairs were tight . The optic is great for competition , very big, clear and bright. Had a bit of trigger freeze a few times as I have another X series pistol but just came of month with my Shadow 2 and the DA pull off the first shot is obviously very different. The magwell must be removed for both USPA and IPSC CO/PO divisions but you can use it in 3-gun Open or IDPA CO ( I think it just makes the 45oz weight ) This is definitely a pistol for the dedicated competition shooter but with the optic installed and added mags , it’s a better value OotB than it’s main CO rival , the OR CZ S2 . Note on P320’s , like all pistols , things break and I’d replace the OEM take down lever with an Armory Craft Extended billet steel version . I also use a Springer Extended paddle mag release. I bit tricky to install but performs much better than the OEM. I love my excellent CZ S2 but I also appreciate the simplicity and modularity of the Sig FCU and the over all egos of the Legion/Max pistols.

      I'm considering this gun vs. a CZ Shadow 2 OR. Seems like a better value. Have you shot the p320 Max in IPSC yet? How did it compare to your Shadow2? I'm looking for a gun that's ready to go out of the box that's fast, accurate and reliable.

    • @stovepipe8966
      @stovepipe8966 2 года назад

      @@johnfrizzell Obviously the Shadow 2 is a great gun. I’m lucky that I have experience with both the S2 and P320 platforms. It's an ongoing debate with my IPSC buddies as a lot have gone back and forth. A stock S2 should get a spring and reduced rigger spring job done by a gunsmith to optimize it’s abilities IMO. The S2 OR can be possibly harder on optics tho I’ve had no issues. . It is really very personal and sometimes just superstitious lol ! I just shot my best IPSC match with the Max but it could be I’m just getting better every month . If you just want to run right out of the box AND the Legion Grip module fits your hand well , the Max is ready to go. I run Talon tape on the Max - adding texture is advised . The S2 needs some stuff like an optic , plate , spring work ideally , possibly grip panels - I ran Lok Brass but switched back to Lok G10 Bogies as the gun seemed too heavy. But lots of top guys just run the stock alu panels. Both pistols have never malfunctioned apart from an ammo related problem. I’d get both and sell one once you have spent enough time with both lol !

    It does look like a good out-of-the-box competition gun and I've read good things about the Romeo3 optic. No back-up iron sights is okay for competition as long as the shooter remembers that there are two kinds of red dot sights: those that have failed, and those that will fail. And it's still less than the Staccato P. Waiting for your range review.

    The Max comes with a $600 red dot, 4 21rd mags, and a unique slide cut, VS with the X5 Legion, you just get iron sights, and 3 17rd short mags. I think it's worth the price. I prefer extended mags for an easier load, and a better grip if there's any malfunction. Good luck picking the 17rd mag out of that magwell with a double feed.

    I just picked up one of these today. The major difference for me is that the Legion also has iron sights, while the MAX does not. Adding an optic to the Legion puts them roughly at the same price. I was going to add an optic anyway and the Romeo 3 seems as bright and viewable as Trijicon's SRO. I'll find out tomorrow at the range.

      @@MDpolo First trip to a range went well. Recoil is very low and no failures of any kind after 210 rounds of 115gr FMJ. The magazines are easy to load up to 20 and the 21st just requires a bit extra thumb pressure. It's interesting to me that the most noticeable noise is the recoil spring. It's like the buffer on an AR. I only shot offhand and it's very easy to control, even in rapid fire. At some point, I may try from a benchrest, but accuracy and consistency seem fine. I wouldn't want to use it for EDC, but that's a weight issue and expected. The Romeo3 is nice and clear. I have a RMR on another pistol and the Romeo3's larger glass makes it quite a bit easier to acquire the dot. The trigger feels a bit mushy like every other striker fired pistol I've handled, but release & reset are good. Press checks are easy. Overall, I'm pleased. Having 4 magazines included in the purchase is great.

    Thank you for the close up look. I’m a Sig fan (I have lots of Legions and a P365xl, trigger jobs done by Sig Armorer, 1.5 lb triggers), but that Max trigger looks awful. After the trigger job on my 226 legion, the reset isn’t even measurable. I just picked up a CZ orange with a reset that’s not measurable it’s so small. $1700? You have an extraordinary collection of guns, great 1911s, I just don’t see what the hype is about. It’s just another striker fired gun.
