I think a lot of people didn’t try this game or take it seriously because of the cartoony characters. They all wanted another FF7 and FF8 with more realistic characters, but that shouldn’t stop someone from playing the game. Just shows some people’s ignorance.

@@kingdoge69 They said this and this is the game where all the big cities suffer destruction at some point in the history, this game and Wind Waker are the same, cartoonist games after 2 with a more realistic design that were hated for being childish when both have more destruction that the others 2, in wind waker Hyrule is destroyed and in FFIX a fucking planet and almost all existence.

Garnet's reaction at the end was beautifully done. She had spent the entire game trying to be strong and keep it together, and when she finally reaches Zidane, she lets it all go and falls to pieces in his arms, not literally of course. She's making a scene, but she doesn't care. Her loved one was back from the dead, and that is all that matters.

@@doctorpringles12 I know that he feels more like a prince, but those traits that you mentioned - they're the "stuff" that good kings are made of. So If he got a little more serious he could become a great king someday. But I'm not saying that he couldn't be a king the way he is. For example: Edgar from FFIII/VI
, he wasn't that serious, but also - It didn't make him a bad king. And as zidane, he cared deeply for his friends and other people. I'm sorry If I mashed/mixed everything together that It probably doesn't make any sense😸.

    • @Youtubeaccount-cd9lp
      @Youtubeaccount-cd9lp Месяц назад +1

Yes.. Guys , you know the last monologue saying farewell was from Vivi right.. He has stopped moving , Garnet’s hair is long again, and Alexandria has rebuilt. so Zidane probably missing for around 1 or 2 years.. Every character was shown in the ending , except Vivi.. the one shown was his “kids” and none of them remembers Puck.
In memoria was stated that things has made lot of stir ups since 10 years ago (the time when Kuja’s plot in Gaia was started). Mr 288 also said older type of black mage like Vivi last longer.. while newer types like Mr 288 last for 2 years. so in total Vivi probably has lived about 12 or 13 years. Vivi confirmed it in Bran Bal when he was saying that those teenage looking Genomes are about his age. If that so, Vivi probably has same expiration year with Mr 288.
Since the mist is back again during disc 4, and Mikoto lives in black mage village.. it is possible that she the smart one helps black mages to reproduce Vivi “kids” using mist.. Similar to what Garland did to Genomes , Mikoto also said eventhough Kuja was evil he still brings them hope.. by putting meaning for their existence even though it’s not what they were made for. Plus also, Kuja succeed on applying Terra’s producing system and set example on how to produce black mages in Gaia.
Note : Vivi is watching from above at 18:12 , exactly on the right side of the shining sword.
This game is so beautifully made and written.
Do not forget, no matter how heartbreaking it is, it’s still a fiction. Peace out ✌️

Some of the best visual storytelling in just a few seconds of the ending-
Garnet throws the crown down, almost with disgust before leaping carefree into Zidane's arms. Her single "I thought you were dead" tear. Zidane smirks and shrugs as an apology, a "well, I didn't", "no bug deal", and "I'm here now" all at once. Three progressively weaker punches where she's basically calling him an asshole and that she "hates" him but in that "I love you, don't ever do anything like that to me again!" way to a full emotional breakdown. The clutch while she cries that's basically him saying "I won't."
A lot to convey in voiceless animation on PS1 hardware in just a few seconds. The score helped punctuate it, of course.

My favorite ending for all the FF titles....and there’s been some great ones.
I feel Zidane and Dagger’s love story is more convincing than Squall and Rinoa’s, even if it wasn’t central to the plot like in FF8.
I like Steiner finally finding happiness with Beatrix.
It’s great to see Eiko have a family she never really got to have.
And though I was saddened when I realized the narration was Vivi and his no longer being with us, the words he’s saying are so true.

It might be minority thinking, but I actually like Steiner's story arc the most, and not just because of his romance with Beatrix. He's so black and white in his way of thinking from the games outset, so stubborn and stuck in his ways, but over the course of his journey with Zidane he not only gains great respect for the man, but begins to see the world in a different perspective and even ponders if living a life of military servitude, which is all that he has known until now, is really what he was meant for, or if there is perhaps something more for him to aspire to. He steadily begins to lower his blinders to the world as a whole, and though his loyalty to Garnet and his friends is never put into question, he eventually learns to stop being so formal and prudent and learns to be more relaxed, open, and easy going with the rest of his comrades, even making cracks about Zidane's choice in women towards the games end, something that Garnet herself calls Steiner out on but probably appreciates hearing coming from him, a strong indicator of his newfound independence and ability to think for himself.
In the end, he is still a servant of Alexandria, but it is no longer because it is all that he knows or because he feels obligated to do it, it's because he CHOOSES to do it, because he loves his country, his lady Beatrix, and his Queen...no, his FRIEND, Garnet.
Definitely one of the finest examples of character growth in a video game.

I only finished playing the game for the first time and I can say that, Steiner is one of the big characters from 9, he's got so much development throughout the story to make him as good an likeable a character as Master Vivi is.
I get why people hated Steiner, but that was kind of the point, the creator/s Wanted You to hate him, not to mention that all his dramatic posturing made all his scenes that much more funny.. ^^ That's what made him a fun and likeable character by the end of the story, Steiner is cool because he managed to find the strength to change for the better and because he has a good and kind heart behind that rusty armor.

