Uau! Esse vídeo eu vi há quase 30 anos atrás! Talvez, nessa época a Cynthia Harvey (linda!) nem fosse primeira bailarina ainda. Leslie Browne, graciosíssima, depois estrelou um filme com o Baryshnikov. Todas as bailarinas eram magníficas e não precisavam ser tão "atléticas" qto hoje (algumas até parecem mais ginastas do que bailarinas...).
Eu assisti o filme Momento de decisão na Globo. Alessandra Ferri também trabalhou nele.

this show should be offered more regularly ,abt has wonderful dancers and this paquita could be a great opportunity for them next season 😉👍 the variations and music is unsurpassed

production back. It's very lively, with wonderful solos too !

I only saw Bujones once at ABT (in Giselle) but he had great style and precision.

My favorite dancer; I saw her Odette/Odile at the Kennedy Center twice and she brought tears to my eyes. Not even Makarove did that. Such a beautiful dancer.

I’m not too sure what is but I love the “American” feel of this ballet. It has a different style and feel that’s refreshing as opposed to the Russian style.

Wow, to think this was done back in ‘84! They did an amazing job. I danced ballet professionally, never made it to the ABT but no regrets.

Amo essa versão do ABT, mas acho o corpo de baile sem sincronia e algumas bailarinas tem uns erros bem visíveis.
I'm glad I came across this video - what a jewel. Gregory's variation starting at 14:55 (diagonal of grand jetés) has rarely been bettered. Edit: oops, that is not Gregory. Is it Harvey? Could someone please give me time codes for Cynthia Harvey; I'm having trouble figuring out which variation she performs. Thank you for sharing this magnificent performance.
Yes, that is Harvey. Gregory's variation doesn't begin until 19:14
Harvey is really spectacular ,I've seen this variation many times and no one ever is better than Harvey ,she is sensational
That variation is unreal. Harvey eats it for breakfast!

I generally like ATB but there’s always something off with their orchestra. It sounds like they distribute the score with big fat coffee stains on it, two or three instruments are broken, and 1/3 of their staff fell sick and failed to appear, and the conductor had a few beers right before the performance.
Wonderful dancing from Gregory and Bujones.
But the John Lanchbery orchestrations of Minkus' music are beyond vulgar.
I didn't dare say that, but I share your opinion. Why did Minkus' music have to be tampered with?
The orchestration of the music is absolutely terrible and unnecessary, particularly Gregory's variation, which is ruined by Mons. Lanchbery taking Drigo's beautiful harp solo with pizzicato and transforming it into this sugary garbage. Jaffe's variation is the best with regards to orchestration, since fortunately it is in its original arrangement.

C'est une représentation au Metropolitan Opera House de New York. Je pense que c'était en 1983. C'est une représentation mémorable, je dirais mythique. Vous pouvez voir rien de moins que Gregory, Bujones, Harvey et Jaffe. Tous sont simplement merveilleux, uniques. c'est pourquoi cette représentation de Paquita est simplement mémorable. :-)

@@karennoble1168 do not worry, I understand English. really, this performance of Paquita as I said, is insurmountable. Many representations have been made, all over the planet, I've seen almost all of them, and yes, a lot of them are of great quality, certainly, but the truth is that gathering Harvey, Gregory, Bujones, Jaffe and more magnificent stars in a single performance is something unique and sensational . the way they dance, with that musicality and energy and technique so unique and grand is just a joy to watch.Thank God that performance was recorded and we will always have this video to enjoy :-)

Yes, i watched it several times again AND it Is definitely the best. It Is very powerful, one of a kind. AND maybe just that one night was the Best Magic Night also collective energywise, performers AND audience.
Like a culmination of all the work, Love not only of these famous dancers but all known AND unknown dancers, they contributed. AND a masterpiece was born. Like little streams create a big River which ends in a mighty ocean.

@@karennoble1168 Yes I agree Karen . indeed, the night in general was really unique, since Paquita was the culmination of a truly memorable night, full of classical ballet of the first category and with unique, unrepeatable artists. the night was started by none other than Mikhail Baryshnikov and Les Sylphides, so the best way to start the night, the audience I imagine , it would be ecstatic and enchanted, and then, the truly insurmountable stars dancing the delicious Pas de Deux of Sylvia with the sublime music of Léo Delibes, Martine Van Hamel and Patrick Bissell, two mega stars¡¡¡ what more could you ask for, a dream couple, in view of the tremendous applause received, what a great success they got. and finally, Paquita with a wake of dream stars. I specially love the variation of Harvey , but Gregory as Paquita is simply phenomenal, what mastery and security ¡¡¡ it is a joy to see her dancing in particular her variation, so magnificently ,insurmountable, a joy to watch her sublime dancing, really a prima ballerina ¡¡ In short, one night, simply memorable, I believe that such a night, it has seldom been repeated, will always remain in the history of ballet, as one of the best nights of ballet in New York City , without a doubt. and I agree, the Minkus music is fabulous :-)
