  • Ludwig Minkus
    Choreography: Joseph Mazilier
    Pierre Lacote
    Marius Petipa
    Paquita
    Grand pas classique
    In 1847, Paquita was staged for the first time in Russia for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg by Marius Petipa and Pierre-Frédéric Malavergne, being the first work ever staged by Petipa in Russia. In 1881 Petipa produced a revival of the ballet for which he added new pieces specially composed by Ludwig Minkus. This included the Pas de trois (a.k.a. the Minkus Pas de trois or Paquita Pas de trois) for the first act, and the Paquita Grand pas classique and the Mazurka des enfants (Children's mazurka) for the last act. Petipa's version of Paquita was retained in the repertory of the Mariinsky Theatre until 1926.
    Marius Petipa's 1881 additions for Paquita survived long after the full-length ballet left the stage. Today these pieces, particularly the Grand pas classique, are major cornerstones of the traditional classical ballet repertory and have been staged by ballet companies throughout the world.
    In 2001, the choreographer Pierre Lacotte produced a revival of the full-length, two act Paquita for the Paris Opera Ballet. Although Lacotte re-choreographed all of the ballet himself, he restored Joseph Mazilier's original mime sequences and mise-en-scène, as well as Marius Petipa's 1881 additions.

    A most graceful and delicate creature with a neckline I have not seen before and her partner complements the picture. Thirza. South Africa.

    I completely adore this. Choreography, music, performers -- everything is wonderful. There's something about Letestu that I just love to watch. And she has great feet.

    A very Romantic interpretation - like a bouquet of roses. Comparing this to the Mariinsky Theatre performance with Alina Samova, the Russians are like a glittering diamond - the technique is perfect, but sometimes it's a bit icy in feeling though. Here the technique is "softer", the lines are more rounded. The ABT production with Gregory and Bujones is like Chop Suey eaten on a roller coaster.

    What a beautiful dancing, orchestra play and costumes! Agnes Letestu is a goddess! Jose Martinez is the epitomy of male elegance in ballet! And I quite liked some of the coryphees. I wonder if anyone of them has reached the status of soloist later in their careers.

    • @christinereynaud5572
      @christinereynaud5572 Год назад

      Which one ? 😁 So many jumps occur many times here : temps levé arabesque, balloné, temps de flèche, cabriole, assemblé, saut de basque, grand jeté, grand jeté en tournant, coupé-jeté... What is maybe very typical of Paquita Grand Pas is thé temps levé arabesque with "tuning in" arm and that nice épaulement forward.

    Французы очень техничны, но в русской хореографии их техничность куда-то пропадает, и они танцуют по-ученически..