Zidane and Dagger are what Squall and Rinoa should have been. This is so damn satisfying, 20 years after first finishing the game.
The direction of that final FMV is among the best things in the entire series. The camera following Dagger from behind as Steiner and Beatrix open the doors for her, then she has to fight her way through a crowd of people slowly, dropping her pendant along the way... The build of the music... Her determinedly removing and throwing her tiara to the ground, as if nothing else matters in the world right now... Then... Boom. That swell of music. That leap into his arms is everything. She beats him on the chest a couple times in beratement before resting her head on his shoulder...

Final Fantasy IX has always been my favorite game and this ending is still as moving as the first time 21 years after playing it. Never a game in this series has deserved the name "Final Fantasy" more than this one. The name becomes quite literal given how the story unfolds and given how it was developed and crafted.
There's something deeply moving and touching about this game, its world and its characters. I guess it comes out of the simplicity and subtlety of its direction. It allows more room for the player to bring a part of himself/herself into the game and it becomes a really personal, dare I say intimate experience.
The world itself is an invitation to carry on dreaming. If I could pick up a place, any place from any piece of fiction, I'd pick Alexandria in a heartbeat.
All in all, FFIX is a work of art which ends up being far more than the sum of its parts. This is the true sign of what a masterpiece is.

it really took me a while before I realised Vivi as the one who said those parting words. Initially I thought it might have been Garnet, but then it didnt make sense. It couldnt have been anyone else since we see them in the scenes. And then I realised Vivi was missing. And the story sank in with the black mages limited life span.
If anyone deserved to live a longer, fuller life, it was the most wholesome, kindest black mage of them all :(.

I finished this game for the first time the other day. I was born two months after this came out, and recently the rerelease was added to Xbox's gamepass service. I saw my dad play a little bit of it and hadn't really been into any games lately so I decided to give it a try. It started out a bit slow and seemed like it was going to be cheesy and generic but I stuck with it out of curiosity. I played for 50 hours and spent probably six of those grinding minigames and treasure hunts to get the best gear possible and teach everyone all the abilities they could learn. I didn't regret a single moment. This game did something I never expected and so rarely experience from media in general, it made me care. I gave a shit about the story of Zidane, Vivi, and dagger. I wanted to see where the plot went and what Kuja would do next. I genuinely was invested in the romance between Zidane and dagger. I can't remember a single time where either of them said "I love you" to the other but, you could tell because of how well they were written and the subtle cues in their animations when they talked to each other. I don't usually buy into love stories in most things, a lot of them feel forced like of course they fell in love, they're the main characters, but not here. Never did it feel like they were forcing the two of them to fall in love, it all felt natural and incredibly well done at that. Vivi's story is utterly heartbreaking and it's impossible not to think of him without getting upset because of how tragic his tale was. When I first beat the game, I was so tense trying to figure if Zidane died or not that I thought the text in between character scenes was dagger speaking about him, not Vivi's farewell to the group and realizing that he didn't live to find out Zidane was alive was absolutely crushing lol. This game is a masterpiece, it's not perfect, nothing is, but a few gameplay issues don't take away from the incredible story that this game tells and the phenomenal score that makes it most emotional moments that much more powerful. No wonder the people behind this consider it their best work, because as far as I can tell, it most certainly is.

She's basicley the princesscof linblum at this point.

I love how every FF game has that one character we root for. In FF9, I loved Vivi's journey. Reading his narration in the end tears me up because heinous the frailty of life and the journey you make of it - my memories will be part of the sky. The composition where Dagger is rushing to see Zidane's return and the crowd cheering on is one of my favorites overall in FF soundtrack. Theres something tear jerker and movie quality about its placement there. Great way to end a sweet journey and also the last of the PS1's run. Can you believe we all are that nostalgic for FF 7-9?!

Monchie Cosio If by “close to reality” you mean “teenagers acting like idiots and fucking up at every possible turn” then yes, FF8 characters were realistic. FF8 was supposed to be petty HS drama and I honestly don’t know what was realistic about that.
FF7 did environmentalism, cyberpunk, and dark storylines before any of it was cool. I think some of its plot twists were a bit convoluted. But there’s a reason 7 and 9 were still probably the two most beloved stories of the whole franchise this many decades later.

I'm super excited to beat this game, I have it on my switch, but I'm gonna have to leave that file behind because my brother bought a PS2 and ff9 and it will be arriving soon, so there isn't a real reason to keep my current file. Even so, the little bit I've played of this game has been one of the best experiences I have ever felt playing a game. No other game has made me tear up as much as this one, this is my favorite ff game and nothing will change that :)
Edit (7/15/22): I beat the game! It was genuinely one of the best games I have ever played, the ending cutscene made me sob hard. Especially when Quina showed up for some reason (me and my brother had a running joke going on between us throughout my playthrough, we basically expressed how much we loved Quina in a joking tone) and when I saw that he was doing all well and good being the castle's chef, I was so happy. The ending made me feel so happy, but also extremely sad knowing that Vivi was narrating the scene. I ended up not abandoning my switch file, I just didn't want to start over in the middle of the game for a 2nd time, and I regret nothing. This game was such an emotional masterpiece, and I wish that I could be able to experience playing this game for the first time again, but even so, it's a 10/10 game, and I will most likely start playing other Final Fantasy games (mainly 10) in the future :)
